hi davide--
htmldb application are online by their very nature. they're all web-based; accessed via a url. the links to which you are referring are called the Developer Toolbar. as explained in the HTML DB documentation, that toolbar only appears when a developer has logged into both the application and the associated htmldb workspace from the same browser. if you download the new 1.6 version of htmldb...
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/download.html
...there's a new chapter 12 called "Deploying an Application". you should probably check there to get the full scoop on making your app more widely available.

• Oracle function to strip HTML tags in data

Hi, may I know if there is any oracle function that can strip HTML tags from the data? I am currently using Oracle 9i. Therefore is unable to use the RegExp_Replace functionality provided by Oracle 10g.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

I found this function:
function str_html ( line in varchar2 ) return
varchar2 is
x varchar2(32767) := null;Let's hope whoever uses this doesn't want to deal with large XML's.
This question would have been better asked over in the XDB forum. All depends whether there is a schema available to describe the XML, what version of the database etc. With a schema, the schema could be registered into the Oracle 10g database and that used to create relational tables automatically, from where you can load in the XML files. Loads of information available on the XDB forum, most likely in the FAQ's on there.

• Converting Query results into HTML email

Hi,
I am using oracle 11g. I' m using the following procedure to send out html emails from a static query in the procedure and it works fine. I wanted to make it dynamic and pass the sql query as a parameter to procedure and build the html tags based on the query. Any thoughts?

• JSP/Servlets functions: clear HTML tags, clear SQL code, validate E-mail

Hello!
I am looking for java functions, which:
- clear HTML tags
- clear SQL injection code
- validate an e-mail address
Probably there are java build-in functions for doing that.
Maybe anyone could give me their names?
I would be also grateful for any help, links or something.

• Can a DTD map custom styles to standard HTML tags?

Hi,
Every week the publishing house I work for has to manually copy the entire content of a weekly magazine on an article-by-article basis into an online database, the web version of the magazine. This means copying the styled InDesign content and inserting it into the database as plain text, re-finding all those italics (and any other styling) and putting it all back manually.
I already know that I can create tags with all the basic HTML styles needed in the 'Tags' palette in InDesign, and then export that.
The trouble is that when I re-import the XML file, I have to laboriously map the custom house-styles (there are many of them and they're boiler-plate, i.e. consistent, across all the magazine's InDesign styles) to the imported HTML styles.
So here's my question:
Am I wrong to believe that it's possible to create a DTD that would import not only the HTML tags but their relationship to the existing, custom-named InDesign tags that are common to all the magazine's documents?
As an InDesign wish-feature, what's missing from the 'Tags' corner-menu is 'Export DTD' - if that was available, I could map the whole relationship between Indesign Styles/HTML styles just one time and later import the DTD on other articles; which would tell the Structure View how to convert our custom house-styles (both Paragraph Styles and Character Styles) into HTML tags and cut this time-consuming task in half.
Thanks!
EDIT: I perhaps should have mentioned that obviously the final stage after this 'dream conversion' is to export the XML from the Structure View. Then I can just open the saved XML file and paste it into the CMS with formatting intact.
Added extra explanation of the workflow.

Googling XSLT and InDesign, it seems that such a stylesheet, if I were to create it, possibly couldn't handle spaces in the original InDesign style-names..? If anyone knows that for a fact, I'd be glad to be aware of it before starting down a long path to a roadblock.
That's a good question. Let's find out together, shall we. I just created a text frame with Lorem Ipsum text, and created "a style" (with space) and "bstyle" (without). Now ... Map Style to Tag doesn't work, presumably because the tags don't exist and I assumed this would *create* them. And if you create one, ID complains "tags cannot contain tabs or spaces". (So can you have a Tab in your paragraph style name then? Gosh.)
... Forcing in a Non-breaking Space (#160) also doesn't work, this time ID simply says "A tag name cannot contain the character ' '."
I think that's one you have to do manually.

I'm guessing that if I wanted to change the InDesign style 'Subheader' into 'h2', that snippet of the XSLT would be like this...?
<xsl:template match="Subheader">
<xsl:apply-templates />
</xsl:template>
Yeah, that's the correct syntax. But you cannot use an XSLT for mapping InDesign styles to tags. The process as I described works when importing your XML into InDesign, and changes the tags in the XML file to match InDesign styles. That's the other way around.
I don't expect anyone to write this for me, but any hints or links to tutes that I haven't yet found would be appreciated!
For a simple one-to-one translation of tag names, you can use this all the way. You only need any other XSL command if you want to do more than simple translation, such as filtering, moving, combining, or separating tags or their contents.
There are lots of good tutes on the 'web for XSLT, although it seems interest has diminished lately. Half a decade ago XSLT was "hot"; nowadays the iPad is. Is there any news on improvements for ID's native XSLT support in CS6? I dare bet there are none at all -- it's already been deemed "yesterday's technology" by Adobe's Dev Team, just as Flash was discarded per CS5.5. I'm sure next year DPS will follow; and the year after that EPubs will be gone for good as well, replaced by holograms, transmitted live from your local library.

• Replace function for HTML tags

Hie Guys,
I would like to get rid of the HTML tags from a column/object in my report using the "Replace" function. Basically, I want to replace whatever the content is between "<" & ">" i.e. the opening and closing tags. I know I can use the "Pos" function to identify the position of "<" & ">", but I am not sure exactly how to achieve this in Webi. FYI - "Read content as HTML" & "Read content as Hyperlink" did not resolve the issue. Can anyone please help? Thanks.

Hi Jeewan,
It will be very tedious to do this at Webi level.
I have tried below example. It might help you to work around your issue; however, not completely:
1. Created an Excel and inserted single value in first column as:

this is yuvraj

2. Used it as source and created a Webi report in Rich client.
3. Applied SubStr recursively using Pos function and created below variables:
test : =Substr([column_1]; Pos([column_1];">")+1;Length([column_1]))
test1: =Substr([test]; Pos([test];">")+1;Length([test]))
test2 : =Substr([test1]; 0;Pos([test1];"<")-1)
The output has been attached.

• Is there a way to combine their query results into a single function

say I have a bunch of functions that return a query:
<cffunction name="getDeals" access="remote"
returntype="query">
<cffunction name="getDeals2" access="remote"
returntype="query">
is there a way to combine their query results into a single
function that returns a struct of the various results?

Umm, it's probably more suited to an array - effectively
making it into a list of queries. You'd then loop the array and
output each.
I use a similar approach when creating system messages to the
user. Most of my functions that are called do their bit, then at
the end call another function I call "messages". This function
grabs whatever my function sends and appends it to a messages
array.
This way enables me to output a long list of messages -
because I could be calling several functions at the same time. If I
just output a message from each function, each one would overwrite
the other. So I'd get one message at a time.
Immediately after it's output, I then destroy the message
array so that old messages aren't kept inside of it.
Mikey.

• Inserting custom HTML tags into a HTMLDocument to be displayed in a JEditor

Does anyone know how to insert custom tags into a HTMLDocument to be displayed in a JEditorPane?
I have tried using the following code,
kit.insertHTML( doc,
jep.getCaretPosition(),
"<testtag>FFFF</testtag>",
0,
0,
new HTML.UnknownTag("testtag") );When the above code is run the handleStartTag, handleEndTag and handleText methods are called on the HTMLReader but nothing is inserted into the document model? Can anyone help?
I have created an instance of HTML.UnknownTag,
public static HTML.Tag testTag = new HTML.UnknownTag("testtag");I have subclassed HTMLEditorKit and overridden the getParser() method,
protected Parser getParser(){
DTD dtd = null;
try {
dtd = createDTD( DTD.getDTD("html32"), "html32" );
} catch ( Exception e ) {
e.printStackTrace();
dtd.getElement( "testtag" );
Parser p = new ParserAdaptor( new DocumentParser( dtd ) );
return p;
}I have subclassed HTMLDocument and HTMLDocument.HTMLReader and created a TagAction for my new tag.
The following code works fine, the custom tag is in the document model,
String contents =    "
"
+ "
"
+ "<testtag>Here is some text</testtag>"
+ "
"
+ "
";
((HTMLDocument)jep.getDocument()).setPreservesUnknownTags(true);
jep.setText( contents );

I've been trying to get
insert working in an editor but it seems to be a quite difficult task even if it's only about inserting a couple of tags into the right slot! This is the closest I got:
HTMLDocument doc = (HTMLDocument)editor.getDocument();
int start = editor.getCaretPosition()
int paraStart = doc.getParagraphElement(start).getStartOffset();
int paraEnd = doc.getParagraphElement(start).getEndOffset();
String insideBlockQuotes = doc.getText(paraStart, paraEnd - paraStart);
doc.setOuterHTML(doc.getParagraphElement(start),"

"+insideBlockQuotes+"

");
This is how it works: Get the current paragraphs start and end positions, read the text between the start and end into a string, replace the paragrapElement with

..the text from string..

.
This works 'in about' but it's far from perfect.. it has the following problems:
1. It looses all formatting from the quoted paragraph (bold etc. tags from the quoted part)
2. It assumes that the paragraphElement was a
(could have been another element too!)
3. It's ugly
Anybody come up with a better way to use blockquote?

• Calling function from html tag in dynamic textfield

Hi!
Tried several approaches for making this happen, but can't seem to do it. I could really use an example of how to do this in my particular case, since I'm not exactly a code - guru.....
I have a sprite menu which populates a dynamic textfield with textlabels as users click individual items in the menu in addition to ordinary actions(gotoAndStop).
As these labels appear in the textfield, I want to be able to link them to the frames assosciated with the menu - item frames. As you can understand from this, I am working with the timeline.
By enabling html rendering of text in the textfield, I have been able to link these output labels via a a href - tag, but I am not able to call a function from this html. The function I am trying to call uses a switch statement to take the appropriate actions according to which label is being clicked, but the only effect I get is the html opening a browser window...... Unfortunately I do not know how to explain this any better, but here is my code for the following:
Main Timeline, frame 1, actions layer:
[AS]import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.display.Stage;
var buttonTrace:TextField;
var sectionNames:Array = new Array("Frontpage","Introduction",
"Designparadigm", "Tooling", "Maya & c++ API", "Geometric Vectors","Lindenmayer systems","Artificial Life",
"Projects","Litterature","Disclaimer","Site credits","Newsletter & Rss",
"Blogging","Plugins","LINKS");
var sectionCount: int = sectionNames.length;
var menu:Sprite = new Sprite();
menu.x = 452;
menu.y = 172;
this.addChild(menu);
buildMenu();
function buildMenu():void {
for(var i:int=0; i < sectionCount ; i++){
var item:MovieClip = new MenuItem();
item.labelName = sectionNames[i];
item.targetClip = this;
if(i<4){
item.y = i*125
menu.addChild(item)}
else if (i>3 && i<8){
item.y = (i-4)*125
item.x = 125
menu.addChild(item)}
else if (i>7 && i<12){
item.y = (i-8)*125
item.x = 250;
menu.addChild(item)}
else if (i>11 && i<16){
item.y = (i-12)*125
item.x = 375
menu.addChild(item)}
}[\A]
Then, for the movieclip called MenuItem, I have button placed on the first frame of the timeline, and this code in the actions layer:
[AS]import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.display.Stage;
import flash.text.TextField;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.TextEvent;
var buttonTrace:TextField;
var labelName:String;
var targetClip:MovieClip;
clickButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick);
function onClick(evt:MouseEvent):void {
trace(labelName);
targetClip.gotoAndStop(labelName);
MovieClip(root).buttonTrace.appendText("\n" + labelName);
MovieClip(root).buttonTrace.addEventListener(TextEvent.LINK,linkHandler);
function linkHandler(linkEvent:TextEvent):void {
switch (linkEvent.text) {

One problem is that you don't understand escaping. If you re-read what you posted you'll see that what you say you get, and what you say you want, are identical. That's because you didn't escape one of the two properly. So your first step should be to find the section about escaping in Chapter 1 of your XML book and read it carefully. Figure out what you should have done here (yes, the same rules apply).
However, to attempt to answer what I think your question is: if you have a String which contains markup, and you want to convert that String to XML elements, then you have to feed the String into an XML parser.

• Remove HTML tags without REPLACE

Hello,
I have a simple query that returns some data, but the result could have html tags. I don't want to keep using REPLACE because sometimes I receive a tag that is not included in the REPLACE function. Is there is a way to do that, may be using some XML code?

• HTML Tags not moved in PDF

Hello,
I would like to print a report as a PDF and use the BI Publisher.
This functions so far also quite well, only I have the problem
I pass a HTML formatted text from a field CLob
and with the PDF output the HTML tags are not moved.
In the PDF document the HTML tags stands instead of a formatted heading,
e.g.
<*h1> This is the heading <*/h1> (without stars)
What I must set / make with it I also a formatted one
Heading agrees?
Somebody an idea?

True - a PDF isn't going to support HTML encoding. HTML will just be seen as more text, and displayed that way.
You can strip out HTML tags fairly easily with a regular expression in your query SQL - this simply looks for text between < and > characters, and removes it. That should work for basic HTML formatting tags, but it isn't 100% (it won't handle

Then after I run application, I get error that result of expression is not constructor, function etc.
Could you help me please? Thanks in advance.
Here is sample code:

No. I mean that the Flex framework makes certain assumptions about the environment it is running in -- like having a stage to work with. The Alert function, for example, works by creating a sprite and adding it to the Flash display list. Since your embedded SWF is not on a stage, there's no way for it to work.
You can can possibly use certain non-visual parts of the framework, such as the rpc package, but I can't guarantee it.
