Ftp publishing (not .Mac)

I'd like to buy iLife 06 expecially for iWeb. I visited the apple site but I couldn't find out if it's possible to publish the created pages not using .Mac (that I have) but in another URL (with FTP) and if this is convenient.
Do you have any suggestions?

I can be done. There are many posts in this forum regard the ups and downs.
"http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1637792&#1637792" is one.
try searching something such as "non mac server".
There is a lot of info out there.

  • Uploading iWeb site to personal domain via FTP client (NOT .MAC)

    Hello,
I want to upload my iweb created website to my personal domain, in other words I do not want my domain to point to my .mac address.
I am downloading Cyberduck as my FTP client. Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain? Will it be in the right order? How will I update each day? (Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site. Will this work? I am totally lost, I had no idea I needed so much background info to blog outside of .mac! I guess I just want to design with iweb, and be able to use all the tools of my AN Hosting and wordpress.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Will I just send my whole "site" folder to my public folder at my personal domain?
You send the folder created by iWeb which has the same name as you gave your site inside the iWeb app, plus the index.html file which iWeb created alongside that folder.
How will I update each day?
By publishing again to a folder and uploading again via ftp.
(Can I set up iWeb so that when I click "publish" it will update my personal domain?)
No. If iWeb could do that you would not need an ftp program to start with.
I was planning on using some wordpress plugins to modify my site.
No idea, but generally speaking modifying iWeb to add stuff requires manual editing of the html after publishing and redoing it every time you republish.

  • Ftp/publish all/.mac

I've learnt through reading old posts that selecting 'publish all' is the solution to having the website appear in all browsers as I am having trouble with this. However, I have discovered that it's actually 'publish all to .mac' If I don't have a .mac account do I just not bother having a website built in iweb? I thought I didn't have to have a .mac account, is this true?????

From your file structure, it would appear that you have not followed completely what the tutorials would tell you to do.
It would appear that you have uploaded the contents rather than the whole site folder and separate index file created by iWeb when you publish to a folder?
As Roddy suggested, try downloading Cyberduck which is a free ftp program and then try uploading both your Site folder and the separate index file that iWeb produces. This will ensure that everything is uploaded correctly - your feed and scripts files and also the RSS feed will work if you do it in this manner. By doing it the other way, it could be that not all your files have uploaded properly.
Try it this way using Cyberduck instead, but also remember to name your site something like Site or S in iWeb so you don't get the double domain name that some complain about here.

  • Event invitations not published to .mac web page with rest of calendar

I've published a calendar to the .mac web server successfully, and the web page for the named calendar shows up fine in browsers at the appropriate URL.
However, when I receive an invitation from somebody else, and accept it, and put it into that (published) calendar, that event does NOT get published to the web page. Any idea why?
    Example
    - Joe uses Google Calendar to invite me to a meeting
    - Google calendar sends me a .ics file in email
    - I open the .ics file (click in Apple Mail, which launches iCal)
    - I view the invitation in iCal; then change the status to "Accepted" (from Invited), and change the Calendar for this event to the Calendar I've published on .mac
    - (iCal properly notifies Joe via a reply .ics via email that I've accepted)
    - iCal is properly updating my schedule on .mac for all other events besides this meeting invitation; but the meeting invitation does not get pushed to the .mac web page for my calendar
Item of note: In this use case, I am NOT the event Organizer; somebody else is. Is this why iCal doesn't do it? Or is there something I'm not setting correctly in iCal? Or...?
This renders .mac-web-published calendars effectively useless, since a good share of my calendar is made up of people who email me .ics invitations, and (for various reasons) the person who manages my schedule has to use the .mac web UI for my calendar to know when she can dish out my time. (She doesn't actually put things in my schedule; just allots time.)

  • FTP publishing on iWeb to replace existing site - files not appearing.

On iWeb, I used FTP publishing to replace my existing site files, then deleted the original files but not only has the new site files not appeared in my public html folder but I get the message:The requested URL /www.geofflevitus.com was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Founderror was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

but I get the message:The requested URL /www.geofflevitus.com was not found on this server.
That's an indication that the index.html file that is created alongside the site folder by iWeb is missing.
Try publishing your site to a folder on your hard driive and use a 3rd part ftp client like the free  Cyberduck to upload the site folder and the index.html file.
Cyberduck or Transmit will let you view your server folder in a Finder like window where you can see which files are missing.

  • FTP does not publish correctly to directory/path of \ (i.e. no folder name)

I have never been able to get the iWeb FTP publish to work correctly, so I will try once again.
I use www.easycgi.com for hosing, the the directory/path for www.mydomain.com is / (i.e. there is not a folder name). I can verify this via Cyberduck and have confirmed it with their tect support (i.e. no folder name, just \).
If you use / for the directory/pathin in iWeb, iWeb test connection button works fine (meaning it finds that folder) and publish works fine, but the pages are published to a newly created FTP folder called www.mydomian.com on the FTP server, so to access the pages the URL in a browser is www.mydomain.com/www.mydomain.com/index...the 2nd www.mydomain.com being the folder.
If you enter a directory/path of \, iweb seems to make the folder the site name (also entered in iWeb).
As a work around, you can publish using iWeb, then in cyberduck cut and paste everything from FTP folder www.mydomain.com to FTP folder \ and it works fine...just a hassle.
    Any ideas?
    thanks
    bob

The extra folder is given the name which you gave your site inside iWeb. Instead of using your url for your site name, call it Site or S or whatever.
Complete iWeb sites always have the sitefolder name in the url that appears in the browser address bar. If you want to eliminate that, you can publish to your local drive and use another ftp app to upload just the contents of the sitename folder. Or you can try forwarding www.myname.com to www.myname.com/sitename. Or you can try naming your site the same as the default folder on your server (e.g. public_html, if that is what your server uses). Or try putting just http:// in the url field.
If you eliminate the sitename folder, any RSS Subscribe buttons normally will not function. Some users have gotten RSS to work by putting just http:// in the url field.

  • Can not publish to .mac, iweb 08 freezes

A couple of days ago I attempted to update my .mac site using iWeb 08 and got an error message saying that the .mac servers were not responding or something along those lines. Tonight I tried again and this time iWeb just freezes up when trying to connecto to my .mac account. These last two times when I've tried to update was the only time I've ever seen the "connecting to .mac account" small popup come up after I select Publish to .mac account. Before (unless my memory fails me), it just went straight to uploading.
I just tried going to the .mac site via apple.com and I couldn't even login. Guessing my problem has something to do with this.
Anyone else having problems with their .mac account?

I just tried going to my iDisk from System Preferences/Internet & Network/.Mac and am getting a connection problem notice.
However, I can get to my iDisk from Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and...

  • IWeb pages published in folder do not match pages published on .mac

After creating a photography website in iWeb '07, I am unable to have the contents of that website that I publish to a folder match what I created in iWeb and/or published on .mac.
In other words, when I publish a page of photos to a folder (to later add paypal html coding) the html version does not match the published version on .mac.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
I was orgininally able to have the html file match the .mac version verbatim but after I added and deleted a few photos, the html file in the folder (as viewed with TextEdit) has not matched the edited changes ever since.
Any help, ideas or suggestion on this would be very helpful. The folks at the Apple store and at Apple Care were not able to help.

yeah, same here. I have more than 60 Video Tutorials on my site for free, many of them on iWeb so please have a look, as some of them definitely address your questions.
It is at http://www.australianmac.com and click on Tutorials on the top of the page. If they do not help then email me from the site and I will make you one that does.

  • Publishing on .Mac versus another hosting plan

I published the same Blog on .Mac and another hosting plan and get different results. To publish to my hosting plan at aPlus.net I first publish to a folder on my disk and then ftp that folder to my host.
At ,Mac the Blog works fine. At aPlus.net when I click on the first entry I get the following error
    Not Found
The requested URL /Investing/Blog/Entries/2007/8/18The_week_afterpill….html was not found on this server.
Note the strange characers inserted after pilla....I have published the same stuff several times to a different folder and have ftp-ed several copies of this folder to aPlus. but the results are different compared to .Mac
You can check it out by going to these two sites and click on the first entry
    http://www.flemishDNA.com/Investing/Blog/Blog.html
This is the copy residing on .Mac
    http://www.dokuspublishing.com/Investing/Blog/Blog.html
this is the same blog residing at aPlus.net
Where do these strange characters come from and how come publishing to .Mac and to another host turn out to produce different results ?
    Anyone?

Non-.Mac servers sometimes have more restrictions on characters they will accept. Yours is perhaps not accepting the ellipsis in UTF-8.
One thing you could try is to put an .htaccess file in your web space with the entry "SecFilterEngine Off" and/or "SecFilterCheckUnicodeEncoding Off" (without quotes).
A utility for fixing filenames with accented characters is available here.

  • FTP Publish Service for LR 3

What really amazes me is the lack of an FTP Publish service alongside 'Hard Drive' and 'Flickr'. It seems so logical… am I missing something?

Been messing around trying to figure out how to using publishing services with FTP and finally got it, and it is Free and works greet.
What I did is used the free Macfusion for the Mac to mount my FTP server from GoDaddy like a HardDrive and then in LightRoom am now able to add publishing service to the new mounted FTP (HardDrive).  Just go in and select HardDrive and select specific folder and away you go.
I found this actually works better than the FTP publisher add-in that is out there.  One problem with the FTP publisher is that if I tried to make a change to an original picture, it would not allow me to republish it, I do not have this problem with my method, everything seems to work great.
Let me know if anyone else gets this working and what you think.

  • Publish Error: .Mac Publish Configuration Values

Ever since the update to OS X 10.4.7, I have been unable to successfully publish any changes to an existing iWeb site. Whenever I try to publish I get a dialog box with the following:
    Publish Error
There was an error determining the .Mac publish configuration values. Please try again in a few minutes.
No matter how many times I attempt to re-try the Publish, I get the same message. I have checked the configuration of my .Mac preferences and everything looks fine (I am able to sync with .Mac without any problems).
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,

OK... here's an update. After successfully getting iWeb to publish using another WiFi network (as opposed to my home satellite internet connection), I decided to see if I could force iWeb to get its act together and complete a publish at home.
I WAS SUCCESSFULL! At least partly....
Here's what I did. Follow these steps at your own risk:
    (1) With iWeb closed-down, I went to the location of the Domain file that stores all of the iWeb files and data (found in your Home folder under Library/Application Support/iWeb)
    (2) Copied the file as a safety backup
    (3) Right-clicked (or <CTRL>-clicked for single-button mouse users) and selected the "Show Package Contents" option
    (4) In the resulting window, I highlighted and deleted the following items:
    - The "cached_resources" folder
    - assets.xxx.plist (where xxx is your .Mac username)
    - deletedComments.xxx.plist (same explanation for xxx as above)
    - ServerCachedResources.plist
    - sharedassets.plist
    (5) I then re-launched iWeb and triggered a "Publish All to .Mac" AND IT WORKED!!! Without a hitch!
Once the publish completed, I tried making a small text edit to a single page and then re-publishing.... but then I got the "Can't publish xxx file, try again" error. It appears that, over a satellite internet connection at least, iWeb is unable to overwrite a file that already exists on .Mac successfully without performing all of the above steps.
So... I went back in and repeated the same steps as above. Unfortunately, that resets iWeb into thinking that everything has been successfully published, so in order to get my small text change up, I had to "Publish All to .Mac" again... a bit tedious to have to upload the WHOLE site just to get one small change posted... but better than having to FTP files separately!
So... Apple... if you're listening, it seems that there is definitely an issue with iWeb publishing to .Mac over a high-latency network connection. PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!! I am reading that iWeb 2.0 is already in the works... with lots of enhancements, etc. I sure hope that PUBLISHING is one of them!
Hope this information helps someone else out there. Just be careful... I'm not happy having to mess around in the innerworkings of iWeb's files... and I'm not sure what the long range ramifications could be. Proceed at your own risk!

  • Can't FTP from a Mac to a Mac through ABS but can from a PC to Mac

    Hi all,
I have a problem trying to FTP from a Mac to a Mac through my ABS but can do so from a PC (windows machine).
I have a webserver http://jeanmatthieu.free.fr/pureftpd/ installed on one of my Macs which is connected to the internet via my ABS (snow). My other Mac is connected to the net via a dial-up modem. I can successfully FTP to the Mac with a webserver using an FTP application on a PC, but am unable to successfully connect from a Mac using an FTP appllication (I have tried Transmit, Fetch, and Cyberduck). The Mac FTP application connects but will not list the files on the FTP server, eventually timing out (see Transmit log below) I think the issue is with the ABS and possible port mapping as I can successfully FTP Mac to Mac if the server is connected to the net through ethernet and not my ABS.
Can anybody give me pointers as to what I need to do to solve this.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • IWeb page didn't publish to .mac

I created a web site in iWeb and chose command "publish to .mac" when it was ready. I got an error message saying it didn't publish, but not why. (Yes, I already have a .mac account.)
The page also does not appear under the URL http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]. (With the latter part filled in correctly, minus the brackets.)
Worst of all, I cannot find the original iWeb site, only the index copy saved as a Safari file, so I can't attempt to republish.
One, where did my original work go?
Two, why didn't it publish, and what can I do to fix it?

To see the problem go to http://web.mac.com/robruhn
I don't seen any problem. Perhaps it is just your local browser cache? Try clearing your cache and using another browser.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how the pc
    user can form the link?
http://web.mac.com/robruhn should work just fine, unless the person at the other end is mistyping it or something. I would suggest that you get rid of the space in your site name and republish, as that might cause problems for some systems (i.e. change Site 3 to Site3 or Site-3 or Site_3).
