Framegrabber board control with ActiveX through LabView

I have a framegrabber board that is not from National Instruments. It is
from a
company called Coreco. The name of the board is the Bandit board. I have
been
trying to determine how to control it through LabView. Several weeks ago
I found
the ActiveX control for the Bandit board on the Coreco website (www.coreco.com).
I installed the control so that LabView could control the board. However,
I have not
been able to get image acquisition. I have read the instructions for the
ActiveX control,
but everything I try still does not start image acquisition. Does anyone
have experience
with both LabView and the Coreco Bandit ActiveX control. I would also consider
some other approach to controlling
the Bandit board. Thank you for any help
that
you can give.
Sincerely,
Trinity Ellis

Try to use the Windows-DLL with is delivered with your board. I had used a
Matrox-Genesis board and had the same problems. The dll's worked. Gruß,

  • BasicTx and BasicRx daughter boards compatibility with USRP2920 and LabView

I want to know that BasicTx and Basic Rx daughter boards from Ettus research are compatible with USRP2920 and Labview or not.
Also do these boards supports variable gain or not? Please confirm

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

They will work but you need to use property nodes to configure them. Ther is no LO so ther is no center frequency parameter. I and Q are separate channels so you will need to break them apart and treat them as such. There is no gain because the boards essentially provide access to the ADC.

I am using an Automation Open VI to communicate with an ActiveX server in LabVIEW.  I have selected the ActiveX class I created in my Automation Refnum. When I run my code, I get the following error:
What can I do to solve this issue?

Your kidding, right? You have about 500 ActiveX Servers on your computer in a recent Windows installation and that is before you install any custom software. So it is quite relevant to know more details than that it is just SOME random ActiveX server.
For one not all ActiveX servers out there are the same, some are hobby projects that have been created by pretty unknowledgable people, some are an afterthought of a company to be able to claim they have support for any Windows application for their hardware and some are properly developed by a knowledgeable person. Assuming that your ActiveX server is flawless is not very realistic.
Also it is helpful to know which software and even version you try to use. You don't go to a car shop and ask him to diagnose your problem by telling him your car at home makes some strange noise but you are not going to bring it there so they can take a proper look!

  • MCA control with labview(?)

Hello I am a psysicist  trying to build a rotating photon detector (gamma camera) powered by a stepper motor. I am using a PCI-6503 to control the stepper motor and and ORTEC's ASPEC-927 Multichannel Buffer for the signal acquisition and I need some help & guidance.
My problem is the control of my Multichannel Analyser, which is normally done with Maestro 32. I need to perform the following sequence: step (stepper motor) - begin counting - stop counting- export data (results) to Labview- next step etc. I have to find a way to do it through Labview.
I tracked some NI forum posts referring to MCA drivers but they were too old (2000) I hope thing have changed since then. I have also been searching a lot in the internet but all I have come up with is either a publication "LABVIEW-BASED MCA EMULATION SOFTWARE FOR ORTEC MULTICHANNEL BUFFERS" or some reference to ActiveX usage for such a task. If someone has knowledge on the matter, I would like to know what is achievable and what is not. I have no knowledge of ActiveX programming whatsoever by the way.
ps.I haven't found anything relative to the communication of  labview with Maestro 32 which is the default software provided with the MCA card nor "reading" the .chn output files from labview so I assume it is out of the question.
    thank you in advance

    Hi Ycano,
Yes, you can operate your motor in velocity mode by using the Set Operation Mode VI to change it from position mode to velocity.
As for your control feedback loop, are you bringing in the feedback from the load cell via a separate DAQ card? If the load cell outputs a voltage in the +/- 10V range (if it's not a current transducer or doesn't require an excitation voltage), you could connect it straight to the analog input on your motion controller and directly implement it in your control loop for your motion controller. That feedback could then be operated upon at a faster rate than if you brought it in separately from a DAQ card (a closed loop stepper system).
Also keep in mind that load cells generally have a slow update rate, so they may be the limiting factor in how fast your system can respond to changes.

  • DC motor closed loop control through labview using usb 6008

    Hello
i am doing a project in which i want to control the speed of a DC motor (PID control) through labVIEW 2010. I am having a DC motor, a drive unit that regulates the voltage to the motor by getting analog voltage from 0 to 3.3V ( it can be used for both directions) and i also have a NI usb 6008 board. The problem is that i can't feed the usb 6008 with the digital signal from my hall effect speed sensor. Is it posible with this setup to control the motor?? I can also try to use the pulse as analog input and trasform the frequency into rpm's. Then i am thinking of generating an analog signal to feed the motor drive. If you have any further suggestion of a probably better hardware setup would be more than helpfull to me.
    Sincerely
    Jason Chaloulos

    Hello Michael
Thanks for the reply. I came across those topics before and all of them are trying to generate a PWM signal as output i want to use just an analog signal output so timing on the output is not that important i guess. i am struggling on getting the frequency from the digital input signal that my hall effect sensor generates. Since the maximum speed of the motor is 3000 rpm and with my tooth wheel the maximum  output frequency of the sensor will be 300Hz which i see its way less than the limitation of my ni board. Is there any tutorial documentation that might help me with this one ? Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards

  • Controlling ELVIS through LabVIEW

Hello. I am trying to integrate my LabVIEW VI with my ELVIS system. I am using a code for a guitar tuner that, when in tune, activates the ELVIS system and sends a voltage to a circuit that emits an LED. I am fairly new to LabVIEW and need to know how I can implement control of ELVIS through my VI.
Here is my schematic so far. And the file.
The data being sent to the Meter is from a scale of 0 to 2. If the guitar is in tune, then the ratio equals 1. What I am trying to achieve is that if this data is 1, then apply a voltage to the circuit from ELVIS and light the diode.
Can anyone please help me out with this? I appreciate any input. I am a grad engineer so feel free to speak in techy. Thanks!

    Hi
First of all you should give your teacher a mild kick in the but and say to him "students will never learn Labview properly if they only use Express VIs". Tell you teacher I told you so. I have also done some minor changes to your VI. But it is still plenty work to do. To solve your assignment with real Labview programming you should go to find example and find the example named "Continuous Sound Input". Also you will find some valuable hints in this link

    Good luck
Here is some useful tips for the Labview beginner (we have all been there some time)
1)Then starting a new Labview session enable context help (Ctrl+h). Do not be afraid to use the detailed help option
2)Then stuck, go to help in the toolbar then select find examples
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Integrating custom ActiveX control with SapGUI

    Hi everybody
I'm in the process of writing a custom MFC based ActiveX control written in C++ that we want to use in a product. I am currently at the point where I can instantiate the control and interact with the various methods that it exposes but I have a problem integrating the control more tightly with the SapGUI e.g. change of colors, fonts etc.
I want to make the control to reflect the user changes when the user modifies any settings of the SapGUI. I've tried catching various events that are exposed by some of the dictionary classes such as cl_gui_props_consumer=>color_change/global_prop_change and cl_gui_resources=>resources_changed but these events only fire in my control once the PAI of the client program that encapsulates the control fires which is hardly appropriate since it means that the control will have to wait for user input before it will change reflect any changes in user settings.
I've written a test program for my control and when I change my SapGUI colors the rest of the controls etc on the screen do change color but my control only change color once I've performed some action that fires the PAI. Personally I think the controls written by SAP intergrates with the SapGUI through some interface that is called behind the scenes by the SapGUI since the GUI will have some way of knowing the set of ActiveX controls instantiated inside it  and I cannot find any event in the ABAP controls framework (e.g. CL_GUI_OBJECT, CL_GUI_CONTROL) that will allow this type of integration. I'll be digging for the answer but any suggestions will by greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help.
    Kind regards
    Ettienne Hugo

    Hello Ettienne Hugo,
To get the SAP GUI Theme or font changes events you need to add your MFC application or ActiveX MFC dll into u201CSAP Configuration->Application Tab->Addu201D and u need to call the functions SapHookInit and to stop getting the change events u need to call SapHookExit.(sapfhook.dll provides these functions)
I tried with exe, never tried with ActiveX MFC dll/ocx. With EXE it works.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Problems with ActiveX Callbacks in LabVIEW 7

Have encountered an interesting problem with ActiveX "Reg Event Callback" in LV7 (WinXP):
In a nutshell, when a lot of events fire in rapid succession, the user-interface locks up.
The events still fire, and the front panel controls update, but the front panel will not respond to clicks. Interestingly, if the block diagram is open, you can stop it and turn on execution highlighting, etc...
    - I've discovered that the problem we're encountering is related to multiple events firing before the (reentrant) callback VI has finished executing from the 1st event.
    - by watching the Performance data in task manager, and tracking the # of handles used by LabVIEW, I find that when this happens, the # of handles increases, b
ut never decreases until you stop the VI
    - I would expect several (nearly) instantaneous events to launch multiple copies of that callback VI, and I can believe that would increase the # handles, but I would expect that LabVIEW would catchup shortly thereafter and the # handles would return to its starting count.
As an aside, using the old ActiveX event and callback method with the exact same version of the activeX control does not have this problem, events just queue up and then fire appropriately.
    Anyone seen anything like this?
Anyone (NI guys) have any ideas?
Follow up question (NI guys): when will the support for the old ActiveX event stuff dry up?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Ben,
The error message warns about the use of three ActiveX Event VIs that will no longer be supported in future versions of Labview. Following version 6 of Labview, the use of ActiveX Event VIs is shifting to the use of Register Event Callback VI instead. In looking at your screenshots, I did not see any use of the older ActiveX Event VIs. If possible, try attaching the actual VI to the post and I will take a look at that.
At least in terms of support, phone support currently exists for Labview 6 and 7. With the release of Labview 8, support for Labview 6 will slowly be phased out. In this case, phone support for the ActiveX Event VIs will no longer continue as they are no longer included in the versions of Labview for
which phone support is provided. However, Discussion Forums and web-based resources would be your best venue of support for those features.
I would strongly recommend that you migrate to replacing ActiveX Event VIs to using the Register Event Callback VI. The following is a KnowledgeBase article describing the transition of ActiveX in Labview:
Migrating from the ActiveX Event VIs to Using the Register Event Callback Node
Also, are you using the Automation Open/Close VIs? These two VIs will allow acquire/release informatio nof the ActiveX object. I have attached a couple example programs that are included in Labview to help demonstrate this concept.
    Hope this helps!

  • Control MAX through labview

    Hi,
Is there any way by which I can control and make selections in MAX through labview code?
I need to select driver sessions for IVI classes of instruments. For this it will be good if I can create IVI classes and select driver sessions programatically using labview.
    Any take on this?

    JoshuaP wrote:
The closest thing to a programmatic API for MAX is the NI System Configuration API, however I don't think that you can currently use it to configure IVI settings.
No, you cant use any existing API to programatically adjust IVI config settings.
However, all of these settings persist in "XML-Hell."  With the right file manipulations,  regisistry entries and / or details on what, if any, services need to be triggered to update it is THEORETICALLY possible.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I Wouldn't try it without serious NI involvement.  There is almost certainly a better way to get what you want.

I've been unable to locate an app that will do this.  The Photos app that comes with the phone or iPad has extremely limited duration controls.  PhotoStream seems to load everything from my phone or iPad not allowing me to just load up a set group of images.
iPhoto for iPad is getting some terrible recent reviews.  I tried a couple other free apps but they don't use Airplay.
I can do something like this with iPhoto and my MB Air, but it's kind of ugly to have the computer open in order to connect by Airplay to my Apple TV.  I've thought the iPad or iPhone would be a lower profile controller.
    Am I out of luck?

Thanks for your help.  Since I'm uninterested in loading all my photos (the only option) into photostream, I won't be able to use the settings in ATV.  I guess I'm just stuck with using iPhoto on my MB Air.  Thanks again.

  • Solenoid Control with LabVIEW

    Hey everyone,
Im brand new to LabView and I am in need of some assitance. Ive attached a picture of my block diagram setup. I need help with making the LabView code in order to help run this setup. I want to use LabView to activate my photoelectric sesnor, which when tripped will activate my solenoid valve immediately. The maximum allowable time between the photoelctric sensor being tripped to the valve opening cannot be greater than 50 milliseconds. I would also like to active my high speed camera 1 second prior to the electric sensor being activated. I have included the parts I am using in a list below. Thanks for all the help in advance.
    Solenoid Valve: SV-282 from Omega
    Photoelectric Sensor: Comet 14101A6517
Output cDAQ: NI-9472 (powered by external power supply "NI PS-15 24V")
    Input cDAQ: NI-9421
Camera: Phantom v7.3 (connected through ethernet)
In summary: with labview, activate camera, activate photo sensor which when tripped will open solenoid valve immediately.

I'm confused as well.  Why are you sending a signal to a sensor???  Provide power to the sensor all the time and read the digital output from it. Then, send a signal to the solenoid to activate whatever physical action you require when the sensor is triggered.
EDIT:  One more thing.  Since LabVIEW lacks any sort of time machine functionality you're going to have a fundamental problem activating your camera 1 second PRIOR to your trigger signal.   Usually the answer to that sort of problem is solved by recording the video data constantly in a ring buffer and then when you receive your signal you grab the data.

  • Why does LabVIEW allow me to have 2 controls with same name

    Here's a general LabVIEW question:
Why does LabVIEW allow me to have 2 controls with the same name in the same VI?  It seems like this only increases the chances of confusion.  Especially when someone is just looking at a block diagram (or documentation of a block diagram).
No other programming language that I know of allows this.  I realize that uniqueness of name is not as critical in LabVIEW as it is in any text based language.  For example, in a text based language, if I had 2 variables called abc and I wrote a statement
    abc = 12;
the compiler would not know which abc was being referred to.  In LabVIEW, if we had 2 controls called abc, the equivalent of doing an abc=12 is writing to a local variable (which is always linked to one of the controls) and there is no ambiguity.  Still, someone looking at the code cannot figure out which abc is linked to unless he does a right click>>Find>>terminal (or a double click).
Even though I have never and never will name 2 controls the same, I think it would be a nice constraint to see enforced by LabVIEW.
Any input from NI engineers on this?

I know when you copy and paste a control or indicator, LabVIEW automatically increments the label. But since you can hide the label, and show or hide the caption, there must be another mechanism that LabVIEW uses to keep track of all the controls. I thought I remember back in the "old days" (ver 6 or 6i) LabVIEW would give you an error if you tried to make two controls with the same name. Perhaps that was LabWindows/CVI.
I don't know where the index is actually stored, but if you look at a property node linked to the Pane, you will see an array of references to the controls and indicators. Since the references are stored in an array, I assume that any local variables are tied to the index of that array. Since the labels themselves are properties of the control, I guess there's no reason to limit what that label is. They all have a unique index number.
Interestingly, this array of references grows from the beginning. That is, any new control or indicator is put at index 0, not the end of the array.

Attached is the vi for the program.  I will also try and attach the C code for the project.  It took a lot of failed attempts to get it working so I hope this works for you.  I don't have a schematic for you, but if you look over the C code it should let you know.  Also I used the CCS development kit 16F877A.  I'm not great at programming in C so there is a good chance you can clean it up a bit.
