FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view

Hi all!
I have a form based on a view and I want to get rid off this message.
I set the properties blocks query only but it still doesn't work.
Does someone met with this situation?
Many thanks!

Hello
I've just been messing about with a similar problem. Basically, I have a view that involves a join across two tables, I have a data block in my form that's based on the view, and I've written an INSTEAD OF trigger to insert/update/delete from the two tables.
I was getting the error message 'Cannot insert or update data in a view', and it turned out that the error was happening because the join column between the two tables was the primary key on one of the tables, but the corresponding column on the join table had no unique key on it. This meant that Oracle couldn't establish a one-to-one relationship between rows in the view and rows in the underlying tables. The column on the join table was in fact unique on that table, and adding a unique constraint on that column in the database cured the problem.
Hope that's of use.
regards
Andrew

This isn't a JSP question, it better belongs in the JavaProgramming, or JDBC forums.
But the problem is because the updateDate method uses a java.sql.Date object and you are giving it a java.util.Date object. You have to convert from java.util.Date to java.sql.Date. See: [the api for java.sql.Date|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/sql/Date.html] .

  • A trigger that changes an insert into an update?

This is probably a quite unusual question, but is it possible to create a trigger that changes an insert into an update?
So, if someone tries to do something like this:
    INSERT INTO SOME_TABLE (column1, column2, column3) VALUES (value1, value2, value3);
...the trigger is able to change it into:
    UPDATE SOME_TABLE column1=value1, column2=value2, column3=value3 WHERE ID=1;
    Can it be done?

    Hi,
You can do things like that in an INSTEAD OF INSERT trigger.
See the PL/SQL manual for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28370/create_trigger.htm#sthref2864
INSTEAD of triggers only work on views. Of course, you can create a view as "SELECT * FROM some_table" just so you can use an INSTEAD OF trigger.

  • Update data from a view

    Hi,
trying to update data from a view with:
    - Company (table)
    - Products (table)
In a form, the user wants to update
    e.g: both products.product_name and Company.company_name.
Is there a way to update a view records built on 2 tables ?
Any idea will be really appreciated
    Thks

    On point 6:
    Assumption:
    - Company_id is PK of pcs.Company and FK in pcs.individuals
    - It should be feed by sequence (v_pcs_comp_id_seq)
Now how can i insert the same value for company_id (current.v_pcs_comp_id_seq) in both pcs_companies and pcs_individuals ? I've tested it in the above INSTEAD OF Trigger. It failed.
    Thks for any advice,

Yeah - not really. Sorry - but you will need to get it fixed so you can back it up. You are going to want to Restore your new iPhone from that backup when you get it, so it will really be worth it.
As soon as you get your new iPhone, set up automatic iCloud backups, or if you don't have Wifi, then it is really important to get into the habit of backing your device up weekly to iTunes.
    Best of luck!

  • Can select, but cannot insert into oracle tables using php.

I am having trouble inserting data into a tables in oracle using PHP. I can insert into the tables using baninst1, but nothing else. I can't even insert using the tables' owner. Every time I try I get the ORA-00492 error of table or view does not exist. However, I can run a select statement just fine. So far, baninst1 is the only user that can actually do inserts. I've triple checked all the table grants and everything is fine. Also, I can copy/paste the exact insert statement into SQL*Plus and it works with the correct user. It doesn't have to be baninst1. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried putting the table name in quotes, adding the schema name to the table, checking public synonyms, but everything appears to be ok. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions others may have.
I'm using PHP 5.2.3 with an oracle 9i DB.

Here is the code that doesn't work. It works only with baninst1, no other username will work and all I do is change the my_username/my_password to something different. This is one example function where I try to do an insert, but it doesn't work on any of the tables I try.
    Thanks for looking.

  • JSP cannot Insert into MYSQL

hi, i have a jsp code which can successfully return results from MySQL database. But once i change the SQL statement from a select statement to a insert statement, it does not add in a new row in the database. It has no error while compiling but it also appear nothing on the screen when being run. Has the problem got to do with the user privilages of MySQL? thanks.

That all might be good and well but I think the very important thing to note here is what the first reply stated.
If you are going to run an Insert sql statement you need to use the executeUpdate() method. You also use this function for Updates and Delete SQL statements.
Only Select statements that return a recordset use the executeQuery() method. The executeUpdate() method returns an interger that reflects the number of rows affected by the SQL statement.
Like when you insert 1 row the return value of the executeUpdate method will be one. You can accordingly check this returned value to see if the operation ran successfully. A return value of 0 means that now rows where inserted.
That is my 2c worth. I hope it helped some.

  • Urgent : Performance Issue DELETE , INSERT INTO SELECT, UPDATE

    Hi,
NEED ASSISTANCE TO OPTIMIZE THE INSERT STATEMENT (insert into select):
    =================================================
    We have a report.
As per current design following steps are used to populate the custom table whcih is used for reporting purpose:
    1) DELETE all the recods from the custom table XXX_TEMP_REP.
    2) INSERT records in custom table XXX_TEMP_REP (Assume all the records related to type A)
    using
    INSERT..... INTO..... SELECT.....
    statement.
    3) Update records in XXX_TEMP_REP
using some custom logic for the records populated .
    4) INSERT records in custom table XXX_TEMP_REP (Records related to type B)
    using
    INSERT..... INTO..... SELECT.....
    statement.
Stats gathered related to Insert statement are:

  • Want to update data in a view based on multiple tables

    Hi
I am facing a problem i want to update data in tables using a view. As that view is based on multiple tables so i am unable to update data. i came to know we can update table from view only if view is based on single table. so if anyone knows any alternative please let me know.
    Thanx
    Devinder

    Devinder,
The table can be updated through a view based on multiple tables, if and only if the table is a "key preserved" table. Rather than explaining myself, i avoided the burden of typing by finding the material in Oracle Docs and pasting it for you :-)
If you want a join view to be updatable, all of the following conditions must be
    true:
    1. The DML statement must affect only one table underlying the join.
    2. For an INSERT statement, the view must not be created WITH CHECK
OPTION, and all columns into which values are inserted must come from a
key-preserved table. A key-preserved table in one for which every primary
key or unique key value in the base table is also unique in the join view.
    3. For an UPDATE statement, all columns updated must be extracted from a
key-preserved table. If the view was created WITH CHECK OPTION, join
columns and columns taken from tables that are referenced more than once
in the view must be shielded from UPDATE.
    4. For a DELETE statement, the join can have one and only one key-preserved
table. That table can appear more than once in the join, unless the view was
    created WITH CHECK OPTION.

  • Cannot log into CC updater

I keep getting a message that I've been signed out of my account but when I try to sign-in, the same message appears.  I tried to delete the database as instructed by your help directions, but I cannot do that either - keeps saying it is being used by another program even though nothing is open.  How can I update my apps if I cannot get my updater to open?

    Hi Kungfuontoast,
    Rename the opm.db file.
Close the Creative Cloud application if it's running.
    Navigate to the OOBE folder.
    Windows: [System drive]:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
    Mac OS: /User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder
Rename the opm.db file to opm_old.db
    Launch Creative Cloud
Make sure that you unhide the hidden files of your computer or else you will not fir "AppData" folder.
Do let me knew if it worked or not.

  • Can not update data in table view

When i open a table from a connection in the connection navigator i can not alter the data in it... I can only add new rows. Is there a setting so i can alter the data?
My user has update rights because when i write my own update statement and execute it, it works fine.

I found the issue... You can do it in 10g but you have to define a PK on the table, otherwhise he does not know what row to update. When i added a PK i could edit the data in Jdev in data view.

  • Frm-40602

    Hi,
I am using views to create forms in 9i. When my form is a single block form then using on lock trigger
    LOCK TABLE abc
    IN ROW SHARE MODE;
lets me do an insert update or delete on the view
but when i am using a detail block based on another view cde (which is based on table rtf).
rtf being a detail of xyz that is the table on which abc is based on
it wont let me do any insert update or delete i have required permissions on both the tables and corresponding views. Iam writing on lock triggers for both the tables
    LOCK TABLE abc
    IN ROW SHARE MODE;
    LOCK TABLE rtf
    IN ROW SHARE MODE;
    How to resolve.
    Regards,
    Sumiat

It would be nice is you would give us the text corresponding to the error number:
FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view.
Somehow, I don't think the lock_table has anything to do with this message or updating a view.

  • FRM 40602 and Patch Set 9

We have a long (and potentially very boring) history of not being able to install patch sets for Developer Forms on our systems because of various bugs.
The last one to cause a problem was FRM 40602 Cannot insert or update data in a view which was first found in patch set 7. (Bug number was 1996710). This was still there in 8 and meant to be fixed in 9.
Support are looking at the problem but initial indications are that the bug has not been fixed - still waiting for confirmation.
My question is whether anyone else has sen this in PS9 - there has been a forum on Metalink stating this but I have not seen anything else.

We're using XP and have successfully been running Forms and Reports Runtime 6.0.17.1 and 6.0.17.0 for the past 3 or 4 months. However, just yesterday we came across this error only 1 system out of 40+ machines that run an application that uses both Forms & Reports R/T. I have spent around 8 hours today attempting to repair the problem without success. Yet when I go to another machine with the identical install and build, I can run the app without any problems under the same user id as on the machine that does not work. Our exact error that pops up is:
FRM-40602 Cannot insert into or update data in a view. field: LM_XREF.XREF_ENTITY_TYPE
After reading the message I am making this statement to, I never new there was a bug. I did a test with version 6.0.11.x before applying the patch and got it to work, but there is another bug in there that is repaired in version 6.0.13.x and re-appears in ver 6.0.17.1, so I want to apply the patches, but I don't, if you know what I mean. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem? If so, I could use the help and hopefully others can benefit from this as well.
I have rebuilt the image and used various Oracle R/T, Net 8, ODBC, and SQL Net configurations but this one stumps me! $0+ machines working perfectly good and 1 does not, all the same build, with all the same Oracle middleware... I'm almost starting to think a wierd hardware problem.
    Cheers,
