Free Java Authentication/Administration Tools

Hi all,
I thought it might be helpful to some of you if I shared my source code for iTunes U authentication. I also have included in the webapp a basic set of admin utilities with a showTree feature. The fun part of the showTree features is that I have written a digester that instantiates java objects of the xml nodes, so you can extend it to do any number of things (please honor the license agreement though!-)
There is a README.rtf that has the webapp instructions.
You can download the war file and all source from here:
http://uonline.utah.edu/temp/iTunesuFreeTools.jar
Hope this finds its way into "usefulness" somewhere. Enjoy!

I've just installed this. (I had to also modify server.xml to include context before connection pooling would work. See below.)
Yeah, I am using virtual hosting, so your experience may differ. Thanks for the solution post!
I'm trying to get a better understanding of how I can use the framework to allow visitors to download content. Any help or documentation would be great..
You can use the [email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu permission to allow unauthenticated users to download and stream content, of course, or you can publish a visitor login and password. There are 3 visitor profiles already listed in the visitor table; to download, edit, and shared. You can add the permissions to objects like this:
[email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu with download access level.
[email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu with edit access level.
[email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu with shared access level.
So, to clarify, any_uid, when authenticated from the within the visitor table will be given the [email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu credential. I added this for our staff that want to give seminars to professors where they can work on private test courses. But, you can use it for anything you choose. I also added the nonkdcauth table for the soul purpose of sharing the app with others. We use Kerberose to authenticate, and ldap to pull course credentials. Any uid listed in the nonkdcauth table will be given the [email protected]:itunesu.com:sites:yourschool.edu credential.
The credentials are built in the edu.utah.uonline.ViewBean. Refer to the source for adding or understanding the features. Sorry, not very well commented, but hopefully not too obscure.
Also, I'm a little confused on how to get this working with LDAP. I know our LDAP server and I know that we use 'cn' instead of 'uid'. I also know that we can traverse everything below our 'o=trinity'. Not sure how to fill out the resource file to make it work.
The hardest thing for me when I started writing java code to do lookups against LDAP was the connection stuff. This code can be found in the edu.utah.uonline.ViewBean as well (starting in line 156, initProperties(boolean useLDAP)). Each ldap server can be set up differently so you will need to know your structure to implement it. This code will also have to be changed to reflect your specific filter information (line 169 of same source file).
Just another couple thoughts about kdc and ldap. I originally added these features, like storing uids and passwords in tables to build our credentials so that I could publish the webapp for those who did not use KDC or LDAP. Hence, useKDC and useLDAP from the properties file was an after thought. If you choose to try to implement these features at your school, make sure you also check you kdc connection specific properties in the Resources.properties file and then change useKDC and useLDAP to "true" (also found in the Resources.properties file) and then check all connection and filtering code in both edu.utah.uonline.ViewBean and edu.utah.uonline.Login.
Nice work. I've been frustrated with this custom integration since we signed on to iTunes. Now I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Glad to help!

    Is there a free web-based Oracle Administration tool? Oracle SQL Developer is a free tool but not web-based. There are many web-based Shareware Oracle administration tools but I could not find a free tool. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know.

  • Oracle BI Administration tool has stopped working

    Just now finished the 11g installation.But im not able to open BI Administrator.Im getting this error.Please help.
    "Oracle BI Administration tool has stopped working
    A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.Please close the program"

    I followed the below steps(taken from this forum) for installing OBIEE11g 64 bit version in a 64 bit machine.Installation completed successfully.But not able to open BI Administration tool.Any suggestions???
    There is not a particular 64bit installation. I think it works like this: if you are using a 64bit JDK the apps server is also running 64 bit.
    You can find the generic jar here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/wls-main-097127.html and take the generic one (http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/middleware/11g/wls1033_generic.jar)
    You install this by a command like this (you have to look up the documentation): java -XXm.... .... wls1033_generic.jar
    Then a installer pops up.
    So these were my steps:
    - installed RCU
    - installed 64 bits JDK (jdk-6u21-windows-x64.exe)
    - installed Weblogic (wls1033_generic.jar)
    - installed OBI as "software only"
    - configured OBIi (config.bat you can find in <obi11g home>\Oracle_BI1\bin)
    All together it does not take much longer then the 32bit install. Only some extra steps to do.

  • Administration Tool login via 10817 failed

    Hi,
    Have a problem for a long time on login issue to the administration tool via ksvradmin in iAS 6.5. Lived with it until recently as need to change some parameter thru the admin tool.
    Does anyone has had this problem and got it solved? When attempting to register a server using the default info as below, it keep prompted me login failure:
    Name: iAS1
    Hostname: localhost
    Port: 10817
    Username: admin
    Password: xxxxxxxxxxxx
    I do not have any problem connecting to the iDS or startup any of the services just that I cannot login and register an server. Please share your experience/solution to the above issue if you have resolved such issue before. Thank you.

    Hi,
    This is interesting!! After running through the thread, I suspect there is some issue with your configuration not the .rpd. Taking your words that replacing your old .rpd does not work too and of course the your old .rpd would have worked, here are my prime suspects
    1. Some clustering setup running behind scenes. I not get any other instance, when a .rpd could be shared except when a master .rpd is shared with cluster servers. So is the "Sharing violation" error.
    2. Some Init blocks in your .rpd with "Required for Authentication" set. For example, an init block with "required for authentication" is bound to fail and not let you in online mode, when the underlying source/ DSN etc has issues.
    So, check on these guys and see if you nail them down first.
    Hope this helps.

  • "JBI Addons"/"Java EE 5 Tools Bundle" Problem

    [ Sorry if this is the wrong forum, not sure if this is a netbeans issue or open sb issue]
    I'm very interested in Open ESB and would like to start playing around with it. After deciding to download Open ESB, I stumbled across the "Java EE 5 Tools Bundle " which contain (among other things) the "Project Open ESB Starter Kit ". The installation went well.
    I'm immediately interested in installing the "JBI Addons". I'm following the directions in JBI_AddOns.html but get stymied at this step:
    7. Install and start the Service Engine:
    Navigate to Sun Java System Application Server 9 node > JBI > Service Engines.
    Under the Servers tab in Netbeans I do have a "Sun Java System Application Server 9" node but there is no "JBI" node underneath it. I just have "Applications", "Resources" and "JVMS".
    Until I figure this out I can't install these add-on binding components. Any ideas?
    I was hoping to leverage netbeans for this experimentaion. However would I better of doing a "raw" OpenEsb install instead?
    [Sidenote: The myriad of netbeans/BPEL/JBI/AppServer bundles makes it very confusing for us folks new to these product lines]

    Thanks for your response.
    Yes, the server is running but still the "JBI" Node does not appear.

  • Java ME SDK Tools 3.0.5 Integration NetBeans IDE 6.9.1

    I've installed the NetBeans IDE v 6.9.1 and Java ME SDK Tools v 3.0.5 on a Vista (build 6001) SP1 machine and everything worked just fine. I had a system failure, and had to (attempt) uninstall / re-install. After a clean install of the OS (Vista Home Premium), the JavaME SDK folder was left over & I manually deleted it, re-installed the Java ME SDK Tools.
    My first issue was trying to get them to integrate into the Guest account. No luck. Then a standard user. No luck. And finally as an administor. No luck again.
    So basically, there seems to be some stranded registry entry (which I have tried to clean after uninstalls) that signals NetBeans 6.9.1 that the Java ME SDK (3.0.5) is installed (even when I have removed it and deleted to folder). At which point the NetBeans IDE asks continually if I would like to integrate the Java ME SDK Tools. Either way, the tools will no longer integrate.

    Ok. So I finally got it working. I had to uninstall the Java ME SDK Tools, and NetBeans (again). This time, i received no errors. Then I deleted all of the related dot folders (.nbi, .netbeans, .netbeans-registration) & "javame-sdk" from every user folder.
    For some reason it seems that NetBeans IDE 6.9.1 or Java ME SDK 3.0.5 was still trying to use the old administrator account folder (from the previous, wiped-out Windows installation). I was wondering why the old account re-appeared in the User folder!
    So if your having the same problem: Uninstall NetBeans & Java ME SDK Tools, delete all related folders, run a registry cleaner like CCleaner, reboot, re-install.
    ** If you get errors during either uninstall operation, then you will have to re-install & uninstall again! ** <- Basically, do the above steps twice =)

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/account-administration-tool.html

    Hi guys,
    For some reason there is no "Free" option for the Article Access in the folio as per documentation - please see below, only "Metered" and "Protected". What could be the problem?
    TIA,

    Select the "Enable Article Preview" option to let users preview any retail folio that includes articles marked as "Free" (use the Folio Producer Editor to mark articles as Free).

  • Visual Administrator tool

    where can I download SAP J2EE Visual Administrator tool
    thank you

    Hi reza,
    Sidharth is right in his post that the Visual Administrator is not included in the Java EE 5 edition. And in fact, Visual Administrator will no longer be available in the next version of NetWeaver Application server. It is being replaced by a new, web-based administration tool for online administration of your <b>landscape</b>!
    The Java EE 5 Edition also contains this web-based tool with limited functionality.
    To use the new admin tool, you need to install it first by executing just a BAT file. Go to <Install_dir>\JP1\JC00\j2ee\NWAdmin directory and execute install.bat. Also, refer to the readme.txt. in the same directory for instructions how to start it.
    Another option for online administration of the preview would be the Telnet administrator where you execute shell commands.
    If you're more specific with what configuration tasks you need to perform, we might give you detailed steps of how you can do that with the admin tools available in the Java EE 5 Edition package.
    Hope that help!

  • Which is the best free Java Obfuscator?

    Hello,
    I am planning to deploy my application using Java Webstart and to protect my code from reverse engineering wondered - which is the best free Java Obfuscator?
    thanks,
    Anil

    Herko,
    Thanks for your insight. With your explanation, I have more respect for your approach. I am a (struggling) one-man startup trying to get this thing off the ground. Yes, my idea can be learned by seeing it in action. That is why, advisors have told me to yank the demo from the web site (http://juwo.com)
    I would hate to see someone else steal what I have done with a lot of trouble and even worse, use my own source code to do so. In short, I dont want to be a fool.
    thanks,
    Anil
    I know the Proguard product, as well as several other
    obfuscation tools. I know obfuscated stacktraces can
    be reversed (as long as you go through the extra
    trouble of maintaining the obfuscation mappings for
    each version of the software you release). That was
    not my point.
    I work for (and am part owner of) a small software
    development company. We have invested 9 years into
    writing enterprise-quality software that is provided
    to customers all over the world. We used to think we
    needed to obfuscate our software too. However, we
    have found that the source code is by far the
    least important aspect of what we do as far as
    most of the outside world is concerned. Which
    is why we have been developing a major part of our
    software as Open Source since 1999. Which is why we
    have switched completely to an Open Source strategy
    earlier this year. That's right: all of our code is
    (or soon will be) freely available to anyone,
    anywhere.
    We have learned over the years that the most
    important aspect of our work is not the code, but the
    idea behind it. Obviously, this idea can not be
    obfuscated without defeating the entire purpose of
    the software. This means others are able to learn
    about the idea just by seeing the software in action.
    That alone enables them to implement that same idea.
    The fact that they might use our source code to do it
    is largely irrelevant.
    Going one step further, the most important aspect of
    our work is actually the way we - the people who
    made the software - use that idea solve the real
    problems of our customers. It is that knowledge our
    customers ultimately pay for, not the code.
    With very, very few exceptions the basic idea of your
    code will not be unique on a global market like the
    Internet: sooner or later (and from our experience,
    it's always sooner) someone will have the same idea.
    Their implementation of that idea might be better
    than yours, or it might be worse. What ultimately
    matters, though, is wether or not you are able to
    convince customers that the idea itself is sound.
    Customers buy solutions, not code.

  • Can not use repository administration tool

    Hello,
    I'm a newby at Oracle Designer and I have a problem create a repository for Oracle Designer.
    On my computer I have installed the following software:
    x Java SDK & JRE 6
    x Oracle Database 10g R2
    x Oracle Designer 10.
    While I'm installing Oracle Designer the OUI says that it can't find Java JRE but the installation completes.
    If I want to use Designer with the hr-schema it says I have to create a repository for the user hr.
    If I want to open the repository administration tool nothing happens nothing. If I want to open the repository command line tool it says that it can't find ORACLE_HOME but I have set the environment variable ORACLE_HOME to the database home c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1.
    I presume that I have to install the complet Developer Suite. Is this correct or does anybody know the answer?
    Please Help me!
    Thanks to everybody.

    Yes you have to install the complete Developer suite for Windows. Then you will need to install a repository on an existing database.
    Here are some quick instructions on doing that:
    After you install the IDS 10G in a new oracle home on the Client windows PC you will find the intall manual under:
    start - programs- Oracle Developer Suite - Designer documentation - Repository instalation Guide
    The following are the step I use to build a new repository
    You will need to set paths and names as you desire for your local PCs and repostiory.
    -- Step 1
    Log on as SYS
    This is so you can get the path name of your datafiles:

    The following are the recommended minimum settings.
    optimizer_mode = Choose
    compatible = 9.0.0 # for an Oracle9i database
    compatible = 8.1.7 # for an Oracle8i database
    max_enabled_roles = 30
    sort_area_size = 262144
    sort_area_retained_size = 65536
    hash_area_size = 1048576
    optimizer_index_caching = 50
    optimizer_index_cost_adj = 25
    shared_pool_size = 32000000
    db_block_buffers # comment out on an Oracle9i database
    db_block_buffers = 2000 # on an Oracle8i database
    open_cursors = 3000
    processes = 100
    db_file_multiblock_read_count=16 # for a 4K Oracle block size
    db_file_multiblock_read_count=32 # for a 2K Oracle block size
    db_file_multiblock_read_count=8 # for a 8K Oracle block size
    Step 5b - (Oracle 9i or 10.2 DB) Install Oracle 9i or 10.2 Import and Export Utilities
    Before installing Designer Repository on an Oracle 9i or 10.2 database, you need to set up the installation workstation to use the Oracle 9i or 10.2 import and export utilities. To do so, perform the following steps at the workstation from which you will be running the repository installation:
    From the Oracle 9i or 10.2 installation media, install the Oracle 9i or 10.2 import and export utilities in a dedicated Oracle home.
    In the Windows Registry, locate the key named:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_HomeName\REPOS61
    where HOMEn is the home number of the home installed into for a multiple Oracle home environment, but is not present where the default Oracle home is being used.
    Change the value of the EXECUTE_IMPORT and EXECUTE_EXPORT variables to point to the new Oracle home. Thus, if the new Oracle home is d:\des_9i, the settings would be:
    d:\des_9i\bin\exp.exe
    d:\des_9i\bin\imp.exe
    -- Step 6
    Log on to the Repository Admin Utility of Designer
    start - programs- Oracle Developer Suite - Designer - Repository Admin Utility
    Install Repository button
    Make sure both check boxes are checked(one is grayed out) Next
    Select the proper tablespace for the seletced box
    Start the install.
    Hope this helps.
    Michael.

  • Error in Launching Administration Tools

    Hi
    I have installed WLP4.0,WLS6.1SP1 on HP-UX 11i Machine. After successfull installation,
    When I launch Administration Tools from the index page,I am getting the following
    error (Pl see Below). I have not Yet even launched the EBCC and played around
    with WebFlows and Pipelines.This is to say that I haven't modified any of the
    web flows are anything else.
    The Same kind of error is coming when I invoke the Personalization Examples also.
    I have attached the WebLogic.log with the detailed logging.

  • J2EE Administration Tool

    Hi,
    I tried to start J2EE Administration Tool with >go.bat< as described in XI 3.0 Installation Guide. Unfortunately the GUI will not come up. Batch file still runs without consuming CPU.
    The logfiles (output + error) in console/logs do only report the current timestamp.
    Any idea?
    Environment: SAP Web AS ABAP + J2EE system (J2EE Add-In), Win32 + Oracle
    Thanks in advance
    Andreas

    Hi Lyubomir,
    you can find the description in the WAS Installation Guide for Java too.
    Here my answers:
    J2EE Engine version     System tells me about 6.30 (but I requested 6.40 during installation), engine is running
    OS                    Win2000 SP 4
    JDK                    Sun, j2sdk1.4.2_06
    first try to use VA, never worked before.
    I am starting VA by invoking go.bat. In verbose mode he tells my about a lot of classes, that are loaded. But that’s all. There is no GUI visible, no dialog possible.
    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • Administrative Tools is showing 2 IIS, one is IIS6 and IIS7 which may be causing Central Administration not to be retrieved

    Hello Community
        I reinstalled Sharepoint 2010 and SQL Server 2008R Evalution  64bit edition
    on a member server running Windows 2008 on Windows Server Enterprise Service Pack 2.
        Then I click the "Sharepoint 2010 Central Administration"
        The first error I got was something to the effect that:
    "The IIS Admin Service" service failed to start because a privilege that the service
    requires does not exist in the service account configuration run Local Security Settings
    MMC."
        So I changed all of the service accounts to run under the domain admin account
    except IIS Admin because it would only work under either the Local Account or Network
    Service so I ran it under Network Service.
        The error message I got after that was similar so I added "Create Global Policy"
    to the group that the domain administrator account and services is in.
        After that I didn't get the error message instead in the address bar I
    saw http:\\<machine name>:port number\
        But the page below was blank.
        I went to Administrative Tools and discovered I have two IIS items:
    #1-Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager
    #2-Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
        #1 is blank: Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager
        #2 is "IIS 7": Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
    so I double clicked Sharepoint Central Administration v4 and clicked the Security Tab
    and added the group with the domain admin account and gave it full control. I also
    enabled the following:
    Anonymous authentication
    AsP.Net Impersonation
    Basic authentication
    Digest authentication
    Forms authentication
    Windows authentication
        Then I click the "Sharepoint 2010 Central Administration" again and
    then I saw http:\\<machine name>:port number\login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f in the address bar and
    on the page I saw HTTP 404 Not Found.
        I think Sharepoint 2010 uses the 14 hive but since I just installed it I don't know what pages
    should appear so I am at a lost at this point.
        What can I do to make the Central Administration page appear?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

    Hello Daniel
        Okay, actually I have tried to do this perfectly but after
    failing initially I have probably been trying anything that came
    to my mind.  So let me explain my initial effort:
        I used a domain admin account and logged on locally with that account to
    member server to install Sharepoint 2010. Then like you say, I ran the
    product configuration wizard to create the farm and Central Administration
    site.  A Central Administration site was created that I can see in IIS7.
        I don't remember clicking "Basic Settings" or "Test Setting" but I do
    remember clicking "Authentication" and I think I saw 5 or 6 types of authentication
    but only 2 were enabled so I enable the other 3 or 4 and think they were:
    Anonymous authentication
    AsP.Net Impersonation
    Basic authentication
    Digest authentication
    Forms authentication
    Windows authentication
        After all of this when I clicked "Central Administration" from
    the "Start Menu" I would get prompted 3 times for a password and then just get
    <machine name:port number> in the address bar with a blank screen.
        After repeating all of these steps over and over again I decided to just
    install WSS 3.0 and upgrade that working WSS 3.0 into Sharepoint 2010.  But the
    problem is I don't know how to perform that type of upgrade.
        But now I want to answer your question because you seem to know where I went
    wrong so I am going to reinstall Sharepoint 2010 up to the point where I can answer
    your question of:
    "If you select the web site and from the actions pain choose Basic Settings, then click Test settings, what is the result?"
    and
    "What authentication is enabled if you open Authentication under IIS in the central pane?"
        My only questions are what is supposed to be the results after choosing
    "Basic Settings" and "Test Setting" and which of the Authentications should be
    enabled and after I set them to what you say, should I then get the Central
    Administration page when I click "Central Administration" from the start menu?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut
