Function palette icons different for Touch Panel project

When I first installed LabVIEW (v8.5.1) the FieldPoint I/O palette did not show up when I tried to create a Touch Panel project.  It did however show up if I simply opened the VI itself (which I created when I created the project) instead of opening the project.  I decided to write the entire VI in that manner and would simply import it into a new project when I was finished.  I recently finished writing the VI and imported into a new project I created.  However, when I try to run the program it doesn't work.  I also just noticed that the Merge Errors icon doesn't show when working in a project, but does show if I only have my main program VI open.  Does anyone know why this would be the case? I think I have everything installed correctly, although with so many add-ons/toolkits/drivers I am not 100% positive.  I'm trying to figure out why my program doesn't build correctly and thought I would start here.  I don't know if that is the cause of my build problem, but any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
-John

Hi John,
Touch Panel VIs do not support all of the functions or controls normally found on the LabVIEW palettes.  In the LabVIEW Help, if you browse to Touch Panel Module >> Creating Touch Panel VIs, there are topics called "Designing PDA and Touch Panel User Interfaces" and "Developing PDA and Touch Panel Block Diagrams."  Differences in Touch Panel controls, indicators, functions, properties, and methods are documented here.
When a VI is opened as part of a project under a touch panel target, the Functions and Controls palettes change to display only functions and objects that are supported.  You will notice that some VIs, such as Merge Errors.vi, are missing, while others, such as PDA Error Handler.vi, are added.  If the VI is opened outside of the project, it isn't specified as a Touch Panel VI so the standard palettes are visible.  I prefer to develop my VIs under a touch panel target to make sure I am using supported functions.
Hope this helps clarify things.

  • How to modify a combo box for touch panel operation?

    Hi,
I'm developping a touch panel controled application.
The first step of the application is user log-in. My application has a small database of names that the user can access via the drop down menu of a combo box.
My problem is that the arrows and the slider of the vertical scroll bar are way too small to be fingers-operated:
Is there a way to modify the size of this scrollbar so that it's not too small for the operators' fingers?
    Best regards,
    peper

    Hello peper,
As far as I know this is not directly possible (a least not with the control editor).
If you want to, you could also create your own "adapted" control yourself through an XControl.
This one can then (for example) combine a name input, a button and a listbox (with a big vertical scrollbar).
Or is this too far fetched?

  • DVD Remote "skip" Function Doesn't Work for Blu-ray Projects (CS5 Encore)

I have graduated from SD to HD and I need help.
I just finished my first HD project in CS5, burned it to a Blu-ray disk and immediately encountered a problem: the skip forward and the skip backward remote functions don’t work. (I have encountered several other problems on the way to get here but I solved those with the help of the manual and by browsing this forum ). In this project, I am doing exactly what I have done in my previous SD projects (where this function works):
In CS5 Encore, I added “Chapter Points at Intervals…”.
On the timeline Properties Panel, I kept the default selection “Operations: All Permitted” (that includes “Search for Chapter” in the “Permitted User Operations” menu).
In the “Project Preview” window, clicking on the “Next Chapter” or “Previous Chapter”, the function is executed correctly.
Still, after burning the blu-ray disk and pressing the “skip forward” or “skip backward” buttons on the Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65) remote, the “Operation is not permitted” message appears. (This very remote button function works on all my SD projects.)
More background info: I am also using Encore Chapter Markers from the PrPro project linked with Adobe Dynamic Link, chapter marker End Actions (Jeff’s The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, pp. 178-180), and Bill’s advice on using the “dip to black” transition to avoid the ~1 second gap between chapters in the Chapter Playlist that I use to play all chapters.  The following observation may be unrelated: in Encore’s Monitor Panel, the “Step Forward” button with pressing the Alt key does not move the CTI to the next GOP mark. The “Step Forward” or “Step Backward” functions (without pressing the Alt key) work (moving the CTI one frame)..
At this point, I desperately need the Forum’s help.
    Thanks,
         - Laci.

Up to now I worked only with standard definition projects and outputted them
to DVDs. This is my HD project. My problem is that I am a bit confused with
the proper (and simple) settings for a blu-ray project. Your
questions/comments imply that I am making a "DVD project" - but then, how
can I burn it to a BD?
Here is what I am doing, and please, let me know if/where I am making my
    mistake:
    1.       On the camcorder the recording format is set to "AVCHD 1080/60i
    HA".
    2.       In the CS5 PrPro new project:
    a.       General > Capture Format: HDV
    b.      New Sequence > Sequence Preset > AVCHD > "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)".
    3.       In Encore: File >  Project Settings > Basic:
    a.       Authoring Mode: "Blu-ray"
    b.      Transcode Settings: "Codec: MPEG-2; Dimensions: 1920 x 1080; Frame
Rate: 29.97, Fields: Upper Field First, Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby
Digital, Maximum Audio/Video Bitrate: 15.0 Mbps"
    c.       In the "Default Transcode Settings" window, the Blu-ray tab is
highlighted. (There, I could change the codec from MPEG-2 to H.264 -
according to some articles it would give slightly better quality in certain
    circumstances - I don't know.)
    d.      On the Encore Project Panel, right clicking on the sequences, and
choosing "Transcode Settings" from the menu, I get a window that says "DVD
Transcoding" and "Blu-ray Transcoding". In the Blu-ray Transcoding section,
I choose Codec: MPEG-2, Dimension 1920x1080, Frame Rate: 29.97, Quality
    Preset: Automatic Using Project Settings.
    e.       Going into the "Edit Quality Presets", I change the "Export
Settings Preset" to "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality" (from the 1280x720)
    4.       Now, in the Project Panel, under the Blu-ray Transcode Settings I
    see: "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality MPEG-2".
Are these the correct settings for a high quality Blu-ray project? I am
re-transcoding the project with these settings to see if I still get the bad
    transitions.
    Thanks for your advice,
    Laci.

  • Layer Palette Icons different when images turned off

It's hard for me to set apart everthing in the icon palette now that the white bounding box is gone, and the icons are different. But can at least the vector mask be like it was in CS5? Also can the bounding box on icons come back? I attached an image.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll go through and evaluate these requests towards the end of the beta.
    Thanks again!

  • TPC 2215, new touch panel does not run normal labview programs?

We recently bought a PC (PPC-2115, normal win-XP) from NI for an industrial application. Now we heard that that unit is discontinued soon, so repair service will be very limited. We want to change to another iPC. NI suggests TPC-2215 touch panel with windows-7 embedded. But then they say that we need a special Touch Panel license to make exe-files for this PC.
If this is true it makes the TPC 2215 a very bad choice for us. Both that we have to pay a new licence, but most that new introduce a new taget. The exe-file we make for the TPC-2215 cannot be run on any normal PC (during tests, as backup if the TPC needs service etc.). Since we already have a bunch of normal iPC (different brands, including NI) we have to compile every program twice, one for touch panel, and one for normal labview runtime.
So is it really true that a normal labview program "hello-world.exe" will not run on the new TPC-2215?
(sampe question would apply to TPC-2206 and TPC-2212)

I can now confirm that I can use our normal license to make normal windows executable files. So I am happy!
Only the disk is a little too small, but I heard that should be changed soon.

  • Setting Close icon (X) for a container

    Hi,
I just want to know whether it is possible to set close icon (X) for a panel or any other component. Here close icon mean the one which we see on the top right cornet of a IE window.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sapna

There is a tutorial for JScrollPane:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/scrollpane.html
It came to my mind that JSplitPane is not using JScrollPane for the two components you add. So perhaps the solution would be to "wrap" both your components to their own JScrollPane before you add them to the split pane.
Then for those scroll panes I would probably use:
    JScrollPane.setColumnHeaderView(myXCloseButtonInAPanel)
    or
    JScrollPane.setCorner(upperRightCorner, myXCloseButton)
I don't know if that will work, or how it will look like now that you use the scroll pane's scrollbars instead of the split pane's scroll bar. You have to experiment with it. The scroll pane's should be able to resize themself to fit in the split panes areas when you move the divider, and maybe that's not so easy to do. Otherwise you will end up with both a scrollbar from the split pane and a scroll bar from the scroll pane.. yuck.
Maybe someone else has a better solution?

  • Why does LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms have 2 Functions Palettes?

LabVIEW for Lego Mindstorms has 2 separate Functions Palettes.  One of them appears when one creates a VI (.vi) for a Project (.lvrbt), and it appears to contain Mindstorms NXT functions.  The other appears when one creates a stand alone VI (.vi), and it contains functions which are labelled "NXT Robotics" but which appear to be the old Mindstorms RCX functions.  For example, the Motor Functions have no Speed or Duration controls.  (See Control Palette pictures on the attached Word document.)  (NI should be aware that the RCX is no longer sold or supported by Lego.)
If I only want to create a stand-alone VI, how do I access mature NXT functions with which to implement that VI?
    Attachments:
NI LabVIEW Function Palettes.doc ‏127 KB

I knew that the NXT could be controlled from a "remote" device (e.g. cell phone), though perhaps "remote" is a poor choice of words given your use of the word "direct" which, as you use it, has the same connotation.  I have never run the NXT in the direct mode, nor have any of my team members.  The reason I assumed that you had included RCX functions was RCX functions had fewer properties than NXT functions just like your "direct" functions do.  I have no idea where the "dual mode" functions are to be found.
I think LVLM has inadequate introductory documentation.I have Gasperi's book, but like NXT-G books, he only gives recipes for robots with different functionalities.  LVLM needs a better structural and functional description.
Lego Education is not supporting LVLM (nore is NI, for that matter, at least not very well...it was a lot of work to get to someone who knew what they were talking about).  The guys at Lego Education are not in a position to support LVLM.  Your guys also asked me to call "Tom Barrowman," Lego's New England sales rep.  I didn't call him, but I am betting that he knows even less.
I understand why NI doesn't want to put the support bucks into LVLM.  The license for LV cost $2500/year, and I bought LVLM for $100.  LVLM was intended to be an introductory product for people (kids) who might become NI customers someday, but if those kids walk off in disgust because they can't figure out how to use LVLM, NI's investment in it will have been for nothing.

  • Change Folder Icon in Functions Palette

Hey, have two questions.  I'm writing an instrument driver for an instrument I have here at work, and I have the VI's working.  I have the VIs organized and inserted into a library, which is in a project including that library and an examples folder (so basically the way Labview downloaded instrument drivers are set up).  I put all this in the instr.lib folder, and the VIs show up in the functions palette just fine.  So, based on that setup, my questions are:
    1) How do I change the folder icons (not the VI Icons - already did that) in the functions palette?
    2) How do LV instrument drivers hide the "Examples" folder and simply display the VIs from the "Public" Folder?  (they don't appear to be marked private)
    Thanks!
    TG

I think the secret is in having an mnu file, which defines what will appear in the palettes. You can create one by editing the palettes (under Tools>>Advanced) and there you should be able to remove items and to edit the palette icon by right clicking it. You should probably also make sure that the mnu file is saved in the same folder, so that you can have it in other PCs. Note that the palette editor has this annoying confirmation dialog which tends to hide under other windows and which you need to get to finish editing, so move it to somewhere you can find it before you start editing.
Another option is using VIPM to install the driver, and that will also allow you to edit a palette.

  • Function palette polymorphic vi missing icon

    Hi,
I have a problem that every polymorphic VI that I put on function palette is missing icon (question mark is displayed). All other VIs icons are displayed correctly. Of course, polymorphic VI exists on the specified path and its icon is the same as the icon of its sub-VIs.
    I have LV2012.

    Dear andrej!
Since we have the VI Package Manager and the inside this the VI Package Builder tool, I recommend to use these to insert a new element (or submenu) into the function panel.
Here you can find a very detailed Hands-on about the topic: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-17536

  • Function Point Analysis for SAP BW Projects

    Hello All,
Have been assigned a task to come up with Function Point
    analysis for SAP BW projects.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mainak

    Hi Mainak,
Function Point Analysis is independent of technology, methodology or platform, so there is no function point analysis specific for sap bw, rather you should familiarize with the fundamentals of FPA.
And as you might know, FAP is used to determine whether a given a tool, an environment or a language is more productive when compared to others.
I can send you good links if you can give me your email-id.
    Hope this helps...

  • LabVIEW Touch Panel Module for Linux

    Hi,
Does NI released Touch Panel Module for Linux?
    Thanks,
    Ali

    Hi Dennis,
Here is the article I read about LabVIEW Embedded Development Module. Page 1-1, "Taking Your Graphical Design to Any 32-Bit Microprocessor".
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371233b.pdf
About the topic you are right. I have the VI on Windows XP. I converted it to WinCE 5.0 with LabVIEW Touch Panel Module and it works perfectly. I have LabVIEW for Linux and I converted the VI to Linux and it works on PC. Now, I want to convert it to Embedded Linux that works on ARM microcontroller.
I am looking for LabVIEW Touch Panel Module for Linux because the only supported platform for that is Windows.

  • Touch Panel replacement for Ipod Touch 3G 8go

    Hello,
My touch panel is crashed and i want to replace it.
I would like to know if there is a difference between touch panel for my model 8Go and these for 16 and 32 Go.
    Thank you in advance
    Greg

... and what Illaass did not mention is that there is no such thing as an 8GB 3rd gen Touch.
So if your Touch is 8GB, it's either a 4th gen (unlikely if you think it's 3rd gen) or more likely, a 2nd gen Touch. If you are ordering parts for your iPod, you will need to be accurate about which model you have or the parts may not fit or work.
