Effective Permissions to send email to distribution group having "only senders in the following list"

Our environment is a mixed Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 server environment, still in transition (after 4 years). Users have Exchange 2007 mailboxes. A recent problem has been reported in a distribution group access model that has been working without
complaint for several years.
[email protected] has member John Doe ([email protected]), Jane Doe ([email protected]), "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupA
[email protected] has member Rob Smith ([email protected]), Diane Smith ([email protected]), "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupB
[email protected] has members GroupA, GroupB, "only senders in the following list" is set to GroupC
When designed, we thought that when [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] it would be resolved to the user members of GroupC and delivered to everyone ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]). (While
it seems unlikely, that this model has functioned for several years without experiencing this problem, it is conceivable that until recently [email protected] and [email protected] have with few exceptions always had the same membership. Recent changes in
our organizational model have caused this to have some exceptions, and may be the root cause of this problem.)
What we are experiencing is that users [email protected] and [email protected] receive the original email. Users [email protected], [email protected] do not receive the email. [email protected] receives an email "Undeliverable: test

What is the expected behavior?
Does Exchange resolve the "To" distribution group to member mailboxes for delivery purposes, or does it walk the subordinate child groups and check security at each level?
Is this a configurable behavior that may have recently changed as we have a "new" Exchange Admin poking around?
Might this be related to the mixed Exchange 2007 / 2010 environment?
Is there a way to obtain "effective permissions" for delivery restrictions?

Hi,
From your description, I would like to verify if you have done some changes for GroupB distribution group. Ensure that "[email protected]" is added to the "accept list" in GroupB's message delivery
restrictions.
What's more, are GroupA GroupB and GroupC Exchange 2010 distribution groups?

  • Send Emails to Distribution Group

    Hi All,
I have a scenario where we need to create one distribution group and 4 users in that distribution group. There are almost 70 companies who will send email to this distribution group.
Now i want to achieve below goals,
    1) lets support i create an distribution group [email protected] and add 4 members in this distribution group.
    user1, user2, user3,user4
    2) If Company A send email to [email protected] only user1 & user2 will receive that email.
    3) If Compnay B send email to [email protected] only user3 & user4 will receive that email.
Is there any possibility to achieve this goal i am using Exchange 2010 with Microsoft Forefront Online Protection.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Zeeshan Butt

    Hi Zeeshan Butt,
Agree with the above suggestion, transport rule can achieve your requirement.
The sender address matches(the sender’s domain is)
The recipient address matches [email protected]
    Redirect the message to user3 & user4

  • Prohibit Sending Emails to Distribution Group at specific times

    Hi team,
I have a request from my company to prohibit certain users from sending emails to Specific Distribution group at certain times.(12AM-7AM)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi,
Based on my research, there is no feature in Exchange server to directly meet your requirement: reject specific users sending emails to specific distribution group at specific times.
We can use transport rule in Exchange 2007 and later version to achieve Reject specific users sending emails to specific distribution group. Create a rule in Exchange EMC:
    Apply rule to messages
from "[email protected]" or "[email protected]"
    and sent to "[email protected]"
send "cannot send messages to this group" to sender with "5.7.1"
About schedule the transport rules, there is no feature in Exchange supporting it. I find an article about scheduling a transport rule by using task schedule in Server manager. Just for your reference:

  • Allow distribution group members only to send to distribution group

Is it possible to allow the members of a distribution group to be the only ones permitted to send to the distribution group? I've read up on this and I think it's possible with a custom RBAC role. Any other ideas?
    Thanks!

You don't need RBAC for this - you just need to go to the Mail Flow Settings
tab and open the Message Delivery Restrictions properties.  Add the group to the
Accept messages from: Only senders in the following list.  This will limit it so that only messages from members of the group can send to it.
You can also use the shell to do this by running:
    Set-DynamicDistributionGroup -Identity <group name> -AcceptMessagesOnlyFromSendersOrMembers <group name>

  • Can distribution list "managed by" person can send email to same group?

can distribution list "managed by" person can send email to same group?, if "Message accept by" in delivery restriction, only has one other's person's name is not the person who is "Managed by"

    Hi Syed,
According to my research and test, I agree with Vasil.
For example, Distribution Group1 is managed by A, but configured that only accept message from B.
When A send an e-mail to Distribution Group1, it will not display an mail-tips to indicate that this account don’t have permission to send to this group. When sending out, it will be automatically receive an Undeliverable e-mail which display that”#550 5.7.1

  • Is it posible send email to distribution list like group of mails

    Hi ,
i need to know if its possible to send email to distribution list via SAP
please let me know the process or program to do so or how to develop it? let me know if its possible by sap or not?
    regards
    ARORA

Agree with Zarko. But when you add contact for that external user and allow only that sender, the DL will not receive emails from any other users (internal or external).
If you added any entries under "Accept mesages only from Only sendes in below list" then only the entries added will be able to send mail to that DL whether the check box "Require that all senders are authenticated" is selected or not. You may check the
below technet article for more details.

  • Office 365 - Add single external sender to internal distribution group

You may be able to do this by adding the external email address as a contact in exchange, I'm not sure though just an idea, I have never tried this.

    Similar to this question:
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/452106-problems-with-office365-distribution-group but in my case I have a vip asking me to allow him to send email to any group from his personal email address, but still restrict all other external senders.Office 365 allows me to universally say let external users send, or restrict by sender and I can add everyone in my organization manually. What is the best way to do this? Can I add him as a 'sender' after making him a mail contact and then add our 'everyone' distribution list to the allowed senders to get everyone else in the organization approved?

  • How do I send an email with a group address and not show the addresses/names of the recipients?

How do I send an email with a group address and not show the addresses/names of the recipients?

Use BCC.   That's blind carbon copy.   And copy paste the address into the BCC field.  It really depends what e-mail program you use how to enable BCC.

  • When sending an email to a group, how do I select the entire group, or certain people in the group, without having to select each individually?

I have tried all possible shortcuts, and nothing seems to work.

    Hello C. Stephen Stewart,
I understand that you would like to send email to a group using Mail on your Mac. Please refer to the attached link for steps and information on this process.
Address an email message - Mail Help
    Use a group address
If you regularly send messages to the same set of people, you can create a group for them in the Contacts app. Then just type the name of the group in the address field of your message; Mail sends your message to each group member at the email address specified in Contacts.
To prevent individual email addresses from being shown when you send messages to groups, choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, then deselect “When sending to a group, show all member addresses.”
    Have a great day,
    Joe

    Here my questio is:
    1) How can i get the list of all the users when user select GroupA/GroupB/GroupC in dropdown list and sends an email to those users on submit button?
    2) Can this be possible Using Rules/setting Condition? If not

Please help me. Thanks in Advance.
    Mohammed

All this can easily be done with a pretty simple workflow.  Is there a reason you're not doing it that way?  It's best NOT to send the entire form via email, because the data is immediately out of date, the formatting gets messed up, it requires
InfoPath to be installed on the client, and it duplicates the data across the system.
Please explain why you want to send via email submit instead of workflow, and then I'll see about testing your scenarios.

    Hi VK,

For example, if i have 10 users in Finance group , another 50 users in Sales group and etc, so how should I handle in this case?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

  • When I send email to a group, it shows all members addresses even though that option is turned off in the preferences.

When I send email to a group, it shows all members addresses even though that option is turned off in the preferences. This just started happening on all my devices. I have the latest update instaled.

That doesn't work on Mavericks. Follow Tuttle's advice.

  • Cannot send email from Verizon to a specific domain using the web UI

I'm trying to send an email to a specific address on a domain I own from a Verizon account using the web UI. Whenever I click send, a popup appears saying "Your e-mail contains the following invalid e-mail addresses:" followed by the email address. I can send email to this address from a GMail account as well as my work email.
In Chrome, I can see that a "code":1002 error is being produced.
Does anyone know why this would happen? Does Verizon check destination domains for reputation? Is there any way to debug this further?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.
