FRM-40202

I have a form in dev-6i. Form contains following fields with following order.
:CODE
:NAME
:DEPARTMENT
The required property of :department field is YES.
Now on :code field there is a post-change trigger with following code.
insert into a_tab values(:code);
commit;
due to insert command i used commit; but this commit; collapses with :department field's required property YES.
I want to insert the value and I want the same order while the required property of :department is YES.
How to do it?

Can i suggest you another way ?
Write your code, i mean insert command at POST-INSERT trigger at block level, also work for you...

    Hi ayadsufyan,
    As it looks Andreas assumption of internal status change was correct. So taking into account this fact I would assume you are doing some data manipulation on the row you are unable to delete.
    What I would suggest to do is to put the following code in your KEY-DELREC trigger :
    clear_message;
    message(:system.record_status);pause;Now when you delete the record you should get the INSERT status of the record. If so it definitely means you are doing some manipulation on the record you are trying to delete. From this point on you will have to pinpoint the offending code.
    Best regards.

  • FRM-40202:field must be entered

    In R12, under Service Contracts; when navigating between the two blocks 'FRM-40202' error is thrown indicating 'Field must be enetered'.
    Duplication Instructions:
    1) Create a new service contract with 2 usage lines and add 1 counter at subline level for each usage line.
    2) Now place the cursor in the 1st usage line, navigate to Lines (tab) --> Pricing/Products (tab) --> below it shows the related subline information (counter instance).
    Lines and Subline has parent-child relationship.
    Lines is a parent block and Subline is a child block.
    3) At subline level, we have three tabs (Effectivity, Pricing, Counters), but the data belongs to a single data block.
    4) When the cursor focus is in Counters tab for the first usage line, then change the cursor focus to the next usage line at Line level; this navigation will clear the subline level details and it throws the error 'FRM-40202:field must be entered'.
    5) Error is not shown when the cursor focus is in 'Effectivity' tab of subline and changing the cursor focus to next usage line at line level is successfull.
    6) Counters tab has 1 field which is marked as 'Required' and when the error is thrown, it clears the current block and cursor focus remains in this field.
    The same navigation in 11.5.10 instance doesn't cause any issues and there is no major code change from 11.5.10 to R12 for this navigation.
    Please suggest on how to overcome the above situation.
    Thanks

    Well, I found the issue. I created a text field to display the passed parameter value (for debugging purposes) and by default it was defined as a database field. The error was due to the "txt_misc" field being part of the query but not existing in the database. I have since figured out how to get my parameter passing and data querying example to work.
    New question:
    Is there a way to debug more than one form at a time (step from one form into another called form)?
    Last but not least, are there any Oracle Forms books that resemble the "Learn Visual Basic in 21 days" type format? I'd like a reference where I can look up sample syntax for a variety of tasks like ...
    - calling a form
    - passing parameters
    - querying data
    - SDI and MDI forms and their differences

    Dear all, please I need your help in this little problem.
    I am using Forms 10g , and I am having an issue when deleting a record at runtime. It is giving "FRM-40202 Field must be entered".

  • Stacked Canvas - FRM-40202

    I having this problem with my form. I getting a FRM-40202 error when trying to run my
    form which has two stacked and 1 content canvas.I have tried hiding the canvas.
    hide_view('canvas150'); go_item('control_block.pwo_nbr');
    AURUT is the content one.
    canvas150 is the stacked canvas I don't want to see.
    AWR is the stacked canvas i would like to see.
    the data blocks are as followed:
    reports
    range1 and range 2 are associated with the canvas150.
    range 3 and range 4 are associated with the AWR canvas.
    The first problem I have is that the AURUT canvas has the canvas150 canvas on top of it
    I tried deleted the canvas150 canvas and recreated it but it is still on top.of the content one and I also have a stacked canvas(canvas150) in my form.
    I think that my form is corrupt. How can I fixed this problem without redoing the whole form? I tried created a contol_block and assigning the items to the control_block in my program unit. But I still see canvas150. I getting frm-40202 error. What I have read about this error is that a field in my canvas150 needs to be filled in before it will allowed me to continue to the next canvas(AWR). I don't even want to see canvas150 while I processing the items on AWR. I'm lost as to what i can do to fixed this problem. If I changed the field in question in canvas150 to "NOT REQUIRED" my form crashes.
    I didn't have this problem with my first stacked canvas. Introducing my second stacked canvas has cause this problem.
    Thanking in advanced

    If I changed the field in question in canvas150 to "NOT REQUIRED" my form crashes.This should not happen. What happens when it crashes? Is there an error message when the crash occurs?

  • FRM-40202 and mandatory items on a multi-tab canvas

    Hi all !
    Short technical question for you guys : let's say that I have datablock whose fields are displayed on different tabs of a same tab canvas. Now, let's say that two fields of this datablock are defined as mandatory : one on the first tab, the other on the last.
    My problem is that my form doesn't behave correctly :
    Good behavior -> After creating a record on the first tab without filling the mandatory record of the last tab, if I try to create a new record => I get a FRM-40202 error, and Forms forces me to fill the mandatory field of the last tab. Nice.
    Bad behavior -> After creating a record on the first tab, I try to go to the last tab by clicking the appropriate tag name in order to fill the mandadory field => I get a FRM-40202, and Forms leaves me on the first tab, unable to fill in my record properly. I thought that as long as I wasn't leaving my record, I wasn't supposed to get a FRM-40202 error...
    How would you deal with this kind of error ? How can I get this kind of error while not leaving the record ?
    Thanks for your ideas and your help

  • Non DB item in a base table block, gives frm-40202 error.

    Dear All,
    We are using forms6i as a front end. To simulate the error, consider the following example.
    1.Create a multirecord emp block.
    2.Add a non database item in the base table block.
    3.Assign any value to the non database item, in the when new record instance trigger.
    4.When i say F7 or F8, my block asking me like, field must be entered. Which means, my record status changed to Insert. But there is no change in base table record, since i modified only in the non base table item.
    Please validate, whether i am doing anything wrong in my technique.
    Regards,
    Balaji

    If you have a value to be used as the default value then you can use "Initial Value" property in the item level for the Non Database Item. If you do this it wont give you any problem during the query. If you create a new record then the value which you have put as the default will come automatically.

  • Locating Oracle Forms Error Messages File to Load into Table

    I would like to create a procedure to suppress and replace Form errors and messages via ON-ERROR and ON-MESSAGE triggers.
    Is there a file that I can load the ERROR Messages from using SQLLDR?
    I have loaded the Oracle error file, $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/mesg/oraus.msg as identified by Tom Kyte in the following link,

    FRM-40202: Field must be entered

  • Problem with a primary key when creating a new record in Forms

    My table has a field - MDD_KEY - that is a primary key. It is updated from a sequence with a before-insert database trigger. I know this works properly as the primary key was accurately populated when I inserted 1433 records.
    In Forms 6, I have a form based on that table. I have set the mdd_key as a hidden field because I assume it will be entered by the before-insert trigger. However, when I enter data into the table, and then try to save it, I get a FRM-40202: Field must be entered. - followed by - FRM-40222: Disabled item MDD_KEY failed validation.
    If I set DATA Required to no, when I try to save I get an FRM-40600: Record has already been inserted - but no such record exists in the database. I know this record is unique and does NOT exist because I deliberately made it up.
    In the property palatte, the attributes of the field are:
    DATA Data Type Number
    Required Yes
    DATABASE Database Item Yes
    Primary Key Yes
    Query Only No
    Query Allowed Yes
    Query Length 0
    Insert Allowed Yes
    Update Allowed Yes
    Update Only if Null No
    Lock Record No
    I assume that my problem is that with a new record, the form wants to see the MDD_KEY populated before it saves - but that isn't going to happen until the before insert trigger fires in the database. I assume I have to populate that field within forms, but how do I do that without messing up the database trigger/sequence? I will have to load more data directly into the database - so I need the database trigger in place.
    I have not used primary keys before so I am more than a little bit confused about how and when it should be populated when a new record is created in Forms.
    Any help would be appreciated as I cannot enter new data into my form (works well with existing data).
    Thanks
    Glenn

  • Form is not working after table refresh

    I've made a form and have added pre-insert trigger for the block. And the form is working perfectly fine with no issues.
    Two new columns have been added to the table and have to be added to the form now.
    I opened the data block wizard of the form and did a refresh of the table to get the two columns. After I pressed the "refresh" and then tried to run the form(but did not add new columns), the pre-insert trigger fails and starts throwing me an error that value has to be entered.(FRM:40202)
    After further analysis I also found out that there was null value being passed into another item. Actually when I refresh the Datablock wizard I can see this column on the left hand side than being present on the right hand side.
    Kindly if you could help on the same.

    Hi Vidhya
    pre-insert trigger fails and starts throwing me an error that value has to be entered.(FRM:40202)that's FRM-40202 (Field Must be entered)
    pls make sure any new db column that's defined as NOT NULL in the table that u r trying to insert in is pre-insert has an insert statment.; must have a value.
    the main issue here is ur table u r trying to insert in ; it has nothing to do with the form wizard's item on the left or the right hand side.
    Hope this helps...

  • Navigation Problem in forms 10.1.2.0.2 !!!

    Hi All,
    when we create relation between master and child block then getting problem in navigation.
    i assume that you have form with two block with relation and data then execute query then
    start following step
    0) make sure you set required = true for first navigation item of child block
    1) you are in child block make some change on any item and make your cursor must not be on first navigation item.
    3) commit the form
    2) then click on master block and here make sure you are clicking on non current record.
    From
    Chirag Patel
    From

    Thanks Frank,
    Yes Frank please follow the steps.
    this is error explanation :
    I have debug many times !!!
    actually it is not error but funny behaviour !!
    when you click on parent block on diffrent record then validataion trigger of first item of child block will fire. I do not why it is happening !!!
    I removed the validation trigger and did required=true for first navaigation item of child block then also it's behaving funny.
    This are the steps.
    1) create form with parent and child block and make relation ship
    2) insure that you put 2 record in parent and 2-2 recors in child for each parent record.
    3) insure that your first navigation item of child block has required property = true
    4) run your form fresh
    5) from parent bloc execute query ( I hope child block is populate some records)
    6) click on any record of child block and make changes
    7) then commit your form.
    now fun will start
    8) click on parent block on any record which has child records and non current record.
    9) then form should populate details for child instead of it behaves different as follows
    you will find FRM-40202 : Field must be entered
    your cussor will remian in child block;
    your record will not change in parent block.
    and child block will remail blank.
    by debugging I found that problem is coming from this code of <Clear_All_Master_Details> procedure
    -- Put cursor back where it started
    IF :System.Cursor_Item <> startitm THEN
    Go_Item(startitm);
    Check_Package_Failure;
    END IF;
    when I remove this line
    Go_Item(startitm);
    then my problem is solved
    But I do not know what is the other impact can be possible by removing this.
    Hello Frank
    I hope you will catch this error by this example.

  • Error "field required" in master-detail form with FORMS 10G!!

    I have a Master-Detail Form.
    When the cursor stay in detail block and i chage the master record with the mouse, clicking in scroll bar, i get error "field required".
    In Forms 6i, works fine!!

    Master block has more than one record displayed. When I click on any item in detail (except first one) and then click on different master record (return navigation to master block, but not current record) I have FRM-40202: Field must be entered on first item in detail block.
    I found that reason is this part of clear_all_master_details procedure (automatically created by Oracle Forms):
    IF :System.Cursor_Item <> startitm THEN
    Go_Item(startitm);
    Check_Package_Failure;
    END IF;
    Does any have same experience?
    Is it Oracle bug or I am missing something?

  • Calendar forms10g: doesn't display, 'cause items are required in the record

    in the record I have items with the required property set to yes.
    I Display the Calendar on Key-ListVal and When-Mouse-DoubleClick triggers.
    when the triggers are fired, oracle shows me the following error FRM 40202 Field must be entered. and I can't enter the date.
    That's why the record loses the focus when the calendar shows up.
    how I can keep my items with the required property set to yes, without having the frm 40202 error.
    Steve

    Instead of using a different block for the calendar, you could create a separate fmb and use CALL_FORM and a GLOBAL to show the calendar and intercat with it. This way, the record will not loose focus and you won't get the error.
