Free Naming Service for use on Win NT?

Hello,
I have a java application in which I'd like to use JNDI to access some Naming Service outside of any application server environment. Does anyone know of a free naming service for use on Win NT? My requirements are pretty minimal I just need a name service which will store generic Java objects and allow me to do JNDI lookups on these objects. The only service I can find is the NT File Service but it seems I can only use that to store/lookup File objects and not generic java objects. Thanks in advance for any thoughts anyone may have!
-Jason

Hi,
you may consider to use FileInputStream/FileOutputStream
to read/write your java object in the file. Since you can look
up / store the File object, it should be possible to get its
file name. I guess.
good luck,

  • How to activate an enterprise service for use?

    Hi experts,
    I want to use a web service out of the bundle "Technical Document Management Connectivity". The web service is called "Read Document File Variant".
    I know to use WSCONFIG to configure web services for use. But I can not find this web service listed there. I know that we have installed EnhP1 and EnhP2 on our system and the above mentioned web service is shipped with EnhP2.
    Do I have to activate some swichtes within the Switch Framework in transaction SFW5 first? Can somebody tell me which switches to active for what specific enterprise service?
    Thanks a lot for your help.
    Best regards
    Lars

    To explain the concept …
    The Switch Framework allows you to control the visibility of objects or their components by means of switches.Between the business function sets and the industry packages are the switches.
    It is the business function that is switched on, not the switch itself therefore you have to use Transaction SFW5 find the business function and then activate it - in order to use it.
    Hope this helps

  • API services for multiprocessing with Win 8.1

    Which new API services are available for multiprocessing with Windows 8.1 ?
    1. Creating a process ?
    why ? Win 7.1 allocated all available cores for multiprocessing automatically whereas Win 8.1 allocates less
    2. Creating a thread ?
    why ? Win 7.1 allocated cores for thread wheras Win 8.1 lets too many cores to sit idle !

    Hi Noel,
    You are right, seeing is believing.
    However, even if I showed screen snap shots it would prove nothing because the software using Win 8.1 could be wrong / badly designed.
    In this case the latest Linux version utilizes all CPU cores as does the Windows 7.1 professional whereas
    Windows 8.1 performs the same processes and their threads using only part of CPU cores.
    The number of processes created > the number of CPU cores.
    The amount of threads started by a process >  the number of CPU cores.
    Because each process activates threads instead of performing tasks sequentially, several processes/threads should run concurrently and OS should utilize CPU cores efficiently.
    Monitoring tools used: trace proving interprocess communication and application activities,
    Task manager, Logitech (Linux) performance monitor and with Linux its performace tools.
    We'll plan to implement 3D visual trace to complete the current 2D textual and XML trace.
    Seeing the Windows 8.1 program code for process creation and being able to compare that to the corresponding one of Windows 7.1 would show if there are any differences - or could it be the energy saving options ...

  • Distributed naming services for load balancing

    Can distributed naming services can be used for load balancing?

    ata,
    Before jumping to anything so bloated and limited as cougaar, take time to consider what you really need. Before grabing at the fanciest Java features like RMI, JINI, and custom SocketFactories; focus on what you are trying to accomplish.
    There are plenty of great answers right here, at this forum.
    Good hunting,

  • Home Hub 3 Software for use with Win 7

    I am going to be getting a new PC soon with Win 7 on it. I currently use a machine with Vista on it and I have this connected to a BT Home Hub 3.
    I will to set up the hub on the new machine, my question is , where can i get the software for this?  If I had a disk for this I have lost it
    At one time there used to be a software page with available downloads but I cant find that now.
    Any help gratefully received!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No software is needed, just connect it up either by Ethernet cable, or wireless using the wireless key on the home hub.
    Its best not to install any of the BT software, as it can cause problems.

  • When will FF be available in a true 64-bit version for use with Win 7 Pro 64-bit?

    Using Win 7 Pro 64-bit, when will FF 64-bit version be available?

    Someday. This is a question asked multiple times but the answer is always the same, there is no real benefit to moving to 64 bit Firefox, and the amount of work required to do something with no benefit makes this a low priority. Eventually it will happen, but just because it uses 64bit doesn't magically make things better.

  • I cannot find an update for Acrobat 9.0 to 9.5 for use on WIN 8

    Can anyone point me in the right direction? Does one exist?

    Thanks for your quick responses.
    More specifically, I have Acrobat 9.0 installed on my laptop running Windows 8.1. The updates function in Acrobat returns a message that it cannot find the update server. When I try to download updates from Adobe direct, even if it is only to update to the 9.1 version I get a message that my machine doesn't have the software installed on it. BTW, the 9.0 installation I have was actually an upgrade from Acrobate std 6.0.

  • JNDI params for (default) J2EE naming service.

    Dear All,
    I am trying to get a client program to access a session bean using JNDI. Could anyone tell me how the naming context should be set up (i.e. what -D command line params to use).
    Assuming the server Sun's J2EE and beans are deployed using deploy tool;
    What parameters would be required to do a lookup on the naming service?
    i.e.
    java.naming.factory.initial=???
    java.naming.provider=???
    any others?
    The reason for this is so that EJB clients can be installed WITHOUT having to also install J2SDKEE too.
    In principle it should be possible to do the lookup using only only javax.naming and javax.rmi. (Which are in the standard SDK).
    Can anyone help???
    JNDI Code...
    /* What naming params will make this lookup */
    /* on an EJB running within J2EE */
    /* work?? */
    Context context = new InitialContext();
    Object obj = context.lookup ("crs472/SimpleConverter");
    // get a reference to the home interface
    CurrencyConverterHome converterHome =
    (CurrencyConverterHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj,
    CurrencyConverterHome.class);
    // create an instance of the currency converter EJB
    converter = converterHome.create();
    System.out.println("Got the home interface OK.");
    // Start calling methods...
    Regards,
    Jeremy Townson

    hi
    u have to pass a properties object or a hashtable while creating a IntialContext object
    this properties obj or hashtable should be having values for these keys
    javax.naming.Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY -class name provided by the naming service")
    for websphere its - com.ibm.ejs.ns.jndi.CNInitialContextFactory
    Similarly for weblogic , Sun J2EE
    the other key will u have to provide is the
    javax.naming.Context.PROVIDER_URL - ip address along with the port on whcih the naming service is listening for the request
    then u passs this properties obj or the hashtable to the
    Context context = new InitialContext(props/hash);

  • Free Youview box for new BT infinity customers

    Does anyone know how to get the free youview box for new BT infinity customers?   Ordered new service on 12th Dec and called in later to check how/when I'll get the Youview box.  The CSR told me that I had to call after the broadband was installed to arrange to get the box and I would have to pay £5/mo for the TV service but according to the BT site, it's supposed to be free for BT infinity customers and £5/mo for other broadband customers (+ the £49 activation fee for all customers).
    As I understand it, the offer ends 31st Jan but my infinity broadband is not scheduled to be installed until this Friday, 1st Feb (after a whole lot of aggravation, wasted time, incorrect info and failed follow-up by various BT reps).  I'm afraid if I call in afterwards, I'll be told that I missed the deadline to get the box and/or I have to pay the monthly fee even though I'm a BT infinity customer.
    Since BT phone reps have been unreliable, can anyone provide info on this?  Thanks for your help

    I wasn't aware I had to do this when I signed up.  So you're saying even though my line isn't installed yet and I'm a new customer, there's no way to get this if I didn't add this at the time of order even though I know this offer was active when I signed up?  When I signed up, there wasn't an option to add free TV service for 12 months for Infinity so I didn't add the service offered at £5.  Would BT really use loopholes and technicalities to avoid providing something they've offered and put up billboards everywhere to promote?

  • Object Life Cycle service Vs. Naming service

    Hi,
    In tuxedo CORBA, I find that Object Life Cycle service & Naming service have something
    similar that the are both used to find object reference, aren't they?Then, I'm
    interested in what make them diferrent in this action(find object reference) and
    why to use one but not the other one?I can't be very clear from the docs.
    Thanks and Regards
    George

    You are correct in that there is some overlap here (ask OMG about
    this...). BEA historically recommended the use of the FactoryFinder
    (BEA did not initially even support the Naming Service) since the whole
    intent of the FactoryFinder was to "provide a naming service for Factory
    objects" (rather than for instances). BEA believed that this was a
    "best practices design pattern" to building scalable applications. Of
    course, there is nothing preventing you from using the Naming Service to
    do exactly the same thing and in fact, many existing applications were
    written using the Naming Service in this way (since most other ORB
    vendors did not implement the FactoryFinder) and as such, BEA added
    support for the Naming Service.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • How to add the "Services for Object" icon/functionality.

    Dear all.
    I have seen in some SAP standard transactions a button named "Services for Object" in the title bar of the screen. An example is in transaction MM03. The button is to the left of the title "Display Material xxxx".
