Frustrating ordeal! Should have stayed with Sky!

Upon Receiving a promotional flyer through the post i decided to leave SKY (my internet & phone provider) and return to BT.....what a stupid decision that was.
my whole experience to date has been an absolute disgrace, if you check through my account you will find my order history you will see why i'm livid about the service i have been fgiven to date (if i was to begin to describe this i would be typing all day and my internet would probably drop out 10 times in the meantime).
basically i first contacted BT signing up to the newly installed infinity service back in Nov 14.....its now 16th Feb 15 and i'm no further forward to getting this installed. i have been given various dates and have arranged my wife to book time off work to let the engineers in, only to be cancelled at the last minute. I have called up many times and spent numerous hours going round in circles to your "INDIA" department getting no further forward other than another update date.
the real shame is that i left SKY as i was advised by BT that they could not provide the Fibre service but have since been told that my neighbours are already connected by SKY!!!
ever since i have returned to BT the Broadband speeds have been worse than pathetic for some reason as well, I have tried to cancel my service but cannot reach someone with the technical experience and lingual capabilities to advise me if this is possible.
For BT to class themselves as a communications company and employ operatives based in the third world to man their switchboards is appaling, perhaps if they were to employ British we would not have the unemployment rates we do these days.
I'm sorry if I sound racist, I'm really not....I am just utterly disgusted by this whole experience.
If i could just be given a 100% confirmed connection & Installation date i could at least settle with that but as it sits i feel i have been conned into signing up to a contract with BT.
my line rental has been paid in full for the year and i am not getting to make use of the Broadband for which it has been paid for, infact i actually usually have to Tether off my mobile in order to go online!

Hi derrydiamond,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the community forum!
I'm sorry for the length of time it's taking to get you connected to BT Infinity.  There must be an underlying issue preventing the upgrade order from going through.  Sorry you're unsure what that is, I can find out for you.

Why did my charger from Verizon already go bad..bought another one and it went bad..now the phone will not charge..what a disappointment and a hassle..should have stuck with Apple..only had the phone 2 months. Hope they will exchange it!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is either a Phone issue or an Electrical issue in your home.!   when charging Do you always use the same electrical  outlet?  or did you try others..
You will know or should know if there are any issues with your other Electronics.. that you Plug into it..
If it is the s5 which it sounds like it could be then the Local Verizon store at there Discretion will determined if replacement is needed you have a 1 year Manufactures Warranty that covers for things like what your Describing I would take it too your local store see if they'll get you a Replacement or you may have to go through Samsung..
But I would Try another OUTLET just to see if your phone charges with it.. And Good Luck b33

I had Bt broadband years ago and it was great, then Sky came along and offered me a package deal and I switched. For about 5 years I was with them with no problems. But about 4 week ago I moved house and needed to have a new phone line connected and as I got a good deal on the connection if I signed up , I went with BT and took delivery of my homehub 3.
Getting it online was all fine.. but I have to say I am VERY disappointed by the speed.
I am testing it regularly and am averaging a download speed of less than 1MB.
This is my most recent test.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 399 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600 Kbps-7.15 Mbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :8.13 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7.15 Mbps
I have a new baby in the house and the thought of ringing customer service and getting asked the generic questions about phone sockets and the computer I am using over a period of an hour is really not possible.
I am pretty tech savvy and everything in the house that could be checked has been. I am in the master socket and am testing while connected using a cable.. But it is still SLOOOOOW.. Sometimes not even loading pages atall..
Please someone help me. Both my wife and I run online businesses and its taking us DAYS to upload stuff onto our sites.
Thanks in advance.. apologies for the rant

  • Having buyers remorse-thinking I should have stayed with old plan

Went into retail store because my 18 month old IPhone 4S would not connect to wi-fi.  Was told it was a known problem and it was not under factory warranty and I had to buy a new phone. If it is a known problem, why did it not warn you when you upgrade IOS?  It seems like a plot with Apple to make you buy new equipment.
So now I'm re-thinking that switching to Verizon Edge is not the plan I want.  The only advantage I see is that I could get an upgrade after I pay off the phone which costs $649 so at $27 a month I would be eligible in 12 months to get a new phone.  So it seems that now the new plan is just like leasing a phone and you never really own it unless you pay the $649.  Is a phone really worth that much money?
Really unsettled now.  I knew I should not have gone into a retail store, they are sales driven and I never feel like I see the bottom line to compare costs and make a decision.  Every time I have gone into a store I feel like I was sold something I really did not want.  Lesson learned to really listen to my gut and shop online to make the right decision.  Not unhappy that I got a new phone on the spot, but just not sure the plan is what I really want.
Can someone give me the hard #'s to compare?  I have 4 lines that share 6GB of data so I'm paying pre-tax $240 ($80 + 40 + 40 + 40 +40).  If I'm paying $27 for the new phone + $80 (data) + 40 + 40 +40 + 30 (new edge plan) = $257.  Wouldn't I be better to pay a couple hundred dollars now and own the phone and not have to pay the monthy fee?  Really what is the benefit if you are not a person that needs to have the most current phone?

My last phone did not last 2 years so I'm afraid to be paying $649 for a phone and then end up having to buy another one in a year because the phone broke.
Then perhaps Edge IS for you. Also if you pay the $199 you have to pay the $30 upgrade fee so it's actually $229. If your phone cost $27 a month for 12 months that is $324 but you are getting $10 discount on the line fee so that's $120. So your actual cost for the phone would be $204 AND you get a new phone in a year instead of waiting a year. Sure you have to give the phone back but why would you want it if you're getting a new phone?

  • Lion - I have to say I should have stayed with Snow Leopard

I am not a huge of Lion at all.  In Snow Leopard and using Parallels I could print, email and work flawlessly.  But I made the stupid decision to upgrade to Lion and now I cannot for the life of me print From Parallels at all now.  THIS *****!!!  In a company where printing large sheets in a MUST - it dissappoints me that I cannot use my machine as I need it to be used.  I think Apple needs to reconsider their operatig system....
    I miss Snow Leopard...
    Angela
PS That is Lion, Parallels 7, Windows 7 and HP Designjet 500 42-inch.  I can print just fine from Mac but not Parallels (this set up worked great on Snow Leopard/Parallels 7)

I have not had any problems setting up any printer, so far, from Lion with Vmware Fusion and Win XP. Or from Win 7 on PC. And I use a Designjet 500 also
You are not doing something right. If you upgraded to Lion over Snow Leopard you may have to Re-install Parallels, latest version, Load your Win 7 Virtual Machine (in Fusion I can save the complete Win OS anywhere on my system or network and then copy it back and run it) and then re-Install the print drivers for your printer.

  • What in the name of Goodness have you done re: the full screen picture of Contacts on my iPhone? Sort it out Apple or I'm going back to Samsung, where maybe I should have stayed!

What in the name of Goodness have you done with the full screen picture of Contacts? How dare you just change it without so much as a bye or leave? This is NOT progress but a throwback to about 1997! I supposedly 'updated' to an iPhone two weeks ago. Should have stayed with Samsung I reckon. I am deeply unimpressed!

  • Why am I having so many issues, should have stayed...

Hi all, I had infinity installed last month with a promised 55/20 upload download, the first installation guy came fitted it and left and my speeds were awful, a week later another engineer came from BT and re did all the previous engineers work, after not getting any better speed increase he went away shaking his head, he said I was synced at 54mbps at the router but I'm only getting 12mbps d/l and 5.5mbps u/l on a good day, BT contacted me by phone and replaced my router to the home hub type B, and still no speed increase this was two weeks ago and the promised return call has not arrived, what is going on? i have totally new BT wiring in the house a new home hub expected speeds of 55/20 and I'm not near that at any time of the day or night, weather I'm the only one using the Internet or not, where do i go from here ?
As a side note with sky my samsung galaxy s2 would always keep hold of the wireless signal now it drops it all the time and I'm incurring more data charges, the same goes for the wife's iphone5, laptops etc are not affected,
At the moment i wish id stayed with sky...

Have to agree, I am about 450/500metres away from the cabinet and stiil advised that I should get 58Mb. If you are only 100m away from the cabinet you should/would be getting more that what you state .

  • I have been a loyal customer for years and have a hot spot because internet options are very limited in our rural area.  I have stayed with 10G since the beginning.  Most months I don't use the 10G.  Verizon has no problem with me paying for Data I don't

I have been a loyal customer for years and have a hot spot because internet options are very limited in our rural area.  I have stayed with 10G since the beginning.  Most months I don't use the 10G.  Verizon has no problem with me paying for Data I don't use.  This month my daughter comes home from College and she accidentally uses 24G.....14 over get blind sided with $140.00 in overages.  I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time.  Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help.  Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out.  I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!!     Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them?   We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.
    Good Luck

ion successfully installed. now unable to get on vpn using cisco, error 51 constantly appears. should have stayed on snow leopard!

Try opening a terminal window (Applications >> Utilities). At the prompt, enter:
    >sudo SystemStarter restart CiscoVPN
This will ask you for the admin password and it will restart the Cisco client service. That should fix it. This seems to be a known issue that will eventually be solved with some updates.

I just bought a macbook book pro. I was told by several people that it should have come with iMovie. I can't find it anywhere and it does not come up when I search for it. Someone else said that if it is not already on my computer I can download it for free? Please help! I would like to use it to burn some of my videos onto dvd.

Yes, your MBP should definitely have come with iMovie. If it doesn't have it, contact Apple directly and ask them what to do.

  • Should I stay with my new ipad at&t or switch to Verizon

I've been going back and forth all day thinking if I should stay with my ipad at&t or switch to Verizon. I would like to know what are the pros and con for both carriers. As I look at at&t LTE coverage map, it just looks depressing compared to Verizons map. Why are they so far behind!? Now, I live in Northern NJ, and at&t LTE tower is lovated in NYC, im not within the LTE range but the 4g or HSPA+. Same goes for Verizon LTE, Nothern NJ is only "extended overage" and so on.... I just want to know, which ipad would be the best in the long run.. Should I wait till at&t starts boosting there coverage or just completely switch.

Well yesterday (march 19) I've decided to switch carriers. I had AT&T with hspa+ in my area. Now that I have swapped, now I have Verizon 3G coverage in my area. So either or Im still in sucky signal are. I live in norther new jersey and The closest tower from at&t and Verizon is located in NYC. Choose carefully what carriers you want. Now, the only downside of leaving AT&T is that there network uses a 2100 MHz signals. And GSM is internationally dominate while Verizon's CDMA is only based in the U.S.
Now based on what Verizon offers, the free personal hotspot is what help me decide. Once you pay for the service, you can do whatever you want and share the Internet on 5 other devices. Meanwhile, at&t doesn't offer free personal hotspot 'at the moment'. It will take them awhile to add that feature and most likely will add it by the next iPad launch. In addition, AT&T likes to throttle, which is why the personal hotspot is not made readily available.
Now, another draw back, when AT&T doesn't cover you with LTE, it will offer hspa+ which is like having 3.5g.. With Verizon, when LTE is not available, 3G kicks in.
I also have AT&T as my cellphone carrier which is why I don't feel like I'm missing out. However,  I hope their LTE towers are made available by October since its quite obvious that the next iPhone will have LTE.
Overall, personally I'll will stay with verizon on the ipad and keep at&t on the iphone. I'm not updating to 'ipad4' next year so I want all the features that are available now on Verizon, except the 2100 MHz signals.

  • Which power adapter should have come with my 15" Macbook?

I got a 15" Macbook Pro at Christmas this year and I just looked at my power adapter and saw that it's a 60W, although I thought it should have been an 85W one. My computer does charge when I'm using (and rather quickly too, I might add), but I was just kind of wanting some clarification on this. I'm looking to buy a second power adapter to have one at my house and one at my boyfriend's house. He currently is using a 13" black Macbook (circa 2006, I believe), but is looking to get a 15" Macbook Pro in the future.
Anyway, I'm just wondering what power adapter I need to purchase, and check that I was indeed given the correct charger to begin with. I don't know how to find my model number, but it was the cheapest of the 15" models at the time. Thanks for your help!

Eh, not quite: You can use any Intel MB with any Magsafe adapter, but the use of it will vary.
I use my 17" mid-2010 i7 MBP with a 60W adapter from time to time if it's the one in a convenient place, I've even used it with the 45W only Airline adapter. Note the MacBook's power system is quite smart. If the system is on and active and it needs to restrict the power drawn, charging the battery will be the first to go, and then external power will be supplemented by battery power. So with a 15" or 17" MBP: on an 85W adapter you can play a 3D game and charge at the same time. Whee! Charge time is lessened if you draw less power and minimized if you power off the system and only use the available power to recharge. On a 60W it's possible to draw enough power using the system that charging will take an impractical amount of time. Power the system off and it'll recharge almost as fast as the 85W. With a 45W or airline adapter it won't recharge at all, and if the system is pretty busy, power will be draining from the battery too, albeit at a slower rate than if you were on battery only.
Think of the MacBook's power system as a water tank with an inlet hose and a drain hose. Inlet hoses come in three sizes, if your inlet is larger than your outlet you can fill the tank (recharge) at different rates depending on the drain (Air, 13", 15", 17" and how busy). The only exception where the analogy breaks down is if your drain is not the smallest (Air) and you use the smallest inlet (45W adapter), you can't fill the tank even if the drain is closed (MB is off).
If you want the other gory technical detail, only the 85W Apple adapter can switch up the 16v to 18v to allow for a faster recharge on the 15" and 17" MBP.
Probably more than you wanted to know...
Bottom Line: If you want to be able to charge any MagSafe MacBook, get an 85W adapter, Apple charges the same for the 60W as the 85W, and the 85W is only a little larger these days. (3rd party Magsafe adapters, not so much, the 60W's are usually a few bucks less.) 85W is what you'll find at the training tables in an Apple store BTW.
Don't bother with the $50 airline adapter if you don't own an Air. There are several 3rd party Auto/Air MagSafe adapters that will charge a 13" -17" MBP in the air or on the road.
