    Experienced freelance Flash AS3 coder needed to resolve issues on a  touchscreen interface built using Flash AS3.
    Needs to have experience with Timer Class and URLRequest  method.
    Anyone interested, please let me know.

    We've done these types of playbars before for other clients. Cannot promise anything, but we'll take a look at your requirements.
    For future reference, this link provides some information about commissioning a custom-built widget: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/catalog/widgets/Custom_WDGT_DevService/about
    The most important thing to remember is that anything like this will cost many times more than even the msot expensive widget you can buy online, because those widgets are sold hundreds of times over before the developer recovers their costs.  Development of one-off widgets need to be fully funded by the person that wants it.  If this widget isn't worth a lot to you, but would just have been "nice to have" you're probably NOT going to be interested in what it would cost to build.

  • Flash authoring in WYSIWYG style is the innovation designers need!

    I'm just wondering why Adobe didn't upgrade Flash professional to the same idea as flash catalyst. It would have been more successful and innovative because most of the bashing Flash is getting(CPU clog, bugginess, etc) partly because of some developers coding faults would have been reduced.Imagine a design mode where you build all the possible creative experience you can think of in a wysiwyg style and the codes are authomatically written including data binding capabilities, pre-made components, custom components, camera, etc. I believe Adobe flash platform has grown and mature for this. Adobe should kindly think about this.
    The idea of working in catalyst/MXML could have been done with flash professional since the codes would be converted from MXML to actionscript anyway. Luv Adobe

    As is always the case in this sort of situation, you ask the printer, or banner maker.  If you have a particular company in mond, they may have a website with guidelines, and that is going to be much better information than the guesses - good though 'some' of them might be.
    25' by 16' is huge.  Have you found somewhere that will make it?  This company will supply 25 foot long banners, at a surprisingly cheap $176, but only 3 foot high.  The problem being the width of the printer.

  • Need some help embedding a url into a swf file

    Hi all
    Thanks to help I have received here, I am almost done with my add banner. I need the banner to link to a url.
    The entire banner needs to be a clickable link for  the duration of the animation. So anyone can click on the banner at any point during the animation, and be brought to my site. I tried putting a frame at the end with getURL("http://www.mybsite", "_blank"); but that doesnt work. When I do that, the banner is not a clickable link, but the site opens automatically  after the animation has played. Cant have that. So after doing some research, the apparent correct way to do this is by making a button, but I do that and the button obsures everything else.
    Any ideas on what I should do?
    Thanks in advance.

    if nothing else is clickable, attached to your main timeline:
    this.onRelease=function(){
    getURL(whatever,"_blank");

  • How to create a horizontal full screen banner filled with sideways moving graphics?

    Well, that is the question.
    Spec: The banner should be the width of the page (or the screen),the width should be about 10% of the screen height, and a fixed series of pictures or graphics should be continually moving gently sideways inside this banner, filling the banner.
    Note: I have Studio VII extensions at my disposal, and a whole bunch of others, but since I am new to Dreamweaver, I have not tried them all out; and so far, Studio VII inserts or behaviors have not answered my question (or I did not persist hard enough to get one of them fulfill my needs).
    Slide Show Magic? Vertical or Horizontal Scroller? ShowPicLayer? Image Gallery Magic? ...all by Studio VII.. or anything else, as long as it gets images moving sideways in a banner.

    First you need to build a container for your header and since you want it to be liquid (flex to size of viewport), you'll need to use a width in percentages rather than pixels.
    Example of liquid header can be seen here: View page source to see the CSS and HTML code.
    http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/Liquid-header.shtml
    Second, use Flash to build your moving picture banner.  For detailed info on that, consult the Flash Forum.

  • Continuity in Banner Animation between HTML pages..

    I have a banner animation at
    http://www.sierratec.com/skills.html
    that plays a series of slides at the banner.
    I need the animation to continue, from the previous
    transition slide before other html like products, clients etc., are
    clicked.
    For ex. If we are in the skills.html page and we navigate to
    partners section , then the animation at the banner must continue
    from the place from where it was left before leaving the the skills
    section and before clicking the partners section and not start from
    the beginning as it is seen now.

    When javascript window.focus() is invoked and there are more than 1 IE windows open the focus will go
    to the IE window that executed the window.focus();
    If you have notepad open and focused it will not focus on the IE window (you need an API call to do that)
    Anyway, you can call a javascript function from java, here is an example:
    // new class for jsObject!!!! compile this: C:\harmpie>javac -classpath "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_01\lib\plugin.jar" test.java
    // since jaws.jar does not exsist anymore
    // to compile: javac -classpath "C:\j2sdk1.4.0_03\jre\lib\jaws.jar" someApplet.java
    import netscape.javascript.*;
    public class someApplet extends java.applet.Applet {
        JSObject win;
        public void run(){
             try{
                 win = JSObject.getWindow(this);
                         win.eval("window.focus();");
            }catch(Exception e){
                 e.printStackTrace();
        public void init() {
              new Thread(this).start();

  • Fonts for Commercial Projects Part 99

    On these forums, whether it is Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, ect the Apple EULA (for front usage) is pretty much the same. There are also tons of threads addressing this question.

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19781608#19781608
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20150843#20150843
    I just need clarification. I just switched to freelance design work and need to know how I can really use these fonts in any client work.
    From what I am understanding, Apple purchased fonts from some foundries. It purchased the rights to install these fonts on their operating system for customers to use them for personal use i.e., like a resume or powerpoint presentation.
    However, these fonts can not be used say for a logo, book, publication, web design or basically anything that would be outside the scope of what a designer would create for a client. UNLESS, I go through each and EVERY single font Apple provided with its software and read each and EVERY font EULA?
    Even if I read all of them, they are usually little to no help.  Zapfino, for example, the font info preview states nothing useful (included below.)
    So basically, I am forced to hide all fonts by apple so I know which ones I can use for logos, web design, ect? This seems ridiculous! When I purchase fonts from foundries, reading each EULA is one thing, but goodness for Apple? We don't have to for Adobe
    Sorry guys, most designers seem to think you can use anything installed for projects. I don't want to end up in trouble down the road and find this VERY frustrating. Apologies for the rant!

    Hi Kurt,
    I just looked at your other responses and am glad you are here The thread below states the moderaters were contacted and we are ok to use the fonts. I ended up submitting a question to the legal team at apple too. If I recieve a response I will show you.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/396465?start=0&tstart=0
    Just one more question though from your response:
    Kurt Lang wrote:

    F. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the
    Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only
    embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in
    question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info
    panel.
    It does read somewhat strange. The first part is easy. You can use the fonts however you want for your own use. Embedding is also clear. You need to check the restrictions as shown in Font Book's Info panel. What it doesn't cover is sending the fonts along with a project as is (not embedded). Is that okay? The license doesn't cover that scenario. I think you'd have to go by each font's individual license to be sure.
    The only thing Font Book preview provides regarding embedding (for Apple's fonts anyway) is:
    Enabled               Yes
    Duplicate              No
    Copy Protected     No
    Embeddable          Yes
    It doesn't state anything else about embedding. Does embedding yes indicate it's ok OR does it mean the font file extension is embeddable? For instance, .dfont maybe is not embeddable (no idea if that is the case just an example.)
    Thanks so much!

  • Help with exporting as an animated gif

    I've created a small banner ad and need to export it as an animated gif.  The problem is, when I open the gif after exporting it, there's no animation.  The way the animation is set up is 1 frame on the main timeline, and a scrolling movie clip as the background.  There is no actionscript at all in the file.

    instead of converting your movieclip to a graphic:
    1.  copy the movieclip frames
    2.  create a new graphic
    3.  paste the frames to the graphic timeline
    4.  drag the graphic to the main timeline and remove the movieclip
    5.  extend the main timeline enough frames to reveal the graphic animation
    6.  make sure your gif publish settings are for an animated gif

  • New System Build feedback/advice, please...

    Time to build a new WorkStation. My motivation for upgrading is that I have been using a mediocore laptop (i7m, 8gb, 250gb ) from my work as my home system for the last 2 years, I am starting to get more freelance coming in and need a good desktop.
    I am not so sure about my processor, mother board and video card choice. I am more interested in app usability than absolute throughput and want to maximise my dollar investment.
    Purchase date: this week
    Budget:  I'd like to stay close to $1000-1300, but can spend more for significant performance gains. As I do more  research, my inclinations are trending higher.
    System Usage: My primary uses will include photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop, 3D graphics using 3D studio Max, Maya and Mud Box, HD video editing using Premiere and After Affects and  Web Design. I will also use it as an HD media player and hifi audio is important. Maximizing cs6 performance in premiere & pShop is my main target. I am focused mainly on user experience while running these apps. If I need to encode hrs of video or crank out frames in max/maya, I can do it at work. I seldom run games.
    Monitors: I'm running two Dell U2410's IPS, calibrated w\Color Munki, one portrait one lanscape.
    Parts to Upgrade: Full system build
    O/S : Win7 Ultimate, I might play with Ubuntu/Virtualization
    Vendor: Newegg unless I can save big $$ else where. I like B&H.
    It needs to be an Intel machine & I have chosen lga 2011 becuase I'll eventually go to 64gb. I'll do some modest overclocking.
    Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your expertise.

    Do you have any feeling about how much I'll gain by going to the 6 core cpu over the 4 core? Remember, for me usability in the cs6 apps is more important than marginal gains in throughput.

    Finally, I would like some advice on video cards. I prefer nVidia to ATI, but I'm not sure which chip to go for. The six fifties are cheaper, but the 660 ti provides more CUDA cores.

    Alex,
    I sure wish you would quick picking fights with lots of knowledgeable people just trying to help people build good PCs for running Adobe Premiere. (I am stating that based on not just this thread, but rather the strong challenges you seem to bring to about half of the threads that you've chosen to participate in).
    I was the original poster to suggest that Neal select a larger case. Next Harm agreed and cited 6 points which I would agree with regarding why a larger box is better for a video editing rig.
    What are the typical goals for someone wanting a video editing PC? I would expect that most users want:
    - robust, runs and never fails
    - has incredible power; face it, video editing with AVCHD is one of the most taxing applications a PC can face today
    - quiet; who wants to be doing creative work with any server room like wind noise
    Now let me be specific where you are simply WRONG WRONG WRONG:
    You stated: "Back pressure increases in larger spaces due to natural impedance of airflow (much like with electricity traveling over distance)"
    Fact: Exactly the opposite; Back pressure decreases in larger spaces due to more room for the air to flow (much like thicker copper passes electricity with less resistance than a thin wire)
    Your stated: "Open non-compartmentalized spaces are a recipe for hot spots - areas of turbulence with higher temperatures." and then cited a server room article talking about cooling air taking the path of least resistance -- going under the floor in a server room, instead of through rack mounted servers.
    Fact: Lots of open space for large, slow moving fans to keep a video editing box cool is a great way to go
    You stated: "Full towers - in themselves - are worse for cooling"
    Fact: That is one crazy indefensible statement!
    I seriously doubt that you fully comprehend the differences and importance of thermal conductivity, heat capacity, conduction, convection, and radiation for you to make the statements that you have so far and these are the staples for discussing how heat transfer takes place.
    Note to other readers... There are lots of ways to cool components including cpus, hard drives, gpus and memory. I suspect that the noise levels brought by servers and some gamers would be totally offensive to the ambient noise level that you want in the room with you for video editing. Therefore we are left with just a few quiet alternatives: 1) lots of volume at low velocity (large cases, large fans, slow rpm), 2) liquid cooling, and 3) Cases with doors or baffles to keep the sound from a noisier solution from getting back to your ears.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • How to allow users to edit form

    Maybe this isn't a typical use for these forms, but I thought I would give it a try.  I need to create product specification forms for my designers to fill out to give to their clients.  There are standard fields in the form such as product information, pricing., etc that remain fixed. However, my designers need to be able to edit the form in order to place different product images since there doesn't seem to be an option for users to directly up images into the document(unless I missed it).   In Adobe Acrobat Pro, users can edit PDF images and content to suite their specific needs.  I need to enable this option on my form when creating them, so my designers can edit forms according to their project.  After opening a PDF Form I created in FormsCentral in Adobe Acrobat Pro, I click "Edit Text & Images," but I get a message that "This is a secured document.  Editing is not permitted." When creating a form, what do I need to do so that my documents may be edited or is it even possible with this program.
    Thanks,
    Valerie with Fresh Perspective Design & Decor

    Thank you, that worked!  I'm new to Adobe FormCentral and this is the first PDF document I've ever created.  I see how it could be beneficial to have forms submitted in the future for questionaires that our clients fill out, however, I thought this might be a useful tool for just creating a PDF document.  Maybe there is a better way to go about doing it, but thus far this is the best option I've seen yet unless you can recommend something that would be more effective.  I recently became a Creative Cloud member and I just stumbled across FormCentral while looking for a solution to creating these forms.  Normally I would have created a document like that in Microsoft Word, however, I thought this would be less time consuming for my designers to fill out. Are you aware of another way that would be more effective?  I'm afraid I am not super tech savy, but do learn new programs quite quickly.  Thanks for your assistance!

  • Three things I would like to see in Flash Catalyst.

    1. I would REALLY like a way to edit the code in Flash Catalyst. If Adobe doesn't figure this one out, they will lose a lot of business. I'm not going to buy an other product like Flex just so I can edit the code. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but once in a while, designers need to edit some code.
    2. It would be nice if I could just double click groups or layers to edit them (like in Flash an illustrator). Currently, it is very painful having to dig through groups and layers just to edit an object. This is a real time waster and it can add several hours on to a small project.
    3. Effects. I know you can add drop shadows and glows to objects in Photoshop and Illustrator, but is the a way to do these in Catalyst? That would be nice to have.
    Thoughts?

    Thank you for the feedback. Let me respond to each of your suggestions:
    1. Code editing
    We certainly recognize the value of editing code in Catalyst and recognize that designers as well as developers want to edit their code. Being about to robustly round trip code in Catalyst is a feature that we plan to address in a later version of Catalyst.
    2. Editing in place/isolation mode on groups
    I agree that this is a real time saver by making selections and editing much faster. For now, a work-around that may work for some artwork is to convert it to a custom component so that it can be edited in isolation. I recognize this is a trade off. If you convert artwork to a component then you can edit in place, but you won't be able to use the white arrow selection tool to "reach" into the component when you are not editing in place
    3. Applying effects to artwork in Catalyst
    Coming in the next beta release :-)
