Generating a list of programs installed on a machine
Hello,
I am working on a project at the minute, and I need to find out, is it possible to create a list of all the programs installed on a machine using java?
Thanks
For what purpose one would ask.
One can do a directory scan (File.listFiles).
In java you can ask for the root drives (see FileSystemView, JFileChooser), and query whether they a removable/remote media.
Then you simply need to collect all .exe files (on Windows).
Windows uses the registry for software products. There are some native-code based APIs that give access to the registry. Or you might in RegEdit export a CURRENT_SOFTWARE tree from the registry and parse the text file..
As you can execute command line programs in java (Runtime.exec) you can run RegEdit,
see http://techsupt.winbatch.com/TS/T000001029F18.html for options.

I was prompted to update Java. I got a YAHOO toolbar which I did and do not want. I can't get rid of it. It does not appear on the Add-on list, not in the programs list (to uninstall). Can't find anything with Yahoo in the name. I do not want to use View, because it keeps coming back into view without my consent -- I want it gone permanently.
The uninstall directions in Yahoo help call for click on pencil tool (which tool is not found on this toolbar). Firefox instructions say go to Add-on list, but the Yahoo bar is not there. There are several Java add-ons, but I don't know what they are and what happens if they are uninstalled.
Win 7; Firefox 5.0; Yahoo toolbar ver 2.3.8.20110620112826
Perhaps it is disguised as something else. If so please tell me what to uninstall.Try RIGHT clicking on different areas of the toolbars on Firefox, mainly try right clicking on/around the url bar & forward/back navigation buttons. When you get the correct spot if will give you a menu with the toolbars available (whether or not they're active) and a couple other options. Just uncheck the Yahoo one & you should be all set.
As you say though it may be some other bar disguised as a yahoo bar. Any chance you can get a screen shot of it & post it here? -
I have installed and uninstalled several times with no success. I had a previous version installed in April 10 but it will not reinstall or run. This problem started about a month ago, in early July.

I purchased Adobe Creative Cloud. I chose to download and installs 4 of the apps including Acrobat XI Pro. All apps are working great except Acrobat Pro. It shows as installed, but I can't find it anywhere in my list of programs. What am I missing here?
Hi Sz17111,
Please follow the article: CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed which will help you to fix this issue.
Let us know for any further query.

Creative Cloud lists uninstalled programs as installed?
I recently upgraded the operating system on my computer from 32 to 64-bit, and this meant I had to re-install all of my software.
When I re-downloaded the creative cloud suite, it showed some of the programs as installed, even though I hadn't started downloading any of them, and none of the listed programs show up in Control Panel.
This is a screenshot of the control panel's list of programs, compared to creative cloud's list of supposedly installed programs: http://i.imgur.com/MTn7UyQ.png?1Vulpez did you format an install before you installed the 64-bit version of Windows? Or did you just upgrade your existing installation?
Please try the steps listed in CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html to restore your ability to install the Adobe Creative applications included with your membership. -

Hi
I need to know the command for getting list of softwares installed on all the remote systems in network which are existing in their respective registry like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE of all other systemsHey
Sorry this isn't powershell but it should do the job if you want to use it. The problem with using the Win32_Product WMI Class to enumerate the installed software (especially on Windows 2000 & 2003 Servers) is that the WMI class is NOT installed by default. Here is a VBScript i wrote to read a list of hostnames from a text file named "ComputerNames.txt" from the scripts directory and attempt to remotely enumerate all subkeys within the following registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
For each subkey enumerated it will attempt to read the value of the "DisplayName" key and output the results to a csv file.
(the results should be the same as what you would see when you open Add/Remove Programs)
Hope that helps
Cheers
Matt :)

How do I generate a list of keyboard shortcuts for any given application
I want to generate a list of keyboard shortcuts for all of the applications I have on my Mac. I want the list to be a simple text (or rtf) file that I can edit and organize. (By edit, I don't mean change the shortcuts, only the report of them.)
I was using Key Cue, but it does not let me save the list to a text file.
I want this for several purposes. One is to have a easy to reference list of shortcuts to learn. Another is to find unused key combinations that I can use for my own keyboard shortcuts that I create with DefaultKeyBinding.dict.
Note: The program doesn't have to an OS X app. A program that runs from a shell without a GUI is plenty adequate.
If there is a way to read the keyboard commands from a plist list or other such file, and any of you know the format for these or where I can find them, I can write a Perl script myself to do it.Well, the info is stored in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist
PlistPro has a way to convert it to ASCII, but you'll srtill have work to do, as...

How to generate a list of Devices based upon an eDir group
Is there a way for us to generate a report/query of devices (we need model, etc) where the calculated user for each device is a member of an eDirectory group?
Basically, we need to generate a list of machines in our "HR" department or "Finance" department, etc.
Any clever ideas?

My membership for Creative Cloud has expired and I want to uninstall Photoshop CC 2014 from my system.
The ONLY Adobe application listed under 'Program and Features' (Windows 8.1) is the Adobe Creative Cloud, however when I uninstall that all the Adobe Photoshop and Bridge system files remain. When double clicking on photoshop.exe (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\photoshop.exe) I get the Creative Cloud 'Renew your Subscription' screen. After then rebooting and reinstalling the Creative Cloud Desktop, it shows that Photoshop CC, Photoshop CC (2014), and Bridge CC are installed and are all 'up to date'
I have searched everywhere on my system for photoshop uninstall files without success.
Please advise how to delete/uninstall all applications installed by Adobe Creative Cloud when the applications are not listed in the Control Panel 'Programs and Features'Thank you for the link. I don't want to sound rude, but I said the programs installed by Creative Cloud Desktop are NOT listed in Windows Control Panel's 'Programs and Features'. The link provided is useless.
The only Adobe software listed under 'Program and Features' ('Add or Remove Programs' for Windows XP users) is the Creative Cloud Desktop program itself and when uninstalling that, it does NOT uninstall Photoshop CC (2014) or Adobe Bridge CC. When selecting uninstall for Creative Cloud, no Change options are provided to remove Photoshop CC. Uninstalling Creative Cloud Desktop leaves all Photoshop and Bridge system files intact.
Again, I want to uninstall Photoshop CC that was installed by Creative Cloud Desktop and is NOT listed under Program and Features. -
My Firefox icons are showing and usable from the desktop and from the task bar; however, the Mozilla Firefox does not show in my list of program files. Why doesn't it show?
Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you. -
How do I locate and remove incompatible programs that are preventing Firefox from displaying on my screen? I have the latest Firefox program installed, but I cannot get it onscreen. I ha ve removed Babylon, or at least I have performed the recommended steps to remove it and it no longer appears on my computer's list of installed programs. However, I still cannot retrieve Firefox on my screen. I am using Googlechrome instead as my browser but it doesn't match Firefox for ease and convenience.
hello ralph, does it work when you press the shift key while launching firefox in order to access firefox safemode - then you can do a reset to revert most of the settings to the factory default.

and has always generated the list of references just fine. Now in FM12, the LOR no longer will give any references for the Imported Graphics. I have even tried creating a new chapter from the FM12 templates, adding the chapter to the front of the book, and allowing FM12 to use that file as the template for the LOR. Still no success - it will not give any references to the Imported Graphics in my chapter files. Is this a bug in FM12? Is there something different about FM12 that would cause this not to work with existing FM11 files??? Please help, I need this resolved and working.
Thank you,
BeverlyArnis and Jeff,
Thank you both very much for your assistance. I was able to figure out why the Adobe Application Manager kept failing on installing the patches. Idiot me didn't unzip them first. Once I unzipped the patch files, the installer worked fine. Both patches are now successfully installed; my FM version is now 12.0.2..
To answer some of your questions:
Yes, I have administrator privileges on my PC.
Yes, I had all of the files in the book opened when I generated and/or updated the LOR file. So that was not the issue.
With the patches installed, I opened a book and all of its files. I updated the LOR and all works fine – it gives me all of the Imported Graphic references. So there must have been an issue with that release of FM12 (12.0.0.329), which was fixed with the patches.
Again, thank you both for your help!
Best regards,

I have Adobe CS6 Design Standard Installed on my machine and I now have a new machine that I need to put this on. I am trying to uninstall it from my old machine because I need to have the "license" available. However, the adobe programs are not listed in my Windows 7 uninstall dialog box. I assume I uninstalled something on accident (Adobe Application Manager?) that is causing this issue.
I have the physical disc for the CS6 Design Standard. Please I need some help understanding how to uninstall the programs...I can still use them and they are simply icons on my desktop but not listed in my "Programs and Features" dialog box.
I appreciate any assistance you may provide.Awesome! Deactivating worked...I knew there was something - I just didn't know where to look. Thanks so much. As far as uninstalling the programs, what you said worked perfectly - a little backwords...but its my own fault!
Thanks and i'm soooooo happy that this only took 1/100th of the time that it took to transfer my AutoCAD License!
