Autofill in Numbers 3.0

I am sure I can't see it, but is there a way to autofill in numbers 3.0 ie:
11/10/2013
18/10/2013
25/10/2013
01/11/2013
08/11/2013
I used to be able to select the above and drag down and numbers 2.3 would fill in the dates correctly. So the next date would be 15/11/13.

Hi Nakeeb,
Numbers will fill incremented values when filling dates IF you select either a single value or two values. With a single date selected, the dates willl increment by one day per row. If two dates are selected, the increment will be the difference between the two selected dates.
Exceptions: If the two dates are the same day of consecutive months, the increment will be to the same date in the next month. Where the first two dates are the 30th of December and the 30th of January, the next two will be the 28th (or 29th) of February and the 30th of March. Where the first two dates are the last days of two consecutive months, the increment will be to the last day of each month.
If more than two dates are selected, filling down will result in the selected dates repeating.
Regards,
Barry

If you are talking about Auto correction, go to Numbers Preferences, Auto correction preferences, Symbol and Text Substitution and delete the ones you don't want to have.
If ou are talking about Auto completion, go to Numbers Preferences, General, Editing, and uncheck "Show Autocompletion List in Table Columns".

  • Reader X, Windows 7, autofill forms wrong

Reader X, Windows 7, autofill forms wrong
I often use pre made forms at work in Reader X. I have auto complete turned on to basic and save numerical is checked, though I rarely use the same numbers.
I think this started with the an update of Reader a few months ago, but when I am typing in numbers in forms sometimes it will not take what I typed, it overrides it with a previously used item. Sometimes I am trying to enter say, 1214, it will start autofilling other numbers after I type the 2 and if I just keep tying it still takes the autofill number even if I ignore it. The only way to get the correct number is to let it auto fill then go back and correct it and delete the ending characters that it filled in.
I did not create the forms I'm using, they are provided by my state and I cannot modify them.
I searched the web and the forums here and didn't find anything.

I am having the same problem but I don't think it has anything to do with the permissions or account information. This just started out of nowhere a few weeks ago. I tried installing a few older versions of adobe but I either get the same message, "An internal error occurred." or a different error message. I have attached a screenshot of the error message I keep getting. I also tried running the repair options via the control panel but that did not work. I can't change any settings within the program as each time I try to open it I immediately get the error message. I have uninstalled and installed adobe several times and there is no change.

  • Cannot Autofill sequential content into adjacent cells in Numbers

    Numbers V3.2 for OSX
    Problem #1:
I cannot Autofill sequential content into adjacent cells.  I enter Jan., Feb. into the first two cells, then try to use the little yellow ball to project Mar., Apr., etc. into the adjacent cells.  I'm new to Numbers, so maybe I'm missing something.  I've used Excel for over 25 years, and I'm now trying to convert to Numbers.
    Problem #2:
How do you link a cell from one spreedsheet to a second spreedsheet?  I read all of the Help files and can't find a reference.
    Thanks for your help!

    HI Paul,
"I found that one of my problems is that I abbreviated the month, i.e., Jan."
If you include a period after Jan, Numbers will not recognize it as a shortened month name. use "Jan" (without the quotes).
    Regarding linking cells:
If by "spreadsheets" you mean "Tables in the same document," cells in those two locations can be linked. In the simplest case (two tables on th same Sheet, or two tables, each with a name unique within the document, on separate Sheets, the Table name must be added to the cell reference.
Example: formula in a cell on table named "This" referencing cell B2 on a table named "That" located elsewhere in the same document:
    =That::B2
If the second table is in a different document, no. Numbers cannot reference external documents.
If this is a significant issue, Provide Numbers Feedback, using the item of that name in the Numbers menu, to make a feature request for a future version of Numbers.

    Same here. Miss it.

  • Deleted Contact numbers not actually deleted on text autofill list!!

I deleted a number of my Contacts/details that I didn't use anymore and now when I go to send a new text and enter a number or contact name, some of the old numbers pop up in the autofill box . How do I completely get rid of those numbers?

Right then: being unhappy with the advice given I have investigated further. Yes, it is possible to fix this problem.
This is how I did it:
Firstly buy the MyContactBackupPro app for you iPhone. Other apps are available and some are free. It doesn't matter which you use but make sure that the app is capable of sending your contacts list by e-mail.
Then backup your contact as per instructions in MCBUPro app.
e-mail the backup file to yourself as per instructions.
Now connect your phone to a PC/Mac and backup your iPhone using iTunes.
Now re-set you iPhone (settings/general/reset/erase all contents and settings) following on-screen instructions.
Your iPhone will now reboot itself as though it was a new phone. Follow on-screen instructions.
When phone has finished re-setting, re-enter your e-mail details.
Your emails will now download. This will include the e-mail that you sent to yourself with the contact backup app. Note:-  if you use POP mail then it is likely that your server will download all the mails it is holding. This can be quite a lot. In my case 2500! These have to be deleted by hand .......
Now copy your apps across from iTunes. DO NOT USE BACKUP OR RESTORE AS THIS WILL RE-INTRODUCE THE PROBLEM YOU ARE TRYING TO ELIMINATE.
Restore your contacts from the e-mail you sent your self and which is now again on your phone.
Copy across your ring tones, music, apps, photos, TV programs, films etc. Do this by drag n drop NOT Restore!!!
Your iPhone will now be back to normal without the old numbers in the Message autofill. All that remains for you to do is to redo the app layout and all is OK.

  • Autofilling cells with existing data above in column? Numbers 2.0 did it, seems lost in 3.0

Autofilling cells with existing data above in column? Numbers 2.0 did it, seems lost in 3.0
    Hello,
Just upgraded to Numbers 3.0 and use it for keeping the books on my business. When I input my receipts at the end of the day in to Numbers, it used to autofill the cell with suggestions as I type using existing data that is present in the same column within the table.
For example, I purchase parts from "Parts Store". Before instead of typing the entire phrase, I could just input the letter P and "Parts Store" would instantly pop up as a suggestion. I could hit enter and I would move on to the next cell. Made inputing data a lot easier.
It worked in 2.0, but seems lost in 3.0. Is there a way to turn this on? I tried searching with no luck.
    Thanks for your help!
    AJ

    Hi AJ,
Cells formatted as pop-up are designed for this purpose, to choose from a list of repeating values. Even less typing.  I like them better myself.  No typos.
In the new Numbers hitting the spacebar doesn't activate a list so you have to go to the trackpad or mouse to make a pick from the list. It's very fast for me, but that depends on your setup and habits.

  • Autofill bug using Numbers in Leopard when assigned to a Space

Has anyone else seen this bug?
I found a weird bug in Numbers. I have set Numbers to automatically load in Space #3. I wanted to cut and paste some information from a window in Space#2 so I moved the Numbers window to Space #2.
When I tab between cells and start typing, based on what the autofill options are it switches out the Numbers window, moving me to Space #3, leaving only the just the drop down menu with the autofill choices. For instance, if I type a 1 and the autofill choices are 150, 120, etc then it flips me to Spaces #3. It does the same thing regardless if I am entering a letter or digit.
If I move the Numbers window back to Space #3 it will display the autofill menu correctly.
Here are two images of the bug.
Image 1 shows the numbers window correctly. http://web.mac.com/bloetel/image1.png
Image 2 shows how the autofill window is the only thing showing when it switches to Space #3. http://web.mac.com/bloetel/image2.png

I encountered this problem too. As a 'solution', I turned auto-fill off, but that can't be the great idea of Apple. Also, the preferences window is in another spaces than the document I'm working in. That isn't a big problem, you can move the preferences window to a different space. I found that via the spaces overview (standard shortcut is F8, I think) you can move the autofill popup, just by dragging it. It disappears in the overview, but it's there when you go back to your original window.

  • Can Numbers 08 autofill an alphanumeric sequence?

In Excel I'd enter a column with PEF01, the next column with PEF02, select the two cells and drag down to PEFxx as far as I needed for an alphanumeric sequence.
I can get the plain numeric sequence in Numbers 08, but if it can do alphanumeric, I'm missing the trick. The HELP offered nothing. I tried both Automatic and Number for Cell Format.
Any detail I'm overlooking? Or is this very fundamental feature just not available in '08? If not, does '09 do it? Seems too obvious an operation to omit.
    Thanks.
    Message was edited by: chuck50dc

Numbers '09 does do it, '08 doesn't. The only limitation I found was that the "0" was dropped with 3-9. I suggest you download the iWork '09 trial & try it for yourself for 30 days. Who knows, by then the next version might be out.

  • How to turn on autofill that is in Numbers '09? I seriously need to autofill function where you type now letter it will then find the corresponding autofill.. I need help thanks

    Thanks for your help !!!

    Lee,
This feature is not included in Numbers 3.0.  You may contact Apple to provide your opinion by using the menu item "Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback".

  • Numbers autofill?

Earlier versions of Numbers would auto-fill (start to eneter a word and it would be completed). 3.0 won't auto-fill.  Is there a way to turn this fuction on again?

Apple will reintroduce "auto-complete text in cells" sometime in the next few months.  But even after it is brought back you might want to consider formatting the cells in the column as Pop-Up Menu if you frequently enter repeating values in a column and don't want to type the same text over and over again.
In many situations, particularly if you want to avoid typos creeping in and messing up your data, Pop-Up Menu has clear advantages over "autocomplete." It is much enhanced over what it was in Numbers 2.3, and is easy to set up:
Select the whole column or range before formatting as Pop-Up Menu and your existing values in that column or range will pre-populate a menu automatically:
Then you can remove the values you don't want in the list, such as the column header (and possibly some previous spelling errors too!):
And after this easy one-time setup all you have to do thereafter is to choose from the pop-up list when you add rows:
See this post for more details on how this handy feature has been enhanced in Numbers 3.0.
In Numbers 3.0 there is no keyboard shortcut to activate the menu such as hitting the spacebar in the old Numbers (hope they'll add one in upcoming versions) but the Pop-Up Menu approach, unlike auto-complete, eliminates spelling inconsistencies or lack of capitalization when there should be capitalization, etc.
And should you ever want to take your Numbers with you and do data entry on an iPad or iPhone, in a touch interface pop-ups are much more efficient than typing the first few letters of items. You can scroll with ease through a list of dozens of items to make a pick.
See this thread for this and other workarounds for Numbers 3.0.

  • Workarounds in Numbers 3.0?

    Dear Fellow Numbers 3.0 Users,
In Numbers 3.0, some features have been lost that were in Numbers 2.3. However,  I have seen some creative ideas in this forum for ways to work around the loss of features yet maintaining the functionality.
    Example 1:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message/23612026?ac_cid=tw123456#23612026
In the new Numbers, where did autofill drop down menus go and how do I get them back? See the replies from SGIII and Smirhcfa
Autofill has gone. Workaround: enter your most used values into a column. Select  all body cells in that Column and change the Cell format to pop-up. The pop-up will now contain choices for filling in other Rows.
Another workaround could be to use a lookup table of frequently used entries (each with a unique first character). Type the first character of an entry in one Column. The next Column fills in the full entry from a lookup table. After all, is this not how Autofill works?
    Example 2:
Numbers 3.0 does not show dates in a Chart. Workaround: convert the dates to a Duration (day or week from the starting time) or even a number to represent time elapsed.
Some workarounds may seem to be clunky, but in Numbers 2 we also need workarounds!
Please keep this thread positive. By now, I think we have heard enough about features and functionality that seem to be lost.
    Workarounds, anyone?
    Regards,
    Ian.

    Hi SG,
Thanks for your help in this workaround thread, and the "What has been GAINED in the Numbers 3.0 upgrade?" thread and the many ways you have shown leadership in keeping us all level-headed in this transition to Numbers 3. This broad workaround thread can never have a single "This solved my question" reply (sic, should read "This solved my problem").
You deserve the green tick from this thread. Bravo!
    New
    Thanks Kev50 and Al Gunther.
Both of your workarounds for the loss of Print View and Show Layout  are added to the top of the following updated list.
In some language settings, month names (intended to be simply that, names of months) are converted to dates. Workaround: in this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5484435?start=0&tstart=0 the consensus from users seems to be that date recognition in Numbers 3.0 is a bit too clever. Force the month names to Text Format by typing a single quote (apostrophe, ') before each date name. Or, type a space after each date name.
I can't change the name of an axis in a chart. Workaround: click on the chart to select it, then in Format Inspector > Axis > X or Y > Axis Options > put a tick in Axis Name. From Numbers 3.0 Help: "If you selected an Axis Name checkbox, Numbers adds a placeholder axis name to the chart. To change it, triple-click the name on the chart, then type your own." [I am not sure if this a workaround or a GAIN in Numbers 3.]
From SG: Insert Date menu pick is gone in Numbers 3.0. Workaround: create an Automator Service that retrieves the date and time from the system clock and pastes it into the selected cell in Numbers.  This service can be accessed via Numbers>Services in the menu or can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut.  For details see this thread. Thanks to alexhax and slypix for refinements.
(You may need to remove 'Day of the week' from your "Full" date format in System Preferences>Language & Region for it to give you the desired result.)
    Updated list:
Show Print View and Show Layout have gone (update). Workaround hints:
Work out where the pages are in print preview and then draw a line on the side of your Sheet. That line will hold it's position if you make changes to your row heights or add photos etc. It will add pages to your overall sheet, but then just select the page range to print.
Save a modified Numbers file to Numbers '09, make any required print view adjustments there and save. Then open in Numbers 3.0 and see if it prints okay.  You may find that one line spills over to the second page; deleting one blank line may make a second try perfect.  Perhaps the top or bottom margins are smaller than the default size in 3.0.
Menu > View >Show Rulers. Drag Alignment Guides from a ruler to where you want them.  Caution: the rulers and/or Alignment Guides may not be accurate. Try Format Inspector > Arrange > Position (or Size) to see if that works better for you.
Menu > Numbers > Preferences > Rulers > Alignment Guides. That allows you to align objects with *each other* (rather than with the ruler guides). These guides help to align objects left, middle, right, top, bottom.
Select multiple objects, then Format Inspector > Arrange > Align (or Distribute). Also under Menu > Arrange.
When duplicating an object (such as a nicely formatted Table that you want to reuse) select the Table, copy, and before you paste, click on the canvas below or beside. Pasted Table will automatically be aligned with the original.
Menu > File > Print to see the Print Preview. Use the Content Scale slider.
Also, see where you can delete blank rows or columns, or make columns narrower, or drag objects to reduce white space. Not as easy as editing in Print View in Numbers 2, but you are still responsible for (and in charge of) the final look!
In some language settings, month names (intended to be simply that, names of months) are converted to dates. Workaround: Force the month names to Text Format by typing a single quote (apostrophe, ') before each date name.
Insert Date menu pick is gone in Numbers 3.0. Workaround: create an Automator Service that retrieves the date and time from the system clock and pastes it into the selected cell in Numbers.  This service can be accessed via Numbers>Services in the menu or can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut.  For details see this thread.
Custom Formats no longer available. Workaround: Create a Custom Format in a Numbers 2 document. Save. Then Save As… a copy with a new name so Numbers 3 can't snaffle your original Numbers 2 document. Open the copy in Numbers 3 and the Custom formats will be listed in Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format. The Custom Formats are carried over and they work. Note: copying a custom formatted Cell or Table in Numbers 2, then pasting into Numbers 3 does not work. The Custom cell(s) are pasted as text.
I can't add a shadow to a Table. Workaround: insert a rectangle Shape, Arrange > Send To Back, slide it behind the Table. Use the Alignment Guides to drag and resize the rectangle. Numbers > Preferences > Rulers > Alignment Guides. Turn them on.
Sorting by multiple Columns has gone. Workaround: Add another Column (e.g. D) =A&B&C (or your preferred sort order for Columns). Sort by Column D.
No way to set margins. Workaround: Print the document as PDF. Open the PDF in Preview and use the Cropping Tool to crop out the white space.
Reorganize panel has gone. How do I Sort selected rows? Workaround: copy those rows to a new table, sort, then copy and paste back.
Autocomplete has gone. After all, is this not how Autocomplete works?
Numbers 3.0 does not show dates in a Scatter Chart. Workaround: convert the dates to a Duration (day or week from the starting time) or even a number to represent time elapsed. The DATEDIF function will help to calculate days (or months or whatever) from the starting date.

    Ian.

  • Since installing Snow Leopard safari autofill won't work

I have checked the safari autofill preferences and have the top box and bottom box checked (not the middle passwords).
This used to work well as soon as I would enter one letter in a form it would complete it.  Now I must type in everything even in websites I have visited often and recently.
I had the "word won't print or save as" problem but installing the new 1.1 security update fixed that but not this autofill problem.
    What can I do now?

Thanks for the link, but it still doesn't work for me.  It fills in some of the information but refuses to do postcodes & countries and telephone numbers are a bit random.  It still doesn't do email addresses on many sites - even sites I visit every day.  The only thing it gets correct consistently is the first line of my postal address.  I tried deleting the contact, creating a new one and making it me - but it still does exactly the same thing.
I finally gave up and ran Chrome.  Oh the joy of coming back to a site I visited only yesterday and have all the data I entered available at the click of a mouse;  instead of taking minutes to book airport parking it takes seconds!  It's like browsers used to be (and, incidentally, much faster than Safari and correctly renders all the sites I visit).   It's so frustrating that Apple can't make something work that other browsers have been doing for decades.
