Gaming - Battlefield:Bad Company 2

I have the 2nd best iMac currently available, and I'm trying to play video games on it with Bootcamp. I just got the new Battlefield: Bad Company: 2, but the performance issues are mind boggling. All explosions just lag it to ****. Turning down the graphics settings doesn't do much to alleviate this, the only thing that seems to work well is reducing the resolution, but then it just looks like garbage if I do that. My best guess is that Apple completely screwed up by putting a 256MB video card in a widescreen (2560x1440) resolution monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? Honestly I think this is the last time I purchase a Mac, I can't believe I wasted 1700$ on this crap!

I am a long time user of Macs, but can claim quite some experience with PC's too. Also a long time gamer on both platforms. And as a graphic designer on actually making a few games. So...
Before you get totally in a twist about it what screen setting have you chosen for the game?
If you have have set it to 2560x1440, I doubt you can find a PC except the highest end gaming machine that could handle the game at full quality at that resolution. Set your screen resolution for somewhere around 1280x720 and you will probably find that the game will run very well. *Also turn off antialiasing*. In most game graphics you don't need it.
I have the iMac 27" 3.06 +(the basic one!)+ and Boot Camp running Windows 7, with all the updates. On there I play at incredibly high quality, *Modern Warfare 2*, *CoD 5 WaW*, *Fallout 3*, *Call of Juarez*, *Assassin's Creed*, *Prince of Persia*, *Company of Heroes* and god knows what else. They all look absolutely breath-takingly cinematic. I should also mention that I have played many of the above as Cider ports on this Mac to great results.
And interestingly I'm running them off an NTFS formatted USB 2 external disc, in an Icy Box. The disc by the way is an old 250 gig internal disc from my old G4 Quicksilver +(so a slower IDE disc, not even a fast new one and on USB!)+. And all this running without a hitch. Apart from the fact that Windows 7 is still full of glitches, as with all Windows and MS products.
Not to mention that all games usually need at least two or three patches and updates before they run really smoothly. Not forgetting also that most games do not even have 2560x1440 really implemented on them yet.
Another couple of points.
One: *You must update all your firmware on the iMac, there were problems with the 27" which the firmware updates corrected completely.*
Two: *There are some very essential updates for Boot Camp to run Windows 7, also good for any other version of Windows you may be running, find them and apply them.*
Three: *Windows 7 needs a bunch of updates too. Also very importantly you must have the ATI Boot Camp screen control panel installed on your Windows partition.*
Believe me it is an amazing thing that Windows runs on these machines at all, and I am thoroughly blown away by the quality of performance I get on this from Windows. I even ran Fallout 3 on my Mac under Parallel Desktops, and I could actually play it. Not brilliant but playable.

  • White Screen in Battlefield Bad company 2

    When playing BFBC2 on windows XP, (this is all I do with Windows) I get a white screen that takes over everything. Sound still plays and the screen will come back once in a while but it isn't possible to play the game. I've messed with DirectX and updated all the drivers, is this a game problem or is my mac not capable?

    I also have this problem. Spent hours on the phone with the company. They don't seem to want to admit the problem exists, and instead have told me that they cannot troubleshoot this further because bootcamp is not supported. My machine is a imac 2.8 core duo 2 with a ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
    graphics chip. What is the config of your computer? I am using bootcamp with windows xp service pack 3

    I guess that isn't the problem with X-Fi. That's the game itself. Not only people who have X-Fies are crashing. My friend has onboard Realtek codec and he experienced that problem. You can also check the BFBC2 forums to see what I'm talking about. So stop screwing your driver settings and system. Wait for proper patch. Meantime I've got a solution which helped me so you can also try it. The idea is to forbid the game from running on all four CPU cores. Dunno about 2 core processors. I think the performance hit will be very serious if the game will be running on a single core.
    1. Launch BFBC2Game.exe from game's directory (not the?BFBC2Updater.exe, as usual). Wait till you get into main menu (skip intros etc).
    2. Press ALT+ENTER to go to window mode (if you're going to alt+tab, get ready for pain in the @$$ cause the game will try to bring back its window after every switching of window's focus).
    3. Launch Task Manager, navigate to "Processes" tab and find BFBC2Game.exe in the list.
    4. Right click it and choose "Set Affinity...". Uncheck one of the cores (I usually disable CPU 3). Press ok.
    5. Close the Task Manager, switch to game's window and press ALT+ENTER to go fullscreen again.
    6. Log-in, connect to a server and try playing.

    I have a add-on and  on running it the add-on is unable to connect to a particular company. It shows an error named as "Bad Company Version". The add-on however, connects to other company in B1.Anyone please help me in this regard.

    you need to update the company.
    this message comes when you upgraded your business one but you didn't upgrade the company.
    make a backup, log in your sap with manager and upgrade the company.

  • My router is blocking ports on PS3 - Bad Company - Can't Create Squads. WRT160Nv3

    Hey Guys,
    I have read every where that the best thing to do is "dmz" my router or something of that nature. I'm a complete noobie when it comes to this sort of thing. I don't know how to assign a Static IP. I don't know if this means I have to call my ISP too assign me a Static IP or if I just have to assign an IP to my PlayStation and then Add that IP too the Router? Ugh, I'm just lost when It comes to this stuff. I need a simple BreakDown. If anyone can give me one.?.
    I get a NAT - 2 connetion. 97% Signal Strength. 14 MB up 1 MB Down. The only thing I can't do *that I know of so far* is create my own squad in Bad company, People just get an error. I can join squads, at least certain squads. I assume the squads I can't join are ones that are on routers and have the same problem as myself. 
    I assume that this is because ports are being blocked by the router. I asked the guy who installed my internet if they Blocked ports and he said they don't block ports. So I assume it's the router. Can anyone help me Unblock the ports on my router.....like " Unblocking your ports for dummies "

    At the point, I think I would be ecstatic to get 3 Mbps.  When I first agreed to this plan years ago, I was supposed to get the highest speed available which I think was in the 7 - 15 Mbps range.  I never got that but it was like pulling teeth to get any help.  The last time I tried, some put in an order for FiOS after I repeatedly told them I was not interested and I ended up with no phone or internet access for more than a week, so I finally gave up and settled for what I had because it was sufficient for my needs.  Over the years, the speed has steadily dropped as the push toward FiOS has steadily and very aggressively increased.  Although I have never changed it, my account now says that my speed is supposed to be 3.1 - 7 Mbps and, of course, there is no record to be found anywhere that it was ever any higher than that.  Now my speed has dwindled to a consistent download speed of .40 to .41 Mbps and a consistent upload speed of .77 Mbps, so to get to 3 Mbps would mean a 6X increase for me.  As slow as it is right now, it's practically impossible for me to even pay my bills or check my email, so I'm seriously considering dropping Verizon for good. 

  • Problem: Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset

    I have one of these Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset, which are 7..
    I have Windows 7 as OS on my computer and it gives me a few problems.
    W7 recognises the headset as a "Stereo" headset. The headset has a Sound Card of it's own and uses the drivers that come with the Installation CD for Surround settings that are mad in Audio Control Panel or Creative Entertainment Console.
    This is a problem.
    For example. Playing Call of Duty 5: World at War.
    The audio settings on this game, always (and is unchangeable) goes after the default Audio Device. And then it recognises my Headset. And puts in STEREO config. Since it was W7 recognises, and I cant change that on the game and neither on the Audio Settings on the computer. Which make the subwoffer and Surround effects useless which is a hard bummer, since it's such an awesome headset and is totally awesome when i play Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
    I really want to know how I can fix this! Please help me. Any settings or special config in the cfg files you can do on Call of Duty 5 or and settings or stuff I can do to change so W7 recognises my headset with the 7.!

  • 4G online gaming doesnt work why? i need someone who actually cares to help me plse!!!

    my modem is Pantech UML290     .i  notice cannot play any online games...my old 3g modem works perfectly with the same games but this new service as far as online games or this modem apparently has issues...i have had nothing but problems, high ping rates and packet loss as well as jitter and no one with the exception of 1 service tech apparently cares...they only care that you can connect and brows web to a degree....i have spoke to 8 techs only one cares and states their is a problem....i have tested this on speedtest.com upload and download speed is fast remarkably fast but inconsistant, the ping is terible and jitter and packet loss is even worse...i am going to try to replace the modem as last form of troubleshoooting, if that doesnt work then 4g can go in the trash until they resolve the problem....they advertise online gameing and video streaming for 4g...i cannot do online gaming will not even connect to game host due to high pings and data loss...and yet the new service wich is supposed to be much better and support online gaming doesnt work and my 3g device works without a problem, can play games all day long without i hitch and no one from tech can explain why....sounds like a problem..i have spoke with several people on forums they have all said the same thing....release tech and dontr know how to fix the problems....the response you will get is all we care about is that you can connect and view the web!!! wow so when i buy a car i guess all they care about is the car moves, they dont care if the ac worrks or anything else does to...thats the way its been explained to me time and time again...except for 1 tech...   the games that i have tried to play is BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2,     CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 ,  STARCRAFT 2,  noNE will work,  note been playing with old 3g device and service for over a yr with no problems!!  SOMEONE PLSE HELP!!!

    I live out in the country and have no high speed internet so i bought the pantech UML290 and I have been able to play on the 4g network right out of the box. Plugin, install, and go. I Play Bad Company2 and my ping is usually 142. I connect to a chicago server from okc and my gameplay has improved so much more. I get 2 to 3 bars in my house and it flys on web pages.  I had the at@t lightning 3g and my pings on the same server were 185 but spiked up to 999 and back down to 180's . I love this UML290 and do not have Idea why you are having problems. I would return the uml and get another one. You might make sure the other communication software is uninstalled and worst case scenario, reformat the hard drive and start with a fresh install.  Can you give a description of your computer specs ?  Is this going through a cradlepoint router ? I would be happy to try to help, I know how much it sucks have a laggy gaming experience.  

  • WRT54G and multiple wireless machine (including gaming)

    I had bought (as you can clearly see in the subject ) a WRT54G, as I wanted one to play online with the Wii and Playstation 3 (Mario Kart and Battlefield: Bad Company, in case you're interested ).
    I also bought a Laptop (I was on a roll ), with <drum rolls> Wireless Support (duh) ... I was thinking though, comparing it to the Wireless-N series ... will I have any problems in games? Or will I have performance decreases? When someone is browsing and downloading via the laptop, and another person is playing a game ... will that affect each other?
    What I mean to say, if you want something like this router for doing this stuff, is it a good router, or just acceptable? Will an N-router be a WAY better choice?
    I still have a problem setting it up too, but that's a different issue. Sad isn't it ... starting CCIP, and having problems setting up a home wireless router .

    I know a wireless N router can do the same.
    What I mean is, is it reliable for online gaming? I have this WRT54G router, and I want to use it for gaming and a normal use of a laptop, but who knows, maybe also streaming videos (I tend to watch game and movie trailers). For me that's just "normal" use, I don't plan to download huge load of data with this connection, therefor I got a wired connection. And even if I had only a laptop, I'd connect it to a Ethernet port directly on the router.
    I was playing Battlefield: Bad Company yesterday on the PS3, and I got sort of a laggie connection. With these console gaming, it's not usual it seems to connect to a server you want to connect to, but you're just connected to one. I have no idea what the ping response to this server is, and I can't see any troubleshooting methods on it either.
    To be clear, for this use, and next year we'll be moving to a new house with concrete walls / floors, now it's wood ... what is best to do, to ditch the WRT54G and get a 160N ? Especially the gaming, I just don't want to get used to laggy gaming.

  • AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express and STILL lag in Battlefield

    Hello,
    I recently purchased an AirPort Express, hoping to increase speeds of my wifi (currently getting around 10-13 mbps) so when I play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on my Xbox 360 on Live, I wouldn't lag out.
    Well, it did nothing. The Express is plugged in directly behind the XBox 360, so I can run ethernet to the AirPort and give my Xbox an N signal. That didn't help. So I disconnected the ethernet and hoped maybe the wireless would be fast for some reason. Well, I still lag through the match (not consistently, but at least several times each match I attempt to play) and 2/3 games I don't even get to finish because it kicks me out. I've considered going through the trouble of port forwarding but the last time I tried that, I saw no difference and thought I may have done something wrong. If there are any suggestions or very accurate walkthroughs for port forwarding, setting up a DMZ/default host, etc., let me know please. I'd love to enjoy my games on Xbox. But something tells me these Airp

    If you want to try wireless again, you can give this a shot. I just discovered it, and it seems to have solved issues for me.
    Open AirPort Utility; select your Extreme and/or Express and choose manual setup. 
    Click >Wireless
    Change Radio Mode to 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g
    Click >Wireless Network Options
    Change Transmit Power to 50%
    Check >Use interference robustness < This step is purely optional. It's worth a shot. 
    I've been noticing issues with performance of my Time Capsule for a while.
    It really started with lack of good range, followed by lousy performance with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I was lucky to get 10% of what my speed really is (1.5 Mbps vs. 15.9 Mbps). My iMac was the only thing that seemed unaffected.
    I attempted to setup a Sony Media Player (stay away from them- junk!) then a Roku XD in my bedroom only 20' down the hall from the Time Capsule (direct line of sight). Signal kept dropping and performance was lousy for both. I want another new Apple TV for the bedroom, but that TV doesn't have an HDMI port. I ended up running an ethernet cable down the hall... until this morning.
    After some digging, I found a forum talking about WiFi performance for iPhones and stumbled upon something kinda basically unrelated, but gave me the idea to dig into AirPort Utility a bit deeper. Changing power to 50% didn't sound logical, but lowering output power was mentioned in the forum. AirPort Utility goes from 100% to 50% then lower. Nothing between 50% and 100%. I'll know more about range later today, but I have a feeling it may be mysteriously improved as well.
