Hi, I am attempting to install j2sdk1.3.1 for free bsd as well. I used the linux version. But I found the installation started but aborted in the middle. I tried j2sdk1.4.1 as well. The same problem appeared.

Please help,I need to know the right tools and java technology to support what I need.
I had background programming in Assembly,C++,Visual Basic,SAP/ABAP 4.
All I can say, programming is about logic, now we are very helped building program using objects.
I'm very interest to SAP tech, where all screens, programs, reports are resides on tables, this is the real dynamic!
CUrrently I'm eager to do the same technic with java. I'm new to java....
What I know the J2EE is the core for me to start is it right? I was very interest with the Client-Server Tech. How can I impelemet this with Java?
I'm a bit confuse with so many java solutions. There is Java Applets, Swing, Java AWT, JavaBeans, etc...
I don't know what is the best if I want my Presentation/Client Application will run within browser (not standard html, using like windows gui). What should I do to make business logic objects, how to invoke it within the gui. how to make installation package whenever clients connect to the http server.
if you have a pointer to do it please let me know.... I'm very appreciate all your response...

I'd say - don't get carried away with the heavyweight frameworks. Don't use EJB if Hibernate and/or Tomcat will do the job. There's a danger of winding up using a bulldozer to crack a wallnut.
What people mean by "J2EE" varies a fair bit.
Start with Tomcat, which has the virtue of being free. Try some JSPs and servlets.
Use Applets to do client side presentation only if you must; Applets create an installation overhead on end-users, and some of them can't cope, while others may not have the necessary installation permissions on their office machines. They are pretty rarely needed, IMNSHO, most client-side behaviour is better handled with html and JavaScript.

JRE 6 freeze browsers and Java Control Panel Applet stops working!

this is the second time I got this problem with Java JRE 6 ! First one was a month or two ago:
I have Java JRE 6 update 20 installed on a Windows 7 64bit ultimate. It was working...much time ago...then i found my browser (firefox, google chrome or IE8) was freezing when I open java application or test pages. I tried uninstalling it, cleaning the system with Revo Uninstaller, or CCleaner or JavaRA and reinstalling with no luck. The other problem is the same that user Mass8 had (http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5372196&start=15&tstart=0)

I tried disabling UAC, running JRE, starting Win7 in safe mode with network...but browser always freeze. It's not a true freeze, with CPU busy at 100% (cpu stays in idle) but it seems to wait for something. It's not a problem with video card driver on my machine, because I can start java control panel from command prompt...and without the noddraw switch, using this command:
javaw -Xbootclasspath/a:..\lib\deploy.jar -Duser.home="%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%" com.sun.deploy.panel.ControlPanel
This was the description of my first time.....then I replaced my system with an Acronis image...and I used the system for sometimes....and Java was working until 3-4 days ago! So I did another image of the system with all things working.
Then this morning...I tried the java test page.....and surprise! It's not working anymore!
In these days I think I only disabled UAC and Account virtualization....maybe JAVA saves things there...and then when I disabled UAC (Windows7 deleted those folders and files) it can't find there anymore???? Who can help me?
I don't want to restore my image every month!
My system is 100% virus free and from the last image restoration I didn't visit suspicious sites and so on....I have antivirus and antispyware software...all is perfectly CLEAN. Any ideas or things to try?

I'm beginning to think it's something related to Hybernation after using JAVA....I'm using it very often...and if I use it...and I suspect Java is KO...i try control panel and it doesn't works....then I try with browser and it freeze (or keep waiting...and i can only force to close it)

Java option icon not displaying AND Java not working, even after deleting and re-installing Java

Hi, I have uninstalled and re-installed Java. When I look at Add-ons, it shows Java Platform SE7 U17 10.17.2.2 and Java deployment Toolkit 7.0.17… 10.17.2.2 enabled. But it is not working – and I do not see the Firefox plugin to allow occasional use of Java.

I have now unistalled and re-installed Firefox 20.0. restored preferences etc. using MozBackup, and Java Platform and Java Toolkit10.17.2.2. both show as working Add-ons - BUT STILL NO JAVA AND STILL NO RED ICON IN TOOLBAR. What is going on, please ?

After update June 28 of security and Java on 17in mac bk pro laptop cannot startup

After June 28 security and Java updates my 17 in mac book pro will not start up properly..I get a screen with text on the side and a window telling me to press the sart button to shut down and then press again to start up...( a gray panel comes down over the page before the window appears)...I have tried the install disc and done the disc and permissions repair...permissions repair could not repair "System/Library/Core Services/Remote Management ARDAgent/Contents/Mac OS/ARDAgent" a SUID file. What can I do?

Try to get into your machine and if you do, the first thing you do is backup your files to a external drive. (not TimeMachine) via regular drag and drop methods.
Disconnect this drive. and all others.
You can then c boot off the installer disk for your OS version and under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility > Repair Disk
Also you can totally reinstall OS X, shouldn't effect your programs or files (but backup all files just in case)
If that don't work, c boot off the installer disk again, this time use Disk Utility to Erase >format HFS+ Journaled with Security option > Zero All Data (will take some time) This will totally wipe the drive of everything and is a last ditch effort.
When it's done quit, and reinstlal OS X.
You'll have to go through the setup and reinstall your programs and files from backup. Secret is use the same user name and drive name as the previous time so your iTunes folder will work without a hitch.
If you restore from TimeMachine, it's possible whatever problem you had can return, but you can try and if it doesn't work, just repeat above without TimeMachine.
Later look at free Carbon Copy Clone your boot drive to a external HFS+ Journaled formatted drive and keep in a safe place, it hold option bootable, great if your hard drive bites it, or TimeMachine gets hosed. TM isn't bootable.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

In order of worst to best ideas for doing cryptography that is (or at least should be) compatible with
OpenSSL:
System.exec to call openssl binaries
JNI to wrap calls to OpenSSL methods
Not-Yet-Commons-SSL has some OpenSSL compatible stuff: http://juliusdavies.ca/commons-ssl/
Just use the Java Cryptographic API using algorithms/params that are compatible with OpenSSL.
It seems odd to have a requirement for a project that is written in Java to have to use a C library. If you want open source (free $$) and Java, go with BouncyCastle or Mozilla's JSS (which is FIPS approved, BTW).
It's not too hard to find a common middle ground between such crypto toolkits as Microsoft CAPI, NSS, and OpenSSL.

Charging and the annoying lights, skins, and java apps...

So, as you all may know... When you plug in this phone to charge it, the rave-ready lights start pulsating away on the sides of the phone. For someone that sleeps with thier phone on the nightstand next to them, this is totaly annoying. I contacted Motorola about this to try to find a way to shut them off (while charging). They said 'No', this is just the way the phone is. My wife is about to throw this thing accross the room at night. If you think the lights aren't bright, try it in pitch black... it blinks the whole room. I don't want to have to put a shirt over something i paid this much for. Anyway, just in case anyone else wondered about that, that was as far as i got.
So there is a lot that can be done with this phone via bluetooth. I'm just figuring a lot of it out now. Since the base firmware is pretty much a duplicate of the e398 most all java games and applications that worked with that phone work with this one. I fould an older application that works with bluetooth to install free games and applications (finding them on the internet isn't too difficult) with no hassle, totally easy. If anyone wants to know more about that they can email me off the list, becuase i don't know if apple wan't that sort of thing discussed here. Who knows.
One thing I haven't been able to figure out it how to change the skins. You can do it with a pc pretty easily i think, with the same application that you did it to change skins on the e398. But as a mac user, it's been a little tougher to figure out. When you plug the phone into the computer there are a whole lot of folders in there. I didn't know if i could drop new skins somewhere and they would show up in the skins options. I've tried a couple different folders with new skins to no avail.
I guess i'll talk more about my regular experiences with the phone later, but i will say, a lot of plusses, and a couple negatives. Take care, and thanks to all

Saving your marrriage:
you obviously haven't had a sony-ericsson phone eg se 910- this has green and blue leds that blink all the time and you can't shut it off BUT with the rokr your wife doesn't have to put up with it!
Ignore motorola support; all you need to do is go Menu, Settings, Ring Styles (Audio on Cingular phones), Event Lights and change to Off. It will no longer flash green when charging, blue when bluetooth activity etc.
At least that option is on standard rokr - I hope cingular haven't removed that option.

J2EE has an additional E in it, while J2SE as an additional S.
Ok, now that we cleared that up, Lets see if I can answer your question.
There is no magic button such as 'java web start' that will automatically generate computer code for you. You have to write java line by line and debug each and every line of code. A typical whole project may consist up up to 1500 functions (mine has over 12000). You read whole books on the subject as I discuss below and work through thier examples. Within about 2 or 3 years of hard study, you should be a pretty good programmer.
Java is an object oriented language that you'll need to become familiar with that takes some practice to learn. Also, a java based web site consists of several technologies in addition to the java language that you'll need to be familiar with. Many programmers will read articles on the internet and pick up fragments of information on these various technologies and throw a web site together thats impossible to maintain and enhance. I think it would be better if you read whole books and experiment with the technologies. Consider it an at-come college course. Here is my suggested reading list read in roughly this order ( I suggest buying them one at a time via the internet (its cheaper) before moving onto the next book).

Its a free Eclipse Java development tool that has the bulk of the java development IDE market (above even JBuilder).However, I suggest creating a few small java programs using the dos command line before you let this IDE do a lot of the work for you. You also might want to install some type of database (Oracle Lite, MySql, etc) on your computer so you have a database to play with (you'll need a computer with at least 2Gbytes of memory).

Credit is mixture of free songs and euros

In my credit list I dispose of 11 free songs and some money.
Now when I select to buy a certain album of 12 songs, only 9,99 euro needs to be paid (instead of 12x 0,99 euro).
When I would only have money as a credit, there would be no problem to have this advantage. But those 11 free songs are in my way (maybe because their expiration date is before the money expiration date?). I'm also afraid that the extra song on the album ('album only') won't be downloaded for free... as this is the 12th song
Why doesn't iTunes choose in my advantage, and takes away e.g. 9 songs in this case and make me download the whole album??

i think both of them have the same set of files to be installed...

The JRE (Java runtime Environment) contains just the stuff necessary to run Java and the SDK (System Development Kit) contains the extra stuff necessary (and also helpful) to develop in Java.

I have a Java swing tool where i can compress file inputs and we have C# tool.
I am using GZIPOutputStream to compress the stream .
I found the difference between C# and Java Gzip compression while a compressing a file (temp.gif ) -
After Compression of temp.gif file in C# - compressed file size increased
while in java i found a 2% percentage of compression of data.
Could you please tell me , can i achieve same output in Java as compared to C# using GZIPOutputStream ?

Btw what is faster compression vs. better compression?meaning, does the code spend more time/effort trying to compress the data (slower but better compression) or less time/effort trying to compress the data (faster but worse compression). most compression algorithms allow you to control this tradeoff depending on whether you care more about cpu time or disk/memory space.
