General web question

Hi,
I'm looking for the example code or package for web page index when displaying search result.
One good example of this is the www.google.com. Whenever the search result more than 10 items, then the 'page index' will be provided to display the subsequece result.
Is there anyone can recommend an example code which can be downloaded, please reply here.
wikey

Do a google search (hehe) on Information Retrieval (IR) and Information Extraction (IE), natural language parsing techniques... I have developed code for IE (kind of a super-ask-jeeves), but search engines use IR (here are 1000000 hits, i'm sure its in here somewhere), and I haven't really done much with it. Search engines use things like Wordnet to generate the query based on synonyms of the words you have entered, bring them back to their base using 'stemming', and then order the results according to the number and combination of query words found in each doc.
That should get you started conceptually.

  • General Web Question - Image Upload Website Connection Fails

    Curious thing...
    Using Tablet on WiFi - connected...
    I can upload an image etc...
    But it seems when I am on 4G - it will not upload an image and times out - saying website connection lost...
    I know this is vague - but I'm perplexed... As the other sites on the tablet run fine...
    The upload image portion is a popup screen...
    So wondering if I'm having connectivity problems or what...
    Thx...
    Marlin

    If you are talking about a JEE application or any application that uses the HTTP protocol and HTML (XHTML too), no it is not possible to upload an entire folder at once just by naming the folder. All you can do is let the user identify individual files to be uploaded, though you CAN have more than one file uploaded in a single submission.
    This is a security feature of HTTP and HTML - nothing gets uploaded that the user didn't EXPLICITLY name. It protects you from having websites steal data from your computer without your knowledge and permission. This is enforced by the browser.
    Can you get around this? Yes, there are a few ways. Instead of writing a web application that uses HTML, you could write a Java applet. When an applet runs, the user must give it permission to run - since it is actually executing on the user's machine, not the server. When it tries to do certain tasks with security implications, like access the user's file system, the user must again give permission. The user can choose to be asked every time, or give permanent authorization. But at that point the applet can do anything that any application on the user's machine can do.
    Or you could configure Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) on your web server, which extends the HTTP protocol to allow users to read and write files on certain DAV-enabled folders on the web server. Windows Explorer knows how to connect DAV-enabled websites as if they were file servers. Oracle also provides a few ways to use DAV to upload and download data to and from the database, through XMLDB and through the OraDAV module of Oracle Application Server.

  • General dreamwevaer question

    hello dreamweavers.
    im a newbie going to use dreamweaver from next week and beyond,so id like to ask the following:
    should i design the website in photoshop and then import it into dreamwevaer,in order to code it?
    is dreamwevaer flexible in design point of view,or is it mostly getting finished designs such as headers,footers,flash banners,
    and then building up the site where things so and such.
    thank you.

    Hello Nancy.
    seems like an informative website,i can see it is easy to understand the

  • Can I use coherence as follows? (General architecture question)

    I'm working on creating a "web service" that will typically
    - Receive a request and log it.
    - Process
    - Reply to "client" and log it.
    The idea is to put the logs into the grid and finally to SOR?
    Of course the logs need to be parsed, searchable etc...
    Does the above make sense?
    And some general questions...
    If coherence is configured as partitioned do you really need a SOR, can it replace the SOR?
    Can I have coherence running on seperate machines and the web service on other servers?

    It makes perfect sense.
    You can use a CacheStore to asynchronously ("write behind") to write your log entries to the system of record. You can implement a LogEntry class which would wrap the log messages, and expose getters for the attributes you wished to query by. You can configure an evication policy to determine how long LogEntry's should remain in Coherence.
    So long as you have sufficient memory for the amount of data you wish to store (and backups, if necessary), yes Coherence can replace your SOR.
    Yes, Coherence can run on different servers. Your web service layer can be configured as a "storage disabled" cluster member, or connect to the cache servers using Extend.

  • General hosting question for India

    We are developing a web site using JSC and it is intended for India market.
    I guess it is not particular JSC technical question but in general and may be people can share their experience or give some thoughts about it.
    It will be deployed using Tomcat and MySQL.
    As reading forums we found some hosting site like dailyrazaor in US.
    So just wondering if it is hosted in US, will it be slow as compare to if hosted in India?
    Do people see any other issue with this?
    Does anybody know any good web hosting in India using Tomcat and MySQL or some other good site in US.
    Thanks for your time.

    Not sure of any India based hosting site.
    But just from observation, when I download some file, normally site provides some mirror sites and recommend to download from the mirror which is closer to you. So I guess where the site is hosted will contribute some effect as request will route through number of servers.

  • BW Bex query and Webi question

    Hi All.
    Just a quick question on Bex queries. We are selecting a Bex query as a source for universe. However on the webi side we only want to see a subset of the data.
    1) The question is Would this rerun the entire BEX query on the BW side ? Or is there a better way to design the universe ?
    2) Also are there any best practices on how to desing Webi reports from BW BEX queries and also Infocubes etc ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi puneet,
    The WebI builds a query on the BEx results. The query is related only to those items used in the WebI report. However, the BEx query must have the results in it, as the WebI does not execute it. I am not aware of a best practices document.

  • A few general agent questions

    We've been asked some general questions by our agents that I have been unable to find answers for, (although 4 and 5 are likely working as designed). We are running IPCC Express 7.0(1)SR05_Build504 and these are all phone agents. We do not run the agent desktop client. Any assistance in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated.
    1. TransfertoVM softkey "grayed out" while on a CSQ call. Can it be enabled?
    2. While logged in to CSQ, is there a way to start dialing prior to
    lifting the receiver?
    3. Is it possible to handle more than one CSQ call at a time, e.g. put a call on hold and answer
    another CSQ call.
    4. Upon selecting Agent Login (single-button login), can the agent automatically be put into Ready?
    5. Upon Logout, can the phone be returned to the main screen, rather than getting the manual agent login screen?
    Again, any assistance in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Roger

    Hi
    1) Isn't that an IPMA softkey? Never tried it, but whilst it's not in the 'unsupported' list, I wouldn't expect using any IPMA features in conjunction with CAD would get you good results. If it doesn't cause you stuck/ghost calls, I would expect erroneous reports...
    2) Being logged into a CSQ doesn't affect the way the phone works.
    - You can dial the number then either lift the handset or hit dial (for speakerphone)
    - You can press speakerphone or headset then dial
    I guess what you are referring to is if you are using the IP Phone Agent in conjunction with a headset? If you are, then the IPPA usually obscures the 'new call' and 'end call' softkeys that you might use if you leave the headset button lit. I guess this isn't the case, as you refer to lifting the receiver? Unless you have motorized lifters.. If that's what you have, you can try getting users to either :
    - Manage their onhook/offhook state using the headset key as if it was the speakerphone key (i.e. press it to hang up or pickup)
    - Use a headset/phone combination that supports HHC
    - Switch to CAD, or CAD-BE if you can't install PC software for some reason.
    3) No. The system is designed specifically so that this should never happen.
    4) No.
    5) Again, no... you can't customize the BIPPA service... If you use CAD or CAD-BE this wouldn't be an issue.

  • Workflow and General Use Questions

    Hello,
    I'll apologize right off the bat for these novice question because I'm sure the information is probably somewhere in the forum, I just haven't been able to find it. I just purchased Aperture after completing the demo as my library is getting too large to manage using standard file folders. I'm now trying to figure out the best practices for workflow and general use before I invest some serious time into importing and keywording all my pictures.
    1) Store files in the there current location, or in the Aperture Library? It seems to me that once they are moved to the Aperture library, you can only access them from within Aperture. I'm thinking I would be better off leaving them in their current location. For one, if I want to quickly grab a picture as an attachment to an email or something it seems easier to grab it from the standard folders. Second (and more important) I do not have room to keep all my pictures on my Macbook, thus most of them are stored on the Time Capsule.
    So... Keeping photos in their current location appears to be the best choice for me even though it adds an additional step every time I bring in new photos from my camera. Does this sound right?
    2) Is there a way to mark the photos that I have uploaded to my website (Smugmug)? Ideally, I would like to badge photos that have already been uploaded so I can quickly recognize them and ensure I'm not duplicating. I've considered using the rating, or keywords to indicate that a photo has been uploaded but both methods have disadvantages.
    3) Any suggestions for general workflow and organization resources (tutorials, books, websites, etc.)? I've looked at the videos on Apple's site but they obviously didn't get that detailed.
    Thanks for the help, sorry for the length.

    I recommend to Manage by Reference with Master image files stored on external hard drives (note that Aperture defaults to a Managed-Library configuration rather than a Referenced-Masters Library). Especially important for iMacs and laptops with a single internal drive. The workflow as described below in an earlier post of mine uses a Referenced-Masters Library.
    I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a memory card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable.
    • Finder-copy images from memory card to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject memory card.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional strongly recommended recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing in Aperture).
    • Reformat memory card in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
    Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media/backups.
    Also note with a Referenced-Masters Library that use of the "Vault" backup routine backs up the Library only, not the Masters. Masters should be separately backed up, IMO a good thing from a workflow and data security standpoint.
    Max out RAM in your MB and keep the internal drive less than 70% full.
    Good luck!

  • General JSP Questions

    Hi,
    I work at a marketing company and here we still use Classic ASP, and now we're starting to learn and implement JSP on our projects.
    We managed to get things working just like we do in ASP, however with just that I don't see any advantage at all, it's just that we currently are doing exactly the same thing we do with ASP, a form sends the user input to a code-page, we get all the parameters, insert/delete/update the DB, and return the user to another page. Everything's the same, except the language syntax that changed.
    So this is what I'd like to ask, what are some common "best practices" of using the JSP technology?
    As someone who's just started on JSP from ASP, what are the practical advantages?
    (One of the advantages - or actually the only one I can think that really saves some time are the Beans)
    Any sources/tutorials are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    DanCoelho wrote:

    (One of the advantages - or actually the only one I can think that really saves some time are the Beans)None. JSP on its own is pretty useless.
    The real power lies in the fact that you have a JVM available to you - in other words you can write and execute Java code. The trick is learning how to do this efficiently so that the web part isn't a bother, and that is where JSPs partly come into play.
    The simplest of the simplest form of Java web development that is at least somewhat of a clean design is to combine Servlet and JSP technology. Servlets are simple java classes that can serve HTTP requests - generally you will use them to handle the business logic side of a request. Database queries, complex calculations and any other kind of data manipulation is done at this point - generally you'll write specific classes to actually do all the work, and you use those classes in your servlets.
    What you do not want to do in Servlets is generate the view - the content sent back to the browser that the user will actually see. Generally this is HTML or XHTML content, but it could be something else entirely. JSPs, in combination with for example JSTL, are far better suited to fulfill this task. JSPs represent simple templates to massage data into page content, and the rule of thumb is that they are only correct when they contain absolutely no java code at all.
    So the general flow of this is:
    - user goes to your website or clicks on a link or a button. This will trigger a servlet.
    - the servlet handles all the business logic that is required
    - when the servlet is done, it forwards control to a JSP
    - the JSP generates the view, based on data that was generated in the servlet
    This may seem like a lot of work, but it really isn't once you get the hang of it. And there are still plenty of ways to make your life even easier still, using specific frameworks that exist such as Spring MVC or JavaServer faces.
    Whatever choices you make, there is one thing that is true for all of them: before you can do anything in the Java web development world, you'll need to know core Java. Intimately.

  • General log4j question I can't answer myself

    I have developed an app using Eclipse that uses log4j and everything seems to work fine. But when I copy the code to our Unix box and run it with Ant (just upgraded to 1.7 if that makes a difference), all the logging gets redirected to stdout. I jar the project if that makes any difference.
    Should it go in the same directory as the Main class? same dir as the base dir? current dir? Inside the jar? outside? etc...

    src(dir)
    ls build

    The rough answer to your first question is that it doesn't really matter so long as the file system can find it. Likely this can be corrected with a handy path entry though you need to be wary that you don't have multiple files referenced in your path that have the same name.
    Knowing more about what you're deploying, and how you're deploying it would be helpful in trying to give you better answers.

  • General BADi question:Call BADi in background job/batch input. Possible?

    Hi out there,
    i'm using thoe following BADi: /SAPSLL/CTRL_SD0C_R3 (Global Trade Service).
    But also, this question is a general question.
    If we are calling on screen the transaction VF01, the BADi is called correctly.
    But unfortunately it seemes that the BADi is NOT called (im not really sure, cause i can't debug the background task) when we are calling a batch input sequence wth f.e. form bdc_transaction VF01 nothing happens.
    Maybe BADi cannot be called in a background task? If it's possible, how could it be monitored. Thare isw no spool entry or anything like that!
    Any answer can help.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
    generally BADIs are called in background mode. You can use the following trick to debug your BADI. You just need to create an infinite loop in your BADI implementation. Something like this.
    DATA: l_a TYPE c.
    WHILE l_a IS INITIAL.
    ENDWHILE.
    Obviously when your BADI is called in background mode then program will get into infinite loop. You can easily connect and debug running programs from transaction SM50. You need to select your background process and go to Program/Session -> Program -> Debugging. You will jump directly into your BADI methos with infinite loop. Then you will just set value to l_a and you will start debugging your BADI. If you can not find any process then your BADI is not called in background mode.
    Cheers

  • General Characters Question

    Hi all,
    20 years ago, i was using Mac Classic OS (from 6.x to 9.x) and MS.Windows, both for many targets and using many softwares...
    i type in MS Word in windows for example... and when i try to transfer what i typed for my mac, i faced problems... the characters is not written as i typed them ... and they r not a good characters ...
    and vise versa ...
    especially when i type in other than English... Arabic for example .. a lot of problems, in Many levels :
    1- in the level of transferring the text from win to mac and vise versa..
    2- in the level of Mac browsres (finally Safari under 10.4 and 10.5 solved the problem)..
    3- in the level of mac itself... for example many files was written under Classic softwares are now UNreadable under my 10.5OSX..
    4- in the level of the names of the files and folders themself.... a lot of folders on my HD was named under Classic (in Arabic characters) are now UNreadable, then i must switch to OS9 each time i need to know what some folder is...
    5- Many other levels...
    Now, my question is Not to fix all these problems...
    i like to learn about the KIND of characters and how each OS deals with them, and what each OS use as Characters..
    i have some ideas about the stuff since i was in University studing DOS 20 years ago ... i still have in my memory some titles and names (like Aski code and others).. i think this is the point...! ??
    Please advice me about a link or any web tutorial or help, where i can learn SHORTLY all the factors of this problem..
    for example : What Mac OSX uses as characters? Classic and Windows?? how Arabic or other characters are interpretted on this OS??
    why i face these problems and how to solve them?
    How can i know what KIND of characters a software uses when i open and use it???
    Please link me to a VERY SHORT but VERY USEFUL help webpage or other ..
    Many Thanks

    The main issue is that OS X and all other modern OS's use Unicode. OS 9 and older Windows stuff uses "legacy" encodings.
    TextEdit can be used to open certain kinds of docs in one encoding and convert them to another.
    Apple made a utility especially for the filename problem:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/filenameencodingrepairutility.html
    These links may help:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/mlingos9.html
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/TypingArabic.html
    Another issue is that MS Word for Mac cannot do Arabic, and only a special version of Adobe apps can do it.
    If you have any specific questions after reading this, just ask.

  • A general OOP question

    Hi
    I have a general OOP design question, and am wondering if someone could relate an answer to the following design?
    I have a class called MediaFolderImport(); - it's designed to build a window with various editing tools in it.
    Within it's constructor, I'm calling a bunch of functions to build the window...
       createTitle();
       createInstructions();
       createToolPanel();
       createDataGrid ();
       createOpen();
       createSave();
    In my document class, I instantiate it...
    public var File_Folder_Import:MediaFolderImport=new MediaFolderImport();
    and then...
    addChild(File_Folder_Import);
    Voila! - the window appears. I WAS very proud of myself.
    Now I want to access something inside the window.  Specifically, there's a radio button that was created in createToolPanel(); - I want to update it to be selected or not selected when I receieve the user's preference from an xml settings file at start up (xml is loaded into the doc class).
    General question:
    What is the best practice, smart way to have designed this?
    - call createToolPanel(); from the doc class instead of within MediaFolderImport();, and somehow (magically) have access to the radio button?
    - leave the design as is, but add some sort of listener within MediaFolderImport that listens for changes to the xml in the doc class, and updates accordingly?
    - do it the way I'm trying to, ie try to access the radio button directly from the doc class (which isn't working):
    File_Folder_Import.myRadioButton.selected = true;
    - a better way someone can briefly explain the concept of?
    Another way to explain my design is...
    - a bunch of different windows, each created by a different class
    - xml file loads preferences, which need to be applied to different tools (radio buttons, check boxes, text fields etc) in the different windows
    I read a lot of posts that talk about how public vars are mostly bad practice.  So if you are making your class vars private, what is the best way to do the kind of inter-class communicating I'm talking about here?
    I think someone throwing light on this will help me solidify my understanding of OOP.
    Thank you for your time and help.

    You're already very used to using properties for the built-in AS classes and that's the best practice means of configuring your class. It's a "state" that you want to simply expose. The get/set method moccamaximum mentioned is the ideal route.
    The main reason you want to use get/set functions is validation. You want your class to act properly if you send an invalid value. Especially if anyone else besides yourself is going to use the class. Plan for the worst.
    The general concept is, make a private variable for any 'state' you want to remember using an underscore in the variable name to easily identify it as a private var, then make get/set functions with the same name with any required validation without the underscore.
    e.g.
    package
         public class MyClass
              // property called 'mode' to track something with an int
               private var _mode:int = 0;
              public function MyClass() {} // empty constructor
              // get (type enforced)
              public function get mode():int { return mode; }
              // set, requiring a value
              public function set isChecked(modeVal:int):void
                   // if no value is sent, ignore
                   if (!modeVal) { return; }
                   _mode = modeVal;
    Your validation will go a long way to easily debugging your classes as they grow in size. Eventually they should throw exceptions and errors if they're not valid. Then you will be best practice. Do note that if your validation requires quite a bit of logic it's common to upgrade the property to a public method. get/set should be reserved for simple properties.

    No - not in my opinion. The best combo would be Fireworks for

  • General Capability Question

    I wish to maintain a "collection" of produced digital video clips that can be web published. Say, on the left side of web page screen, is the video clip field. On the right side, are fields to be filled in by user. (Data to be stored in database). Based on user supplied data in each field, the video would "jump" to the proper clip and play instantly. At the conclusion of enetering data and playing multiple clips, user data needs to be outputted to another database.
    Please help...how can this be accomplished??? Final Cut studio? / Flash? / Cold Fusion? / Filemaker? / other database? / Flex?

    Thomas is right about this not being the best place to post. Not sure if there is a good forum here to do it in, since it's not an Apple related question.
    Lucky for you, I happen to be a web designer. I'm a little confused as to how exactly this interface works (hint: don't make it over complicated), but I'm guessing the basic idea here is to have a user submit input through a form field, have it look up clip data in the database, have it return that data and start playing clips, and then save the timing information of that sequence of clips back to the database. Kind of sounds like a web-based editor. Pretty tricky.
    Making this a Flash application would probably be your best on creating a good interface. I don't actually use Flash myself, but it seems like it would be capable. Your other option would be to use HTML and Javascript to build an AJAX interface. I think that would be a lot trickier, and feel a lot less slick.
    As far as the backend goes, any of the major server side scripting languages will do the trick. PHP, ASP, Ruby/Rails, Coldfusion, etc. The industry standards for web applications databases are usually mySQL or PostgreSQL.
    If this is a serious project, as opposed to simply an experiment, I would look into finding a talented web designer with skills in the above mentioned technologies. This isn't something that can be hacked together quickly, or easily.
