Frm-40602

Hi,
I am using views to create forms in 9i. When my form is a single block form then using on lock trigger
LOCK TABLE abc
IN ROW SHARE MODE;
lets me do an insert update or delete on the view
but when i am using a detail block based on another view cde (which is based on table rtf).
rtf being a detail of xyz that is the table on which abc is based on
it wont let me do any insert update or delete i have required permissions on both the tables and corresponding views. Iam writing on lock triggers for both the tables
LOCK TABLE abc
IN ROW SHARE MODE;
LOCK TABLE rtf
IN ROW SHARE MODE;
How to resolve.
Regards,
Sumiat

It would be nice is you would give us the text corresponding to the error number:
FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view.
Somehow, I don't think the lock_table has anything to do with this message or updating a view.

  • Updateable View - FRM-40602

If I have a view based on a simple join (eg emp and dept) and base a block on this view, what do I need to do, to make it updateable?
I was under the impression that if there was an INSTEAD OF trigger on the view then the forms would allow me to update it, but I get the error FRM-40602 : Cannot update a view.
Do I need to write on-lock, on-update etc triggers in forms and if so why bother with the instead of triggers?
    Thanks for your help

    Some suggestions :
    - Can you insert/update the view with SQL*Plus?
    - display the error from the Help menu
    - Did you set the block properties like the following?
    Enforce Primary Key : No
    Query Allowed : Yes
Query Data Source Name: [name of the view]
    Insert Allowed : Yes
    Update Allowed : Yes
    Delete Allowed : Yes
    Key Mode : Unique
    hope it helps

  • FRM 40602 and Patch Set 9

We have a long (and potentially very boring) history of not being able to install patch sets for Developer Forms on our systems because of various bugs.
The last one to cause a problem was FRM 40602 Cannot insert or update data in a view which was first found in patch set 7. (Bug number was 1996710). This was still there in 8 and meant to be fixed in 9.
Support are looking at the problem but initial indications are that the bug has not been fixed - still waiting for confirmation.
My question is whether anyone else has sen this in PS9 - there has been a forum on Metalink stating this but I have not seen anything else.

We're using XP and have successfully been running Forms and Reports Runtime 6.0.17.1 and 6.0.17.0 for the past 3 or 4 months. However, just yesterday we came across this error only 1 system out of 40+ machines that run an application that uses both Forms & Reports R/T. I have spent around 8 hours today attempting to repair the problem without success. Yet when I go to another machine with the identical install and build, I can run the app without any problems under the same user id as on the machine that does not work. Our exact error that pops up is:
FRM-40602 Cannot insert into or update data in a view. field: LM_XREF.XREF_ENTITY_TYPE
After reading the message I am making this statement to, I never new there was a bug. I did a test with version 6.0.11.x before applying the patch and got it to work, but there is another bug in there that is repaired in version 6.0.13.x and re-appears in ver 6.0.17.1, so I want to apply the patches, but I don't, if you know what I mean. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem? If so, I could use the help and hopefully others can benefit from this as well.
I have rebuilt the image and used various Oracle R/T, Net 8, ODBC, and SQL Net configurations but this one stumps me! $0+ machines working perfectly good and 1 does not, all the same build, with all the same Oracle middleware... I'm almost starting to think a wierd hardware problem.
    Cheers,

  • FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view

    Hi all!
I have a form based on a view and I want to get rid off this message.
I set the properties blocks query only but it still doesn't work.
Does someone met with this situation?
    Many thanks!

    Hello
I've just been messing about with a similar problem. Basically, I have a view that involves a join across two tables, I have a data block in my form that's based on the view, and I've written an INSTEAD OF trigger to insert/update/delete from the two tables.
I was getting the error message 'Cannot insert or update data in a view', and it turned out that the error was happening because the join column between the two tables was the primary key on one of the tables, but the corresponding column on the join table had no unique key on it. This meant that Oracle couldn't establish a one-to-one relationship between rows in the view and rows in the underlying tables. The column on the join table was in fact unique on that table, and adding a unique constraint on that column in the database cured the problem.
    Hope that's of use.

  • View based form updation in 6i and 10g forms.

    Hi All,
I am facing a strange problem.
I created a form based on a view, which is based on a single table. i made a copy of the form and converted it to 10g.
When running in 6i, i can update the data through forms. But in 10g, its showing FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view.
Can anyone tell what is wrong?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manu.

    hi Manu
How to insert new record or update existing record using a complex view?
to make dml against a complex view with instead of triggers a reality. There should be no need to write an on-update trigger in your form. Indeed, the reason for a view and instead-of-trigger on that view is so that you do not require additional coding in your form.
    1) you need the instead-of-trigger on the view (confirm it is there)
    2) you need to change the locking mode in the form for the block based on your view so that it uses the logical key for locking purposes. There is a lock mode setting somewhere in the block properties page, find it, understand the differences and pick the righ tone (I forget at this moment which on it is, try them all if necessary).
    3) #2 will involve selecting those fields that map to the business identifier/primary key you want to you use for finding rows. You need to visit each field's property page and set the appropriate attribute to indicate that is is part of the key used to find rows. It is there on the properties page but not having forms available at the moment I cannot give you the property name. You will have to do a little exploring to find it.
If you do these things, the error should go away and the view become updatable via oracle forms without the need to write any on-update trigger.
Do some testing at the database level first. Make sure you can update the view directly via sqlplus first with the instead-of-trigger before you attempt it in the form. This will ensure that your issue is forms related and not database related. This is an important step because the database will return a similar error to what you have reported if the instead-of-trigger does not exist on the view.

  • How to remove a oracle form from read only format

I need to personalize an Oracle form for one responsibility. But when i open through that responsibility, it is opening in read only format. When i open the same form through super user responsibility, then it is opening up-datable format. I tried different options like 'System Profiles- HR Query only to 'NO'', 'Removing Query-Only'. but still i can open it only in read only format where i need to make some fields up-datable.
    Any suggestions please?

    Hi All,
I have an Standard E-Business Suite screen.
This is the Transaction Overview Screen, which is in Read-Only Mode.
The Value of the unit price is rounded on 2 decimal.
We tried to change this with Perzonilization, but the the error is coming up
"FRM-40602: Cannot insert into or update data in a view"
    What are we doing wrong.
    Thanks for your support.

and i want to use this view in oracle form developer 6i
when i try to insert a new record in the view i have this error message frm-40602
in the database i have wire the instead of trigger

  • Instead of trigger & forms

    Using Oracle 8.0.5 and
    Forms 5.0.6.8.0
I created a view with an instead of trigger and I can insert rows using SQL.
When i create a form with a block based on the view and I try to update a row, the form returns the error "FRM-40602 cannot insert or update data in a view"
If I try to enter data in an item for insert, I get the error "FRM-40200 field is protected against update"
All the block and item properties seem to be set correctly for insert and update.
Why can't I insert or update?

I think you want to post this question to the Developer 6.0 forum. This discussion forum is for JDeveloper, a different product.

  • View-Update in forms with Instead-Of trigger

I has created a view and an Instead-Of trigger on that view.
Now, I want to update this view in FORMS 6. I am unable to update this view and getting error FRM-40602.
Is there any way to update this view updatable in FORMS6 or FORMS6 has not this feature?

    Hi,
This has been acknowledged by Oracle as bug earlier. The work-around for this is as follows:
    1. Create table 1
    2. Create table 2
    3. Create view
    4. Create instead of insert trigger on view
    5. Create instead of update trigger on view
    6. Now, in the forms, go to the Block property
    7. Look for the 'Key mode' property. By default it is 'Automatic'. Set it to Updateable (If your database design supports updating primary keys) or Unique (preferable).
    8. Now run the form. It should work.
    All the best.

  • Updatable View as data block source - can't get to work

I have created a simple form with one data block based on an updatable view, but it doesn't work properly after the form executes a query.
I can use DML on this view using SQL*Plus and it works as it should.
DML works in the form too, but only until I execute a query, after that I get the "FRM-40602: cannot insert into or update a view" error each time I try an insert, update, or delete.
This is repeated for each runtime of the form. I have set the "query only" property to yes for the non-DMLable item from the view so that isn't part of the problem. This is an example out of "Developer Advance Forms and Reports (page 112) - Oracle Press" so it should work. There is nothing else (code, triggers, etc...) in this module besides the one data block.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks. Bill Brosnan.

I have had the same issue and had to go through Oracle Support to get it working.
First of all make sure that you have a recent patch installed (patch 9 as being the latest one available).
Second, set in the data block the property key mode to updatable and the property primary key to yes for one item of the data block. (this is bug 1561423)
Make sure that you only modify those columns that are updateable.
Quite a large number of bugs have been reported on the concept of updatable views and the installation of a recent patch will most definitely get you working again.
    This functionality does work !
    Goodluck,

  • Ctrl-C in Forms 4.5 applications

Mostly, it's possible to copy (Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) values from one place to another, in case of writeable or read-only field.
Unfortunately, in some Forms modules this doesn't work.
Ctrl-C seems to make a change in the current field, so we get message like FRM-40602 or FRM-40200 in case of read-only fields.
Is it possible to enable or disable copy/paste functionality in Oracle Forms 4.5 modules or applications?
Why does it work in some modules and in others do not?
    Thanks in advance

    end if;
Please give me valuable inputs on this issue.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    your package " app_special" does a call to "execute_trigger('SPECIAL20');" ,
but there is no trigger with this name in your form. ( perhaps an Menu-item exists with this name.)
    Lock for "execute_trigger" in:
    app_special.instantiate('SPECIAL20', 'View Order Report');
