Does anyone here know how to contact the site moderator/administrator/developer? I can't find it in the FAQ and the contact links are either really general or require a login other than the one that gets me here.

Thanks a lot for the reply, it's good to see that even the not-so-polite rant postings are taken serious and get attention. I think that most of us truly appreciate the platform SAP is providing, but we're a bit tired with some of the application features/limitations. So I hope nobody takes offense when we're venting a bit...

I neither understand the more input (for what and by whom) nor the here (this thread or this forum). The missing functionality for dealing with unanswered questions seems obvious enough. At least that should be one topic that everybody agrees on. I suspect that the same applies to the rather poor search capabilities. Though as we can see in the forums, lots of people apparently seem to prefer to quickly shoot some questions instead of wasting their time with any research...
Continue to convince us please.
Is that a polite way of saying keep on whining? If yes, then no problem, I think we all need to do that from time to time...
If the feedback from the community is truly important, I'd say that there should be a public system for posting bugs/feature requests on which people could vote. This should be prominently placed in the forums and would allow easier feedback. The voting feature could be used to possibly limit the bugs/requested features to look at (e.g. top ten list) and then be classified by SAP based on implementation effort (with the usual disclaimer that no feature might ever be implemented just because it's wanted). Needless to say that it should be easy to search for already existing requests, but in general I'd assume that fairly soon there would be more voting (on top requests) than posting new ones...
To channel requests and avoid too many silly postings in this bug/feature tool one could imagine using earned forum points possibly as a currency for putting a value to the requests (i.e. I could vote to say if feature A gets implemented I'd pay it with N forum points, which are deducted from my account once the feature is present). I'm not sure if that is a good idea, but at least it might ensure that people who truly care about the platform enter their comments. At least it seems that often systems, which implement some artificial monetary system and try to optimize on cost, yield very good results...

Improvement Suggestion: Add Animation to Movie Clips in Repositories

Hi there,
I have been trying to post this improvement suggestion by filling-in the corresponding form but it didn't allow me enough characters to describe it correctly. So I am posting it here now and going to reference it in the Improvement Suggestion form...
Currently it's hard to perform a good edit because Adobe Premiere Pro doesn't provide a clip basket showing all available clips running, allowing the user to preview and choose from different takes of the same scene.
I'd like to suggest to animate all movie clips in all repositories, like Media Browser and Project panels, in order to create kind of an animated lightbox.
These clips should be run without audio, in low resolution and, optionally, at a lower framerate, depending on the machine's capabilities and user's preferences.
Clicking (and thereby activating) one of those movie clips should ...
magnify that clip,
enable audio for that clip,
display a timeline,
and display an in-point and an out-point marker.
Using these markers, the user shall be able to limit the preview loop of the clip in that particular repository (e.g. to repetitively monitor only a small scene of the movie clip).

After carrying this thought with me around for a while I'd like to add an update to my original suggestion:
When comparing different takes (= clips) of the same recorded live scenes, the usual editing process while working with Premiere Pro would be to drill down on the take that's supposed to be inserted into the sequence. So if there were 8 takes of the same scene, first there would be 8 clips to compare, then 7, 6, 5, 4... until the final clip is found.
In the course of the comparison process it would be very helpful to be able to "switch off" those takes that have been decided not to be used. So I'd like to update my suggestion to provide the following additional features:
Each preview clip should provide a play/pause feature. So playback shall be switched on and off individually for each of the preview clips.
As mentioned in my original suggestion, when activated (zoomed), the preview should provide buttons for manipulating that clip preview's playback. Originally I suggested a Play Audio button (with a speaker symbol).
I now, additionally, suggest to add a Play/Pause button to an activated (zoomed) clip preview. If playback is active, that button should display a Pause icon. If playback is paused, the same button should display a Play icon.
Given that, an active preview would be displayed something like this:
After a clip has been selected for an insert, the next editing step would be to search a clip from the repository for the next insertion into the sequence. So all tracks would be back in the game.
So there should be a new menu item, resuming playback of all preview clips in the repository: "Edit > Preview > Play all clips".
If the user wants to concentrate on the Program Montitor video, he/she should be able to pause all preview clips. So I suggest the should be a new menu item complementing the previous one: "Edit > Preview > Pause all clips".
Some people might prefer not to see any animation in the repositories at all. For them there should be a new option available in Premiere Preferences to pause all preview clips by default (this setting would equal to the current behaviour).
The user might want to concentrate on a single preview clip and just want to have this single clip being played back when activated (zoomed).
So I suggest there should also be a Solo option available.
By holding the [CTRL] key down while clicking the Play/Pause button suggested in provision #1, all preview clips should be paused and the currently active (zoomed) preview clip should be played back alone.
In my suggestion I have been focussing on using Premiere Pro with the mouse. But there should be keyboard shortcuts available for all these actions, too.

Suggestion for forum improvement

Recently, when I tried to execute some code at home which I had posted in this forum at work I noticed that it did not work and trying to find out, what happened I saw that two code lines like

field3||', '||field4||'('||field5||')',were shortened to a single line
field1||' < ', '||field4||'('||field5||')',and some days later I had an example where several line of code disappeared after a < sign and I noticed that also other user of the forum posted code that was somehow "broken" because they used characters like < and >. I think this happens because the forum software tries to find html tags in the code, but in my opinion this it not always a good idea. If I copy and paste some code from my "real world" here, it is annoying to check, whether there occurs a problem because of the html interpretation of some characters in this code.
A possible solution for this could be, that there is a setting in the user profile like "I want to use html tags in my postings" and in my opinion this should be switched off as a default for new users of the forum. And if this setting is not checked any code in a posting will be shown exactly as it was pasted into the box.
What do you think about my idea?

I don't know what was disabled in the past but I still can use things like red here in the forum and that's what I mean.
And maybe you misunderstood my intention. I don't want more html as there is today. I want less, at least for unexperienced users. If users want they can switch it on immediately but than they should know what they do and be aware of the side effects.
I personally would prefer to keep html off totally. I don't need the possibility to use red code but I would like to copy and paste my SQL and PLS/SQL code without checking if there are any characters in my code which get interpreted as html code and destroy the functionality of the code.

Suggestion for New Forum Improvement/Upgrade

To the PTB:
Would it be possible under the "my posts" section to change the little blue bubbles that indicate,
"New content since your last visit"
and "Updated content since your last visit"
to different colors? Make each one an obvious separate color one Red and one Blue, or Red and Green, etc...
My eyes are good, but not good enough to discern a full bubble from a 1/2 bubble..

Please help...I have tried almost everything these forums have suggested!!

I have seen other people criticize post-ers for their lack of details, so here it goes:
(1) I was running the other day with my 4GB iPod Nano 1st Generation + Nike Sports Kit connected. Everything was going smoothly when suddenly the song I was listening to started to sound really choppy, a "stuttering" if you may. I started pressing the iPod Nano buttons, with no response. Note that I did NOT drop it at any point, and it was not wet etc.
(2) I went home, unplugged the Nike Sports Kit thingy, and then started the recovery process via iTunes 7.0.2 with all the latest patches. After it had finished recovering my iPod Nano, it went to the default next step of trying to sync it with iTunes. Now enters the dreaded "recovery loop" that everyone has been talking about. This happened to me about a dozen times.
(3) I took the forums advice and first attempted to reformat the iPod Nano via Windows XP Pro. To my dismay, Windows showed that the device was connected to My Computer, but it did not let me explore the contents of it, nor did it let me format it or even access any part of it. All my efforts at reformatting it (I even tried via the DOS command prompt) met with the message "device cannot be formatted." Since Windows XP Pro cannot even let me access the iPod Nano in any fashion, it is also impossible for me to change the drive letter (which others have suggested, and I have tried).
(4) Lastly, I tried the "create new user ID in Windows XP Pro, reinstall iTunes, etc" AND I even tried using another computer! After doing this and attempting to recover, the recovery loop occurred again, but also had the pop-up message of "...iPod Nano may be corrupt, try recovery/replugging device in blah blah..."
Any suggestions? I am willing to try anything.
I apologize for the long post, but I am particularly angry since my 1 year warranty ended 2 WEEKS AGO. Steve Jobs is a brilliant man indeed...

Looks as though you've tried most everything -- but I don't see mention of you connection directly to the modem to test the connection with the router out of the loop - and don't see where you "reset" the router after the firmware upgrade
You might want to 'start from scratch' and throw a "reset to factory default settings" into the procedure
Re-flash/re-install the most current firmware version and then reset the router by holding the reset button in for at least 30 seconds - disconnect the modem and connect a PC via a hard wire in the #4 port of your router -- then reconfigure all settings re-connect the modem to the router and do a power cycle of all devices (in the correct order) -- and you might as well re-create the network connection in your PC(s) being sure all settings match the settings you configured in the router
And then cross your fingers -- and check back if further help is needed -- supply as much detail as to exactly what you have tried, ie.. OS, type of broadband connection etc...

IWeb Improvement Suggestions

Thought I'd post this here to see what everyone else thinks. I originally sent the email to the iWeb Feedback address. (BTW, I know that you can upload only updated pages to a third-party host, but, let's face it, it's a needlessly real pain in the neck.)

I've been using iWeb since about a week after it first came out in '06. I've been very happy with it -- despite some issues, some of which were fixed in the '08 version (like knowing when text is being converted into an image) -- and have stuck with it, despite investigating RapidWeaver and SandVox. Basically, I know the app pretty well by now but lately I've noticed a few things that are missing or could be improved.
a) You have got --simply got to -- allow people FTPing to outside hosts to publish only updated pages. This is the Number One complaint among experienced users, I think. I understand that you're trying to push people in the direction of .Mac hosting, but you're not persuading anyone (I have a .mac account, by the way). Your servers are way too slow to handle real websites and all you're doing is seriously irritating users. I came pretty close to switching to RapidWeaver SOLELY because of this pointless bit of aggravation. I saw a couple of other guys a few days ago on your forums writing that they had in fact gone to RapidWeaver for this reason and were dropping iWeb as a result. In short, in this respect, RapidWeaver (or any web-design app) beats the pants off you.
b) The Zoom facility needs major attention. When I'm working with iWeb I find myself leaning in to the screen to focus on one small part of the page. You need to integrate a magnifying tool of some sort. This would make things a lot easier for a lot of people.
c) Along the same lines, I'm hankering for a quick-and-easy "ruler." The blue guidelines you have are fantastic, but when I'm trying to line up things or measure exact distances between objects/text, I really need a ruler to judge pixel distance, etc. When I'm doing at the moment is drawing a line, moving it to the right spot, cutting it to length, and judging from there whether the distance between, say, two text boxes is appropriate. This is an unnecessarily onerous and time-consuming process -- and it's not even that accurate.
d) I'm a journalist and author, and I'd really appreciate some templates/themes that captured "writing" stuff: typewriters, pens, quills, paper, gold-embossed letters, and NEWSPAPER-TYPE COLUMNS.
e) You need clearer and more obvious instructions to help people learn about web-safe fonts. The flood of queries and comments in the Forums from people wanting to know why their website looks different in Explorer is neverending. The problem is that they blame iWeb, not Explorer, which is an admittedly atrocious browser. What I would really like is some ability to "see" the iWeb website in various browsers BEFORE I publish it to a folder or .mac. There must be some way of replicating a browser-shot within iWeb so that people's frustration would be immensely reduced at the outset. What's happening now is that I have to publish to a folder, upload it via CyberDuck to GoDaddy, then check out what the site looks like in PC Explorer and Firefox. If something small needs to be changed, I have to do it all over again -- and since you refuse to allow us to publish only altered pages, this whole process of changing one tiny thing can take up close to an hour. And my website's only about six pages long! I don't even want to think about what happens if you have 36 or 56 pages.
f) Please oh please oh please introduce expanding menus, accordions, and the like . . .
g) What is up with the inability to handle more than a single Site at a time and being unable to split them up before publishing? Thank goodness for the third-party developers who have come up with ways to get around this, but to tell you truth, they shouldn't need to. Fix this asap.
h) The Blog pages need work. I tried to start a blog for the website using iWeb and, though it looks OK, I've edging heavily towards only providing a link to WordPress or Blogger and keeping it there instead. Why? Because, I'm using the Darkroom template (which comes with Futura font) with Trebuchet (because Futura is not web-safe, thanks to Mr. Bill Gates, meaning that I have to change everything to an image). Now, on the Entries page, Trebuchet works fine, but on the landing Blog page, no matter how many times I change the font to Trebuchet and save, it always reverts to the Futura default as soon as I leave it in IWeb and come back -- which of course will lead to problems with Explorer. On top of that, if I have to update the blog, say, twice a day, your rule on publishing and uploading every single page again makes the whole blogging thing a real chore. I'd vastly prefer keeping the blog on my own website, but you're kind of forcing my hand.

ZEN MICRO: firmware improvements suggesti

Some suggestions and bug-signalations to improve firmware of Zen Micro. (actually I use fw .02.05): [*]play songs in a album not in alphabetical order, but using track number order, for me has more sense, do you? Because concept album, but all albums really, are betted listened in theway artist put their songs... I hope had been clear in my explanation.. Improvement suggestions

I've been working with the Hub for about two years now, gradually learning more about it and finding my way around its non intuitive corners. I've read all the documents and most of the threads in this forum. I find the experts are quite responsive
and that you take pride in your system, so I think you will consider these ideas, or perhaps you can suggest alternate ways to achieve what they are intended for.
I wish there were a way to put a comment field on uploaded files. Where did the uploader get this data? What are its weaknesses? What aspects of the language does it focus on? Who composed it? Is it formal or informal? Close translation or literary? What reading
level is it at? Does it contain archaic language? Profanity? Military jargon? There's only so much I can do with clever file names. The examples in the documentation use filenames like Doc0007, so presumably they are using some other kind of data tracking
system.
Likewise I would like to make more extensive notes on my trainings than can be contained in the name field. What were my inclusion/exclusion criteria? Independent of the BLEU score, did it do a better job of translating -meH clauses? Why did I do this?
What ideas does it give me for the next one? While I suppose I could upload unused documents numbers by the training systems, it would be nice to have a space in the HUB where I could comment on my progress.
When it comes to uploading, my process involves clicking through to the deployed system, translate documents tab, upload documents, upload them, then back to the documents tab to see if the alignment worked. It would be nice if you could upload a document
pair and see if there were any alignment problems immediately as part of the "successfully uploaded" dialogue box.

How do I make suggestions for improving the current Photo Elements 12 software?

ITunes improvement suggestion

I don't know if this is the proper venue for this sort of thing, but since Apple doesn't seem to want their customers emailing them, and thus hides all their email addresses (Post Purchase Customer Service: "We care how you feel about your product... if you have questions and concerns, let us know!!! <insert cheery happy mac-inspired happy smiley face thingy here>", but then doesn't provide a method of doing so... It's all good, though, I can't email Microsoft, either.). So, I'm putting it here, in case someone that makes decisions reads this thing.
I bought a song tonight, that I haven't heard in something like 25+ years. I didn't know the artist (still don't), so I previewed the long list of near misses in the search results and re-recordings. I found one clip, that was instrumental only, that sounded sort of scratchy, and I thought it was very easy to believe that I had found, THE version I wanted, recorded in the 70's by my reckoning. So I bought it. In any case, it's a little over three minutes of instrumental... no lyrics. Gar!!!
Here's the suggestion: it would rock if songs recorded by the original artist were somehow indicated on the search results list. It would also rock if there were another indicator to show the first release versions, and another to show whether or not the recording is an instrumental or lyrical. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't really give a crap about people hijacking other artist's songs when their own careers are in the dumps... if I'm looking for a song, 99% of the time, I mean I want the one recorded by the original artist, that played on the radio (ie. I hope I never have to hear Dolly Parton's version of Stairway). It should be easier to find those than it currently is.
I mean, at $.99, it's not a big loss that I don't get to hear the words to "In the year 2525" - I'll just buy it again. I'm actually more annoyed at what I had to go through to place my suggestion. An email would have sufficed, not because I'd expect an answer, but because I had a suggestion and just wanted to fire it off. I didn't want to have to go through all this multiple account creation crap just to be sitting here typing this, not knowing if the people that guide the development of iTunes and the Music Store are even going to see it.

Here's a link that should let you e-mail the store. Go to the section on download questions, then click on artists & albums, I believe. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page. iTMS support is by e-mail only. This is also a user to user forum only, so we would have no control over the content of the store.
