Froyo 3G Issue?

I just finished reading 2 pages of users experiencing 3G issues after updating to 2.2 over at androidforums dot com (click here). Is anyone here experiencing 3G problems? I looked around and didn't find this in the forums.
Anyway, users are reporting that the 3G radio is not turning on after rebooting. I began experiencing this issue last night, and the problem has continued today. If I reboot the phone, it will work again -- until I reboot again. It seems to be a software issue with Froyo, but some think it's a problem with VZ's towers.
I tried reset, hard reset, and factory reset. None have corrected the problem, however, some mention that toggling the airplane mode fixes the problem temporarily in order to avoid a hard reset. That's fine, but I would like to know if there is a real fix that doesn't require me "working around" a software/network problem. Others mention calling *228 with temporary success, but nothing that actually resolves the issue beyond the next reboot.
I don't want to call VZ customer service if I'm going to have to wait 30 minutes to talk with a tech. It seems it might take that long with all of the Froyo issues. I also don't want to just get a refurb if the same issue will show up again (as the androidforum suggests is already happening).
Any news? thoughts? fixes?

If it's rare, why are there so many talking about it at android forums? Or do you mean it's rare on YOUR phone?
And how many DROID'S have been sold out of the maybe 250 posts (ACROSS ALL BOARDS) complaining about it?  1-3 million? Forums are made for complaining not saying all is working fine.
Y'all see a complaint from someone and immediately it is a BUG and poorly written program, EVERYONE HAS THE ISSUE. It is called the placebo effect.
Yes phones do crazy things, it is sensitive electronic device.

I could get my Fascinate to update at all since I owned it.  Even the techies at Verizon could not get it to update.  On saturday(3/12) they told me that they had to replace my phone before had hardware issues from the get go!  How many phones would be exposed to replacement if the froyo was pushed to them!!!!!

There were a bunch of phones that came from Samsung that would not update OTA correctly. Verizon has a list of the ESN's that were affected, mine was 1 of them.
A potential Froyo update would have nothing to do with this issue, but it is always a concern with OTA, does it cause more damage than it helps... That's why they need to test it before sending it out. Look at the result they had with AT&T and the Froyo update... They had to pull it from the servers because of issues....

  • ED04/Froyo update issues

After reading about the fix for missed incoming calls, I checked System Updates with the intention of downloading ED04. Instead I received a message that an update was available but it was the massive 2.2 Froyo update, not the smaller ED04. Because I was unable to update to Froyo OTA (kept getting the update server unavailable error message), an employee at the local Verizon store pushed it directly to my phone. I'm guessing that means it somehow hasn't registered with the Verizon server and I'm being directed to download it again. No way I want to go that route. Any suggestions about how to correct this?

    bluestar,
You will continue to get the download message until you go through the steps to download the software update to your Fascinate.
You can find the steps here http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/samsung_fascinate_instructions.pdf
You will need to go through to complete 2.2 Froyo update.
If you click this link http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/samsung_fascinate.pdf you will see the benefits of installing the complete update.

  • Yet another froyo update issue

OK, so I have had my phone plugged in and charging since 8:30 am. Since the update my phone won't totally charge...AND the LED light is now flashing red and green. Before when it was plugged in it was red and when it is totally charged it would go green.  Any suggestions or thoughts?

Maybe it is just my device, but I have noticed when the standard battery was in my phone, and plugged up to my PC thru an old BlackBerry USB cord, it never charged, but when I went home and used the charger that came with the phone and put in the extended battery, it charged much faster ...
I remember way back when I had a LG Dare that only the charger that came with the phone would work although I had chargers from other devices that would fit the charging slot.
Again, it may be just my device, but it appears now to only charge with the delivered charger ...

  • 2.2 UPDATE FAILED

I received the system update message yesterday around 11:00 a.m.  I was excited to finally get Froyo on my Incredible so I proceeded with the installation.  The installation attempted to start and then a message came up regarding my SD Card.  The bottom line is the update never completed and when I go into System Updates it says my phone is up to date, but I'm still running Android 2.1-update 1. I even tried rebooting my phone without the SD Card but the update is no longer there.
I called Tech Support and they had me do *228 to verify my software version.  The tech also recommended that I DO NOT install the update until some of the issues are resolved.  That was kind of a surprise as I've read several positive reviews of the 2.2 update.  I also tried to go into the System Updater and hit the Clear Cache button which is what was recommended in another post, but my cache didn't have any info in it so the clear cache button wasn't selectable.
My question is will the OTA update be resent or was that my only chance to install it?
    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Try my fix here:
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-Incredible-by-HTC/Froyo-Update-Issues-POSSIBLE-SOLUTION/m-p/270343/highlight/true#M10586
Basically, just clear the cache on System Update under Applications.

  • Minimize Droid X Issues After Froyo Update....

This has been verified as being the best way to stop a number of the issues that has developed after doing Froyo update, the system seem to keep the 2.1 app and settings during installation process and this seems to cause a number of incompatible issues with a number of devices.... Follow this process after completing Froyo Update to avoid problems..
Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.
    1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy
    2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone
    3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information
    4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"
    5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.
This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

Is there a point where you will want to turn this back on?
Yes, your contacts is saved on Google's account and they do not restore to device until you log into your Google account. The phone uses this information to verify your device for person information.
I didnt place the step to run Backup Assistant and place backup password, this will complete the restoring process of contacts.. And about the couple of a contacts not backed up mean that the backup app wasnt run after contacts being added, its wise to always run Backup Assistant as soon as you change or add a contact.

I don't recall explicitly "accepting" this 2.2 "Froyo" update.
I woke up one morning and found it installed on my DroidX.
I was on a business trip with 50% battery left when it occurred.
That was certainly not the time I wanted to do a major update.
That issue aside, I noticed my phone under 2.2 would frequently freeze for about 15 seconds when I was doing basic things.
I did a soft reset (took battery out for a while), and the issue seems to have gone away.
My "Backup my data" setting was (had always been?) unchecked, so I don't plan on doing a hard reset.
You are not being forced to do a Factory Reset but since the update has been released a number of user reported issues with device and a large amount of their issue was coming from settings and apps from 2.1 not being removed during update process and this process has resolved a number of users issues and from the last part of your post you are having similar issues.  But a hard reset is your decision.
Also the "Backup my Data" isn't the issue completely, its the Auto Restore option, it runs at startup automatically if checked or not, this is why the instruction reported to enable "Backup my Data"and then disable "Auto Restore" option.

  • Droid X Froyo issues

Ever since the 2.2 update, I have had two(2) major issues:
    1. Every app. I use which has a designated home screen (Evernote, Browser, Market, etc.) automatically starts not on the home screen, but on the last screen viewed when restarted.
I want to start these programs on their home screens. That is where my search options are.
    2. The GPS toggle widget, before the update, would just toggle the GPS on/off. Now, it toggles wireless networks and assisted GPS on/off as well.
I don't want to have to go to my location and security settings every time an app. needs location access, and I don't want the GPS draining my battery because I didn't turn it off.
Any suggestions on how to fix these issues?

Have you tried removing the battery, waiting a few seconds. Then replace the battery and restart? If this doesn't help, you might, unfortunately, try to do a factory reset. The first method usually takes care of most problems without you loosing data. The second removes all data, including contacts, but takes care of all problems, unless it's hardware connected. If you do have to do a factory reset, uncheck the backup. If there is a software problem, if you backup, you'll be backing up the problems as well. Good luck.

  • Another New issue since the Froyo update

I'm not sure if anyone esle is getting this but I have noticed since the update that if i answer a call or amin my email app for a period of time when i exit back to teh home screen it takes 10 -15 seconds for my icons to show back up on the screen.

Yes I have also noticed this as a problem.

  • Can no longer recommend Fascinate due to non-support of issues -  class action time?

I loved my Fascinate when I got it, but the failure of Verizon to promptly resolve KNOWN software issues with known-to-Verizon solutions constitutes something dangerously close to fraud.  Like others, I was promised a prompt upgrade to Froyo by a Verizon rep when I bought the phone.  Like others. my GPS performance is terrible, with frequent delays of 10 minutes to infinity to achieve a location lock.  Like others, I let my 30 day return expire because I was promised a software fix was coming out Real Soon Now, so now I am screwed.
The issue is NOT the delayed Froyo update, the issue is that the phone does not function as promised by Verizon when sold.  Knowing sale of a defective product that does not meet its advertised features is fraudulent under the commercial code in any state of the union.
Therefore I am doing some of the few things I can do under the circumstances:
First of all, new buyers are warned that the phone DOES NOT WORK as advertised in many cases due to software issues with GPS, email push, and other features.  If you buy it, don't expect it to work.  If you are promised otherwise by a Verizon store or rep, be warned that the promises are empty.  Be warned that the Verizon implementation of Bing en lieu of Google search and other disruptions of the base Google services makes the phone almost unusable compared to a true Android environment such as that on certain other Android phones and providers.  Bing is terrible. VZNavigator is a rip off (and terrible).  If you are a lawyer interested in a class action against Verizon related to thi sphone be aware that you should have plenty of interested parties.  Personally I would like my service fees waved for the period from September when I bought the phone through whenever-they-actually-make-it-work with debugged software.  It is clear that engineering KNOWS how to make the GPS work even without a full Froyo update - they just haven't released a patch.
I wish I could love this phone - but I can't recommend it any more to any one for any reason until Samsung/Verizon fix the software and de-Bing and de-bloat an otherwise excellent piece of hardware.  This is EXACTLY what Apple got right, and that Verizon has wrong.  A pox on them and their bloatware and BIng and broken search functions.  It's like a bad dream.  Swapping the hardware out for another Fasicinate won't fix it.  I'm stuck.

Do I actually expect to see a suit?  No, not really.  But, message reads on the first page of the Fascinate forum suggest that as of now at least 4000 potential Fascinate owners may have received enough reasons to consider either a different phone or a different carrier.  Verizon execs might have a look over the fence at IPhone land, where there is a mob wielding torches and pitch forks that loves their iPhones (but hates ATT for the poor service experience).  Provide even average service and you build brand loyalty that overcomes almost any foul up.  Give your customers good reasons to hate you, and they surely will.
Today I drove a 30 mile round trip with a fresh A-GPS almanac and never got GPS located closer than 1100 yards.  If it ever DOES synch, it will be good to 10 ft.  and stay locked until I go indoors.  If.  The Bluetooth refused to connect (again).  Works great WHEN it actually occasionally works though.  The hardware can do it.  The software is a bad joke.  Is is Samsung's fault?  Maybe.  Could Verizon provide a timely fix by internal or Samsung resources? Definitely. Samsung has fixed these issues for other markets long ago.   The shame is that it takes what could be a great experience and sours it all.  It's not about Froyo, it's about having basic features that work.  While some of thse phones work perfectly, some combination of hardware and software issues means that too many customers did not receive what the paid for, and they have good reason to be angry with Verizon for the poor experience and callous treatment.

  • HTC Weather App not updating (diff issue-sync issue)

Okay so let start off by saying I have the 2.2 Froyo Software.
If you add a widget, theres is a widget called "sync all"; whether it is a new one from 2.2 I dont know but lets move on.  I have that widget on one of my screens.  Periodically I will hit that sync button because I refuse to have it enabled all the time for it to update on its own.
So we should all know that by sync'ing it updates: Backup Contacts/Twitter/Weather/News/Stocks and maybe more.
However after hitting that sync button, minutes on end my temperature is the same; my weather is not updated.
If you were to go into Settings>Accounts and Sync>scroll down to Weather and click it; it will say that the weather was in fact updated but the home screen widget is not updating.
Even if you were to manually update it via the settings/accounts and sync/weather and then click weather update, the status will say it has been updated but the homescreen widget will not budge.
I called HTC after talking to Verizon and HTC also had noted that it too wasnt updating for him either.
I am a user that has everything disabled. But while I await for replies, I will enable everything and start checking things off one by one to see which thing it needs to function.
I dont have Background Data Enabled
I turn off Bluetooth-Wifi-and all locations.
OH and PS: if I go into the weather app and choose the update from that screen; YES it will change temperatures and weather but not by performing a sync.
Again HTC noted the same issue; thought it was a software glitch but last time I called them on this issue was well over a month + ago
Has anyone else noted the same thing?  Thanks

the background data needs to be checked in order for the weather to update once you perform a sync; everything else you can leave unchecked

  • Nokia N8 Belle Alarm Clock Issue

I was finally able to update my N8 to Nokia Belle a week ago and was reasonably impressed with it's attempt at an Android Froyo kind of thing, it is a step in the right direction. However-
I set a several alarms for between 6:45 and 10am today (I'm a fairly heavy sleeper). I snoozed the first alarm by turning over the phone to give me a few more minutes of sleep. The next thing I know, my sleep is breaking and it's 9:32am! All without a sound from any of my alarms.
I looked at my phone, and saw the box with 'Stop' and 'Snooze' on it, for the 6:45 alarm, as if it had just been activated and was waiting for me to choose either option. I pressed 'Stop' to get rid of the box and suddely similar boxes for all the other alarms started popping up in rapid succession, only then. What happened???
I was willing to wait 6 months past the original release date because I assumed such bugs were being sorted out properly; a smartphone shouldn't still be grappling with Alarm clock bugs - it should have better things to do. I'm hoping there's a quick solution to this problem, as I cannot wait two years for the next update. Please advise!
Also why does shuffle deactivate everytime I return to my song list? Seems silly, really - I don't want to have to keep turning it back on.

    First thing First!
AlarmClock: Being Honest! theres no such issues with the Default Alarm app. U might hav done sumthing unusual during sleep or your app had been crashed or it might b buggy or may b sum RAM issues.
    Its not a General issue.
I myself is a Heavy sleeper lke You!
    I too set 7 Alarms within 6:30 - 10:00 range.
All works fine with my Nokia N8-00 Belle.
MusicPlayer: Yeah! this had been a big problem for Music lovers that when you are Dazzling on SHUFFLE mode & once you clicked on a particular song in a list, the SHUFFLE is de-activate itself.
It might be a problem for Some people, but Logically speaking If you are in A Shuffle mode, u should not interrupt the playlist, if you do it gets deactivate automatically.
Nokia got a point this time

  • PC Connection Issues...please advise!

    Hello all,
I am having a MAJOR difficulty trying to connect the HTC Droid Incredible to my computer in order to transfer files back and forth.
Whenever I plugged the device (which, I think it is important to state, was a "certified like-new replacement" I received back in January due to an unrelated issue...I purchased the original in August of last year) into my computer using its data cable, it keeps connecting and disconnecting on its own. (Not the cable, the device itself; the connection status goes on and off.) It will go the menu where you can choose the various sync options (charge only, disk drive, etc.) but then this will disappear and so will the icons indicating a connection. (USB icon, battery charging, etc.) This keeps happening over and over until, out of frustration, I finally disconnect the phone. It's almost as if the device is possessed or something.
I know it isn't anything wrong with the USB ports on my computer because I have tried using other devices in them. I have tested them using my mouse and keyboard, as well as an extra mouse and flash drive I have. No problems at all. Thinking it was an issue with my actual device, I contacted customer service to explain the problem and after going through the laundry list of standard troubleshooting steps that every rep thinks solve all problems (battery pull, factory reset, etc.) they sent me a "certified like-new replacement," which I received today. Went through the whole setup process to restore my contacts and set up my Google account and such, and then attempted to connect the phone to the PC again. Did this solve the problem? NOPE! The previously described "poltergeist" phenomenon kept happening. It is also worth mentioning that this just started happening a few weeks ago. Prior to that point, I had no issues with doing this. I am at a complete loss. Neither Incredible has taken any liquid or physical damage whatsoever.
So anyway, listed below are the troubleshooting steps I have attempted:
    -A number of battery pulls.
    -A number of factory resets.
-Trying no less than THREE different data cables.
-Switching between the four different USB ports on my tower. (Again, I know it isn't an issue with those because I have used other devices in them with no difficulty.)
-Trying two different "certified like-new replacements" (which I'm starting to think is a misnomer, regardless of how many "test points" they pass), the one from January and the one from today.
-Putting the device in "safe mode" during startup (by holding the volume down key, menu key, and trackball as told by a rep).
-Adjusting the PC Connection settings (default type and such)
None of these steps did anything to solve the problem. Once again, this just started happening a handful of weeks ago. Prior to that point, I was able to freely transfer files without incident. So, yeah...please help! If it makes any difference, I am running Froyo, Android 2.2 on my device. Thanks in advance!

Are the computers both wired to the router or wireless? Double check if the cable connections are correct on the router. The router should be connected to the modem on its Internet port. If both computers are wireless, changing the channel of the router might help. What is the model number of the router by the way? You may have to reset and reconfigure it again.

  • Fascinate problem with app sharing links via email after Froyo upgrade

Since the Froyo 2.2 upgrade, I've noticed that anytime I select "Share" via email from an app - the Title is included in the email message, BUT NOT the the actual link.  This happens with all news apps and other apps.  Good grief.  I'm 7 months into a 2-year contract and sooooo tired of bugs with this phone (Samsung Fascinate).  Wish I'd waited for the iPhone.  I know iPhones are buggy too, but this droid situation is like a friggin free-for-all sometimes.

    Hi cygnetswan,
I apologize for the delayed reply and understand your concern regarding the Froyo update.  I would suggest  deleting then re-adding your email account  and clearing the cache for the specific app you are trying use.
To clear the cache go to: Menu>Settings>Manage Applications>All>Select the app you are using>Clear Cache.  To delete your email account: Menu>Accounts & Sync>Select your email account>Remove Account.  Please follow the previous steps to re-add your email account.
Additionally there was a software update released on June 08, 2011.  If you have not already complete the updated, I have attached the link: Software Update.  I hope these steps resolve your issue, if not please let me know.
    Thank you for your patience,

  • Is the "Wake Lock" app a good workaround for the Missed Calls/Texts issue?

Back on Jun 18, at the beginning of the "Any One Having Missed Call Problem after ED04 ..." thread, wardcst24 posted that the Wake Lock app seemed to fix the issue of missing calls and that all calls now were received A-OK (not sure about texts).
I think the train of thought is that after the Froyo / ED01 / ED04 updates, when the phone is in sleep mode it doesn't recognize some incoming calls and texts, but that this app keeps the CPU active enough to detect them when received.  There's probably a (minimal?) hit to memory / battery life / processing speed, but certainly acceptable vs missing calls.
Has anyone had any luck with this or a similar app?  I can't test it since I'm still on 2.1 (never got around to upgrading to Froyo, sometimes it pays to be lazy . . . )..
Here's the thread with the original Wake Lock reference:

It did work but when you would get a call wake lock would crash and if you didn't remember to reset it you would start missing calls again.
It would consume 3% per hour
I could not deal with having to remember to reset all the time so I sent my phone back to Samsung for the 5th time.
There is another one that is said to work very well it is sofLocker
    https://market.android.com/details?id=otis8.softlocker
I have not been able to test because Samsung has my phone for time #5
