Forms6i and oracle JSP

Hi All!.
I developed a form whic is not based on any base table for passing parameter to reports.
This form has a startup procedure, and accepts a parameter. Depending upon the parameter, it queries a table which gives the detail to form about what are the field required, and how they will be placed in the canvas and also the maximum size of the canvas and the window. These all are handled at runtime with the help of triggers and some form level procedures.
But my problem is when this form is requested through a browser (forms 6i server) by the marketing officers (they normally logs in through the dialup line) has to weight a a couple of minutes to get it displayed (because of appletbased technology). Hence I decieded to change this to JSP.
Can anybody help me out how can I do that....?? Is there any tools available which can directly convert the forms binary to a JSP page....
An early reply will be highly solicited.
With Regards.
Soumen.

There are some companies that offer tools for such a migration. Check out http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/htdocs/FormsJavaSOD.html

  • Forms6I and Oracle Client

    What Oracle Client (8.0.5 or 8.1.6) should be used for Forms6I. Would an 8.0.5 client have performance issues with Forms6I

    Hi,
    I would be interested in this topic as well.
    I'm fooking for functionality which makes possible to store at admin level db access information and EUL, etc., regarding Discoverer, and for each user its own, attached this to SSO users. Thats the way Resource Access Descriptors work in 9i Forms and Reports.
    Resource Access Descriptors make possible to provide for our users only the SSO username and SSO pwd. Everything else related to db connection information is handled in the background by the application server's servlets.
    Are the Oracle's technologies related to SSO convergent?
    I hope so...
    Any help or workaround would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Forms6i and Oracle Database8i Enterprise

    Hello all. I am having a very tough time getting my oracle forms 6i and database 8i to talk to each other. If someone could help me out, that would be great. I know you need to install 6i first then 8i enterprise. I know you also have to put in some lines of code into your tnsnames.ora file in order for it all to work. If someone could post what I need to put in (the more detail the better), it would be very highly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Guy

    Firstly configure the listener in the server and start the services.. u could find the services icon in the control panel of Windows NT, try connecting from the node , even after this, u cannot able to connect, uninstall the complete forms 6i from the client and reinstall in a new directory, and configure the net 8 easy config and specify the proper IP,HOST Name and Exact SID .. u shd. be able to connect, if u r connecting the first time, try using System/Manager Login , much b'fore try connecting to the database using Sql*Net in the server itself, if it works fine .. then u shd. be able to connect from the client using the above suggestions..

  • Forms6i and oracle 8i

    dear all
    I installed oracle server 8i and it works fine .after that I
    installed oracle forms 6i but I can not connect to the server
    from the forms and I found
    the following errors
    the following error I found when I entered only username and
    password in forms query or forms SQL PLUS environment
    TNS : unable to connect to destination
    and sometimes when I enter the db string I found the
    following error:
    invalide driver designator
    please explain every step in the solution because I am not
    experienced developer
    best regsrds

    Hi,I am a new comer too, and I had the same problem like you.
    I solved this problem by this:
    You should try copying TNSNAMES.ORA from your oracle_home
    directory/Network/Admin (my path is D:\ORA81\NETWORK\ADMIN) to
    the Forms' home directory /Net80/Admin (my path is D:\ORANT\NET80
    \ADMIN).
    It's Marco's solution, but a guy called OT said it didn't work,
    I don't know why, he just said his own solution is:
    install Forms 6 first, then install the Ora 8i.
    Hope this could help you.

  • Hierarchical Tree IN Oracle FORMS6i and oracle 9i

    Hi ,
    I have written all the scenarios as follows. Please write in steps to do this.
    I have the follwing scenario to create the hierarchical tree.
    The display is as follows when the user comes to this screen.
    CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
    SCOTT This block is hidden
    John
    The way I want it when the user is clicking scott it is displaying the records in the other block
    the full tree expanded not collapasble.
    Scenario1
    CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
    SCOTT President
    VP
    Manager
    Same is over here in scenario2
    Scenario2
    CTRLBLK1 CTRLBLK2
    John President
    VP
    Manager
    Clerk
    The tree should be displayed not collapsed. What is way to do the above
    in forms. I tried to do the way suggested in OTN. But i didnot reached to the solution.
    The way I want it when the user is clicking scott it is displaying the records in the other block
    the full tree expanded not collapasble.
    Pls help.
    Thanks,
    PS

    1) create a item Hierarchical Tree,
    ANS: The tree is created
    2) put this to pull in data to the Tree
    DECLARE
    l_query VARCHAR2(500);
    BEGIN
    l_query := '';
    FTREE.SET_TREE_PROPERTY ( c_tree_blk_item_nm, FTREE.QUERY_TEXT, l_query );
    FTREE.POPULATE_TREE ( c_tree_blk_item_nm );
    go_node ( c_tree_root_node );
    IF FTREE.GET_TREE_PROPERTY (c_tree_blk_item_nm, FTREE.NODE_COUNT ) = 1 THEN
    po_found := FALSE;
    ELSE
    po_found := TRUE;
    END IF;
    END;
    Ans: I wrote this code in WHEN_NEW_FORM_INSTANCE trigger. But the code didnot got compiled . I did cut and paste of query too.
    Pls help me in defining the c_tree_blk_item_nm and go_node ( c_tree_root_node ). I was thinking some code of this type would work.
    The code itself didnot got compiled. It didnot ran.
    3) put this coding into WHEN-TREE-NODE-SELECTED trigger under the item, this is to populate the data to other block when u select the tree node.
    IF :SYSTEM.TRIGGER_NODE_SELECTED = 'TRUE' THEN
    GO_BLOCK ( 'BK_AGT' );
    EXECUTE_QUERY;
    SYNCHRONIZE;
    end if;
    BK_AGT is the 2nd control block .
    Help me in solution for this scenario in creating the hierarchical tree in forms6i.

  • Oracle forms6i and Oracle server 10G compatability

    Does anybody know if I can run 6i forms with 10G server?

    Not sure about 10g Rel 2 (I didn't try it). I used Forms 6i with 10g Rel 1 without problems.
    But be aware that, anyway, the combination is not certified.

  • Storing / Retrieving PDF using JSP and Oracle

    Dear All
    I am building web application using Macromedia Dreamweaver , using JSP , Tomcat and Oracle 10gR1.
    I need to build a JSP to upload a PDF file to the database and have a way to retrieve it from the database ,, all through JSP .
    I need hints about the building architecture and how it is done ,, samples of code will be great.
    Thank You Very Much

    Use JSP, Servlet and some third party API (Apache Common File Upload) to store the PDF document in blob column.

  • Database locking using JSP and Oracle database

    Dear All
    I am reading about how to do database locking in general and i want to implement these mechanisms using JSP pages and oracle database, but i have the following questions:-
    1.If i write a “select for update” quesry in the JSP page will it locks the record ? or it will not lock the record because the connection between the JSP pages and the server will be stateless in most online systems?
    2.If i write all my jave code in transaction , something like this:-
    • Begin transaction
    • Commit or
    • Rollback
    Then should i be worried about the locking issues or the database manger will handle the locking mechanisms to insure data integrity(and what the default mechanism (if any) that the oracle database manger use to do the locking)?
    3. If the answer for question 2 is no, then how can i handle the optimistic and the pentemistic locking using JSP pages?
    BR

    One way to solve this issue is as follows:
    * You add a new column to each database table called 'version' which is of int type.
    * Each time you alter any field in a record, you increament the version number.
    * When you read a record and display it, you store the version number in your code
    * when you go to update the record, you write your sql something like this:
    update person set firstName=? where personId=? and version=?
    Where the version is whatever you stored locally. If someone altered the record in the database while your
    end user was looking at it, the version numbers will not match and the sql statement will
    return zero as the number of records it altered. If its zero, inform the end user someone altered the record
    while he was looking at it and weather or not he wants to proceed.
    The chances of two people altering the same record in a table while both are logged in and viewing the same set of data is small so such collisions will be few.
    You only need transactions if you are updating more than one record at a time (in the same table or multiple tables).
    You dont need it for reading records if you use a single sql statement to read (for example: to join multiple tables).
    In general, you get a (pooled) connection, use it, and close it as quickly as possible in a try/catch/finally block. You dont hold onto it for the duration of the user's session. A book on JDBC should help clarify this.

  • Oracle and/or jsp learning hosting?

    Umm... I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question, but I'm a web programmer, wanting to learn more about jsp and oracle web development (among other things,) and I was wondering if anyone knew of places where I could get a learning website for either or both without breaking the bank? Thank you in advance, Chris K.

    Also consider the number of users anticipated. If you expect hundreds of users, >>avoid Forms. In Forms thread counts are maxed out too quickly, number of >>sessions is limited, and resource utilization is higher. 1.are you sure about the number of users restriction , i know that Oracle might be the best database for supporting a huge number of users it support hundreds and hundreds of users and that why large organization use Oracle , and if this is not true then what will be the advantege for using oracle forms over JSP pages
    2.and what you mean by ''In Forms thread counts are maxed out too quickly''
    3.and as i know that the number of seesion has to do with the database it self not with the forms that run at the client side,to be honest it is the first time i know that Oracle does no support a huge number of user.
    Thanks alot

  • How do you handle long strings between JSP forms and Oracle?

    I am using Apache 1.3.12 with JServ 1.1 and Oracle 8.0.4 on NT4 development Server.
    I am developing an application where one component allows authors to contribute articles or comments via a JSP page. I am noticing a problem when the info in the form gets too long (> 2000 characters). 99% of the inserts fall well within this limitation. The remaining 1% is sufficiently significant that I can't use a VARCHAR. It seems that SQL*NET chokes on large strings.
    My immediate workaround for these messages is to break them up into segments. Instead of storing the text or a message directly in a message table, I've added another table, msg_text, with columns msg_id, seg_num, and seg_text. On insert the message is split into segments limited to the smaller of the query limit and database varchar limit, minus the overhead of the sql query. This makes for an ugly insert operation, though and I would very interested to see if anyone out there has a better way to accomplish this task directly with CLOBs.

    The apparent problem with LONGs is that, of course, you can only have one per table.
    I had exactly this problem and ended up with several tables for one Business Entity, which is not really satisfactory.
    For the next phase of the Project, I will investigate:
    Putting these tables into a View.
    Putting Instead Of triggers on the View to "synchronise" changes to all underlying tables.
    Basing my BC4J Entity Object on the View...
    ... and I hope that Bob will be my uncle.
    I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has already tried this, or you if you give it a go.

  • Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms

    Hi,
    Does anyone have experience with Oracle Spatial and Oracle Forms?
    I have generated a form, which is based on a view. The view uses the mdsys.sdo_relate operator. Somehow I am unable to get the form to perform (to get one record it takes over 20 minutes). While useing sql-navigator to process the same statement it seems no problem. The query that also uses the view, is then processed in 10 seconds.
    I also noticed that when text-functions like ' lower' of ' upper' are used to query the view, the query is processed within 15 seconds. If I don't use ' lower' or ' upper' it takes a long time (> 20 minutes) to process the query. Is it possible that this causes the bad performance of the form?
    On metalink I have found that forms and spatial do not cooperate because of the pl/sql version that
    forms6 uses. There is no solution presented, does anyone know of a work around?
    My configuration is:
    Oracle 8.1.7 on WIN2K @ PIII-800Mhz 256 Mb memory.
    Formsbuilder 6
    If requested I can post the queries that I have made.

    I'm new to using Oracle 10G. After reviewing several rdms's I've picked Oracle 10G as my rdms. I'm trying to build an ecommerce site using DreamWeaver MX 2004 and Oracle 10G. The website will be selling hardware and software products. I have a choice in DreamWeaver to go for a .asp or .jsp setup. I have several questions, here goes:
    1. Is there any book/tutorial/whitepaper out there that describes building an ecommerce site using Oracle 10G/9I/8I? Just some examples as how to make the datamodel regarding the shopping basket etc.
    2. I prefer DreamWeaver as it let's me make nice looking css style based pages without throttling too much through the code. Are there Oracle tools which allow me to make an advanced nice looking ecommerce site?
    I hope some of you can help me get started. Any effort is appreciated.

  • PDF PRINTING using Apache FOP and Oracle Containers for J2EE

    Hi,
    I am having major confusion about the pdf printing in Oracle XE and Apex 3.1.2.00.02
    It clearly states that this is an available option on the Oracle website.
    According to Apex there are two options for printing report regions.
    Standard - which is free
    Advanced - which uses BI and requires a licence
    Standard requires me to have Apache FOP (which is provided by Oracle in the Apex release) and Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
    Where my understanding of all this falls down is the part where I am downloading the Oracle Containers for J2EE and the license agreement states this cannot be used in a production system (only as a protptype). Can anyone clarify this? This is surely a required componenet and for the standard report printing which is supposed to be free.
    My problem is that I need to have a database system on a laptop that will go off site for a number of weeks. We need report printing options.
    Can anyone help with this. im desperate.
    Kind regards

    no not yet with Application Server.
    I have tried to compare the settings to another installation with a separeted oc4j as described in the howto. But at the moment i found no mistakes.
    If i call the url adresse like:
    http://localhost:18101/fop/apex_fop.jsp
    i get:
    500 Internal Server Error
    Servlet error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: fop.apex__fop
    I installed it another time with these settings:
    Web Anwendung= .../fop.war (selected war file from apex install directory)
    Anwendungsname= fop
    URL zuordnen= /fop
    I would like to know if its possible to use the fop.war out of apex install directory with the Application server? In the standalone version (as described in howto) it works. But if you install it there you don't need to define an URL.
    Is the URL /fop correct or what do i have to insert there?

  • Re: execution problem with oracle jsp under apache

    i followed the instruction to install oracle jsp running on apache 1.3.9 and apacheJServ/1.1b3 under win nt 4.0 with sp5. i created a servlet zone to hold the jsp file but for some reason it will not look the the dir specified in the jserv.conf. it look at the dir under apache document root dir.. therefore, i created a dir under the apache root dir and then it was able to compile the hellouser.jsp correctly. when i run lotto.jsp, the image files would not display. why?

    Apache Servlet zones allow you separate servlet (sets) into distinct classloaders. The OJSP servlet needs to exist in a servlet zone. However the content the OJSP servlet operates on (the .jsp file) lives in the document root directory just like your other web content. OJSP does support a configuration/init parameter whereby you can explicitly specify a physical directory other than what is mapped via the Apache settings. Please consult the documentation if you want to do this.
    As for why the lottery images aren't being displayed, more information is needed. The generated page should create local references to the images files. Are the images in where they are expected to be? Can you be more explicit about the URI you send and the physical structure of the Lottery sample in the file system?
