Forum participation

This isn't really a question, just an explaination. In the past I have been active in trying to answer questions for folks and help people get going with LabVIEW. However in the past week I have lost my job due to a reduction in force. I am looking for work but in the mean time my participation here wll probibly be spotty. Likewise, if any of you have been waiting for a response on an issue I was discussing with you, now you know why I haven't gotten back to you... sorry. You can send me an email directly at [email protected]

• Lenovo Community Participation Rules

Objectives of Lenovo Discussion Forums:
These communities have been created to provide a high quality atmosphere in which users of Lenovo products and services may share experiences and expertise. While members from Lenovo may participate at intervals to engage in the discussions and offer advice and suggestions, this forum is not designed as a dedicated and staffed support channel. This is an informal and public forum, and Lenovo does not guarantee the accuracy of information and advice posted here -- see important Warranty information below.
RULES OF CONDUCT -- YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Lenovo reserves the right to remove inappropriate language and postings, such as those examples listed below, from the discussion forums. In such instances, the user will be warned and may be banned from future participation
Prohibitions
No posts, forum IDs or email addresses shall contain profanity (implied or otherwise), or hate language targeting race / ethnicity, religion, gender, nationality, or political beliefs.
Post should avoid these topics. Posts violating these rules will be moderated, and the user warned. Repeat occurrences could result in banning.
No pornography, in the form of written words, expressions, posted images, or links to external material will be tolerated.
No personal threats will be tolerated against forum members, Lenovo employees, or company affiliates.
No personal attacks.
It is fair to state disagreement with facts or conclusions that another member has posted, but dissent must be expressed in an objective, and reasoned manner. Treat others with the respect you wish to receive. Remember that the community is here to share collective experiences and wisdom, with the goal of all members enjoying greater success with their Lenovo products. Consider whether your comments serve to advance the discussion in a positive direction.
No Trolling or deliberate disruption of discussion . Inflammatory post or thread titles are unacceptable and may be moderated.
Inflammatory, or unnecessarily argumentative postings will be considered trolling. Extended debate with moderators or admins over their decisions with regard to moderation of posts is considered trolling. Do not subvert threads. No vendetta posts, or online campaigning. It is acceptable to state concern for how a particular Lenovo policy, performance, or procedure does or does not meet the expectation of a particular member, but it is not acceptable to use this forum in an attempt to broadly organize or incite members en mass, to cancel orders, return systems, undertake legal action or otherwise disrupt the normal business processes of Lenovo.
No posting of private information.
Privacy - Lenovo respects the privacy of each member - please find the privacy link in the footer on each page of the forum. As such, we request that participants respect the privacy of all community members and of Lenovo employees that they speak with on the phone, or correspond with via email. Posts revealing items such as full names, email, or direct phone numbers  of others without their express consent is prohibited.
No commercial solicitation, other than advertisements placed by Lenovo.
This is not intended as an online shopping or trading forum. Members may not post inventories of items, or list items for sale on a routine basis. "Wanted" posts (e.g., a member seeking a 701c system) are permitted on a one-off basis. Individuals may also post single Lenovo products, or directly related accessory items as "for sale" in the general discussion area. Posts for non Lenovo related products are not acceptable (so no cars, boats, planes, tennis rackets,MP3 players, for example). Discretion of forum administrators to remove an item is reserved in all instances.
No solicitation for, nor exchange of information that will aid or enable unethical, illegal, immoral or unsafe activities.
For example, no posts concerning exchange of passwords, credit or banking information, warranty entitlement information for purpose of re-entitling out of warranty products. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc, or to subvert safety measures. Nor shall any posts provide descriptions to the location of, nor direct links to content related to these topics.
Members are restricted to a single online persona
Members may not register under multiple IDs, or utilize multiple email addresses within the Lenovo communities. This rule applies to Lenovo blogs and the forum. Posting under multiple IDs can be a deceptive practice and could create false impressions. The consistent use of a single ID / Persona whether posting response comments on Lenovo Blogs, or in active forum participation enhances the reputation and recognition of the individual community member.
Do not embed large photos (above 100K) or cut and paste large areas (use of quote) unnecessarily as these behaviors degrade the performance of the forum and detract from the overall usability and experience of others. Instead, host photos externally and link to them as needed within your posts. If you must post to the forum, post in the photos area, remembering to title the thread  photo thread appropriately when you post them to. Try to limit each photo to 100K or less in size, and provide a warning of "large attachments" if you are posting lots of pictures or if you had to go above 100K.
You can check out this article About Posting Pictures In The Forums for more useful details.
Do not attempt to subvert or corrupt the software of the forum
- members attempting to do so will be banned.
No posts or signatures with intent to promote or advertise
Any way of personal blogs/ websites/ pages/ affiliated websites/ resources are not allowed.* Links may be removed at Lenovo's discretion. Repeat offenders may face suspensions/ banning of accounts
a) External Links
External links to other sites are permitted when they are relevant to the discussion and the information included is not available or cannot be found in the Lenovo forums or websites. Users are not permitted to repeatedly link or post threads with intention to link to personal blogs, websites or other personal resources in the web as this will be considered as advertising or board spamming. The links / posts will be removed at Lenovo's discretion. External links may not link to any site containing subjects listed in the Prohibitions section of these guidelines. Repeat offences will result in forum membership being revoked.
b) Signatures
Members are encouraged to include their system details in their signature as this will inform and assist others who may be offering advice. No pictures are permitted in signatures. A single discreet link to a personal website or other online resource is permitted in the signature line. However, the link must not be directed to any site containing subjects listed in the Prohibitions section of these guidelines. Members are not permitted to refer to the signature link in the body of their post text as this will be considered as advertising or board spamming.
Guidelines and Recommendations
Before creating a new thread, search the appropriate section of the forum first for any existing and related threads. It may be more constructive to all, to advance the knowledge of an existing thread than to create a possibly redundant one. If you find something similar, but believe your topic is unique enough to create a new thread, then do create the new thread choosing your title carefully (see below). Provide some comments as to the existence of the related thread(s) you found and link to them. This will help other users and the moderators to provide the most valuable responses possible.
Post to the correct area - Post new threads in the sections for the particular family of systems, Thinkpads, Thinkcentres, Lenovo 3000, etc. Choose the proper series of systems - T, X, G, H, etc. Moderators will move threads to appropriate sections.
Title threads appropriately. The title of a thread should accurately reflect the subject of the discussion and be as technically specific as possible.  Avoid inflammatory or emotional statements that do not aid the development of the conversation. Thread titles are indexed not only for search functions within the forum, but often externally in Google, Yahoo, etc. Proper thread titles will aid the active members of the Lenovo community, as well as non-members who may be searching more broadly. Example of a good thread title: T Thinkpad Blue Screens after suspend . Example of a bad thread title: Stupid computer locks up - worthless piece of junk. Moderators may alter thread titles to be more meaningful if less than appropriate titles are chosen.
Use pictures to aid understanding and comprehension when appropriate. Screen captures of settings, pull down menus, or error messages can be very helpful in understanding an issue and helping to resolve it. Digital pictures of systems and their environments can also be helpful from time to time. Host pictures externaly, or post to photos area. Limit size to 100K or less. 10M pixel cameras are cool but the resulting file sizes are not. You can check out this article About Posting Pictures In The Forums for more useful details.
Look for ways to advance the richness of the forum. Share awareness of this forum with other users of Lenovo products that you know. Participate in special interest areas. Look for opportunities to mentor junior members - help them along the path to greater knowledge, share shortcuts. Do link to external resources and documents. Members that distinguish themselves by consistently providing quality answers, that advance the collective understanding, and resolve specific problems will attain higher rankings and privileges.
Please restrict off topic discussions to the general area.
There are thousands of online communities dedicated to a wide variety of topics from automobiles, to astronomy, folk arts to fly fishing. This community is dedicated to the Lenovo family of products, services, and the community members who own, use, and benefit from them.
Country Location
- Members should denote their country location in their personal profile.  Location is important when offering advice, as sales, service, and product options may not be consistent country to country. Note that community members from other countries may not all share the same understanding of metaphors, social references, or slang expressions. Posts authored with this in mind may be more easily understood by all.  This field is a requirement during registration.

• I have a HP office Jet 4500 wireless All- In One, how do I delete the customer participation program

Hi
The customer Participation Program is taking up so much space that I want to remove it from my laptop.
I have a HP Office Jet 4500 wireless All In One. When I attempt to remove it I get a message that says if I remove the program
my device will no longer work.. How can I safely remove it without damaging my equiptment from working?

couple of questions about this:
Are you scanning from the printer, or with software on the computer? If from the computer, are you initiating the scan from Windows, HP software, or Word?
If you put a legal size document in the feeder, and press scan, unless the defaults have been changed to letter size, it should scan the entire legal size sheet. You should be able to go into the settings and change that if the default has been set to letter.

If the advice resolved the situation, please mark it as a solution. Thank you.

• New Forum FAQ

This is a work in progress and will be re-formatted soon into individual Question/Answers in an FAQ subforum.
Can I over write the forums style sheets to change the layout?
Yes, Please see this discussion of scripts that can help you change your view of the Forums: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/294008?tstart=30
How can I see the interface in Japanese, French, German, Spanish, or Simplified Chinese?
In order to see pages in these languages, you can click the Region links at the top of page (where it lists a country name and says “Change”), choose your region and language from the pop-up menu. Click on "Remember this choice" under the menu.
Why do some older messages appear with parentheses around user names?
For a three-month period before our new forums were launched, we encouraged users to go through an account migration process to associate their former User to User forum IDs with their Adobe ID. Accounts with the parentheses are from those users who had content in the old Adobe User to User Forums, but who have not yet signed into the new system. The parentheses were added to these account names so they could be imported into the new system without clashing with screen names associated with Adobe IDs.
Once a user logs in with that account in the new system the parentheses will go away.
How do I participate in  the Adobe Online Forums via email?
Visit the forum you wish to participate in and click on the link to "Receive email notifications". You will start receiving new messages posted in that forum. You can reply to the messages directly from your email or you can click on a link in the message to come back to the forum.
Can I start a new discussion topic via email?
Yes. Once you have subscribed to a forum you can click on the “Your Stuff” link in the forums, click on “Mailing Lists” and find a "Create Discussion" email link for each forum you are subscribed to. Copy the full email address (it may wrap onto two lines) into your email client's address book and send new discussions to this address.
Can I include a file attachment via email?
You can include a file attachment in an email that starts a new forum discussion, but you cannot attach a file to an email reply to an existing discussion.
How do I stop receiving  email notifications from the Adobe Forums?
To discontinue receiving thread subscription updates, you can change your  personal settings in the web-based forums. To do this, login to the Adobe Forums by visiting http://forums.adobe.com/ and click on "Login".
Once you've logged in  with your Adobe ID and password, click the menu item labeled "Your Stuff" and select "Profile". Select the "Email Notifications" tab,  check the threads for which you would no longer like to receive subscription  updates and click "Remove Selected Notifications."
How do I prevent myself from being automatically subscribed to threads I post messages in?
Go to the Your Stuff link in the User Bar, click on Preferences, and uncheck the to radio buttons for subscribing to threads you create and threads you reply to.
How do I embed an image or a video in a forum message?
When posting a message in the Forums there are two buttons in the Rich Text  Editor to include a video or an image file in the message.
For video, click on the clapboard button/icon then select the video site and  enter the Video URL or embed code and click Insert.
For an image, click on the camera button/icon then select the appropriate tab (From Your Computer, Uploaded Images, or From the web) and follow the onscreen instructions.
What if I want to link to an image on an external site, such as Pixentral or Flickr, instead of uploading the image to the Forum server?
Flickr's Terms of Service state that if you post an image hosted on Flickr on another site you have to link back to the image page on Flickr. To do that you  need to go to your image on Flickr, click on the All Sizes link above the image,  select the size image you want, then Copy the HTML code from the first box of code underneath the image. Then, in the Forum's Rich Text Editor, click on  the >> button/icon and select Insert Raw HTML. This will open a frame  within your message where you paste the HTML code you copied from the Flickr  site. Then continue on with composing your forum message and click “Post Message”  to post the message to the forum system.
For Pixentral images, you will need to go to http://www.pixentral.com and upload your image following the instructions there. You do NOT have to check the box to make images public. Once your image is uploaded there copy the HTML code from the box below your image. Then, in the Forum's Rich Text Editor, click on  the >> button/icon and select Insert Raw HTML. This wil open a frame within your message where you paste the HTML code you copied from the Pixentral site. Please note that there is an extra "/" character in the Pixentral URL that will prevent the image from showing up, so you need to make one change to the HTML that you copied from the Pixentral site. The beginning of the HTML code  will look something like this:
<a href="http:www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=16xx5748rt9fhd"/>
Please remove the forward slash that appears between the quotes and the greater  than symbol so that this part of the HTML code looks like this:
<a href="http:www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=16xx5748rt9fhd">
Then continue on with composing your forum message and click “Post Message” to  post the message to the forum system.
Can I attach a file to a forum message?
Yes. Each message in the Forums can have up to three files attached. Each file cannot exceed 5MB. These numbers are subject to change.
To attach a file, create a new forum message as usual and then click on the “Browse” button below the Rich Text Editor box to select a file from your computer.
Are forum messages presented in Threaded or Flat order?
The Forum messages can be presented in either Threaded or Flat order. This  can be set in your forum Preferences. Click on the “Your Stuff” link and select “Preferences”. The first setting on that page is for how you want to see the messages.
In Flat mode, each message posted in the Forum will appear directly below and in line with the message posted before it. You will be able to view the discussion as if it were a live discussion with each person taking a turn in successive order.
In Threaded mode, each message will be posted below the message it is direct reply to and will be indented. This makes it easier to follow sidebar or sub-discussions, but can make it more difficult to follow a long conversation.
When you are reading messages in a forum, you can select to reply to the original message or to any of the replies to that original message.
How do I edit a message that I have posted in the Forum?
After you have posted a message you will find an “Edit” link at the bottom of the message. Click on the link to open the message editor and make your changes. The edit feature is good for fixing a typo or a link. But if you have extensive changes to make to your message we suggest that you post a new reply to your message instead of editing the original message. Editing is not available if someone has replied to your message. At that point, you have to add a new reply to the thread with the updated information.
How do I delete a message that I have posted in the Forum?
You can delete a message you have posted if there have been no replies. Once someone has replied the Delete option goes away.
How do I send a forum message to a friend?
While reading a message in the Forums, you can send a link to the discussion to someone outside the forum system by clicking on the "Send as email" link in the Actions panel. You can select user names from the system or email addresses of people outside the system and they will be sent a link to the forum. The actual message is not included in the email. The recipient will need to click on the link in the message to view the contents.
How do I report an abusive post in the Forums?
When viewing messages in the Forum you will find a "Report Abuse" link in the Actions panel on the right side for the original message and you will also find an individual “Report Abuse” link listed for each reply to the original message. Click on the link to send a report.
How do I upload an Avatar for my Forum account?
To upload a custom avatar for use in the Adobe Forums you must first create a 128x128 (max size) image file.
Then log into the Forums and click on “Your Stuff” and select “Profile”
Click on “Change avatar” in the Actions panel on the right side of the screen.
Scroll down to the “Upload Avatar” section and click “Browse” to find the avatar file on your system, then click “Upload”.
Once you avatar file is uploaded, it has to be approved by an administrator (this might take several hours to several days). Until it is approved it will be marked as "pending." Once the pending notification is gone, you can select that avatar and click “Save Settings”.
How do I upload an image for my profile page?
Log into the Forums and click on “Your Stuff” and select “Profile”.
Click on the “Edit Profile” link in the Actions panel on the right side of the screen.
Click on the “Browse” button to select an image file from your system.
Click on the “Save” button to upload and save your new profile image
All profile images will be scaled to be 320 pixels wide.
How do I access Private Messages?
The Private Message feature is located under the “Your Stuff” link.
If you have a private message waiting for you in the forum the “Your Stuff” link will be orange.
Click on the “Your Stuff” and select “Private Messages” from the drop down menu.
From there, you will be able to read incoming messages, create new messages, and manage old messages.
You can also manage an Address Book and sort messages into folders.
Can I attach a file to a Private Message?
No. But you can include a link to an image or a video.
How many Private Messages can I have?
40 (subject to change)
Can I subscribe to a feed from the Forums?
Yes, you can get an RSS feed from various parts of the forums: Announcements, Discussions, and you can even subscribe to an individual user by going to their profile (click on their name or avatar any place in the forums) and getting the feed link from there. You can also get a feed of your private message inbox.
Some messages have odd linebreaks and random characters in them, such as lines that start with B or I that don't seem to make sense.
The Adobe Online Forums is a new system that has data imported from two previous systems. One of the previous systems had its own message formatting codes, such as B for Bold and I for Italic. These codes import into the new system as plain text and lead to the formatting issue that you might run across on old messages.
I marked a reply to my question as the correct answer, but then discovered that it was not correct. Can I remove the Marked as Answered setting?
No, you can only set this for one reply and it cannot be removed. Please post a follow up message in the discussion thread with updated information, such as a clarification or rebuttal to the marked answer.
I am not clear on the points system in the Forums. Will I get points for simply posting questions or replying to questions?
No. Points are not given for simply posting a question or a reply. Points are awarded by the person who started a discussion. They can mark a reply to their question as either The Answer or as Helpful. They can mark one “Correct” answer and two “Helpful” answers per discussion thread.
I've clicked to edit my profile and now I'm lost. I can't get back to the discussion I was viewing.
Use the History link in the user bar.
Is there an alternative to the Rich Text Editor?
Yes, if you are comfortable with some basic HTML, you can click on the “HTML” link in the upper right corner of the Full Editor to switch to an HTML editor. If you use the HTML editor you need to remember to put in <p> and <br> tags between paragraphs, otherwise the HTML editor will remove extraneous white space (including carriage returns) in your message.
How can I Jump the last message in a thread?
Click on the XX minutes ago link in the list of threads to go to the latest message instead of to the first message.
How do I change my name or screen name?
At the very top of the page, click on “Your account”. Under “Account Information”, click on the “Edit Your Account Information” link. Edit the desired information on this page and click “Update”.
How do I change my email address?
At the very top of the page, click on “Your account”. Under “Account Information”, click on the “Edit Your Account Information” link. Your Adobe ID/email is listed here, and you need to click on the “Change” button. Enter your email address, your password, and click “Update”. Note that your email address is also your Adobe ID which you use to login, so if you change your email address, you will also need to login using the new email address.
How do I change my password?
At the very top of the page, click on “Your account”. Under “Account Information”, click on the “Edit Your Account Information” link. Your password is displayed as a series of asterisks (*****). Click the “Change” button. You will need to enter your current password, your new password, and a password hint. Click on the “Update” button to save your changes.

@ adobe-admin (J.C.?):
Thanks for fixing the "backslash" error. Accuracy is important, and doubly so when presented as an F.A.Q.
The sad thing is how prevalent the usage of "backslash" is when a plain old slash is meant (generally, the "forward" attribute is assumed and unneeded), and by people who should know better. It's a direct result of people knowing just barely enough about the Windows file path naming protocols, and then applying the only terminology they're familiar with incorrectly to URLs.
I went about 10 rounds—TWICE!—with a labyrinthian succession of people at the Discovery & History cable TV networks because they were saying "backslash" in voice overs whenever their commercials promoted their websites. It took some doing, but I finally got in touch with somebody who was savvy enough to recognize that it was a rookie mistake made by a clueless marketing copywriter. The voice over person just read the copy they were given, oblivious to the difference. It amazes me that it wasn't caught by somebody early in the recording/production process and rectified.
They then had it correct for about a year, until new commercials started popping up with the same error. Unfortunately, the person I had talked to previously no longer worked for the History channel and I had to go through the process of finding someone who understood all over again.
Yeah, you can call me a nitpicker with nothing better to do.
But I've earned that dang badge, and I wear it proudly!

Not sure what link you are referring to. Out of curiosity I pulled up the page source, and the link I'm talking about directs to: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Terms-of-Service-and-User/Welcome-to-Verizon-Community-Forums/board?boa...
This appears that the link is supposed to go to the Forum Feedback and Suggestions board, which I already knew about. (Obviously, since this post is on that board.) So it looks like the link just needs to be updated.
Unfortunately, I was hoping for an alternate route to support and/or a status post.

• I used  Ion Profile Pro to digitize quite a few records. However on some records, it will not recognize them and sync them in iTunes. Perhaps because some songs "ran together" when copied or titles were misspelled. Can I get iTunes to recognize them?

I used Ion Profile Pro turntable to digitize some old records. It worked fine for most of the records, but on five or six albums I get an error message saying "the original file can't be found" and it won't transfer them to my iPod Touch. However, the files are on my hard disk digitized and I can click on them and play them in Windows Media Player. When I go to iTunes, the records (or the CD created from the original records) exits in the iTunes libraries for sale. However, in some cases, the contents of the album offered for sale differs slightly from the original record, or the songs exist on different albums, but not the original album that I had. In some cases minor misspellings occurred on a few titles when they were entered in the ION softwareon my computer. In a few cases, it seemed as if ION did not recognize that there were two or three songs and ran them all together as one and again, my song list does not exactly match Apple's.
I own these songs, but iTunes won't put them on my iPod Touch. Is there anything I can do (short of paying for songs I already own) to get Apple to recognize these songs?

You seem to have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem.  Try posting in the iTunes forum.

• Fixed - bent connector - S12 ION poor wireless performance - Lenovo support no help

Hi forum,
I received my Thanksgiving deal S12 ION last week.  The size and format are perfect, the overall performance just what it needs to be, but the wireless performance is unacceptable.  I work for IBM, and have a T60P work laptop and two Y430 laptops, all of which have perfect full bars of wireless signal throughout my house.  But this S12 ION has only three bars in my office next to the wireless G router, and only one to two bars in the next room.  From any other room in the house I cannot connect.
I verified that I have the most recent wireless drivers installed.  The ones it shipped with are the most recent on the Lenovo support site.
I called Lenovo technical support.  After waiting on hold, I was connected, then dropped after another 30 minute on hold.  The second time I called in, I was told I needed to turn on the wireless using the switch.  I informed the tech that I was already connected and that the issue was poor signal.  He then suggested removing Lenovo readycomm, but that is not installed on this S12.  Finally he told me that this is just a netbook, not a laptop and that if I do not like it I should return it.
I am so angry with this poor support I would return it immediately, if it were not for the 15% return fee.
Does anyone else have wireless issues?  Am I mistaken about this being a nice wireless connectivity tool?
At the price I paid, $399, I can dump this on eBay, but I am seriously disappointed.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Hi Forum,
I opened the wireless card slot after reading in other netbook forums that some have had loose antenna connectors. At first I thought that was what I had as one of the leads, the black one, was not seated. It turns out that the connector on the wireless card was bent open.
See pics:

I bent the ring connector closed, reattached the antenna lead, and now I have great signal. Thought you would be interested in the pics.
I am going to call Lenovo and ask them to replace the wireless card, as there is no guarantee the connector is not damaged, but it is working fine for now.

• Tips & Tricks for daily forum reading?

At one point in time I used to visit the Arch forums quite actively in my efforts to contribute back to the community.  More recently, I've stopped reading the forums but I now wish to get back into the "swing of things" and read/write the forums daily.  I'm curious as to any tips or tricks the forum "regulars" know about to better tackle daily forum viewing.
The 2 helpful things I know about are..

and the lesser known about...

How do you guys and gals participate in the forums so much and still have time to be a dev, work, eat, sleep.. rofl  you get the picture! Tell us your secret strategy!

I recommend the Vimperator Firefox extension.  Once you couple that with the It'sAllText extension you can zip through the forums very easily.
Why do you need It'sAllText? Simply hit ctrl + I
But you can only change tabs while gvim is open with the most recent version of vimperator.
@topic
open every sub-forum in a new tab
open every interesting topic in a new tab
--> work through all the tabs (usually just closing them without reading anything )

• Creating a Windows 7 installation disk for S12-ION (and similar)...

In a recent (now dissapeard) thread the subject of creating a backup Windows 7 Installation disk that will work with the Win7 Home Premuim OA key on the sticker on the bottom of S12-IONs.
Unfortunately that thread got stomped on because it strayed off path.
So, I've started this thread to discuss the afore mentioned subject and request that we do not discuss anything outside that that we are legally allowed to do (and I suggest it might be sensible to avoid making any kind of comment that could be deemed to be outside the acceptable usage policy for these forums).
OK, so, does anyone have any further information on this process?
I know we need to start with a (legally obtained) Win7 install disk.
This can then be altered to operate as any given (or optionally all) version of Windows 7 install disk.
However, does the disk that one alters need to be a specific version?
My guess would be that a Windows 7 Ultimate disk is most likely to work, but I suspect all Windows 7 install disks are essentially identical, bar a configuration that one needs to modify.
Now, one could also, at this point, 'slip-stream' the disk to contain specific drivers, or required other software, for the target hardware (in my case, an S12-ION).
Would this be necessary?
What S12-ION drivers/software need to/can be slipstreamed in this way?
I'm sure there are other questions too...
Anyway, I plan to do some research, and will post what I find, but if anyone else knows anything about either of these processes, please feel free to contribute...
Scott

'Sweet', as I believe 'the kids' say these days.
Though, I'm still going to look into slipstreaming stuff into a disk - essentially I want what I wish Lenovo provided - one disk with all the base-level drivers and Lenovo management software pre-installed - so I can manage my HDD my way.
@omgmog: it's exactly those *ways* (or, rather, those that are legal) that this thread is here to discuss...
Now, an update on my research: I need to stand corrected on one point - Microsoft haven't made it all that easy...
But, unless Lenovo come up with, I dunno, maybe an iso I can just download and burn to disk, I'm going to keep going and see if I can figure out what the best, most hassle free, way of achieving our legal right is.

• I'm goint to miss this forum so much as it is!

I'm not trying to change it anymore because I don't think I can stop the river. But I am going to miss this clean, simple forum. I think it is one of the best there is.
I don't participate nearly as much as some of you do but I'm usually around reading and enjoying. Some of you are quite entertaining.
I just hope it doesn't get too pathetic. It would be sad if this becomes not fun or informative anymore.
Maybe we could start a new one. But then who wants to run it? Guess all we can do is wait and see.

Why do I think that?
Because the new format is too slow and uneconomical to encourage anyone to want to linger very long; or to return very frequently.
Large gaps between items (both listings & messages) mean that you can no longer get around quickly; only half the number of items are now visible per screenful and any thread that gets pushed to the second page will get no further responses.
No thought has been given to the requirements that have been stated so very clearly by the most regular Users; and the development team have taken the lazy and easy way out by adopting the standard Jive format.
The considerable concern that has been shown about e-mail access in the last few days means that people are intending to use that method
to access the Forums which obviously indicates that they find the new format to be unusable by Browser.
That alone will kill the Forums as happened with the Macromedia Forums which were so ghastly that everyone resorted to News Readers.
The Adobe Forums have been a wonderful resource until today;
but is now being willfully destroyed.

I cannot view some videos and participate in some websites since Adobe upgraded all to Flash 11.7. I have an older Mac G5 PowerPC (no Intel chip) running OS 10.5.8. I keep getting splash screens saying I have to update to Flash 11.7 but 11.7 is made for those Macs with an Intel chip. I am running the newest Flash for my system. It seems all concerned should have made Flash retro-compatible for those of us with older Macs. Is there a work around to this Flash requirement short of buying a new Mac with the Intel chip?

I'll bet you'll have better luck if you post your question in the Power Mac discussions here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/power_mac
Either that, or one of the forums at Adobe.
Good luck.
