FTP Server Authentication SLOW

I have an OS-10.5.1 Server that I am presently using for nothing other than an FTP server. (users are set up with OD passwords in LDAPv3 local.) Updates have been held back to 10.5.1. Only services running are AFP, FTP, OD and SMB.
Authentication is very slow, about 15-20 seconds.
I've done some research on this and tend to think it is attempting RFC 931 authentication. I would like to turn this off but only find ways to turn this off for xinetd or xftpd. These were on earlier servers but the Leopard server uses ftpd.
I don't see /etc/ftpd.conf file so I'm wondering where and how I should change this setting. If someone thinks my problem is elsewhere, I would welcome those comments too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sudo vi /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/xftpd.plist
and change params tag from -a to -aI

  • Authenticating the FTP server

    Hi,
Can u please send me how to authenticate the FTP server using username/password in Oracle 10g? I need to open the file and write contents after authenticating the FTP server.

Billy is right (again). What FTP server are you on about? If it's the embedded one inside the XDB DB, then amazingly enough you authenticate to it like any other FTP server, ie you provide a username and password from any FTP client. You can't tell it's any different from any other FTP server....
If on the other hand you need a PL/SQL FTP client to do FTP from PL/SQL, check out XUTL_FTP.

  • I cant upload through muse's uploaed to ftp host. And it is so slow! I have the correct password, ftp server, and user name frustrating!!

I cant upload through muse's uploaed to ftp host. And it is so slow! I have the correct password, ftp server, and user name frustrating!!

What version of Muse are you using? If it's not 2014.2, please go to the Creative Cloud Desktop App or creative.adobe.com and update.
The FTP login failure is most likely due to your host not supporting FTP Extended Passive Mode. In Muse 2014.2 switch to "Passive (PASV)" in the Connect to FTP Server dialog.
Regarding performance, how large is your site (in pages and megabytes)? How many Design view tabs are open? What specific operations are slow?
If you'd like to send your .muse file, I'll take a look and attempt to isolate the cause of slow performance. Please send me the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. Thanks.

  • Slow transfer of files from ftp server to client system

Recently when i connect to my ftp server, copying files is very slow, using either Ethernet or Airport, this wasn't the case before. At first i thought it was my network cable but using it with another Mac, files are copied fast. I don't want to format my computer, any ideas why i'm having this slow connection?

    Hi Steve!
Your problem sounds like a duplex issue with your Ethernet connection or you have more than just one network switch/hub between you and the server and they aren't configured very well.
Many network admins force their network switches to 100MB/full because Intel machines don't sometimes negotiate their speeds very well. However, Macs typically hate to be forced and prefer "auto" configuration.
Verify that you have one network switch between you and the server and if so, verify that your Mac's network port is set to auto-negotiate your speed and duplex.
You can type "ifconfig" into a Terminal window on your Mac to determine its current speed and duplex. Look for a line that says something like "media: autoselect status: active". For a wired Ethernet port you'll also see the speed and duplex of your connection.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • I'm new to Solaris 10 and need help to setup ftp server

    hello!
I just installed Solaris 10 and I'm trying to setup an ftp server (with ftpd) but I don't know how to do that
my server doesn't need any security or authentication
I'm looking for the default shared files directory
Also wondering what to change in what configuration file...
This OS looks quite similar to some linux I used before but the differencies are big enough to drive me crazy
    anyway thanks for your help.
    Any advice is welcome :-)

    cd /etc/ftpd
    vi ftpusers
put a # in front of root and any other users that you wish to be able to ftp
    then svcadm restart ftp
If you want to set up an anonymous ftp server, there is a little more involvement

This looks like FTPS which is not supported on the ASA. You can workaround it by trying to connect using Active mode from the outside instead of PSV.

  • Unable to poll for files in FTP server using Proxy Service (in OSB Project)

Here are the stepd followed for creating proxy service that should poll ftp server to retrieve files but polling is not happening and unable to see any errors in logs.
    1. Created service account by selecting resource type as static and providing the ftp user and password details.
    2. Created a New Proxy Service in eclipse
Tab General - service type as Messaging Service
Tab Messaging - Request Message Type as Text, Response message type as None
Tab Transport - Protocol selected as "ftp"
              - Endpoint uri entered in the format - ftp://hostname:port/directory
FTP Transport -Selected "external user" as User Authentication
              - Selected the Service Account thats created in step1/
                   - File mMask - *.*
                   - Polling Interval 60
                   - Read Limit 10
                   - Post Read Action - Delete
                   - Transfer mode - binary
                   - Download Directory - "some local directoy"
                   - Error Directory - "some local error directory"
Could any one please help here to trouble shoot the polling issue and correct me if this is wrong approach.
    Thanks

Did you configure the FTP adapter which is present in Weblogic server?I think he's using FTP transport in OSB and not the JCA adapter, if that's the case FtpAdapter configuration wouldn't help...
unable to see any errors in logsThat's odd, try to mess up the hostname and see if you get a connection refused on the logs...
It may be a permissions issue, the user you're connecting may not even "see" the files you place there... Try using the same user to create and to poll files...
    Cheers,
    Vlad

  • User named "Connected" logged on to my FTP server

I was checking out the activity on my server and found that I had a user with the name "Connected" logged into my FTP server as an authenticated user from address 218.188.21.181. I checked the system log and all I can find for entries on this IP address are repeated login failures.
My question is why does it show an active "Authenticated" connection from that IP address in Server Admin with a bogus name of "Connected", when the system log only shows entries from that IP address as repeated login failures? How can I tell if this person logged in successfully since successful logins are not logged?

This is all that I can find in the system log for that IP address. From what I can tell (system.log does not show successful FTP connections from what I can see), he has not connected. If he has, he has not done anything over FTP. I have every option selected for FTP logging, so any directory change, or file transfer would be logged. Anonymous access is disabled and I have gone over every share to make sure that none of them have guest access enabled. What bothers me is when looking at the FTP service in Server Admin, under the connections tab, it shows the following connection:
    Name: connected
    Type: Authenticated
    Address: 218.188.21.181
    Activity: IDLE
Other (known) users are listed as well, and when I look at the activity log, I can see that they are uploading/dowloading files from the server as expected. I just want to know why I have this user named "connected" that appears to be connected to the server.

  • FTP server: PORT command not supported??

    Hi,
In a nutshell - we are trying to set up PASV -- PORT connection between a Tiger server (10.4.11) and another system (say it's a windows FTP server). Issuing a PORT command to a Tiger FTP server fails with this error:
    -> PORT 192,168,11,3,199,158
    <- 500 Invalid PORT command
I have done some research on the web and as far as I can see - this is just a feature that is disabled in Mac OS X ftp server.
What's strange is that "features" command states that PORT is supported.
Has anyone seen PORT command work for a Tiger Server ftp daemon?
Has anyone succeeded enabling this command on a Tiger server?
Can you recommend another FTP server that works well on a Tiger server?
    Thanks a million,
    Darius

Passive (PASV) and Port (PORT) mechanisms are orthagonal.
If you're working with PORT, then you're almost certainly trying to clear through one or more firewalls. And a firewall can also trigger the Illegal Port Command error for a PORT command.
(Though I don't see a PORT command in the Mac OS X ftp client. I've checked a couple of clients, and it isn't common to expose it.)
ftp is a mess. Insecure, difficult to configure, insecure, firewall unfriendly, insecure, and slow. And did I mention insecure?
(No, I'm not a big fan of ftp.)
    Some reading material:
    http://www.cert.org/techtips/ftp_portattacks.html
    http://www.slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
    http://cr.yp.to/ftp/security.html
As for a suggestion, chuck ftp and switch to sftp.

  • Off-Topic: Unresponsive FTP server

What's the deal with Oracle's FTP Server? Everything used to be smooth, no matter what day or time. Now you get:
    * User ftp access denied. Not logged in.
    * If you ever do log in, and start GET, the transfer rate gets slower and slower 'til you get no response from the server, so you'll have to cancel and try logging in again and you go back to 'user ftp access denied'.
Is it just me, or is anyone else experiencing this? I am downloading the last 40mb of 8iR2 for the last 4 nights.

i agree. i have been trying for days to download something from them, and have yet to be successful.

  • Basically, I failed to login to an ftp server by typing the password wrong. Now I cannot connect to the website at all. What can I do to fix this?

Pretty much what the question says, I managed to type the password wrong when trying to connect to an ftp server and now I cannot connect to the whole website.

Try to clear the Active Logins (Authenticated Sessions) via Tools > [[Clear Recent History]]

  • FTP server Error 530

    Hi,
I am trying to setup FTP server on Windows XP Professional. I am doing the following steps:
--> Enable IIS and FTP services in Add/Remove Windows Components section.
-->In Administrative Tools , setup up FTP site. Anonymous authentication is selected.
--> Enable FTP service in Windows Firewall.
--> Share the  folder mentioned in FTP site Directory.
Still when I try to contact FTP server from other windows machine , I get a  prompt to enter username and password. I enter the same credentials as mentioned in FTP site properties Security Accounts tab.
I always get the same error:
    530 User cannot login.
When I see the current sessions on FTP server , I see the other machine  connected. But I can't copy any file .
I get the same issue on Windows 7 too.
    Please help!
    Regards
    Aditi
