Forward Emails - Distribution group setup Question

Using Exchange 2013. We have a user in AD called Purchasing User that has email address of
[email protected] and mailbox in Exchange. We want any emails that go to
[email protected] to be forwarded to (3) other recipients in the same AD (internal users).  In Exchange we tried creating a Distribution Group with those 3 members, that we could forward to, but when that
Group gets created it automatically created an email address called
[email protected]  (that does not exist at our Email host) and the forwarding failed.
1. Are we instead supposed to create the group in AD?
2. When the recipients get the email, will they see the sender's information or will they see the DG info--we want them to see the sender's info.
Thanks!

Did you try setting the forward from the powershell? If not please creating a group and try the below command.
Set-Mailbox –identity [email protected] –ForwardingAddress [email protected] delivertomailboxandforward $true
If you don't want to deliver to the original mailbox type "deliverytomailboxandforward $false" at the end
If you dont want to forward without delivering to the original mailbox, I would suggest you to delete the [email protected] mailbox, Create a distribution group with email address [email protected] and add the required members to the group.
Thanks, MAS

  • Exchange forward to distribution group error

    Hello
I would like to create a forwarding rule on my Office365 Outlook account
so that, when a new mail comes in with a certain pre-defined string in it (alert for a Sharepoint teamsite), it gets forwarded to every member of a distribution group. However I get the following error when submitting it, causing it not to take effect:
There are multiple recipients matching the identity "HEDFIN mailinglist". Please specify a unique value.
When following the specified "Click here for help", I get redirected
to a TN Exchange Server 2013 Error Landing page with the following (error-message?) in the URL: e=ms.exch.err.Ex8155FB
I'm trying to get a work-around for the fact that there is no possibility to set a global alert on a team sub-site. I'd like a mail to be sent to every user when
anything changes on a subsite. So my work-around would be that I manually set my alerts on everything of every sub-site and then forward the mails I receive (from my own alerts) to the different distribution groups (groups with different users and their mail
accounts) by filtering on the Subject (name of subsite).
Is there any other way to do this without having our members set their alerts all manually? I found similar requests from a year ago but they haven't been solved
    yet.
PS: I posted this same request yesterday as well, but for some reason the link doesn't work anymore and I can't seem to find it when using Search either.
    Regards
    Robin

    Hi Robin,
I want to double confirm the E-mail Server, Office 365 or Exchange 2013?
They are two different products, even if they are similar in many aspects.
If we are using Office 365, I suggest asking Office 365 Forum for help, so that we can get more professional suggestions.
    For your convenience:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/default.aspx
However, I still have some suggestions, maybe something silly, just for your reference:
PLEASE MAKE A FULL BACK UP BEFORE PERFORMING FOLLOWING ACTIONS!
    1. Please do a full resync of on premise AD (what is not the very best solution with bigger customers)
    HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSOLCoExistence
Search FullSyncNeeded value and pass it to 1
    Initiating synchronization
    Launch the synchronization console:
    %programfiles%\Microsoft Online Directory Sync\DirSyncConfigShell.psc1
    Run the following command:
    Start-OnlineCoexistenceSync
    2. Better is to change the settings in MOP for every affected dirsynched user-change it to something abnormal and then back to the correct value.
This triggers a repopulation of AD Property changes and fixes the MOP error.
    Hope it is helpful

  • Office 365 : Email distribution group

    Hi,
We have a scenario where user will create a list item in Office 365 SharePoint 2013 and when the list item is created, an email will be sent through a designer workflow.
The list item will have a column (people and group column ? ) where the user will add the distribution group to which the email should be sent. Can we create the distribution groups in exchange online containing external users (users not from domain..they
can be gmail, yahoo etc) and use them in people and group column in sharepoint.
If not, how can this be achieved ?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to use external user in people and group column in SharePoint Online.
First, we need to add external user to the site. Please refer to:
Office 365 & SharePoint 2013 Online: Managing external users
Then we can create a list and add People/Group column.
Finnaly, we can select the external user in the column:

  • Recreate an alias / distribution group that was deleted

I had an allusers@ distribution group setup in Exchange 2010 so I can send an email to all of my users.  I never remember to add new people and found out about the Dynamic Distribution Group.
I deleted the old allusers@ in Exchange Management Console.  I recreated allusers@ with the "New Dynamic Distribution Group" wizard in EMC.  I get it to find all of the user names and I complete the creation.
Now when I email [email protected] I get an undeliverable message with the following error:
    IMCEAEX-_O=FIRST+20ORGANIZATION_OU=EXCHANGE+20ADMINISTRATIVE+20GROUP+20+28FYDIBOHF23SPDLT+29_CN=RECIPIENTS_CN=[email protected] #550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound;
    not found ##
I tried restarting the server to refresh things and that didn't solve it.
I tried deleteing the Dynamic Group and recreating the normal ditribution group, but that failed again.
Creating allusers2@ as a dynamic distribution group and emails are delivered.
I went to allusers2@ properties and the E-mail addresses tab.  I add allusers@.  When I try to send to allusers@, it fails.
Any advice how to get allusers@ to work?

Thanks for your continued help in this.  I deleted the allusers@ reference in my auto complete and rebooted my PC.  I waited around 45 minutes before typing in [email protected]  allusers@ didn't work, but allusers2@ did.
This server is a Small Business Server 2011.  It hosts Exchange 2011 and our Active Directory.  Sharepoint has been configured on it, but we haven't used it yet.
Are they any other workarounds instead of clearing the whole autocomplete file.  Like I said, my users typically use it as their contact list and will be lost without it.
    Hi,
Yes, you can add the old legacyExchangeDN as an X500 Emailaddress on the new group you created.
In the NDR above we can see that the value for it would be:
    /o=FIRST ORGANIZATION/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=All23a

  • Cannot send to Distribution Group emails from outside exchange

    Hi,
I have created several emails linked to distribution groups in Exchange 2007.  When i email to these groups from an email hosted on the server the email goes through just fine.  When I try to send to these emails from an external email address (one from  hotmail or  yahoo) the email is never received and I never get a message back saying anything went wrong. I am able to receive email to all normal user accounts.  I know it was possible in Exchange 2003 to have group emails receive email from outside sources, as I used several group emails as logins at various forums, and received updates from them.
Am I missing some point of the setup?  I have all domains open to be received from, hence why I can receive to my normal user email address.  Any help would be apprecaited.
    Thanks

    Hello Scotty,
When you create any distribution list with Exchange Management Console - EMC or Exchange management Shell - EMS in 2007 by default Sender Authentication is Enabled to prevent unwanted messages from spam and from outside domain, this is by default in design...
You need to disable it to get email from outside.
From EMC: Recipient Configuration -> Distribution Groups -> Select a group -> Properties -> Mail Flow Settings -> Message Delivery Restrictions -> Properties -> Untick “Require that all senders are authenticated”
From EMS: Distribution List not getting mails from outside - NDR 5.1.1

  • Send Emails to Distribution Group

    Hi All,
I have a scenario where we need to create one distribution group and 4 users in that distribution group. There are almost 70 companies who will send email to this distribution group.
Now i want to achieve below goals,
    1) lets support i create an distribution group [email protected] and add 4 members in this distribution group.
    user1, user2, user3,user4
    2) If Company A send email to [email protected] only user1 & user2 will receive that email.
    3) If Compnay B send email to [email protected] only user3 & user4 will receive that email.
Is there any possibility to achieve this goal i am using Exchange 2010 with Microsoft Forefront Online Protection.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Zeeshan Butt,
Agree with the above suggestion, transport rule can achieve your requirement.
The sender address matches(the sender’s domain is)
The recipient address matches [email protected]
    Redirect the message to user3 & user4

  • How do you setup an email distribution list on an iPad?

How do you setup an email distribution list on an ipad?

Although you could create a contact group with your distribution list on icloud.com, you couldn't select the group to email to.  To email a group of contacts (as well as create contact groups) you would need to use an app like Speed Names.

  • Cannot assign an email address to SharePoint group (distribution groups)

    Hello,
I configured incoming email awhile back in our SharePoint 2010 environment and it works great. I can assign an email address to a list and the necessary contact is created in AD in the OU I configured for incoming email and of course the item emailed in
is added to the list.  However, if I try to assign an email address to a SharePoint group to create a distribution group, the following happens:
The following error has occurred while attempting to contact the Directory Management Service: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
From what I've found on Technet and other resources, if incoming email works as expected, assign an email address to a group should work without issue but this obviously isn't the case.  I've dug around in the 14 hive and pretty much the same exact error
is found there (with just a little more detail):
System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall)
    at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.DirectorySoap.SPDirectoryManagementProxy.CreateDistributionGroup(String Alias, String Name, String Description, String ContactCN, RequestInfo Info, DistributionGroupFlags Flags)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPGroup.CreateDMS(String dlAlias, String friendlyName, String description, String[] members, String requestor, String justification, Int32& jobId)
Any ideas what this could be?  I'd imagine the timer service account has the appropriate permission on the OU as it can create objects for lists with incoming email enabled without issue.

For the issue with group members who are not added during the creation process ...
I followed this Technet article : Configure
incoming email for a SharePoint 2013 farm
But in the paragraph "Configure AD DS to be used with Directory Management Service", I added
delegation of control for the following common tasks :
    Create, delete and manage groups
Modify the membership of a group
The distribution group gets created in AD with members in SharePoint 2013 ! It should work with 2010 as well…
PS : Do not forget to set up these rights, not only for the Central Administration Application pool Identity account, but for all
    your Web Applications!

  • Effective Permissions to send email to distribution group having "only senders in the following list"

Our environment is a mixed Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 server environment, still in transition (after 4 years). Users have Exchange 2007 mailboxes. A recent problem has been reported in a distribution group access model that has been working without
    complaint for several years.
[email protected] has member John Doe ([email protected]), Jane Doe ([email protected]), "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupA
[email protected] has member Rob Smith ([email protected]), Diane Smith ([email protected]), "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupB
[email protected] has members GroupA, GroupB, "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupC
When designed, we thought that when [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] it would be resolved to the user members of GroupC and delivered to everyone ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]). (While
it seems unlikely, that this model has functioned for several years without experiencing this problem, it is conceivable that until recently [email protected] and [email protected] have with few exceptions always had the same membership. Recent changes in
our organizational model have caused this to have some exceptions, and may be the root cause of this problem.)
What we are experiencing is that users [email protected] and [email protected] receive the original email. Users [email protected], [email protected] do not receive the email. [email protected] receives an email "Undeliverable: test

    What is the expected behavior?
Does Exchange resolve the "To" distribution group to member mailboxes for delivery purposes, or does it walk the subordinate child groups and check security at each level?
Is this a configurable behavior that may have recently changed as we have a "new" Exchange Admin poking around?
Might this be related to the mixed Exchange 2007 / 2010 environment?
Is there a way to obtain "effective permissions" for delivery restrictions?

  • How to add Distribution Group email alias from CSV in office 365

    Hello Forum!
Hope someone can help me troubleshoot this or even let me know if its not possible. But, I used powershell to import distribution groups and set primary emails in Office 365. That worked great, but we have two domains and i would like to add an email alias
to all my DGs for the other domain.
This was my best attempt and its not going well:
    Import-CSV "C:\distributionlists.csv" | foreach {Set-DistributionGroup "$_.Name" -EmailAddresses SMTP:$_.PrimarySmtpAddress,$SecondarySmtpAddress}
$_.Name is the column name for my DGs. IE: DL-IT
$_.PrimarySmtpAddress is the column name for my primary email. IE: [email protected]
$_.SecondarySmtpAddress is the column name for my email alias. IE: [email protected]

    Hi,
Based on my understanding, the below code should work when your manually run it:
    Set-DistributionGroup "DL-accounting"
    -EmailAddresses SMTP:<Primary Email>,<Alias Email>
If all those distribution groups have been already created, then use set-distributiongroup command should work. How about first new those distribution group, and then run foreach block to do the loop.

  • Internal email delivery taking very long time (EMAIL WITH attachment sent to large distribution group)

    Hi Fellows
I am facing an issue with Exchange 2010 SP3 (14.03.0123.003) environment. Internal email sent with attachment to an all employee or large-member distribution group chokes the queue on Hub Transport and takes from 7 to 15 minutes to deliver. during this
time period users's emails are also delayed because of transport queue. I am trying to diagnose the root cause for this. Your suggessions and insight might be helpful for me to get it over quickly.

    Hi,
Generally, a message that has a large attachment or many recipients takes longer for a Hub Transport server to process than a small message that's addressed to only one recipient.
In Exchange 2010, after a message is received by the Hub Transport server, the message is added to the Submission queue. Messages move from the Submission queue through the categorizer. When the message is categorized, a recipient's e-mail
address is resolved to an object in Active Directory. This query determines the mailbox associated with that e-mail address and which Mailbox server is hosting that mailbox.
For more information about Internal message Routing, please refer to the following link.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232193(v=exchg.141).aspx
In addition, Slow network bandwidth will effect email delivery. We can increase the network bandwidth to take a test. Low computer performance will also affect the delivery. If sending internal email without attachment to all employee or
large-member distribution group, will they take the same long time to deliver?
    Best Regards.
