FormDefUtil

While upgrading from planning application from system 9 to 11.1.2, I am trying to get the data forms with the use of FormDefUtil command. I first used the FormDefUtil export command to export from version 9 which created the .xml file. Then I used the FormdefUtil import command to import the forms to the target version. Everything seems right and there is no error message. However, I do not see any form in version 11 application which is my target. So, my question is: when we use the formdefutil command to export-import data forms, are there any other steps we need to take in order to have the data forms in the target application or it is automatically imported to the target application. Am i missing something here?

Hi,
Are you tring to export and import only webforms from 9 to 11.
If yes than i think John suggested to try to export the forms definition from target using LCM.to check if defintion exists in target or not.John please correct me if am moving in wrong direction.
And if you want to migrate total planning classic application than schema is best option. Than webform will migrate automatically from 9 to 11.We did that in our system and its working.

First of all those errors look more related to HBR, though if it worked before I would restart services then log into the planning app and then try again.
Have you tried a different form as well one without an ampersand &.

Migrate forms with folders with FormDefUtil

Hi,
I'm trying to migrate forms using FormDefUtil.cmd, to an empty directory tree under my Planning application (new created application in DEV environment).
When I import all forms using "FormDefUtil import -all localhost admin planning", it puts all, or most forms under the root directory, without creating the directory tree.
Is there a way for the utility, or LCM, to pre-create the directory tree? I'd like to use the utility, because we've had issues with using parentheses () in forms names, and they aren't coming over in LCM.

As Abhishek said, create your folder structure in the target environment and import.
Also if you have duplicate named folders look at where your forms import after the fact as they seem to go to one folder or the other not the folder they were in structurally; we logged the folder issue as an SR FYI.
Good to know about parenthesis and LCM -- it also doesn't like ampersands for certain items e.g. Essbase filter names.

Are you changing to the planning/bin directory before you run the utility, the issue seems to relate to not seeing some java files which are usually set when calling the utility from within the directory itself.

Unable to do data form export using FormDEfUtil.cmd

Hi all,
I'm not able to do the data form export using FormDEfUtil.cmd.
D:\hyperion\planning\bin\FormDEfUtil.cmd export <formname> localhost admin password <appname>
I get this below message when tried the above script in cmd prompt.
usage: HspFormDefUtil <import/export> <filename/formname/-all> <server> <username> <password> <application>.

It works..but still i dint get the .xml file..when checked the log,it is updated as below,

Error exporting webform thru formdefutil utilty

Hi,
I am getting the follwing error while exporting the webform from planning through the utility formdefutil
Errors occured during syncrhonization: [com.hyperion.planning.DuplicateUserException: Another user with the name admin already exist
s.]
The FormDefUtil.log fiel says : Failed to sync with user provisioning. Check Planning log for details
The user is an admin and can login to the application successfully.

The user provisioning is failing to sync. I cannot login to the planning server with these ids because it is not a MSAD id but native.
Shall i go for the externalization of all users from EAS-> security-> right click option? will it break anything that is already working?

Issue with data Validation while migrating from one application to another

Hi All,
I am having a strange issue Kindly please help me .
I have a data form which have data validation on each cell.The dataform is quite large and contain data for 4 accounts and year (Jan to Dec) combination .The issue is that I when I migrate this data form to other application which is just the replica of the main application. The validation on each cells changes its reference points.
I have 5 more similar data form and I need to migrate then to other application and also on production sever. Is there any way that while exporting and importing them using formutil.cmd or other way that the validation cells reference does not change its reference point.
For ex I have validation on Cell A5,A6..........AA6 after migrating it changes to A1,A1.........AA1.
I am using 11.1.2.1.0 version of Hyperion Planning

Forms Migration in Planning.

Hi Gurus,
In Hyperion (v 11.1.1.1) Planning application, is there any automated or simple process to move the forms from one environments to other. Our developers create the forms in development environment so we just need to move these new forms and dont want move the complete application.
Please let me know if I can use LCM for that.

WebForms, Security, Business Rules restore in Planning

Hello everybody,
I am working on Hyperion System 9 (shared services, essbase, BI+, planning etc) with Oracle 10g relational repositories.
I know Planning has 2 command line tools (FormDefUtil.cmd, ExportSecurity.cmd) that allow us to export Planning web data forms and security in txt file.
My question is: If I don't have the exported files for web forms and security (because my client didn't know about the existence of the 2 tools above and so there is no backup of web form and security) is there another way to restore them?
Could I use the database backups to restore web forms and security? We do make a backup every night of all Hyperion schemas .
Same question for Business Rules. My client never made a backup of them (never exported them as .xml), can they be restored from the database's backup?
If web forms, security, BR can be restored from database, what are the steps to be followed in order to perform such an operation?

Hi,
If there has been a backup of the relational database then you will be able to restore the database from a previous day over the current database.
You need to stop planning first, restore database, start planning, log in to make sure everything is alright.
That is the usual way to restore the planning elements.
The EAS database will follow the same sort of concept.

LCM reordering forms folders

Hi,
I'm migrating a Planning application between servers, and I know LCM has it's own will to change the forms folder option. What is the the recommended way to keep the order and migrate as fast as possible? Probably the best way is to create manually the folders before import right?

Import/Export Data Form

Hi,
i copy my production planning application (ver 9.3.1)to a new one for testing usage.
I use the FormDefUtil utility to manage the DataForm.
Can i recreate the folder structure that contains the data form automatically?
Infact i have a lot of folders and i don't want replicate it manually.

Yes, migrating the entire application will indeed bring the form folder structure across, along with the forms. It also brings the rest of the application.
I'm not sure the OP was after that (or maybe he was, but I didn't see that).
To echo my Scottish (I presume, but I've yet to meet anyone not from Scotland calling himself Jock) extremely distant cousin, the forms will come across but unfortunately the folders will not.

We need to recreate the total hierarchy of this dimension.If i try deleting the member manually , it throws an error that it is being used in webforms , hence cannot be deleted. Kindly suggest as to how to recreate the hierarchy without deleting the webforms.

Hi,
You can take the export of all the data forms using FormDefUtil.cmd, from which you will get .xml file for that data form.
Once you export all the data forms you can delete the data forms and delete the dimension members and load them accordingly.
Later you can import all your data forms using FormDefUtil.cmd utility in to the application.

Unable to export Webforms

Hi All,
I am trying to export Webforms from Planning App. Hyperion Planning is installed on Linux. The command that I am trying to execute is:
FormDefUtil export -all servername username password app_name
I am trying this from the same directory where the util is located: Middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/Planning/planning1
When I execute it I get this error: *"-bash: FormDefUtil: command not found"*
Please let me know, if I am doing something wrong.

Web form security

Hi All ,
I have migrated hyperion planning 9.3.1 to 11.1.2 , the database was restored and i am able to login into the Planning 11.1.2.
But I am not able to see the webforms , If i login with the admin i could able to see. If I login with any other having Planner as the role , i am not able to see any webform.
It seems the webforms previlages are lost during tghe migration ? how can i get them back.

First, you should be posting this in the Planning forum Planning and Budgeting
Since 11.1.2 is not officially supposed to be available for upgrate/migrate, there will always be issues. And security has been changed alot. If you compare the xml files of exported web forms, you will see that security values have changed. I would suggest you manually assign security again.
If the number of forms is large, you may want to export them using FormDefUtil and then modifying all the xml files to match 11.1.2 format.
