Fuzzy titles - vector or bitmap?

I was searching the forums reading many posts about titling problems when I came across this...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3647315&#3647315
In the thread Jerry Hoffmann mentions that as long as you don't use motion to move 3D titles around they remain as vector graphics. Maybe I'm missing something here but I work in the printing industry and know a pixel from a vector. When I place a 3D title over a clip and enlarge the view in the viewer I can clearly see that it is soft and made up of pixels. Upon rendering the softness becomes even more pronounced. The title are clearly no longer vectors.
Am I misunderstanding Jerry or am I still doing something wrong?
Thanks all,
Mike Pulcinella

You're just enlarging the display in the Viewer and not affecting the image output. The viewer itself is pixel based and not a vector display. Enlarging the viewer is no way analogous to enlarging an image inside a vector graphics application like Illustrator. If you enlarge the Title 3D using the Controls tab to scale it you will see a vector response to the scaling process.
Once they are rendered they are rendered into DV CCIR601 pixels or whatever format you're working in, which is why you must animate using the Controls tab rather than the Motion tab of the Viewer.

  • Fuzzy titles in iMovie 4 and 3

    When putting scrolling block titles in iMovie, they look clear in the preview, but become all fuzzy in the project. I've looked and can't find any info. Surely this shouldn't be happening.

    Yes, titles are blurry on a computer screen, especially in iMovie 3. They will be fine when you watch on TV (from the camera or from a DVD).

  • Imovie HD 6 fuzzy titles

    Hello
    I have two imovie questions for imovie hd 6
    1. My titles seem to be fuzzy after I add them into a clip is that how they will look after I transfer them or will they be sharper when I transfer to DVD?
    2. I have a 3 minute movie so far, but it took imovie like 20min to save it, is that normal?
    Thank you for your help.

    I have heard that with some transitions and effects the titles can become blurry, so if you have any try taking them off. As for the second part, I don't know about saving, but sharing does take a long time.

  • Copy vectors as bitmap, and not svg

    Hello,
    I used to copy vectors from illustrator to softwares like Axure, with cmd+c and cmd+v. It worked pretty well until CC.
    Illustrator CC only copies vectors as SVG objects. So when you're in Axure, it copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object !! I understand the need for such a thing in HTML (even if I doubt that it will be often used), but I didn't find any turnaround to be able to copy this vector inside Axure, which is, in my opinion, the biggest use of the copy feature from illustrator to any other software (like Word for example, which also copies the SVG code and not the bitmap object)....
    Is there a way to copy the bitmap object instead of the SVG code ?
    Thanks !

    17.1 update released today for Illustrator CC contains a preference to turn off "SVG Code" copying to clipboard, uncheck this option to disable SVG code copying to clipboard.
    This should solve copy paste from Illustrator to Axure

  • Vector vs bitmap, gradient/transparency/filter performance questions on ios

    so i understand vector artwork is all done by cpu and drawn every frame and bitmaps can be loaded directly from ram using the gpu but when you have simple objects such a masks and static lines, is it more efficient to use vector graphics for a mask? or should it be a bitmap?   what about a line, since it is just a graphic made using a equation rather then wasting resources on a large picture?
    also when movieclips have filters on them such as bluring, it seems like it overlays multiple transparent copies of the image onto the selected movieclip. Does the cpu then have to multiply each colour of the transparent images to arive at the final blur? when i cache this as a bitmap and the edges are feathered/transparent does the gpu multiply the transparercies at the edges? or is it still the cpu that handles it?
    I also wanted to know how stressing gradients are on the cpu/gpu, as a bitmap i assume it is treated the same as any other image but as a vector is it more costley on the cpu to have it up on the stage than an image?
    if there is any tips for graphics on mobile devices i would love to hear them.

    When you put the images in a vector slideshow overlay you change the display experience. You'll see a low-res version of each image show up first, then the high-res version snap in. Many publishers don't like that experience. You make the overal folio side larger too, as we have to embed both the full-size image and the lower-quality thumbnail images.
    Unless you are creating a single edition application you should publish two renditions, one SD and one HD. Create your designs as 1024x768 InDesign documents and place images in your slideshows that are large enough to be nice on a retina ipad. Use a raster slideshow.
    Then use that source InDesign document to create articles in two folios: one at 1024x768 and one at 2048x1536. We'll be smart and scale the images in the slideshow based on the size of the folio. If you have a sidecar.xml file the work to create the second rendition in Folio Builder Panel is very fast. You can create an empty 2048x1536 PDF folio and import all the finished InDesign articles at once.
    Publish both folios and you're done. Beautiful content on SD, beautiful content on HD.

  • Fuzzy titles when disk is burned in iDVD

    I created a project in iDVD in order to be able to use the transitions and titling capability, as well as the buttons to move between parts of the project. Everything looks great while in iDVD, but when I burned it to a DVD there is a tremendous loss of detail and crispness in the titles.
    The slide show I created using images from iPhoto looks pretty good, but there is more of a loss of detail that I expected (or have seen in demo slide shows).
    Has anyone else experienced this problem??
    Thanks,
    Charles
    20" iMac (Intel proc)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Is the image that iDVD burns only able to be viewed
    on a TV? When I display the burned DVD on my
    computer - the image definition is very low.
    As I said, present DVDs were designed to be viewed on a TV set. For best viewing on a computer monitor, keep the window small (640x480 pixels - DON'T try for full screen.
    Is there any way to burn and image for viewing on
    another computer?
    You can create an HD Quicktime movie that you can put on a CD or DVD (depening on size of the movie). You will probably have to copy the movie to the computer's hard drive for playback, because the data transfer rate from an optical drive probably won't be high enough for good playback.

  • Turn lines (vector) into bitmap at runtime?

    After drawing some lines with moveTo and lineTo, how to convert them to bitmap so they do not lag if there are many. Thanks.

    Ok thanks, it makes more sense now.
    Ive now made it so it uses multiple movieclips, and caches each of them and a new line moves onto a new movieclip.. but it still has the same amount of lag, even if you draw 1 or 2 lines (2 movieclips)...
    here is the code:
    var layer = 1;
    var i = 0;
    var mcLine = "mcLine"+i;
    _root.createEmptyMovieClip(mcLine,layer);
    with (mcLine) {
              lineStyle(6,0,100,true,"normal","none","round",1);
              xPointA = _xmouse;
              yPointA = _ymouse;
    onMouseDown = function () {
              _root.createEmptyMovieClip(mcLine,layer);
              pressing = true;
              xPointA = _xmouse;
              yPointA = _ymouse;
    onMouseUp = function () {
              i++;
              mcLine = "mcLine"+i;
              pressing = false;
              mcLine.cacheAsBitmap = true;
              trace(mcLine);
    var pressing:Boolean = false;
    onMouseMove = function () {
              if (pressing) {
                        with (mcLine) {
                                  moveTo(xPointA,yPointA);
                                  xPoint = _xmouse;
                                  yPoint = _ymouse;
                                  lineTo(xPoint,yPoint);
                                  xPointA = _xmouse;
                                  yPointA = _ymouse;

  • My FCP titles are fuzzy, even after rendering.

    Creating some simple titles in FCP. They are fuzzy and look unrendered. I've tried rendering them every way I can. They don't show as needing rendering.
    How can I get these titles to render and appear normal (i.e. not fuzzy)?
    These are simple text titles, not a crawl or anything like that.

    Try using boris title3d. You need to understand the difference between vector and bitmapped graphics. Boris title3d allows you to work with "vector" text which will create the text for each frame at high resolution as long as you use the control tab to reposition and resize.
    It's much more flexible than the text generator.

  • Vector automatically converted to Bitmap

    Hi,
    I need a Card flip animation.I have a vector "Spade A" in a moviclip named mc.
    For the flip animation i want to apply "rotationY". When i apply mc.rotationY=45, It automatically converth the vector into Bitmap.
    i tryed mc.cacheAsBitmap=false;But still it converted to Bitmap.
    I need the rotationY as well as the card remain Vector. How to do this...
    Thanks,
    Siva

    My code is
    mc.cacheAsBitmap=false
    mc.rotationY=40;
    mc.cacheAsBitmap=false;
    its still seems still bitmap....is there any way to disable cacheAsBitmap?

  • Bitmap or vector based type?

    In CS5, I have read conflicting info that describes type in CS5 as vector based, similar to how it is in Illustrator, and other info that describes it as being composed of bitmaps.
    1. What is it? Vector or bitmap while it is inside a .PSD?
    2. I remember way back in the early days of Photoshop, people would import their .PSD into Illustrator to add type. Is there any reason to still do that now?
    Thanks.

    There are important distinctions to consider.
    As I understand things.....
    Live type, is vector type, the same as Illustrator or Indesign. It contains all the vector data as well as hinting. Hinting is a technology which tells output devices not only what to draw but how to draw it, as in, draw this line fist starting from here. Hinting is exceptionally helpful when working with small type sizes (roughly 10pt or smaller). PSD layered files with Live Type will always print well because the type contains Hinting.
    Files such as EPS or PDF can contain vector data, therefore if you save a Photoshop document as an EPS you get vector outlines of the type. However, vector outlines do not contain Hinting. So, if you have type smaller than 10pts, Photoshop may not be the best tool to use since small type benefits greatly from Hinting.
    TIFF, JPG, BMP, etc, are raster formats without vector data. So, in these cases you get bitmap art which appears like type, not live type, or even vector outlines. The "type" is subject to pixelation just as any raster data is.
    Based on the above, it's your choice what to use. Chances of the naked eye seeing the difference between 8pt type with hinting or without are slim, but it's there. As a general rule, I don't set type in Photoshop for print projects. That is, unless it's display type which is to be seen more as art than type.

  • Export Premiere title to bitmap format

    Hello all,
    I'm in the process of building an end credit roll and am surprised to see there's apparently no way to export the title to any bitmap format.
    The roll is many times the screen height, so exporting and stitching several 1920x1080 frames is not practical. The reason I wish to export the title is for review by other people not on-site. It would be so much more convenient to hand around a PNG rather than render and transfer a lengthy video clip.
    Have I missed something and such a feature does exist? I hope so.
    Cheers

    For full editing of a PrPro Title, in Photoshop, I have been filing Feature Requests for many years now, with no inclusion.
    One CAN Export/Save a PrPro Title as a Template. That will be written as a PTRL, where directed. However, only Premiere can Open a PTRL. Photoshop cannot, and that has been my request.
    Craig and Ann have given you some workarounds, that should work for what you need, but if PS could just Open a PRTL, one would have a simple solution.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How Do I Get Images to Preview with out Bitmapped & Rough Edges?

    Using InDesign CS (Mac)
    I think I read in the manual that vector, and bitmap files will look pixelated when viewed in InDesign.
    Is there any way to have my images (tifs, jpgs, vectors etc.) look smooth when previewing in Indesign. I can't get a good feel for how the final design looks when all the images are so bitmapped.
    Thanks

    Hi, All, I have the same problem, very annoying... I'm doing all of the above and my JPG images display very poorly, pixelated and horrible. When I export to PDF, they look gorgeous, as they do in Photoshop. Why can't I see them the same way in IDCS3? Running Version 5.0.2 on an iMac G5.
    Cmd-opt-shift-Y does nothing to improve the display
    In Preferences > Display Performance all my settings are on High Quality
    And yes, all the links are up-to-date...
    Any other ideas?

  • Why does my type look bitmapped (jaggies)

    Why does my title type look bitmapped (jaggies)? It's fine in iMovie but looks crappy once I burn the DVD. The max. resolution is 720 x 540.

    Hi
    There are at least two levels on this Q:
    • iMovie'08 to 11 can not deliver Interlaced SD-Video over to iDVD but discard every second line resulting in a quality loss. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
    • The way one goes from iM'08 to 11 to iDVD matters to a GREAT degree. I never use in any version of iMovie "Share to iDVD" as this set's off iMovie rendering function - and it's bad. I do.
    Share to Media Browser - and as Large - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the out-come.

  • Why do vector graphics appear pixelated when zoomed in, isn't fireworks meant to support vectors?

    I am new to using Fireworks, but I thought it would be great since it has both vector and bitmap support. However, when I work with vector tools and a vector image I imported from Illustrator, if I zoom into the image, it appears as though it's a bitmap. Also, if I were to resize the image down 25% and then bring it back up to a size similar to what it was at, it will look distorted and the quality will have changed? Why is this? I do this in Illustrator with no such results. I thought vectors should be able to be resized up, down, or up and down and they should look relatively the same. Any ideas, what is going on?
    I have screenshots of this happening which I posted on a different forum. But if you want to see the screen shots, go here.

    PLEASE HELP. Thanks in advance! I would really like to use fireworks, but with this issue I might have to use illustrator and ditch fireworks all together.

    I realized Sitepoint wont let you see the screenshots without logging in (stupid)
    Here is my graphic in illustrator:
    Here is the graphic imported into Fireworks and you can see how bad it looks when I resize it.
    You see how the starting image looks VERY different from the image after the resize. why?!?!?!?!?!??!?
