"Generating Oracle SQL" does generate any SQL script

After capturing and converting works successfully (tables, procedures, views etc. are all visible), I right click on a converted model, select "generate", and only the following is generated:
User 1
Schema 1
Package 1
even though as i said there are a number of tables etc. visible in the captured and converted models.
Upon closing the dialog, no SQL pops up. And there is no error in the log.
Some databases convert properly. But at least one DB conversion has this problem.
I am converting primarily from MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to Oracle 10g Express Edition.
(I am new to Oracle, I hope i have provided the relevant information.)
Any ideas? Thanks.

I am using SQL Developer 1.5.4.
SQL Developer remained open. In Quick Migrate, for example, it simply stopped at the beginning of the Generate stage, and the Close button became enabled.
The procedures in the converted model seem to be translated to PL/SQL.
I could try the command line out of curiosity, but FYI, this is what I ended up doing, and it worked. I don't know if it sheds light on anything:
Instead of migrating the original SQL Server database directly, I used SQL Server's "Generate SQL Scripts" to create all objects to a new SQL Server database. A few objects (mostly views) failed, as they were invalid. The vast majority succeeded. And I transfered no data.
Then I ran SQL Developer's Quick Migrate on the new database, and it completed perfectly.

  • SQL View Generator plug-in does not create LIMITMAP

    I was wondering if anyone has encountered an issue where they create a SQL View using the AWM plug-in over an OLAP dimension but then receieve the error "ORA-34492 Analytic Workspace object <AW>.LIMITMAP does not exist" when they try to query the dimension. I created several SQL Views over other dimensions and they work just fine.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    There may be a couple of reasons for this and I have seen this error myself. Firstly I think you are using 10gOLAP, correct? You should be using 10.2.0.3 patchset, then you need to apply the addition OLAP A database patch. These two patches can be downloaded from Metalink.
    Next you need to download the updated version of AWM, 10.2.0.3.A from the OLAP home page on OTN. Then from the same page download and install the updated SQLView generator and make sure all the SQL scripts are installed correctly with no errors.
    Once all that is done, the next step is to look at the cube you are trying to view. There is a limit (not sure of the exact details in terms of size) on the size of the LIMITMAP command that can be generated. Typically, if you have very long column names and very long AW name this can cause problems. In the first screen (I think) of the view generator there is the option to change the column names, which gives you the option to reduce the size of the names assigned to each column.
    To try and debug this I would try creating a very simple view, based on one single measure from your cube and only select the dimension attribute "long description". Before you test the view, use the OLAP Worksheet within AWM to check if the LIMITMAP object was created. The name of the limitmap object is name_of_your_cube_LIMITMAP. If this object has not been created then I suspect there is something wrong with the PL/SQL package creating the view and we will need to switch on some tracing to determine why this is not working.
    Hope this helps

    Hi All,
    In my sql package I'm using 3 different functions to create two different sql strings and the 3rd function does some percentage calculations. Hi ,
    Thanks a lot for your reply and tips how to post the code.
    As you know that previously I used 3 different variables called
    my_class_select_text,
    my_class_sum_text,
    my_class_perc_text
    to get corresponding values. I'm using these values in a dynamic SQL like below in the code.
          SELECT 3 "Rank", '
        || '            ''Final Row'' "Row Type", '
        || '            TRUNC(edr_rpt_tmp_bin_periods.bin_start_date_time ) "Date", '
        || '            MAX(edr_rpt_tmp_bin_periods.bin_end_date_time) - numtodsinterval(0.000000001, ''SECOND'') "Date/Time", '
        || '            '''' "Lane", '
        || '            ''Total'' "Hour"  '
        ||              my_class_sum_text
        || '                           , '
        || '             SUM(NVL(" ", 0)) " " '
        || '           FROM ( '
        || '                  SELECT edr_class_by_hour_report_data.bin_start_date_time start_date_time '
        ||                               my_class_select_text || ', '
        || '                             SUM(NVL(edr_class_by_hour_report_data.bin_value, 0)) " " '
        || '                    FROM edr_class_by_hour_report_data '
        || '             GROUP BY edr_class_by_hour_report_data.bin_start_date_time '
        || '                ) results '
       As per your new function it returns in a single parameter called 'my_class_perc_text' . Now I dont know how to use single variable in these places?
    Hope you could understand my question.
    I used to display code. :)
       Thanks once again.

    The quote part in op, from relevant doc section, seem to say differently. Looking through the script it would seem that files are actually spooled in working path (e.g. current dir when sqlplus is started) instead of folder where script exists.

    I think file permissions should be considered still, if on Win 7 (or other OS with some level of least privilege policy implementation).
    Edit:
    A small test on windows platform showed that files are output in cwd from where sqlplus is started and also that saving files in c:\temp worked fine.

  • Can generate the TKPROF file without the SQL is not running completed ?

    Dear all:
    I want to generate the TKPROF file from the trace file, Can generate the TKPROF file without the SQL is not running completed ? Is it the TKPROF file can be used? because the report is too large. My environment is ORACLE 11.5.9
    Regards
    Terry

    When you can wait for completion, then that's the easiest route.
    When you can't wait, you'll have to use a different method. I suggest to watch the v$ views for what your session is doing. Views like v$session, v$session_wait, v$sess_io and the views starting with v$sql. Also worth mentioning is Tanel Poder's site, which contains some very useful scripts for diagnosing performance problems this way: http://tech.e2sn.com/.

  • Generate Unique Hash Key in PL/SQL

    I have a document that i want to send to certain customers. What I've decided to do is send the customer a link to the document that will be stored locally on our server. Obviously for security reasons i don't want to simply send the sequential doc ID allowing customers to change the query string to get other information.
    What would be the best way in pl/sql to generate a unique hash key to include in the url? The key would have to be both unique and not easily edited by customers to view other documents.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    I've been experimenting with SHA-1 and it works very well in producing a 40 character hash. My one concern is that for example hashing '1025' produces the following hash 'B74E9CAD775D997FC742B45E1BA7BD5295D63D13'.
    Would someone not just simply be able to use SHA-1 to create a hash for '1026' (since i'm using a sequential number for my input) and consequently retrieve somebody elses information and leave my system vulnerable?
    Might i be better off to encrytp the input?I thought the point was that the "user" would only be provided with the hash value as a reference to the document and they would not have a clue how to alter that hash value to another value in order to retrieve a different document. Surely they don't know that the hash value they have relates to '1025' so a) how would they know that they can obtain the hash for '1026' to get the next document and b) how would they go about creating their own hash values unless you somehow give them access to Oracle's DBMS_CRYPTO package?
    If you really want to be sure then you could also also incorporate the date/time of the document into the string that you hash, so they would have to a) have access to the dbms_crpto package, b) know the filename and the date/time of the document and c) know what order to combine those things (and the format mask you've used on the date/time etc.) to provide the correct hash to obtain the document.
    If you use encryption then you leave yourself open to decryption.
    If you use hash then this is generally a 1 way mechanism, hence details are better hidden.
    I think you'll find when it comes to things like password storage, most will use a 1 way hash (or similar) algorithm rather than an encrypted password so that the stored passwords can never be reverse engineered. Also, such password algorithms usually combine the username or some other feature to prevent two users with the same password getting the same hash value.

  • Generating an xml from a pl/sql procedure

    Hi Friends,
    I have come up with a requirement to generate an xml from a pl/sql procedure.
    I did some R & D and also got some sample procedures but could not understand the datatypes being used.
    The procedure declares variables like this:
    doc                  xmldom.DOMDocument;
    mainNode         xmldom.DOMNode;
    headerElem      xmldom.DOMElement; Pls could anyone tell what do these xmldom.DOMDocument, xmldom.DOMNode and xmldom.DOMElement mean?
    Later in the procedure, these variables are assigned values like
    doc      := xmldom.newDOMDocument;
    mainNode := xmldom.makenode(doc); This went a bouncer on me.
    Pls help.
    Thanks in advance ...!

  • SAP SQL Query Generator

    Hi Gali and Experts!!
    I am working on ECC 6.0 and have worked on 4.X version too. I was wondering if within SAP do we have any SQL Generator which will automatically generate the SQL query? We create views, we do lot of joins  on the tables and we write n number of sql queries, so is there a provision that whenever we generate a view or any other data object we can have access to the underlying SQL query that is being generated at backend. Of course, it must be generating the SQL query behind the scenes....This can be done in Peoplesoft. Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    ~Sid

    well..what about table joins....in query viewer....anyways thanks for the  input...

  • Logging/viewing SQL statements generated by the SQL Developer IDE?

    I know it is possible to view the SQL statements that the SQL Developer IDE generates to fetch result-sets from the database whenever one performs any action - say expanding the "Tables" node for a database, for example. I would appreciate if someone could point out how this functionality could be enabled.
    Thanks,
    RG

    In 1.0, you could use the AddVMOption -Daudit.trace=db_api option inside the sqldeveloper.conf file.
    In 1.1 however, I don't get output inside the console anymore (for expanding trees, etc.).
    Kris, has this option been replaced by another one? Please let us in on all the fun ;-)

    tnx,I haven't a clue.
    As you have been advised in many of your posts, go study the documentation for whichever specific topic you are interested in.
    For me to answer your questions, I would need to go get that documentation.
    Then I would need to read that documentation.
    Then I would need to write a forum post that interprets what I think I learned from that documentation.
    It is so very much faster if YOU go do that instead of posting to a forum and expecting others to do it. You will remember what you study for a lot longer time if you teach yourself.

  • SQL Errors Generated in AppServer DB - "CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblLogHist]"

    Hi All,
    I've been running a SQL Profiler trace on all completing stored procedures and T-SQL batches on the database server of our SBOP 7.5 Sp3 environment in an attempt to try and get clues to some performance issues we're experiencing.
    In the trace data, if I look at the error column and bring back only rows which indicate that an error occured whilst running the stored proc or T-SQL command, I see that the following command resulted in an error on numerous occasions:
    CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblLogHist]
    [LogID] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL
    ,[SystemName] [nvarchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL
    ,[JobName] [nvarchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL
    ,[UserID] [nvarchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL
    ,[Status] [int] NOT NULL
    ,[DateWritten] [datetime] NOT NULL
    ,[Message] [ntext] COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
    If I look for the table tblLogHist in AppServer, it exists, but is empty. Hence presumably the error being obtained when SBOP tries to run the above command is "An object of that name already exists."
    Does anyone know what this table is used for, why SBOP is repeatedly trying to create it and whether it should have any records in it?
    Any help appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Simon
    Environment Details:
    SBOP Version = 7.5 Sp3
    2 x load balanced Windows 2003 app / web / reporting Services servers.
    1 x SQL Server 2008 64bit SQL/Analysis Services Server

    Into Appserver database you have a table tbllogs where the syste record all the error from the system.
    This table can become quite big during the time and insert into this table can be very slow.
    So tbllogHist willbe used to move records perodically from tbllogs.
    In this way the size of tbllogs table will not be too big.
    I hope this will help.
