  • Generic query on documenting and maintaining schema changes -Oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    This is a generic query and i was not getting any particular forum here to put this for suggestions and help.i have put this in the documentation forum also but havent got any inputs.
    Could you all please advise a good and easy way I can store all db related stuff including every detail and minutest change done.
    I work as a Oracle-DB developer and it has been particularly difficult to keep track the changes very much.
    We have a Development pipeline(a code base for development),Testing pipeline(another code base-for Testing)
    and then comes Production Deployment(another one for clients)
    Presently,we have all our DDL,SQL,etc everything scripts stored in a sort of shared location but keeping them updated with every change done
    in any of the above pipelines is very difficult and I end up finding discrepencies between the stored versions and what is in Testing and Production.
    I typically spend a good deal of time doing comparing the entire scripts,schema changes to try to figure out what the right and latest version of a script should be.
    So,need your inputs on any particular free tool,best practises and good process for tracking easily and also maintaining db changes.
    --Thanks
    Dev

    The problem with most configuration management systems is that they were made for files, not database objects. Files such as dlls get replaced by the new version upon deployment, but database tables do not. Tables get upgraded with alter scripts. So if you want to maintain create table scripts, you need to upgrade them with every change, as well as creating alter table scripts.
    For a free configuration management system, see http://subversion.tigris.org/. Such software will also do file comparisons including version comparison.
    For comparing installation scripts to existing schemas, I would create a new schema with the installation script and then compare that new schema to an existing schema using the schema comparison feature in Toad or PLSQL Developer.
    Alternately, you can forget about maintaining installation scripts and just take an export without data from your production or test schema whenever you need to create a new installation. You can also extract DDL from prod using the dbms_metadata package. Embarcadero Rapid SQL was also good for extracting DDL.

  • Help in update generic query

    HI, Some super_id is wrong or null in my #cred table and I want to update with the correct super_id.
    The best way is to COUNT max 'super_id' on the basis of column-'b_id' and 'bid_code'.
    Query condition should be based on 'b_id' and 'bid_code'. Please help for the logic of this update query.
    I want also add the column of 'Correct super_id is:' in the result with the correct super_id.
    Tip. 'b_id' column data must exist in  'bid_code' column. Can we use like command to avoid any hard code in the update and create generic script for update.
    Example of new column of 'Correct super_id is:
    The record of b_id-'SLEP' and bid_code-'SLEP_LEN' has super_id-'2' three times, one time is '1' and one time is 'null'.
    So max super_id is 2 for these and this is correct super_id.
    drop table #cred
    create table #cred (unique_id numeric,b_id char(10), bid_code char(10), super_id numeric)
    insert into #cred values (10012,'SLEP','SLEP_LEN',2)
    insert into #cred values (10013,'SLEP','SLEP_LEN',1)
    insert into #cred values (10014,'SLEP','SLEP_LEN',2)
    insert into #cred values (10015,'SLEP','SLEP_LEN',2)
    insert into #cred values (10016,'SLEP','SLEP_LEN',null)

  • Data format in a generic query

    My boss had given me a tough task. the requirement he gave me is:
    Lets say select tname from tab;
    EMP
    DEPT
    EMPSAL
    i want the table name and the number of records in the table as in one row
    Emp Dept EmpSAl
    100 5 100
    The output should come as 1 row with its result as second row. Is there anyway i can implement this?
    I appreciate your quick reply on this..
    Thank you

    boss is crazy and he wants this report anyhowI think you are allowed to let the database go crazy for the sake of the crazy boss.
    Write the output into a file using utl_file.

  • SSRS MDX Query Dimension Properties Missing

    I have been stumped on this for a few days thought I'd throw this out here. I've read every related article in the forum regarding MDX Queries and Dimension Properties in SSRS Report Developer and haven't found a case exactly like this with a solution that
    works.
    Environment is SQL 2012 SP1 Cum update 5
    I am doing a rather generic query out of MS Project Servers OLAP cube and I can't get the dimension properties to show up in the flattened output for my dataset. See below.
    SELECT
    NON EMPTY { [Measures].[FTE est] } ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY {
    [Value_Stream_Project].[Value_Stream_Project].ALLMEMBERS *
    [Project Status_Project].[Project Status_Project].ALLMEMBERS *
    DESCENDANTS([Project List].[Project List Level 02].ALLMEMBERS)*
    DESCENDANTS([ProjectManager_Project].[ProjectManager_Project Level 02].ALLMEMBERS) *
    [Planner_Project].[Planner_Project].ALLMEMBERS *
    [Time].[Month].ALLMEMBERS
    DIMENSION PROPERTIES
    MEMBER_CAPTION,
    MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME,
    PARENT_UNIQUE_NAME,
    LEVEL_NUMBER ,
    [Project List].[Project List Level 02].[Start Date],
    [Project List].[Project List Level 02].[Finish Date]
    ON ROWS
    FROM (
    SELECT ( STRTOMEMBER(@FromTime, CONSTRAINED) : STRTOMEMBER(@ToTime, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS
    FROM (
    SELECT ( STRTOSET(@RBSResource, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS
    FROM (
    SELECT ( STRTOSET(@ProjectStatusProject, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS
    FROM (
    SELECT ( STRTOSET(@ValueStreamProject, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS
    FROM [MSP_Portfolio_Analyzer]))))
    My issue is the [Project List Level 02] dimension Properties  (below) are not showing up in the Query designer output, aren't being generated as fields in the dataset and can't be referenced as a property in an expression (i.e. Fields!Project_List("Start
    Date") )
    [Project List].[Project List Level 02].[Start Date],
    [Project List].[Project List Level 02].[Finish Date]
    The odd part is if I change the above two rows in my query to this :
    [Project List].[Start Date],
    [Project List].[Finish Date]
    The Query designer shows the properties in the output but leads to  2 other issues,
    1) I have to modify the generated Dataset field values to remove the [Project list Level 02] in the Level unique name like this
    Before<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><Field xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xsi:type="MemberProperty" PropertyName="Project List - Start Date" LevelUniqueName="[Project List].[Project List Level 02]" />
    After
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><Field xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xsi:type="MemberProperty" PropertyName="Project List - Start Date" LevelUniqueName="[Project List]" />
    2) I have to restrict my cross join to only the current level (Level 02) or it expands the results to the parent hierarchy of the Project List dimension and skews my measure summaries.
    I've tested the query in SSMS directly and the properties are showing up just fine for those dimensions using the original syntax.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,
    Which data source provider are you using?  Are the connection strings used in SSMS the same as SSRS? Doing a profiler trace against Analysis Services might point to differences in how the connection is made or query is parsed.
    This may help.
    http://www.sqlchick.com/entries/2011/10/23/pros-cons-of-using-the-ole-db-provider-for-ssas-100-when-rep.html
    Did you try using With clause to make a friendly name for the member properties?

  • Anomaly when query timeout in Data buffer

    Hello experts
    I'm using MII12.2 and query buffered (allow buffering flag) on a database with several tables locks.
    When I get a query timeout (LastErrorMessage of the query is "Response timed out, request terminated"), the query is not queued in the buffer.
    Just if I send the query to the buffer setting a wrong used id in the dataserver, then the manager works properly (when I restore the used id, the query completes its logic when the lock is released)
    If anybody wants to replicate the enviroment, the query for table lock in SQL Server is
         BEGIN TRANSACTION
         SELECT * FROM [your table name] WITH (TABLOCKX, HOLDLOCK);
         WAITFOR DELAY '00:10:00'
         ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
    You have to run it in SQL Manager, not in MII
    Sequence:
    - Create in MII a generic query with SELECT * FROM [your table name], and enable "allow buffering"
    - Call it in a transaction (if you want, with exception handler)
    - Run the lock query in SQL Server
    - Run the transaction (while the table is locked by SQL Server query) and wait transaction/query error
    - Check data buffer: the MII query is not buffered
    Is it normal?
    Is there any patch?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Fabio

    Hi Fabio,
    I think the query does not gets buffered because no communication error happened.
    MII would buffer an external call if there is a communication error.
    But in your case the communication happened fine and the DB did not gave the response and thus time out happened. One more scenario of this type is if we write a query with syntax error. Here also the communication will happen with the DB but the DB will give the error thus MII will not buffer the query.

  • How to make a column values as fields - Generic one needed -help me....!

    Hi,
    There are some data dictionary views to get the list of column names and their id.
    eg: all_tab_columns
    I am querying the fiels for EMP table..
    Select column_name,column_id from all_tab_columns where table_name='EMP' order by column_id;
    column Name column_id
    EMPNO 1
    ENAME 2
    SAL 3
    My reuuirement is nothing but the values of COLUMN_NAME should be displayed as an individual field that is..
    EMPNO,ENAME,SAL
    Likewise, it should react for all tables that is the values should transformed into fields..
    Please help me out in this regard..
    Thanks in advance...

    The reason why i need the generic query to frame the column values into individual fiels is , the explicit cursor can not be used for binding sql statments and moreover i want to create the record type based on the explicit cursor due to some requirement in creating generic procedure..
    So, I need a help for creating column values individual fields meaning
    select column_name from all_tab_columns where table_name='EMP'
    COLUMN_NAME
    EMPNO
    ENAME
    SAL
    the answer should be
    empno ename sal
    Pleaese help me ...

  • Query database and return result set to cells.

    hello all i have vsto solution im building im trying to put together a generic query text box for my end user the only problem is that it appears to be that with oracle data access when you do a query you must pass all the values to a variable.
    Sub Orcl()
            Dim oradb As String = "Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=" _
                       + "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xxx)(PORT=1521)))" _

                       + "User Id=xx;Password=xx;"
             Dim conn As New Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection(oradb) ' Visual Basic
            conn.Open()
            Query = select * from fabinvh
            Dim cmd As New Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleCommand
            cmd = conn.CreateCommand()
            cmd.Connection = conn
            cmd.CommandText = Query
            Dim dr As Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDataReader = cmd.ExecuteReader()
            While dr.Read()
                Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.ActiveCell.Value = (dr.Item(1))''' HOW DO I CHANGE HERE TO JUST BRING IN ALL THE COLUMNS AND HEADERS?
                Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select()
            End While
            dr.Dispose()
            cmd.Dispose()
            conn.Dispose()
        End Subthanks in advance im able to do this with oo4o rather easily but I'm tryint go learn more of the odp.net oracle data access and learning is pretty slow right now.

    ok I think im getting closer to my answer i believe i need to use the
    GetValues. property. does anyone have an example on how to use this i keep getting errors when i try it.

  • Maintaining multiple query templates

    Hi,
    We created a generic query templates for SQL Query and this query template does not have any query specified inside the Query Template. The SQL query is assigned inside the xMII transaction. Instead of creating and maintaing multiple query templates for various SQL queries, we created this single query template and we use this query template by assigning the SQL query in xMII Transaction at runtime. Will there be any issues around this approach?
    Thanks,
    Sara

    This approach limits the reusability/maintainability of your queries.  If any query is to be used more than once (e.g. in a UI application or more than one BLS transaction), it makes sense to put it in its own query template.  Also, if you want to take advantage of xMII's caching infrastructure, you should also do this.
    There's also a small possibility in the future (I'm no longer with SAP, but just suggesting it is a possible outcome) that the SQL will not be dynamically assignable to avoid SQL code injection security issue(s).

  • Error while calling a Webservice from a custom findBy operation

    Hello
    I have created an External Service by importing a WebService(XI) which is a wrapper for BAPI BAPI_VENDOR_GETDETAIL. Tested the webservice and it works fine.
    I created an Entity Service Vendor and created 4 attributes vendorNo and companyCode, vendorName and city. I created an operation findByVendorNo then did the mapping with the webservice output.
    Now when I execute, I get the following error. Tried debugging but there is no source code for the class in which this error is coming from.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
    This error:
    Unexpected exception while enlisting XAConnection java.sql.SQLException: Transaction rolled back: Unknown reason
    means the transaction has previously been marked for rollback.
    I suspect a call prior to:
    vodafone.droplet.AnonymousPurchaseProdDroplet.service(AnonymousPurchaseProdDroplet.java:87)
    has failed and marked the transaction for rollback (typically an exception from ATG GSA code would do this). To clarify:
    RepositoryItem repItem = productRepository.getItem("sku550018", "configurableSku");
    may not use a transaction if the item is already in cache, so the failure is likely before that.
    You should look at prior errors from this code and make sure you are logging all exceptions in this droplet, so the root cause is not "hidden". Also, it could be something earlier on the page or request as well if the code you gave is the first GSA code in the droplet.
    Thanks.

  • PO print for fax/email transmission

    Folks,
    Have a generic query. How would you print the POs that were transmitted by FAX or EMAIL without adding a new message type?
    The users in Prod. system have access to ME23N alone. If the message type was set as print, then no issues as they could go ahead and just reprint it.
    However for the POs set as FAX/PRINT, the print icon does not appear.
    What is the way out then?
    Have tried with SP01, but could not get the PO print.
    How is the spool no. found for a given PO. I checked in the processing logs for the messages, it said 'No processing log exists'.
    Regards,
    Sameer

    do u wanna say u havnt configure print medum and u need to have print
    or u have took fax or mailed it and now u need to take print
    for case 1 print not possible
    for case2 go to me9f select sucessfully processed and give po nno
    u will get the entry select it go to message details then here add new output for print and save
    please clerify ur question
    regards

  • Problem with multiple group functions

    Hello Everyone...
    I have a huge problem with trying to create a report.
    Here is the situation:
    1. I have a database that registers certain events for units. Each event is stored in a separate register.
    2. There is a specific code that the units have that I need to identify their origin, because they must be grouped by origin. The origin is identified by the first digit of the code. This code only appears in the events that occur after production.
    3. Before that, an order number is used to identify the events.
    4. What I need is to identify the time difference between two specific events, and get the following: average, standard deviation, count, and level of service. The level of service is the percentage of units in which the difference was no higher than the average plus the standard deviation.
    I managed to create a query that does that, but it is too slow.
    Since I can't reveal my code, I will try to explain in words what I did:
    1. I created two almost identical queries that obtain the event information I need. The first one obtains the information of the event that occurs the earliest. (let's call this queries 1 and 2)
    2. As this is supposed to be a generic query that only needs to be modified for different events, it contemplates the case that the event is before production and does not include the specific code I mentioned earlier. So I created another query that uses the order number and looks for a (later) production event to obtain that code. (let's call this query 3).
    3. Then I obtained count, standard deviation and average for the difference between events.
    4. Then, for the service level, I had to create an outside query that again uses queries 1, 2, and 3 because it needs the information of individual units to calculate it. So here is the structure of my query, using some pseudocode (I'm not revealing any actual code):
    Select (averagestd.origin, average, stddev,
    sum(case
    when abs(q2.vehicle_event_dt - q1.vehicle_event_dt -
    average) <= stddev then
    1
    else
    0
    end) / count service_level from
    (select q1.origin,
    avg(q2.vehicle_event_dt -q1.vehicle_event_dt),
    stddev(q2.vehicle_event_dt - q1.vehicle_event_dt),
    count(*) from
    (select {event data} from query1, query3 where
    query1.order_number = query3.order_number) q1,
    (select {event data} from query2, query3 where
    query1.order_number = query3.order_number) q2
    where q1.order_number=q2.order_number) avgstd,
    (select {event data} from query1, query3 where
    query1.order_number = query3.order_number) q1,
    (select {event data} from query2, query3 where
    query1.order_number = query3.order_number) q2
    where q1.order_number = q2.order_number and
    q1.origin = avgstd.origin
    The database is huge and it's taking too long to run it.
    Do you have any idea on how can I optimize this query?
    All the information in all queries comes from the same table.
    Thank you very much for your help.
    Eduardo Schnadower

    Okay, so my report is set up as above with 4 groups
    group 1 group code
    group 2 sub group code
    group 3 customer code
    group 4 product code
    what i need to be able to do is select the sub group total and run a sub report to display the products total for that sub group and then the same for group, run a report from the group total to show the products which make up that group total. Is there any other way to acheive this?
    Cheers Paul

  • Error while testing an application service

    Hi,
    I have created a project wherein I have imported a standard BAPI as an external service and calling this external service in an application service.
    Following is the code used for the same:
    public com.sap.esproj.appsrv.datatypes.CompanyData getUserDetails(java.lang.String id) throws com.sap.caf.rt.exception.ServiceException {
            // logging
            java.lang.String CAF_user = sessionContext.getCallerPrincipal().getName();
            java.lang.String CAF_methodHeader = ESAppServiceBean.JARM_REQUEST + ":" + "getUserDetails(java.lang.String)";
            Object[] CAF_parameters = new Object[] {id};
            com.sap.caf.rt.util.CAFPublicLogger.entering(CAF_user, ESAppServiceBean.JARM_REQUEST, CAF_methodHeader, ESAppServiceBean.location, CAF_parameters);
              com.sap.esproj.appsrv.datatypes.CompanyData retValue;
              try {
    //@@custom code start - getUserDetails(java.lang.String)
                   retValue = null;
    //                  Create data container for Input-Parameter and fill it.
                   BAPI__USER__GET__DETAIL
                         params = new BAPI__USER__GET__DETAIL();
                         params.setUSERNAME(id);
    //                  Get reference to the object representing the external service call.
                   BAPI__USER__GET__DETAILLocal bapi_local = this.getBAPI__USER__GET__DETAIL();
                   try {
    //                  Call the BAPI.
    //                  Return value of this method call contains all the data that the BAPI returns.
                        BAPI__USER__GET__DETAIL_dot_Response result = bapi_local.BAPI__USER__GET__DETAIL(params);
    //                  Retrieve the address structure out of the result data container.
                     BAPIADDR3 addr =
                   result.getADDRESS();
    //                  Fill the application services return structure.
                     retValue = new CompanyData();
                     retValue.setFirstName(addr.getFIRSTNAME());
                     retValue.setLastName(addr.getLASTNAME());
                   } catch (Exception e) {
                     e.printStackTrace();
                     throw new ServiceException(e);
    //@@custom code end - getUserDetails(java.lang.String)
                 return retValue;
            } finally {
                com.sap.caf.rt.util.CAFPublicLogger.exiting(CAF_user, ESAppServiceBean.JARM_REQUEST, CAF_methodHeader, ESAppServiceBean.location, CAF_parameters);
    I have also completed external service configuration.
    There is no compile time error and deployment is successful. When I try to test the application service I am getting the following error: ERROR. The following exception occured while processing your request: com.sap.caf.rt.exception.ServiceException.:
    Can anyone help me in resolving this error.
    Regards,
    Murtuza

    Hi Asutosh,
