GarageBand 10.0 is almost unusable

GarageBand 10.0 is almost a complete failure.
Though it doesn't crash on me, it constantly freezes quite often, so often its almost unusbale. I would expect this on a 3 year old mac, but not a 4 month old one that's top of the rangeat the time (Late 2012 Slim). Quad i7, 2GB Video, 16GB Ram.
Also I don't know if the settings are still there like the old version. The old version had the 'Edit' option where you could do Effect, Cutoff, Release, and also effects, reverb etc, i can no longer find half of it in the new version.
At the moment I hate it and would rather use the old version although without the use of Logic Pro sounds since the new version does use them.

after taking so long with making a quick track atfer all the stupid freezes. Managed to export a track (quicker than older version). I saved the project, I hit a problem, Logic Pro X doesn't open the GarageBand 10.0 file, it opens but there two blank tracks in there.

  • My iMac is now almost unusable! Thanks Lion!!

Upgraded to 10.7.2 Lion and now my system is so slow it's rendered itself almost unusable. On top of that my internet drops out at every gust of wind, resulting in my having to restart it every 15 minutes!! We are a retail comany ramping up big time now for Xmas printing and I can't work with this any more. On top of that, my machine has spent 4 days in the apple store being rebuilt from scratch, thanks to Lion upgrade!!
Thanks, Apple - to whom do I complain please?!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search. A text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/com\.apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Step 4
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, steps 1-4 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Updated 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) a few days ago. Now having "Not Responding" message almost everytime I use Firefox. Long delays until it responds. Almost unusable now.

Downloaded update to Firefox 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) on 12-16-11. Update status was successful. Now Firefox delays with "Not Responding" message almost every time I click on something. Browser is almost unusable.

You are welcome. I'm glad you got it back up.
    (1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
    (2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
    (3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.
    (4) Add some SARE rules:
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/rules.htm and download the following rules:
    70sareadult.cf
    70saregenlsubj0.cf
    70sareheader0.cf
    70sarehtml0.cf
    70sareobfu0.cf
    70sareoem.cf
    70sarespoof.cf
    70sarestocks.cf
    70sareunsub.cf
    72sare_redirectpost
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/other-rules.htm and download the following rules:
    backhair.cf
    bogus-virus-warnings.cf
    chickenpox.cf
    weeds.cf
    Copy these rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin/
Then stop and restart mail services.
There are other things you can do, and you'll find differing opinions about such things. In general, I think implementing the "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server" and adding the SARE rules will help a lot. Good luck!

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • 2010 Macbook Pro is running SUPER slow.  Almost unusable.

My 2010 Macbook Pro is running so slow that it's almost unusable due to the buffering of data and the color wheel spinning incessantly.  I close applications, restart and nothing helps.  I have not downloaded any clean up software.  I teach and am dependent on my computer for EVERYTHING I do.
    HELP PLEASE!!

Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Determine if the same problems exist in "Safe Mode". Read below.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
If you are still experiencing problems more information will be required. If you don't know where to start, EtreCheck can help with that. Read below.
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Do not download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.

  • Update to 10.10.3 Failed Now MacPro is Almost Unusable

The update to 10.10.3 failed -- got stuck at 99% so I powered down and after many attempts I got back to the desktop.  I am now still on 10.10.2 but my MacPro has slowed to a crawl.  I was advised that Yosemite needs more memory (I have 2GB) so I ordered 8GB more and it's on its way.  However I need to use my computer but it's almost unusable -- programs open so slow then automatically shut down.  I really don't think the memory will fix this as I've been running Yosemite for a while and just in the last few days has it been brought to it's knees.
Is there anything else that I can check to see why it is so so so slow?
    Thanks

  • When Add-ons download, it slows my laptop down til it is almost unusable. Do I need them and if not, how do I stop them?

I am not really sure what these Add-ons do and do not know if I need them. When they download (automatically), they slow my laptop down to the point of almost being unusable. If I don't absolutely need them, how do I keep them from automatically downloading and slowing down my computer?

  • Almost Unusable System

For days now it has been almost impossible to use the BT system and emails.  I log in and although the email page loads it hangs there saying 'transferring data from.'.  Without it loading properly it is also impossible to sign out again.  I raised an issue of not being able to log in properly a few days ago and was told that BT was aware there was a problem, since then the system has got worse and worse.  This evening I have not been able to use the email system at all.  I don't know if this is a line speed problem or what but I am heartily sick of paying for a system which is basically unusable.  Even the BT website itself seems to take an eternity to load.  Is this a general problem or does BT have some serious issues.  I have checked for faults on my line and am told it is fine.

  • Acrobat 9.4 now almost unusable

I posted a question about a week ago, 31 views but sadly no suggestions.
I've had Acrobat Pro running now for a couple of months, but over the last couple of weeks it is taking longer and longer for every action, it loads files normally but the response time for every click is more than ten seconds. It really has become practically unusable, even as a simple PDF reader.
I have tried contacting Adobe support, but every time I try and 'send' the email I end up with an 'I'm sorry an error has occurred' etc. I've had to give up trying.
My question is twofold, anybody got any ideas about the slowing down and anybody got any ideas about how I can contact Adobe?
The strange thing is that it used to work perfectly, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and checked on FAQs, but have found no answers, just hoping somebody out there can help.

  • PS CS4 almost unusable with snow leopard

Installed Snow Leopard.  Ran the adobe uninstall for CS3 then did a fresh install of CS4.  Downloaded all the updates.  When I open Photoshop I get a constant stream of the same error message that reads "Could not complete your request because of a program error" screen shot attached.  It makes Photoshop pretty much unusable.  I'm not having the same problems with Illustrator.  I'm working on a MacBook Pro w/ 1.83 GHz Intel Processor and 1.5 GB 667 Mhz Memory.  If anyone could help me suss out the problem I'd be eternally grateful.
    Cheers,
    Bummersville

I have run CS4 with Snow Leopard installed by three different methods:
    1. Default Upgrade method to my Leopard volume
    2. Erase and install SL then migrate everything from my Leopard volume.
    3. Erase and install SL, install fresh CS4, no migration, no other software installed
All three crash Bridge and Photoshop frequently, especially while using the output module to make PDF contact sheets (crashes while entering the settings).
1 and 2 also crash on quitting the prog, (but my Leopard has spells of doing that too)
    Machine is Mac Pro 4 x 2.66 ver 1,1 with 8Gb RAM
Did all the standard stuff before and after installs, permissions, DU etc plus PRAM, SMC. Also trashed the prefs in Bridge and CS4.
The fact that the "erase/install/CS4 only" method crashes tells me that there is something hardware related in my machine (and probably other peoples too) which SL + CS4 doesn't like, and that there is no point in chasing software solutions.
I would be grateful if anyone who is having no problems with CS4 and Snow Leopard could spend a few minutes making contact sheets with the output module...use all the options. I have successfully done several contact sheets, but also had most crashes while entering the settings.
    Thanks

  • Desktop is so unstable it is almost unusable

I have always loved my Blackberry and even wnet out on a limb to get work to buy my latest for me... boss is partial to android... Anyway I am finally getting to the point that I am embarassed and am almost to the point that I may switch to an android... So many things are going south on my phone proper (code exceptions, freezaing, randomw reboots, synching issues, cannot actually answer phone calls when I get them, etc etc etc...), but also the Desktop software has been so bad for so long with no change or improvement that I really do not know what to do... Over 90 % of the time when I run the desktop it aborts... Closes becausae of errors... AT what point do we say enough!?!?! Any suggestions?

Ugh, this is painful. I've tried to delete all of my recurring events, but the last one will NOT delete. My computer hangs, the laptop fan starts going, the computer gets super hot. Spinning ball. My plan was to delete all of my recurring events, and make new ones with end dates. But any time I click on this one event the program hangs. This is terrible.

  • Mac gets gradually slower until it's almost unusable

A couple of months ago something got corrupted on my hard drive which caused the computer to not boot properly. I was able to back it up, repair the drive, and reinstall the OS.
Everything was fine, but things seemed to be slower, though that could just be in my head.
Fast forward to now... I always leave my computer on. Yeah. I hate the environment. I came in one day and my computer had powered down sometime during the night, so I rebooted it and noticed that my battery no longer charges. I keep my computer plugged in, so not sure if the battery issue would have powered down my computer in and of itself. It shouldn't have.
Then I noticed slowness. Like unbearable slowness - just using Office and surfing the web. A lot of pages become unresponsive and/or take forever to load. It's not my internet connection. I was able to finally get a speedtest to load and speed was fine (25mbps down and 20 up). Also, I have a bunch of other computers, including an Air and they were fine on the same network. Also, EVERYTHING becomes slow, not just my browser. Even System Preferences and Finder take forever to open (spinning beachball).
It's not RAM, diskspace or CPU, based on looking at my activity monitor, so the only think I can think is perhaps my hard drive is failing.
If I close everything and reboot, then speed will resume back to normal, but then it will start to slow again after a few hours of usage. I guess the other thing it could be is one of the programs I run. I generally run Chrome, Outlook, word, excel, powerpoint, itunes (streaming via icloud), Lync and Skype. I supposed it could be one of those programs, but nothing in Activity Monitor shows any high usage by any one process.
I have an appointment to take my computer in, but my fear is that it'll be running fine. I have to be doing things for a few hours before it becomes super super slow. It almost seems like a memory leak somewhere.
I've run disk utility and it can't find anything wrong with the hard drive. The drive isn't making any strange noises or clicking. My computer does take about a minute to boot up these days though. I don't recall it being that sluggish before, but maybe it was.
Any ideas on what could be the problem or recommendations for other things to try? I was unable to successfully do a Hardware Test. I tried a zillion times (booting up while pressing "D") and nada.

  • CS6 from great performance to almost unusable performance; non-profit non-tech guy... help!

IF anyone has any suggestions on things to try:
The last few months, I’ve noticed a real decline in my computer’s performance, especially re: Adobe Creative Suite. Running i7-3520M 2.9GHz 8 GB RAM 64 bit INTEL HD graphics 4000. Windows 8.1. 883 GB internal drive of which 209 GB is free. Creative Suite CS6. Handling 1920x1080 @ 23.976 from the t3i.
This system used to run FLAWLESSLY. I realize my specs aren’t the greatest, esp the graphics card, but this used to be a real workhorse when I first got it and through the first year or two. Ok, I’ll admit. The project I’m referring to below was done off of the internal hard drive. I know this is a no-no, but in the past I’ve cheated like this and haven’t had issues. I will try to eliminate the hard drive being a possibility but have a hunch that the problem is more complex.
The last few months, notice things like Photoshop freezing for a few seconds here and there. Illustrator acting wonky. Shortcuts in Premiere spontaneously changing or eliminating themselves (for example Spacebar randomly stopped working as transport in Premiere). In general, Premiere is now a sh**show.
Most concerning: in editing a project in Premiere yesterday, the system has become almost unresponsive. Dropped frame indicator going wild, video just not really playing when it’s out on the timeline. Audio might play, but video freezes up. Not immediately responsive when using JKL transport controls. Even when I render the timeline and even when I’m watching in ¼ resolution. Still the same mostly unresponsive performance.
In addition to Adobe problems, other things are happening like Office products becoming unresponsive or freezing up momentarily. Browser takes a long time to load. I asked the guy that repaired my screen to “tune up” the computer and make it faster. The guy seemed to know what he was doing. HE mentioned that he had “defragmented” and “updated the graphics card drivers” and that the hard drive was in “good shape.” Really I don’t know what he did. I don’t have proof, but the computer actually seems a lot slower since getting it back, ESPECIALLY Adobe CS. Could this be a system-wide problem or mostly Adobe, and is this something that I don't have the knowledge base to handle?

Ah ha, so the computer could ostensibly function but not the more ram or processor intensive applications? CS still pretty much works. Photoshop works well enough. I was able to actually edit something on Premiere, it just really really really was slow and lagging. In the Premiere settings, I have like 6 GB RAM allotted. Is there a test or way to figure out if it is indeed a bad RAM stick?
