Forms 10G - Java applet and Client Certificate
Hello,
I recently developed a servlet to read a client certificate on the application server.
I set the apache server to request a client certificate on launching.
Everything works fine.
Now, my customer wants to stop the application when the client certificate is removed (The client certificate is stored on a USB key).
After some tests, I realized that the client certificate is stored inside the java Apllet cache;
In other words, the Certificate is removed from the browser store (as expected) but not from the Applet store.
So my question is, Is it possible to configure Java applet not to keep certificate in cache ?
Or is it a way to force Applet to synchronize with the certificate store of the browser ?

Thank you very much for your link...i saw there that you had the same problem. My question now is if Frank ( i know him from the Forms Forum :)) did tell you about working with the embedded server starting it as an external OC4J instance.
If he did please tell me also. i am interested in that because i havent heard of any patch on JDeveloper 10g on this matter.

Markus ReichertI could not reproduce the error after appending the SSL certificate to the certdb.txt file available under $Jinitiator_Home/lib/security folder.
Steps to add the SSL Certificate:
1. Run the form with the https mode in the IE Browser.
2. Security Alert is raised.
3. Click on the View Certificate button.
4. In the Certificate Window, click on the Details tab.
5. Click on the Copy to File button to copy the certificate.
6. Copy the certificate and append to the certdb.txt file. -
Difference between Java applet and JavaFX

I am studying javaFX in general. As far as I understand there is no main difference between java applet and javafx, except javafx has different syntax and library simple to use. Is it right?Basically, yes. But as you point out, it is supposed to be faster to develop in JavaFX...
For example, Processing allows to export to applet, and is strong on doing graphics, but to see if user has clicked on a circle, you have to check the mouse coordinates against the circle coordinates, or create your own Circle class: it is at a much lower level.
Likewise, you can use gaming frameworks like Slick2D or PulpCore, but they might be lacking on GUI (but perhaps faster). Or use Apache's Pivot, strong on GUI, but perhaps lacking a bit on graphics and animation.
It depends on your needs, if you prefer to stick to Java, etc. -

we are using dynamic java versioning for the JRE, the following is also from my formsweb.cfg configuration file. Please note, it is set to 1.5 and higher, so if you have 1.6_13 JRE on the clients, the following will still work. There is a recent whitepaper on OTN dated January 2009 (Oracle 10gR2 Forms Services - Using Sun's Java Plug-in), which also provides detailed information on using Sun JRE.

Hi,
We are using Forms 6i deployed using 9iAS Release 1(1.0.2.2.2a).
We are using the "Forms Listener Servlet" implementation, and have successfully configured Apache (Oracle HTTP Server) using mod_ssl to use Server Side certificates to provide SSL / HTTPS communications.
I have also been attempting to validate the existence of Client Side (personal) certificates. This has been successful when accessing normal Web Pages, but not when accessing the Forms Application.
We are using JInitiator on the client (1.1.8.19), and receive a Java Exception ---
javax.net.ssl.SSLException: SSL handshake failed: SSLSessionNotFoundErr
Looking on the server logs, we can see the following error
OpenSSL: error:140890C7:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_CLIENT_CERTIFICATE:peer did not return a certificate [Hint: No CAs known to server for verification?]
I have used all the Oracle documentation (notes 130728.1, 147836.1 and 161161.1), but nowhere does this state that Client Side Certification is supported by using JInitiator (or any other JVM).
Searching other forums, it appears that this may just not be
supported by any JVM running on the client machine.
Has anyone any information or expererience of successfully using Client Side Certificates to deploy Oracle Forms with 9iAS ?

Problem with java applet and array of arrays
hi!
i'm passing an array of arrays from java applet using
JSObject.getWindow(applet).call("jsFunction", array(array(), array()) );
in every other browser than safari 4.0.2 it's no problem to iterate over this array. in safari "array.length" is undefined. is such construction supported in safari's js engine?

The method waiting a ArrayofAlicIva, but if i define this object is not posible to set the object inside the array because the wsdl not have this functions.
I need to define array of objects but the object is inside is the diferent type of array.

Batch procedure in Forms 10g, calling rdf and send by mail
Hi all,
I need your advice regarding my task: i have a table with invoices of some clients. I have created a report in Oracle Reports 10g R2, so to have a pdf with all the data from this table.
I have created a form in Forms 10g R2, displaying in a screen one field, where the user can choose the date of invoice. Then i will query by that date all my invoices in that table, and then i want to create a procedure in Forms, so that for every line in that table with the invoice date just chosen i will run HOST(rwrun ... all my parameters).
My questions:
1. I need to read some more about how to create a custom xml so to pass to my rwrun, and depending on the records fetched in my cursors in Forms 10g, i will pass a xml variable to my reports, so i will get the data from Forms 10g in the report created in Oracle Reports 10g. Is there any way that i can grep the errors? I need to create some insertions based on succes on failure, how can i accomplish this?
2. Is the above described scenario way to complicated to loop throuh a cursor, create a pdf, and mail the pdf until the cursor is totally fetched? Do you recommend me a simpler way to accomplish this task?

I have a report with all my clients, with their email addresses in the same report. Each client as unique account number or invoice number.
So i want to burst and distribute each invoice to the corresponding client:
1. I have set REPEAT ON: INVOICE in oracle reports.
2. From Oracle Reports, i click on Distribution list, and in the DESNAME i type email_address (which is the column from the table with the invoices).
3. Then, File >> Distribute. Says: distribution completed succesfully, but nothing happens.
Question:
1. Where am i mistaking?
2. Is there any log activity file that i could see what the application is doing, step by step?

Socket communication failure between Java applet and C++ application
I have a java applet that connects to a C++ application via Java's ServerSocket and Socket objects. THe C++ application is using the Winsock 2 API. The applet and application are running on an NT workstation (SP 6) and using IE (5.5) For a very simple C++ test applications the communictions work fine. Once more code gets added to the C++ application the portion of the socket that C++ listens to seems to close. Upon performing a recv call the return value is a zero. Microsoft insists this is a sign the Java side has shut down the socket. The Java applet can still receive messages from the C++ app but C++ cannot receive responses from the Java side. Java throws no exceptions and an explicit check of the socket shows no errors. Again, what puzzles me is that it works for simple C++ applications. Are there any known conflicts between Java and C++ in this regard?

This quite strongly implicates the extra code in the C++ App. The firstly thing I would try would be telnet. Try connecting to both versions of the C++ Application and manually reproducing a proper exchange.

A correct implementation of recv should return the number of bytes received, or -1 for an error. A zero return indicates no bytes received not a socket closed/error. This sounds like FUD to me.
Are there any known conflicts between Java and C++ in this regard?
I can see no obvious faults, though the code is incomplete, I don't think it's an sockets implementation issue, at either end, it sounds more likely to be a protocol/handshaking bug in the C++ App. -
How do I integrate Java Applet and JavaScript?

This has been asked before, I have read the archives, yet I'm still left with some doubts, and some posts are VERY old and may not apply today. (sorry, some questions might seem stupid, this is my first applet). The purpose is to create a light weight application for managing certificates stored on a smart card, requesting certificate renewal from a server and installing the issued certificate on the card.
I need to create an applet (signed) to bridge the gab caused by the security limitations of JavaScript in order to access the smart card on the client. The applet will manage certificates on the card and do client-card interaction, while all client-server and user interaction is done by AJAX/JavaScript.
So, the applet is actually supposed to be an invisible object embedded on the page that is accessed by the JavaScript. How do I go about this?
- is there any reason to prefer JApplet over Applet?
- do the JavaScript need to invoke start() or init() or is this done on page load?
- are there limitations on data exchange with the applet (ie. only string types)?
- how do I throw exceptions from the applet to the calling script?
and: will is it better to let JavaScript do all http to keep the applet light, or to let the applet fetch files given a URL (to fetch the new certificate)?
If the applet is stored in a jar-file, how do I indicate which class/method to invoke? Do the JavaScript have access to public methods only?

We are upgrading from SRM 3.0 to 5.0 and are encountering these 2 issues:
1- When clicking on approval preview users get a Java pop up box titled "request authentication", the warning message is: Identification Required. Please select certificate to be used for authentication." when the click okay it disappears and approval preview is displayed. No configuration is maintained for signed java applet.
2- in shop create on the web, everytime the page gets refreshed from entering data or clicking on an icon, it displays back in sections starting with the top of the page (default settings for items) and it may take up to 20 seconds for the whole page to finally get displayed.
If anyone has encountered and was able resolve these issues, please let me know.

RichardNot sure if this issue is resolved, but the 1st question is something which is related to the IT Network/PC division folks. The certificate is termed "unsafe" or "not trusted" by your network, this is why you get the popup everytime. Inform the network division of your company which is responsible for the maintenance of servers/workstations to add this certificate into the "trusted certificate" list of their servers. Even your basis team should be able to guide you.

Best practice Forms 10g configuration setup and tuning

We are currently depolying forms 10g from 6i client/server version. Users are experiencing Form hangups and hour glasses. This does not happen that often but can happen any time, anywhere in the app (users do inserts, updates and deletes and queries).
Is there a baseline best practice configuration setup anywhere either in the Forms side or the AppServer side of things?
Here is our setup:
Forms 10g (9.0.4)
Reports 10g (9.0.4)
Oracle AppServer 10g (9.0.4)
OS = RedHat Linux
Client Workstations run on Windows 2000 and XP w/ Internet Explorer 6 or higher
Average No. of users = 250

It is possible one or more files could be open when the shutdown is initiated.
Have found at least one case of misconfigured IP which would have resulted in the disk access being via the 'Front End' interface rather than the Back End.

We use JAVA as a client for secure SSL connection. For this is a SSL root certificate necessary, if not, the SSL handshake fails due the trust relationship.
SUN introduced the feature in version 1.5, that JAVA can use OS keystore and grab ROOT certificate from there.
Unfortunately, this is not working anymore with JAVA 1.6 and if the ROOT is not present in JAVA keystore, the SSL handsake fails. Once the ROOT is imported in JAVA keystore, the SSL works fine. SUN JAVA 1.5 works fine with same environment and ROOT does not need to be in JAVA keystore.
The failed SSL handsake is visible in Ethereal Sniffing log and is always reproducible.
Please, are there known issues, that SUN JAVA 1.6.x can not use OS keystore, but only JAVA keystore ? Are there any reported bugs ?Right. Hopefully you've gotten acquainted with this:

Is the CA on the DC also issuing certs, or is it just the Enterprise Root and there are subordinates issuing certs? I ask because if it's just the Enterprise Root but not actually issuing certs, that simplifies things greatly. If it's issuing
certs, one thing to research is what certs are currently issued, how often they are renewed, and what they are used for. This will give you an idea how much risk you're looking at during cutover.
To address the specific question of what happens to a desktop that has been offline during the cutover, as I understand it the desktop will pull the new PKI information (new AIA path, new CDP if that gets changed) from AD when it comes back online.
This data is stored in "CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Domain,DC=COM" in AD. In a nutshell, it should be seamless to that particular client. -
Anyconnect and client certificates for dynamic access policies (dap)
I'm faced with the challenge of rolling out AnyConnect to our clients (which I've done before at another job) but in this case we want to 'NAC' vpn clients... We're still in discussion around the security policy and those details, but I wanted to see if folks on this forum could chime in with their experience on this.
We have a mix of Windows, Linux and MACs that are corporate issued devices that should receive some form of posture checking and then be granted access. Personal devices would also be subjected to some level of posture checking, but if during the initial scan it was deemed that this is not a corporate machine, then that machine would have very limited access.
From what I've read, the OS agnostic route to take is using certificates. I'm looking for design tips or docs that would assist in rolling this out. We do not have a PKI infrastructure today. So some of the questions I have are:
Can the ASA manage all of the client issued certs? From enrollment to revocation?
Or would I look to my Windows infrastructure for that? And if so, how does that integrate with the ASA?
Client certs vs machine certs?
Any advice from high level to low level or partial answers would be appreciated...

I am trying to run java applet in different env.:
#1. windows2000, sun java1.3.1, webstart 1.0.1;
#2. linux RedHat 7.1 kernel 2.4.2-2, sun java1.3.1, webstart 1.0.1;
#3. linux RedHat 7.0, kernel 2.2.16-22, sun java1.3.0-01, webstart 1.0.1;
#4.SunOs5.8, sun java1.3.0, webstart 1.0.1.
I found that webstart can't launch applet into a full size under #2.
Applet runnable, no error msg in java console, but the applet frame
size is decrease into min. At the same time this application perfectly
runnable without any changes under the other env.(#1, #3, #4).
