I need to pull information from fields based on the contents of another field. For example, I want to use the SBCODE.SCDDS2 field in one location in the report, but it will only return the correct information if SBCODE.SCDTYP field = "PR". In another location on the report I want to use the SBCODE.SCDTNM field, but it will only return the correct information if the SBCODE.SCDTYP field = "TE". Is there a formula I can use to accomplish this?

Thank You for your input, I just returned from vacation and saw your solution, unfortunately I had already tried that formula and although it does return the correct Problem Codes it also returnes 'WD" (work done) codes with the same numbers. So I end up with a report that has 2 or 3 of the same ticket numbers but different Problem Descriptions (because the formula returns WD codes as well). For some reason this formula does not limit itself to just the "PR" code.

I have one DSO which is holding data for fields WBS(Old) and Company Code(Old).
and I have one table which holds the information for Ols WBS and Ols Comp Code along with their New WBS and New Comp code.
for eg:
In DSO :
Old WBS , Old Comp.Code

In Table:
Old WBS , Old Comp.Code , New WBS , New Comp.Code

Now my requirement is ,
search record by record from DSO and look into the table .
If abc record in DSO matches with abc record in table, then in DSO it should replace with new WBS and Com.Codes.
after the code, data in DSO shuld be lik this.

ABC , 001-04
XYZ,   002-04.

If these fields are key fields dont think its possible to overwrite. Else plz write the following Code in End Routine it will overwrite the existing values in DSO.
Select * from DSO into it_dso_temp. "U can even select only key fields WBS and CC fields.
If sy_subrc=0.
Sort it_dso_temp by WBS CC.
endif.
Select old WBS
           old CC
           new WBS
           new CC
from Table
into it_table
for all entries in it_dso_temp

Select a number of fields between one field and another

Hello,
Is there any way to make a SELECT to show a number of fields between one field and another,
without writting all the fields one by one ?
For example, I have one table with these fields:
TABLE EMPLOYEE:
ID_EMPLOYEE NAME PHONE CAR AGE MARRIED
and I just want to make a SELECT who shows only fields from NAME to AGE, but i don't want to
write in the SELECT all the fields one by one.
Is this possible?

Sorry for my english it's not very good.If you use the DBMS_SQL package to execute your query you can reference the columns by position rather than name.
One examples of using DBMS_SQL package:

How to replace one variable with another in large number of queries

Hello guys!
I have this situation: our company needs to use one variable instead of another for certain amount of queries.
Is there some way to automatically replace one variable with another for a certain characteristic in big number of queries ( like 150 - 200 ) ? Doing this manually would take lots of time)

you could try (at your own risk) the following:
1. search the technical id (ELTUID) of your variable in table RSZELTDIR
2. see where this variable is used in table RSZELTXREF (by filling RSZELTDIR-ELTUIID in RSZELTXREF-TELTUID)
3. add similar entries for your new variable
4. delete the entries for the old variable (they're part of the key, so you can't simply "change" them)

When I merge one project with another, Aperture for some strange reason, randomly scrambles the photos from the project being merged, instead of keeping them in the order they were shot. What can I do to fix this?

The photos have just been dumped into a new home and need to be told how to be arranged. Go to the top left of the browser view for the merged project and select the desired sort order from the drop-down and they'll all sort according to that setting.

I Need to assamble 7 fields from a view, into one field with some line brakes in Reports, how do I do that???
E.g :
Field names : Name, Collection1, StreetName, StreetNo, ExtraCity, ZipCode, City
Should be put into one field called address and be displayed like this

While editing one field disabling another field

I'm on JDEV 10.1.3.2.0 and JHS 10.1.3.1.26.
I have a question about filling in a field on a screen.
Is it possible when a user inserts text in one field that you disable another field dynamically so that the user cannot access this other field anymore ?

Marcel,
You may want to ask on the JHS forum, but it's certainly possible without JHS. Just set autosubmit=true on the first field (and set its ID property too), set the partialTriggers property on the second field to the ID of the first field, and set the disabled property of the second field to something apropriate.
You could also do this with autosubmit=true on the first field and use a valuechangelistener to write some code in a backing bean to disable the second field.
Both approaches work.

Universally replace one character with another and then change font

Hello,
I have a geologic map file where there are hundreds of labels like Cc, Cz, Cwu, etc... all in the Arial font. I need to change all of the capital C's with a character from the StratagemAge font. That is to say, I need to find all instances of one character in my file and then replace them with another character and then change the font of that selected character.
I've been trying to figure out how to write an action to do this, but I was wondering if there is a way to do this easily already.
Any suggestions?

Yes, you would have to click each time to run the Action (or, you could assign a function key), but there would be no dialog to dismiss.
But you can pile several iterations of the same steps in the Action; so that one execution of the Action does ten replacements with one click, for example.
This would not be a particularly difficult thing to Javascript, but you are correct that scripting has a learning curve. This task is not something I would think often needed. Doing a few hundred replacements in a file, using an Action would not seem overly burdensome to me. But if it is a recurring need for you, it might be worth writing a script.

to subtract one cell from another you enter a formula in a cell by:
1) click the cell where you want the result to be
2) click the cell that contains on of the operands
3) type the minus sign ("-")
4) click the other cell with the other operand
e.g. if cell A1 contains 5, cell B1, contains 2 and you want the difference of those two cells to be in cell C1....
you would click cell C1 and then type: "=A1-B1" then type the enter key OR
click cell C1 and then type "=", then click cell A1, then type "-", then click cell B1, then type the "enter" key

How to communicating one application with another?

I wanted to make a web site that have the ability to view,update,insert and delete record in a database. How to do that? How can one application communicate with another? example, I wanted to have XHTML communicate with Java and Java to communicate with my database that is pointbase database.

Multi-tier application communication is a somewhat complex matter. It may be made using differents techniques and designs. But like Sum-shusSue said, a typical Java-based solution would use these Java technologies: JSP (Java Server Page) for the presentation side (the client), Servlet or EJB (Enterprise Java Bean) for the server-side logic. The communication with the Database is made through JDBC.
I suggest that you take a look at the J2EE edition of Java. That stands for Java 2 Enterprise Edition and it is specifically made for enterprise system development, such as Servlet, JSP, EJB, etc...
This is a whole lot of new subjects and, from my humble experience, it is not that easy. i.e. I would not recommend it for strict newbies. However, if you have some months of Java coding on your side, maybe you should take a look. You can check first the left menu of this site, you'll find, under Technologies the sub-menu J2EE. There's also, somewhere on the site, tutorials on differents J2EE topics. Finally, I would recommend you this book:
Professional Java Server Programming, J2EE 1.3 Edition, edited by Wrox. Of course, there a lot of other books on hte market. J2EE is a hot topic!

Stepping through a query result set, replacing one string with another.

I want to write a function that replaces the occurance of a string with another different string. I need it to be a CF fuction that is callable from another CF function. I want to "hand" this function an SQL statement (a string) like this:   (Please note, don't bother commenting that "there are eaiser ways to write this SQL..., I've made this simple example to get to the point where I need help. I have to use a "sub_optimal" SQL syntax just to demonstrate the situation)
Here is the string I want to pass to the function:

No you do not need to create a local variable that is a copy of the arguments variable as the arguments scope is already local to the function, but you do not properly reference the arguments scope, so you leave yourself open to using a 'txt' variable in another scope. Thus the better practice would be to reference "arguments.txt" where you need to.

Adobe Bridge CC : metadata copy from one field to another for multiple files

So I am using Bridge CC for managing audio files and have many many MP3's that I need to copy or move one field of metadata to another.
ie: copy "Audio Artist" field to "IPTC Core Creator" Field
move "IPTC Core Description" to "Video Log Comment" field
Is there a script I can add that will let me select multiple files, and have it copy or move all the info from one of these fields to another?

The form where this happens contains an email field as well as a password field, so it does have both of the fields that are on the login page. It is used to modify the details of the user of our site and is accessed by the administrators, not the users themselves. To auto fill the fax field (which is named _fax) with my email address is very strange. If I log in as a different admin user then the email address I use to login appears in the field. The password field is also appears on the form and is being populated, presumably with my password. How can Firefox get it wrong and put an entry in a field with a different name, and why that field and not other empty fields on the form?

First be sure login and password are OK. Sometimes the address starts wit "http://..." and sometime starts with "ftp://...". Try both normal FTP access and Scure FTP access (SFTP). At the end, contact the site's provider.

How to copy value from one field to another in a Apex Form

Hello guys,
There are 2 addresses one is shipping and other is billing. I do not want the customer to re-enter all the details if it is the same address. So based upon an action, it should take the live values from one address field and populate the other address field. I know in JS you can do it, but how to implement that in Apex?
I guess using Dynamic Actions to achieve this in Version 4 but do not know how. Read quite some info but no luck.

I have assumed that you have your shipping address at the top of the page, and then further down the page you have your billing address that you want to enable the users to copy (if this is in reverese, you will need to switch the js variables in the code following).
I would create a Select List item above the 'Billing Address' details, called PX_SAME_ADDRESSThis select list would be static, with the options Null.
I also assume you would have pairs of address page items such as:

PX_SHIPPING_ADDRESS_L2

How can I have text from multiple fields on one layer, copy to one field on another layer?

A little help please as it's been years since I've done any coding of any sort.
So I have a 4 page document with various field types. I have a document script that gets "TodaysDate" that works perfectly and a few other scripts as well.
So what I'm trying to do is find a work around for the following:
I have 3 fields - SURNAME, FIRSTNAME & dob.
And I want what is typed into these fields to populate into 1 field. And according to this tutorial (http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript) it's not exactly possible. At least I think that's what it says.
However I'm hoping that maybe I could have a Submit button at the end of that document that when clicked would copy the text from those 3 fields (that I would have on 1 layer) into 1 field on a 2nd layer. Is that even possible??
I'd also like to have the document Print, Save (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the file name), Email (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the subject line) and Export to a specific Excel spreadsheet.
I don't want much do I?
I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows PC but also have access to Acrobat 8 Professional. And I'm going to want the form to run in Acrobat Reader X.
So far I have for the 3 fields into 1 on another layer:

Sorry Gilad. I hope I'm not getting on your nerves (too much) but as I said it's been a while since I did any formal code. And I'm trying to do this code for a work document but I'm doing it in amongst so many other things I do for my job that it's difficult to get the time to concentrate for longer than 5 mins.
I didn't get a chance to try that code until just now. I guess I asked again as I thought (from what I'd read) that it wouldn't be that simple.
So I've added that code and I get no errors. But it doesn't appear to be doing anything either. I've added the code like this in the Custom calculation script of a separate field I've called FileName. And on the Button i'm using I've added: buttonClick()
