Generating an SWF file to put online

I know this is a beginner question but i am really struggling!
I have an FLV file but need to generate an SWF to then upload onto the internet (with a play/stop bar)
I have no idea how to do this. Is there a step by step I can access or can someone point me tell me where and what to do!!!! I have CS4
I understand that I need to have all the files in the same folder and then link them all in. I will be uploading onto the website (back of house html) is there a basic code that i can modify that will suit my needs?
Any help would be greatly apreciated!!

I have done this, but am left with two files (the SWF and the control element.
When uploading this to the web, how do i add the content? Do i upload both files and the original FLV?
Do i need to do any coding in the html to link everything together. That is my problem!!!!

SWF file not being generated

I moved an old project (from Intellij, without Flex artifacts) into a new location and recreated
a new Flex project with Flex 4.0 integrated product over the old file structure.
However, I am now unable to generate the application's swf file or the swf's for its modules.
I am using Flex 4.0 in MacBook Pro OS X 10.6
In Compiler options I do have "Generate accessible swf file" checked.
All options have been checked under HTML wrapper.
Under menu choice Project Build Automatically is checked, and I also tried "clean"
Any ideas on what I need to do to generate?

C++ API to generate SWF files

I have C++ application which should generate presentation in
Flash. It should allows me to embed video data and play it as well.
I know about libming and sswf libraries but they don't look very
functional. Any comments?

You don't need to generate a SWF file for every MP4 and FLV
file -- for example, you could have one SWF file (running in Flash
Player in a web browser) that acts as a video player for all your
video files.
The SWF file lives on the web server and is sent over HTTP to
Flash Player running in a web browser (or to AIR, or to Flash Lite
running on a mobile device). The SWF file creates a connection to
an FMS application over RTMP (see the NetConnection ActionScript
class). Once the connection is made, the SWF file can ask the FMS
application for any video on the server (see the NetStream class).
FMS streams the video files to the SWF file.
In other words, the SWF file lives on the web server and the
video files live on FMS. (Flash Media Interactive Server does have
a C++ plug-in architecture that lets it retrieve files over HTTP,
but most people should store their video files on FMS using either
local or network storage).
You're right about your options for creating SWF files -- but
since you don't need to create 1000s of SWFs, you'll probably be OK
going with Flash CS3 or Flex Builder if you want to use an
authoring tool.

Generating .swf file

I am unable to generate the .swf file when I try to preview. When I click preview i get a message "Generating Swf" then a short time letter I get a message "Xcelsius has stopped working"

Is this happening with all the dashboard or any specific dashboard?
Have you installed SP1 for Xcelsius 2008?
Incase you have not installed, please install SP1 for Xcelsius 2008 and then try to preview the dashboard.

Only want upgrade swf file in my app

i have like 50 app compile from the same air file. But we
compile the air file online, and every app has their own names like
0345.air and 0450.air. if you see inside the file all them have
same "father" swf. Now we have to upgrade them and we want to use
only one air for upgrade all. But when the app upgraded, take the
same name from the "father" swf, and if one user has 2 app like
0345 and 0450.air installed after that only live him install one,
because the another one is the same.
Is posible to create an .air only with the swf file for
upgrade? or can i donwload the swf file and put inside the system
program files?

You need to package different apps.
AIR files with different appId are different applications.
They can updated from each other.
Your AIR app. is not allowed to write the application
directory. So you can't just replace the swf file.

Exporting SWF Files

I am working on our univeristy Alumni Magazine. The past few issues I have been generating a swf file to go on our website for viewers to have a more interactive experience with the magazine. When I export the swf files it gives me a white facing page beside my front and back covers. In the past I have been making my front and back cover page size the same size as my spreads, and it hasn't put a white facing page beside the front and back cover. However, this isn't the original size of the magazine cover and looks kind of awkward. Is there any way I can leave my cover it's original size and get rid of the white facing page? I am working with Adobe CS6. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry, I'm not explaining it clearly.
There is a single FLA file in which there are 150+ frames.
Each frame contains it's own content. That's part's no problem.
The final files are viewed through a projector file; again no
issue there.
The issue I've got is that the person who originally created
the fla file has made an swf of each frame and I can't figure out
how to do that.

There is no such workflow for swf files.
Edge animate only understands html, javascript. SWF files are alien to it.
You should be using Flash Professional CC, for generating the swf files.

How do i play my videos in flash file after moving SWF file to website?

Hello all,
I am having some problems showing my videos in flash after moving it anywhere besides my computer.
I published my flash file once as a exe. file and sent it to another computer, where it all worked but my videos, which didn't show up at all.
I also published them as SWF files, then put them up on my free website (where i don't have access to the ftp) and the videos still aren't there.
The videos will play fine in an SWF file on my computer, but i am assuming when they are away from the videos, they don't have a source to access them.
I also tried sending the videos along with the SWF files when sending to other computers and it still doesn't work.
I now have a free hosted website (with wix.com if that makes any difference) with my flash work on, but no videos. I even tried to embed a youtube video into the scenes the videos are meant to appear, and put the videos on youtube, then i discovered you can't put that sort of HTML into flash.
Does anyone know how to show the videos on these sort of website, or even better, how to keep them in original file when sending them, so they show on other computers.
Sorry if I've waffled but I'm trying to clear up my situation .

i am using the website wix, so in order to put the swf file up you just click the "Upload SWF" button, so i don't know how i could put the videos along with the swf, the swf is just sat on the page once i upload it.
second, when using this type of website do you know how i'd go about giving the website the permissions to play flv files?

How do I convert from AVI or FLV to SWF file?

First, I'm a complete Flash novice...this is the first time
I've dealt with any FLV or SWF files. So, please forgive my
ignorance on these topics. I have several small AVI files and have
successfully converted them to FLV format via Premiere Pro CS3 and
Adobe Media Encoder. But the client is also asking for SWF files of
the same videos. I've looked and looked for a way to save SWF
files. I tried pulling the video into Flash CS3, and saving as SWF,
but since I know nothing about using Flash, I don't seem to be
doing it correctly...seems like I'm getting just a single blank
frame. I've looked at the dozens of third party programs that claim
to be able to convert FLV to SWF, but the one I downloaded "Free
Video to Flash Converter" generated an SWF file that doesn't seem
to be playable anywhere. If there is a click-by-click method for
using Flash to perform the conversion, I'd be ever so grateful.
Again, please forgive my Flash-ignorance. Thanks for your help.

Why doesn't Flash have a built-in capability to convert FLV
to SWF? It's an obvious need and there are 3rd party programs of
varying quality that do it. Why should people who have already
purchased Flash need to look for something that handles this OK and
then install it on their machines?

Exporting non-looping (single frame) swf file

I am using a third-party application to create a "page-flipping" version of a book. For quality reasons, I want to export the pages of the document as swf files. When I import the resulting swf files to the application, they flicker at the default frame rate of 24 fps. When I open the swf file in Flash Player, if I hit the "play" button, it flickers as well. If I use the "next frame" and "previous frame" commands, it's apparent that the file has two frames, one with the page content, the other with a blank (white) appearance.
Is there a way to export the pages as *SINGLE* frame swf files?
In desperation I've tried to export the pages as .fla files and generate the swf files from Flash, but the layouts are significantly corrupted when I open the fla files in Flash.
FYI, I'm using InDesign CS6.

There are a number of workarounds that are more or less usable. You can place a print button on the page where the chart is located. A user can print to printer or to pdf if she has that functionality. The only issue there is that the whole dashboard screen prints. Depending how just how much you have on a screen that you don't want printed, you may have to reorganise the charts on to their own tabs, for example, which is what I do. I use the whole tab for the chart itself, probably leave a logo on top and bottom and then the whole page prints with my logos and the chart.
Less elegant but always good value for money: flash image capture. I don't like that and it requires a utility clients side.

Dynamically update swf file in sharepoint using xml data

Hi,
I need some help/enlightenment on how to auto-update the swf file in sharepoint using xml data.
I am encountering an error "Cannot access External Data" and pointing to adobe's Cross-domain policy file extension.
My questions is:
1. Where should the cross-domain file be copied? In the sharepoint webserver's root folder?
Right now, we generate the swf file from xcelsius and manually upload them in the sharepoint. However, we wish to automate the data content of this file.

GetFileByServerRelativeUrl.... since you're getting a FILE, you'll need a URL to a FILE (not just a library)... by SERVER relative URL, so you'll need to include the site collection path and such, not just the subsite relative URL.

Why don't links placed in swf files work in Dreamweaver?

I created a swf file and embeded a link in in to go to another page in my site. The application program (Easy Web Animator) generates the swf file and an html file. When I open the generated html file, the link to another page works when I click on the button. But if I import this swf file in dreamweaver, the link does not work. The generated html file dosen't seem to have anything extra to make the link work, it seems it just dosent work when placed in Dreamweaver.

I feel so stupid. I uploaded both files to my server, and they are
both working now (on the server). I have been previewing the file in a
browser on my hard drive all the time, and the original worked, but
the file placed in Dreamweaver did not. But they both work when
uploaded to the server!
I don't understand it, but maybe you can. I would love to know why I
wasted about 2 days just trying every different setting I can in the
swf file and in dreamweaver.

Chart preview (swf file) doesn't scale Y axis correctly, shows 0 to 6 only!

Hi Everybody
This is my first post on this forum.
I am trying to generate an interactive chart using the most simple functionality of using 2 comboboxes and 1 line chart.
The selected values from the 2 comboboxes are supposed to go in to 2 cells on the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet cells that are used to create the chart are then updated. The updated chart can be seen on the canvas with proper values along the Y (Values) axis. However, when I click on the "Preview" button - as it generates the swf file, it shows the comboboxes with the correct labels and it permits to change my selection therein but the chart is always blank because the scale of the Y axis is from 0 through to 6 - and no values for any combination of the 2 comboboxes fall within 0 and 6.
What do I need to do to address this Y axis scaling problem? The current setting for scaling is Auto with 'Linear' entered for "Fixed label size".
Please help - I am desperate to know what is happening here! The Excel formula works, the chart on the canvas is updated but not on the preview. I am using Xcelcius Engage 2008 application.

I doubt if the problem relates to the size of the chart. I believe that the problem could be related to the installation not being complete (since the key that we currently have is a temporary key only provided by SAP) or something of the sort - the reason I say that is because whilst the chart did not get updated with the combobox component, it did get updated with the filter component ((I used it on 3 tab sheets with varying number of variables in the filter ranging from 2 to 3). With the the filter component (with 2 or even 3 variables) it all worked ok. So I resigned myself to using the filter component instead of the combobox.
Whilst I have got you, could you advise me of the advantage that a component offers over the other - in this case, the filter over the combobox or the other way around?
One other thing, if I may ask you - is it possible to drive Xcelsius using Excel VBA. The reason I want to do this is to be able to do the following from with Excel VBA:-
1. Open Xcelsius
2. Import a spreadsheet in to Xcelsius
3. Export the dashboard in the desired format
I can do everything else that I would need to do to update the input spreadsheet from within Excel VBA with the exception of the above 3 tasks.
If you or anyone can help me realize the above, that would be a monumental assitance. The same shall be highly valued.

In Flash CS4 a generated html with swf file won't play swf

Using Flash CS4 and having the Flash plug-in ver 10 on my PC, the generated html file will not play the swf in the browser.
I noticed that the active-x javascript is now included in the header as well as the javascript portion in the body tag.
But it won't play. I get the typical blank window in IE with the "X" in the upper left corner.
I don't have this problem with Flash CS3.
Any ideas what may be going on?

I am having similar difficulty; mostly I am confused.
I want to open a flash video file in a frame within a webpage.
I have generated a Flash CS4 html and swf file. When loaded they play, but they play on a separate, full size web page, not in the frame where I want it.
I then generated FLV and F4V files but that doesn't work.
It appears that I need to insert the object and embed tags "for Flash Movies" in the html file.
Once I do that, do I go back to only putting in the html and swf files and create a link to the html file to bring up the video in the target frame?
What are the FLV files for?

How to generate SWF file with dynamic data but no live connection

We got a requirement where we have to email out SWF file either in PPT or outlook generated from BOBJ universe. When the file reaches the customer who would be outside our network with no access to our servers or data should be able to view the swf file with data. So the goal is to generate these files automatically and should not prompt for BOBJ login or wouldn't have ability to query the database but need to report data pertaining to the customer.
Any help in this regards is greatly appreciated.

Hi Manohar,
You can use QAAWS(query as a web services) and build your queries on universe.
You get an option of hardcoding the user id and password in the data connection for QAAWS which will not asks the users for login credentials.
This will hepl the user to veiw the latest data from the database and the user wont be asked for login too.
