Forms Developer on Linux
Hello,
I am working with Forms Developer 6.i.
I need to automatically create a file in the IAS and show it in the client. My application server is a linux machine and the client is Microsoft (Windows XP).
I tried to use the OLE library in Developer 6.i. I don’t get any compilation errors, but the “ole2.create_obj('Excel.Application')” function generates the following error in execution: “FRM 40735:KEY-COMMIT trigger raised unhandled exception ORA305501”. If I execute the code in in a client/sever environment, it works. I think it is obvious that this does not work for linux, but I don't know which library or function I could use.
Thanks a lot and regards.
Well...does not work for me. I get an ora-06502 error...just when it's doing APPID := DDE.APP_BEGIN('C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\excel.EXE',dde.app_mode_minimized);
I need to create an excel file on the client; and the application is on a linux machine. Does anybody know how I can do this if I'm using Forms Developer 6i?
Thanks a lot.

How to install downloaded Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release 2 for linux
Hi folks,
I downloaded d2k6irelease2.tar (Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release
2 for linux) from
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/forms/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
I untar the file on my linux machine however the extracted files don't
seem to contain any installing program. I didn't find products.jar in the
files and there are no script to install the software. I read the attached
doc, however it only assumes that the installation is from CD-ROM. The doc
doesn't help anything for this downloaded software. I wonder if anyone
here know how to install it. Thank you so much.
Best regards,
Kai HuangThere should be a text based installer in the /orainst sub-
directory
In that directory, just run the script:
./orainst
The installer seems to require libXm.a, which wasn't included in
my RH 7.1 installation, so I had to install the motif-
development libraries before the full install would complete
successfully. -
Installing Forms Developer 6i on Linux
When I try to install Forms Developer (Server) 6i, I get an error that a file is missing, libXm.so.2. It seems to be connected to the Motif library that the installer asked for, but the server doesn't have Motif. Is it a requirement to install Developer?
Also, if I try to install it and select Create Database Objects, I don't get that error, but I get another one that goes like this:
'rdbms' software is not available in the current distribution source and has not been installed. You must obtain and install 'rdbms' software from some other source first. Note: You may also get this error if the Installer registry file has been overwritten.
Can anyone help me?

weblogic server installation is perfect no errors at all.
i also got the errors i got during installation ( im_emagent.mk and while running command gcc) . but thanks to OTN Forums i had managed to find out a fix. but on this error only solution i got is
TRY WINDOWS . but what about linux then? is there any solution on this error?
i am not much used to front-end ( java i mean). i am Oracle DBA Actually n want to install n try Weblogic
Kindly Help...You can just copy the relevant parts (the ones marked with error). You can also look at the timing
when it happened the reports environment did not start.
From what i remember this could be a memory issue, standard every managed server (WLS_FORMS and WLS_REPORTS) instance
is configured with 1024m bytes of memory.
What we did is first install a forms instance and after that a reports instance. After the forms installation we adjusted the
memory parameters in setWLSEnv (<middleware-home>/user_projects/domains/<domain-name>/bin). Look in this file
for references to WLS_FORMS (something similar to: if [ "${SERVER_NAME}" = "WLS_FORMS" ] ; then).
Another thing which springs to my mind is, which products did you select. If you just want Forms and Reports
you can select just the following:
- Oracle Forms
- Oracle Reports
- Developer Tools aan.
- Management Components
- Oracle HTTP Server
and deselect the other options:
- Oracle Portal
- Oracle Discoverer
- Oracle WebCache
- Clustered (if you are not using clustering)
We also had to fix the following files (i do not think that you have to do this since your Forms did not show any problems):
- (On Windows) Copy the file msvcr71.dll (FMW/windows/extra) to WINDOWS/system32.
- Copy the file mod_wl_ohs.so (FMW/<operating-system>/extra) to <middleware-home>/as_1/ohs/modules. -
Problems compiling and running 9i forms on 10g Linux app server
Hi all,
we are about to move our 9i developed forms application from W2k 9ias RL2 to a 10g linux application server. It seems that we are having very much trouble with the fact that file names are case-sensitive under linux. Our forms are designer-generated and afterwards modified using forms developer under win2k. Therefore these forms have designer plls attached (OFG*.pll). In addition, we use a few custom plls and an object library (*.olb). We managed to compile our fmbs to fmx using f90genm.sh on linux, but getting FRM-40735 and ORA-06508 errors at runtime. FORMS90_PATH in default.env is correct.
We took one fmb to narrow things down. Steps we took on development machine:
- Rename all plls to a format of uppercase name and lowercase extension (e.g. OFGBSL.pll)
- Reattach plls to the form
After that
- Move fmb and plls to linux machine
- compile the fmb without errors
At runtime, we get a ORA-06508 in a trigger that calls CGFK$LKUP_QRY.EXTEND_WHERE. This procedure is located in OFGTEL.pll. OFGTEL.pll has OFGMES.pll attached. We tried to compile OFGTEL.pll, but getting errors due to the fact that table CG_REF_CODES is not present in our db (we don't use it).
Other plls like OFGBSL.pll and our custom pll work well (proved by debugging).
Can anybody give us some hints or step-by-step instructions on how to move our application to linux, especially how to make OFGTEL.pll usable?
Thanks in advance
Gerald KriegerHere is a part of code from OFGTEL.pll
IF (curr_value IS NOT NULL) THEN
SELECT decode(RV_HIGH_VALUE, NULL, RV_LOW_VALUE, curr_value)
, RV_MEANING
INTO new_value
, P_MEANING
FROM CG_REF_CODES
WHERE ( (RV_HIGH_VALUE IS NULL AND
/* this will compare them as chars, as the */
/* abbreviation will most often be a char */
curr_value IN (RV_LOW_VALUE, RV_ABBREVIATION)) OR
(to_number(curr_value) BETWEEN
to_number(RV_LOW_VALUE) AND to_number(RV_HIGH_VALUE))
AND ROWNUM = 1
i think the unix .pll and Win .pll are not the same -
Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release 2
Hi folks,
I downloaded d2k6irelease2.tar (Oracle Forms Developer/Services 6i Release
2 for linux) fromhttp://otn.oracle.com/software/products/forms/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
Best regards,
SlimHi,
First use gunzip utility to unzip .gz file. Once you are done, you will get a .tar file. Use tar -xvf to untar the file to a directory. It is similar to unzip.

Problems Connecting to Database in Forms Developer
Please can someone help me, I installed Oracle9i personal edition on my PC (OS XP PRO) about 4 months ago. But I've only just started using the forms developer. When I try to run the form in the browser window I can't connect to the database. The application freezes and won't respond. Occasionally I get the error message
ORA-12514 saying TNS listener cannot resolve the service name. My tnsnames.ora file seems to be correct but I'm not sure if it is in the right directory?
Can someone please give me some advice.
Thankyou.Guys,
I have been doing this for years - on solaris, linux and windows. You have 2 Oracle homes - one for the database and one for the forms. 6i - or iDS does not matter - 2 Oracle Homes. Same on Linux/Solaris/Windows - ok.
Define the TNS_ADMIN environment variable (applies to all 3 OS above). Set it to a directory of your choice - better yet create one. On solaris and linux /var/opt/oracle is a good choice. On windows create a directory of your choice. Also define the TWO_TASK and ORACLE_SID environment variables to match your database server settings.
Ftp the database server's tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files to the directory you created (TNS_ADMIN points to).
To be certain that you are not using the Forms' Home/network/admin/tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files - rename them. You will not use them and you won't need them (unless you want to edit them to include the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora entries from your Database server's /network/admin/tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files.
That is it - next time you connect from the forms you should be able to connect. If you want provide the connect string (3rd field in the connection window) to ensure you pointing to the right db server.
You don't need to configure your Forms' network services again - all you do is use the Oracle database server's network configuration files.
Hope this proves useful. -
From Forms Product Management - Linux Clients
Guys, I'm interested to know if there are people out their who plan to run web deployed Forms through Linux clients?
What versions/flavour of Linux and what browsers are you thinking of using.
Thanks
Grant Ronald
Forms Product ManagementYes, I am really interested in that issue and spent lot of time looking for any available documents in the web. I still could not get to to work. I do not consider moving to Microsoft platforms due to many reasons.
I am trying Oracle 9i R2(9.2.0.1.0) and (Forms) Developer Suite R2 (9.0.2.0.0) on Linux 9 (version 1.0). Installations, listeners, OC4J, and Apache Server look fine, but I am getting the error "URL not found", when I tried to run the form designed by me through the client.
I heard that "Oracle does not support Linux Client." Is that right? If it is the case, is there another way that we can use Linux Client and Forms to develop application interfaces?
Thanks

RupMy suggestion would be to try converting the form to XML using <10gHome>\bin\frmf2xml.bat, and altering this XML to look like R1 XML. Simply changing the Module version might do the trick, but probably not.
To see the difference between 10gR1 and 10gR2 XML formats, take a reasonably complex R1 form and convert it to XML. Next, upgrade that same form to R2 and convert it to XML. Compare the two XML files.
Applying the knowledge gained from this comparison, modify the XML from your original R2 form. Try converting back to FMB using <10gHome>\bin\frmxml2f.bat Please share your findings with the forum!
Hope this helps,
Eric Adamson

PS: It is assumed that you have access to both 10gR1 and R2 installations! -

Still not able to CONNECT to Forms Developer
Yesterday I received gernerous help from forum participant Shay,
who walked me through the setup process (TNS Listener and
TNSNAMES.ora, etc.) but I still cannot connect. I'm missing
something fundamental.
I have MS Windows 2000 version of Oracle Personal Edition 8i
installed in directory ora81. The version of SQL*Plus that
came with it works fine--I can connect to the database, create,
drop, insert, etc.
Oracle Forms Developer 6 is installed in directory orant. I can open
the application but not connect. I tried to use Net8 Easy Config to
define a new entry in tnsnames.ora, but every attempt fails in the
GUI's test. (I told Shay that I got the test to work, but I was
mistaken.) Next I manually changed the the tnsnames.ora file in
orant\NET80\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora, which then shows up in the Config
tool but still fails the test to connect. How does this tnsnames.ora
file work with the tnsnames.ora file in ora81\network\ADMIN?
Meanwhile, Personal Edition is running fine. The tnslsnr is running.
I looked both in Services and, using Task Manager, in Processes.
Oracle.exe is also running. I ran lsnrctl status and got the following:
Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)
(KEY=EXTPROC1)))
...and then it gives status info, which indicates listener is on.
How do you get Forms Developer to connect to the database that is
clearly running?Start the Oracle Net8 Easy Config from the start menu. Add a new service name:add the name of your database. Choose "Bequeath" as a type of protocole because you are connecting to a local database which is on your own machine. Change the default SID to the name of your database.
I think it will work . -
Calling Stored procedure in Oracle 11g from Oracle forms developer 6i
We have Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7.0 ) database (64 bit) installed on Windows Server 2008.
In this database, we have stored procedure ABC(arg1) which is accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK. If we EXECUTE this procedure from SQL/TOAD. It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
If we write the contents of the stored procedure in the PROGRAM UNIT / ANY TRIGGER in FORM 6i then also, It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
It is also mentioned, that if we try to use any table in the same instance (and not through DBLINK) then it works fine.
However, if we try to call this stored procedure (which is accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK) from ORACLE FORMS 6i in WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger then the FORM BUILDER gets hanged while compiling the form developed in FORMS 6i.
Please provide a solution to this problem.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Hemant Singh.
Asstt. Manager(IT)
Software development team.Forms 6i was never meant to run against a 11g database, this was not tested and is also not supported.Well, that is not completely true. Developer 6i is supported against a 11g database, but only for Oracle Apps R11. That means that for most other customers (not Apps) Forms 6i will work against an 11g database. However, only Apps R11 is supported, and patches are only created specifically for Apps. We are also running Forms 6i against an 11g database without (well, minor) problems.
In this case, you need to find a solution. You can try to put the stored procedure in a package. The package body, with the reference to the remote table, will be hidden from Forms this way. -
