Hi,
I have a multiple detail block ( No. of record displayed 10 ) ,all i need to do is change the
height of the item according to the length of the text stored in it.
(set_item_instance_property) not working

For multi-records pls try...
SET_ITEM_PROPERTY Built-in
This will effects all rows but, set_item_instance_property in only for single row.

How to load the object library at run time from within the script.

What i am trying to do from my library is that I wanted to load the object library file (.properties) file at run time through the script. I know that open script has a deprecated method "ft.loadObjectLibrary". Is there any other method other than the deprecated one?. Also is there a way that I can unload the library?

F4 on Variable Screen for a DataStore Object Produces Long Run Time

We experiencing a long run time in returning values when we select F4 for the Variable 0COMP_CODE when we process query for a DataStore. Before our upgrade to NW04S, we did not experience this issue. As background, the DataStore (ODS) has not changed, the variable has not changed, and the query has not changed.
0COMP_CODE has the following configuration in RSD1:
Query Def. Filter Value Selection Values in Master Data Table
Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn Only Posted Values for Navigation.
These settings are exactly like this in our BW 3.5 system.
In my review of the differences, I found that in BW 3.5, the runtime is short because the selection that is returned is the Company Codes in the Master Data table, but in NW04S, the selection that is returned is the Company Codes within the ODS.
Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was your resolution?

Query Execution Filter Val. Selection should help you a lot in improving performance for F4.
Three options are available for the Query Execution Filter Val. Selection field on the BEx tab that directly affect F4 searches.
The Only Posted Values for Navigation setting limits an F4 search to the values related to the querys navigation state. It is the recommended setting if youre working with less savvy BW end users who may have trouble identifying applicable values or are confused when faced with long lists of characteristics. This setting yields the slowest performance in terms of the F4 search.
Only Values in InfoProvider is a better option if you need a list of characteristic values for a variable that is limited to the transactional records in the InfoProvider that a query is being executed against. This setting is ideal for restricting users to the appropriate source when data is available in different InfoProviders with different values. For example, lets say you have an InfoCube with billing data for Europe and another for the US. Each sales office will have different values, so by using this setting a variable can be restricted to the correct values.
The Values in Master Data Table setting allows users to list all possible characteristic values when they run F4. Recommend that you use it when you have transactional records for almost all the values across InfoProviders and users are aware of the relevance of the values for the navigation state.
While the Values in Master Data Table setting is the fastest F4 search setting, you need to be aware of a couple of situations when using it. Users with authorization restrictions may have an F4 list returned with all the values from the master data table, but a subsequent query may not report the result. Instead it will generate an error message informing the user of the authorization restriction. Likewise, users may select values from the master data table that are not valid for the current query due to other restrictions. There may not be any records for an InfoObject in its underlying InfoProvider designed for a query, so the system returns a no applicable data found message.

How to specify a different directory for the Run-Time Engine?

With LV 7.1 it's become even more difficult to create installation sets in third-party tools without having to include the full run-time engine separately.
If you use any of the advanced analysis VIs you have to install the run-time engine (no use in including files in the same directory as the built application) and if you do and you use the old serial VIs you get a problem because the application will load the run-time from the main run-time installation and then look for serpdrv in that directory, not in the application folder...
So - being forced to use the installer builder in the application builder and include the run-time engine in the installation kit I wonder whether it is possible to specify where the run-time should be installed?
By default it will go in a directory called National Instruments in the program files folder, however that is not ideal due to the fact that the users have no relation to the fact that our application needs something from NI...and may end up deleting the directory ("National Instruments? - what do I need that for...let me delete it...). We would like to be able to specify that the run-time is installed silently in a directory named with our company name instead.

When you create the stand alone, in options you can actually set the temp directory and default directory. You can change it there OR in goto options and check for libraries/directories. You can change it there too.

Manipulating live objects in the Run Time system

A Graphic User interface exists that has GUI components say JButtons. This program cannot be edited.
If the container ( say a GUI panel , where this JButton resides ) of this GUI is obtained then the components in this container can be obtained using Components.getComponents () method. Also the listeners that are added to this components cane be obtained by the method Component.getListeners () for each of the GUI component.
Now ,when the original GUI program is run and a user clicks a JButton can the listener so obtained from the getListeners () method understand when this object has been invoked.

You don't have to use getListeners for this... but instead add your own listener on the button.

The memory which can be managed by the logical database is approx.
100 MB. You can use the following rule of thumb to calculate the
allocated memory of your selection:
[( sum of projectdefinitions + sum of WBS elements + sum of networks and orders ) * 1 KB + ( sum of activities     ) * 4 KB ] *2,5 = memory consumption
Further objects - as relationships, capacities, ... will increase
the memory consumption. (see note 107605)
You can find out the number of objects bein used using the "Test selection scope" (CTRL+F12) button in CN41
Other recommendations are:
1) Check the profile (parameter "rdisp/PG_MAXFS") with your Basis
   colleague and adjust upwards (Note 133909)
2) Select a smaller range of objects by using status schema
   or more dynamic selections. Please review SAP Note 206264.
3) Please review also 107605, which gives you further information
   concerning the selection in Project Information System.

_Choosing operation in Business Service on run time

Hi,
I have a WSDL having multiple operations. The same wsdl is usd to create business and proxy service.
In proxy service I am using operational branching.So for each operation , I need to call business service with respective operation.
Is there any way to choose the operation in business service on run time using single route node.Is it possible through Dynamic Routing?
I have used dyanmic routing to choose different business service at run time.
Please let me know if some other information is required.

The following code can be used inside the expresion for Dynamic routing to achieve the same-

The vairable operation keeps the name of the operation invoked.

AutosizeHeight and run-time value

I know this has been asked many times before, but my Google-fu has failed me.
PowerBuilder 12.5.2 classic mode, running on Win7 64 bit.
I have an autosize height column in a datawindow, and I want to know how tall it has become after I set a value to it (to account for word/line wrapping, etc.). There is only one row in the datawindow at a time.
I have tried dw.Describe(ColumnName + ".Height"), and I get the design-time value.
Tried dw.Describe("Evaluate('" + ColumnName + ".Height', 1)"), get an invalid expression error.
Used RowHeight(), but it seems to increment sporadically (every 5-12 lines).
Even put an invisible line under the column with SlideUp, and looked at the Y1 value, but again only get the design time value.

Aha.
The RowHeight() expression was the trick, BUT
I have several autosize columns stacked below the one I'm interested in. They were uninitialized (null actually), and had zero(!) height at run-time. It seems that the row autosize "reserved" enough room for the design-time height, and once a column took up all the phantom allotted space, then the row would resize. Took off autosize on the other columns, and hey presto.
I am now a bit more bald, but good golly the dang thing works.

but my problem is I have written one renderer for increase the row height at run time behalf of data.. And we are supposed to guess what you are doing from your original question?
I changed the code in my actionPerformed() method as follows:
table.setRowHeight(0, table.getRowHeight(0) + 10);
System.out.println(table.getPreferredSize());
The preferred size still changes.
I have no idea what your problem is or why you even care what the table preferred size is. You just add the table to a scroll pane and scroll bars will appear when required.

Using XML-based object structures to represent data in code/at run-time

I have quite a "high level" question which has be bothering me for some time, and I haven't found the subject tackled in any books. I believe J2SE/J2EE is not an important divide here.
Lets say I want to develop a J2SE game application with two programs: a "level designer", and a "level viewer", and I want to store the level files in an XML format.
My question, and I use this example only to try and illustrate it, is:
when coding the level designer or viewer, is it reasonable to use an XML-based object hierarchy for representing a level in code/at run-time, i.e. using the standard Java DOM APIs? Or should one (as I would have done before XML came along) develop a set of classes much closer to modelling the real form of a level, and then add a means to convert those objects to/from to XML format?
This second option of course I would use/would have used if I wasn't thinking about XML, but isn't it sometimes easier to just read in an XML file into a DOM representation and just use the data straight out of that structure, rather than go through the bother of parsing the XML into a set of unrelated objects defined by a different family of classes? What shapes your decision here? And if the second option is best, what is the easiest way of converting to/from the XML?

Can I ask: what about if your domain was quite 'close' to an object/DOM representation of XML?
For instance, what if a game operated by acting out a theatrical script, a spoken conversation, between two characters, perhaps somehow influenced at points by the user, and a particular level was just a different script for the characters.
One could imagine that the object representation of this would in the end be quite similar to how you'd represent XML, i.e. like a tree of nodes, where each node was a line from the script, and some nodes were a decision point where different nodes could be chosen from.
Would you still want to avoid using XML-based classes to represent the underlying 'game', or is there a point where you would 'give it' to the similarity and use existing XML structures directly?

Loading an "MXML Component" at run-time creates a null object.

I have a simple Flex 3 project with an MXML application file (the parent) and an MXML component file (the child).
At run-time I create childs of this component, and I add it to the stage using a simple "this.addChild()" call.
Now, besides that, in the creation loop, after every
newChild = new mcComp();
I want to setup a few more custom parameters which belongs to this class. For example, now I want to set a label's text, this label is at the child.
The issue is that the label isn't created until I exit the creation function, and actually, until my code returns control to the Flash Player.
See my problem here?
With custom classes which resides at .AS files, when I instantiate them with the "new" operator, they run their constructure's code and eveything is fine.
But, when I do the same with those MXML components (which by the way are based over the Canvas class), their constructure do not execute and actually no other child of them is created.
Can anyone please advise? I must be missing some keyword here.. hopefully.

The issue is that the creationComplete event doesn't dispatch even when I addChild() the object.

for(var i:int; i < 3; i++)
 child = new mcChild();
 // setting some properties, labels' text etc'
 this.addChild(child);
Try this and you'll see - the event doesn't dispatch until you got out of the code flow.
Anyway after looking at Flex's documentation I solved it differently;
After the addChild() call the child receives an "initialize" event. After that I could modify my label.
