Generic proceeding for setting application item's value from javascript?

For the moment, all I can think of is a javascript function calling an on-demand process that looks like this:
function setVariableValue(pName, pValue){
var gReturn;
var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=odpSetVariableValue',0);
get.addParam('x01',pName);
get.addParam('x02',pValue);
gReturn = get.get();
get = null;
odpSetVariableValue
begin
execute immediate ':' || wwv_flow.g_x01 || ' := ' || wwv_flow.g_x02;
end;
Is there an APEX function to do it without "execute immediate"?
Igor

Hello Igor,
I think you can do the same thing without actually executing a PL/SQL Process (look here for an example).
function setVariableValue(pName, pValue){
var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=dummy',0);
get.add(pName, pValue);
var gReturn = get.get();
get = null;
(The Application Process dummy doesn't really exists...).

  • How to read application item's value using  javascript

    Is there any way to read value of application item using javascript?
    Thanks

    Javascript can access the objects rendered for the page you are calling. This is why the $v function will do the work if calling it for a page item. However an application item isn't rendered on the page - the session state of it is only stored in the table. This is why you need to do it the way I described. You could do a workarround and create a hidden item on your page and compute the value of it using the application item value. Then you would be able to get the value of your application item using $v function.

    Thank you,

    Hello,
    In your template, you can use '&F50_TEST.' (notice the trailing dot) to display the value .

    HTMLDB failed recongnize the default value, or throw error Error ERR-9132 Error in PLSQL expression for item default code, ...". I have tried each of 3 avaialable Default Value Types
    Per http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=443287, it is used to be doable, but the default value type (sql) is no longer avaialble in HTMLDB 2.0
    I would appreaciate it very much if anyone has successfully done this before, either set to today or current month

    Ching - Did you try a PL/SQL Expression using to_char(sysdate,'YYYY-MM-DD')?
    There have been no changes to the item default types available in HTML DB. The thread you referenced is for Oracle Portal, a separate and unrelated product.

  • Can JWS accept somekind of param's values from JavaScript

    Like in Applet we could pass a param's value from JavaScript. Is it possible to do something similar to JWS?.
    Thanks.

    Java Web Start is implemented as a browser helper application, the browser downloads
    the jnlp file, and launches javaws with that downloaded temp file as an arg. Because of this
    you cannot pass args to javaws except thru the jnlp file.
    The most common way to dynamically generate args and parameters to a javaws app is
    to dynamically generate the jnlp file use a jsp page or a servlet.

    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Thanks for all of your help Jari it is appreciated!
    For others the solution was to add the following to my HTML Source
    <div id="LOGIN_MESSAGE"></div>and then created the javascript routine
    <script language="JavaScript1.1" type="text/javascript">
    function setAppItem(val)
      $x('LOGIN_MESSAGE').innerHTML=val;
    function doLogin()
      var err = false;

        setAppItem('You must enter a username and password.');
        err = true;

  • Issue with Setting Application Item

    Hi All,
    I have an issue with setting the value of application item G_USER_ID as part of the login process.
    I use customized authentication for login. I have created an application item G_USER_ID, and in my CUSTOM_AUTH procedure, I am setting its value as APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('G_USER_ID', l_user_id);
    For some reason, the value is not set to G_USER_ID the first time I login. When I log out and login again without closing the browser, the value is set. Note that I even tested with a static value instead of l_user_id like APEX_UTIL.SET_SESSION_STATE('G_USER_ID', '5555555'); but still fails to set during the first login.
    I hope someone can guide me as to what I am doing wrong here.
    Thanks!

  • Is there a maximum size for an Application Item?

    I have a pl/sql procedure which inserts some records and has an out variable to return a warning message that I want to append to the normal Success message field in the Processes. Unfortunately I found out that if I defined a hidden variable and used the &P1_SUCCESS_MSG. syntax it would strip HTML. Meaning all the break tags get interpreted literally in the success message. I did some searching and read Scott's recommendation to use an Application Item and that worked like a charm....
    Until today when I kept getting a message that an HTTP 404 error that the wwv_flow.accept page can't be found. I systematically took out each process on the page (about 5 of them) and finally realized it only threw the error when a really long string was passed. Long meaning about 3000 characters (2919 to be precise)- I know because I inserted into my debug table once I knew that was the issue.
    Does anyone know a reason why this would occur? And maybe how to avoid it?
    The string is nothing fany its just a bunch of:
    ** Warning: So and So has been assigned to project ABC for x hours in Period y and is overallocated by z hours ** </br>A validation won't work because its not an error, just an informative message to the user. I don't want to stop submission if I hit the condition. TIA!!

    Scott,
    Thanks for your help.
    I think what you'll need to do is set the message text into an application item using an assignment statement in a page process or in a computation. Then leave the success message for the process null. Then branch to the page and have the page display the message (from the item) wherever you like on the page.

  • Guidelines for setting Application Module Pool Size Parameters?

    Are there guidelines for setting the application module pool size parameters, such as initial pool size, maximum pool size, etc., based on the expected number of users or other factors? I've read the developer guide sections (ch 28-29), but still don't have a good feel for how to correctly set the optimal values for the pool configuration parameters? Even more importanty, how do I monitor the pool's efficiency during runtime to determine if the pooling parameters are configured correctly?
    This will be critical to performance and scalability, so I'm looking for a way to get some visibility into how the pooling is working during production operation to assess whether there are bottlenecks/constraints/ineffeciencies?
    Note I am using Tomcat as the java runtime container; ADF BC / JSF jdev 10.1.3.1
    Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

    KUBA - were you able to resolve these issues and if so are there any lessons learned you can share?
    I'm hoping someone from the ADF team can answer our original question including guidelines for setting pool parameters and how to monitor the pool's performance while running in production.
    thanks

  • Set application item from javascript?

    Hi!
    Is it possible to set an APPLICATION ITEM from javascript? If so can some one please point me to the thread, or a FAQ or an example, etc?
    Thanks!
    Dave Venus

    dvenus1,
    Sure. In the script below I check variables and populate based on what I find...
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function Populate_fld()
    var formVehicle = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_VEHICLE').value;
    var formState = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_STATE').value;

    var formName = document.getElementById('P9_HIDE_NAME').value;
    document.getElementById("P9_VEHICLE").value = formVehicle;
    document.getElementById("P9_TAG").value = formTag;
    document.getElementById("P9_STATE").value = formState;
    document.getElementById("P9_VISITOR_NAME").value = formName;
    if (formState = " ")
    document.getElementById("P9_STATE").value = "FL";

  • Application Items - Request Value?

    Hi,
    I am just wondering if someone can explain to me about the request values.
    I set up a page item to display the request value. Now when I put the request attribute into the url, this item displays the value of the request. Except, when calling javascript:doSubmit('SOME_VALUE'); this value doesn't appear in the page item. I was under the impression this function sets the value of the request.
    How does apex know it is the request when it isn't in the page item? (i.e. when using it as a condition).
    Ta,
    Trent

    Hi,
    Why they act differently, I couldn't say. I have seen this in the past, though, and you could "save" the request value in an Application Item and use that in the condition. Have a look at: Re: Trying to identify my tabs in my tree navigator sql
