Maintaining multiple query templates

Hi,
We created a generic query templates for SQL Query and this query template does not have any query specified inside the Query Template. The SQL query is assigned inside the xMII transaction. Instead of creating and maintaing multiple query templates for various SQL queries, we created this single query template and we use this query template by assigning the SQL query in xMII Transaction at runtime. Will there be any issues around this approach?

This approach limits the reusability/maintainability of your queries. If any query is to be used more than once (e.g. in a UI application or more than one BLS transaction), it makes sense to put it in its own query template. Also, if you want to take advantage of xMII's caching infrastructure, you should also do this.
There's also a small possibility in the future (I'm no longer with SAP, but just suggesting it is a possible outcome) that the SQL will not be dynamically assignable to avoid SQL code injection security issue(s).

I think you're getting the idea, but:
You're still selecting 2 columns in the (scalar) subquery. Did you read the link I posted for you?
"a) scalar subqueries - *a single row, single column query that you use in place of a "column"*, it looks like a column or function."
You must move that query outside, join to template.
Something like:

Calling Oracle stored procedure from xMII Query Templates.

Hi All,
We have a requirement to call a Oracle stored procedure from xMII, the SP expects some inputs and then it returns multiple rows.
I tried different approches with no results, I remember some posts on the same topic but I could not get in search results.
Looking for some help in this regards

Hi Rupesh Bajaj,
In oracle stored procedure we have to use Packages..if you used packages the u have to assign to some variable.
To calling Stored procedure in Query Template is CALL Testing('[Param.1]','[Param.2]',,:X)
In above line Testing is Stored procedure name and Param.1 is parameters and X is Package.

Hi Muzammil,
In data range section you can have multiple options like setting start datetime and end datetime.. And you can set the shift (or) time period and also the format of the time periods.
Primarily we use the start date and end date querying to fetch data between two time labels. I can explain this one with example..
You have batch production table with columns Production Time, Batch Id, Production Qty. Then you want all the details between the 02/02/2007 to 05/02/2007.
Solution :
1.Map 02/02/2007 with Start date.
2.Map 05/02/2007 with end dare.
Now these two become the variables [SD] and [ED].
Now you have mentioned the date range, but you need to mention for which column these things to be applied. For that
3.In Query tab enter Production Time column name in Date column at the bottom.
Now you have written query like Select * from batch prodcution where production time > 02/02/2007 and production time < 05/02/2007.
4. Even those values you mapped (SD and ED) you can change from the front page through Java script.
Like wise you have so many other advantages also.

How to Save SQL query template as a text file

How to save a SQL query template in my server as a Text file?? I tried using Text saver but it is not getting saved in the path specified.

Hi Sweety,
In the transaction editor (for business logic), add your query template to a transaction. Add a Tracer after and link the Query property of the SQL Query action block to the Message property of the transaction. Run the transaction and you will see your Action Block's sql script as the message from the Tracer. You can do the same with the Server property, SD and ED, etc.
Also if you wish to dynamically load the sql script into the query, you can do that at run time by linking a script source to the query property. Useful to have if you have to use a complex expression to dynamically create your script. This sometimes occurs when you have multiple filtering inputs from a webpage and you can reduce the number of tables in a complex join when the fields are left empty. Normally this would be done as a way to improve the performance of the query.
Hopefully this is clear. If not I can probably provide some sample expressions.

How to set the table input in Query template?

I need to call a Bapi_objcl_change, with import parameter and a table as an input. I have done this, in BLS. I have set the table input in the
form of xml. In BLS, I get the output(the value gets change in SAP R3, what i have given in BLS). But if i set the same xml structure in
query template, I didn't get the output. Table input parameter does not take that xml source. How to set the table input in Query template?

You probably need to XML encode the data so that it will pass properly and then xmldecode() it to set the BAPI input value.

As Nanda said, just go to tcode SE03..Click Unlock Objects (Expert Tool)..Paste your TR number (one at a time) then click Unlock..
Go back to SE10 and delete your TR numbers..

For example let us assume that we have created 2 payments formats as 'XX-PAY1' & 'XX-PAY2'.
When i select the parameter as '1' then 'XX-PAY1' has to run else 'XX-PAY2'.
if its possible could you please tel us where to define the parameters in Setups.

How to pass multiple query string values using the same parameter in Query String (URL) Filter Web Part

I want to pass multiple query string values using the same parameter in Query String (URL) Filter Web Part like mentioned below:

But it always return those items whose "Title" value is "Arup". It is not returned any items whose "Title" is "Ratan".

Hi DH, sorry for not being clear.
It works when I create the connection from that web part that you want to be connected with the Query String Filter Web part. So let's say you created a web part page. Then you could connect a parameterized Excel Workbook to an Excel Web Access Web Part
(or a Performance Point Dashboard etc.) and you insert it into your page and add
a Query String Filter Web Part . Then you can connect them by editing the Query String Filter Web Part but also by editing the Excel Web Access Web Part. And only when I created from the latter it worked
with multiple values for one parameter. If you have any more questions let me know. See you, Ingo

Calling a Stored Procedure with output parameters from Query Templates

This is same problem which Shalaka Khandekar logged earlier. This new thread gives the complete description about our problem. Please go through this problem and suggest us a feasible solution.
We encountered a problem while calling a stored procedure from MII Query Template as follows-
1. Stored Procedure is defined in a package. Procedure takes the below inputs and outputs.
a) Input1 - CLOB
b) Input2 - CLOB
c) Input3 - CLOB
d) Output1 - CLOB
e) Output2 - CLOB
f) Output3 - Varchar2
2. There are two ways to get the output back.
a) Using a Stored Procedure by declaring necessary OUT parameters.
b) Using a Function which returns a single value.
3. Consider we are using method 2-a. To call a Stored Procedure with OUT parameters from the Query Template we need to declare variables of
corresponding types and pass them to the Stored Procedure along with the necessary input parameters.
4. This method is not a solution to get output because we cannot declare variables of some type(CLOB, Varchar2) in Query Template.
5. Even though we are successful (step 4) in declaring the OUT variables in Query Template and passed it successfully to the procedure, but our procedure contains outputs which are of type CLOB. It means we are going to get data which is more than VARCHAR2 length which query template cannot return(Limit is 32767
characters)
6. So the method 2-a is ruled out.
7. Now consider method 2-b. Function returns only one value, but we have 3 different OUT values. Assume that we have appended them using a separator. This value is going to be more than 32767 characters which is again a problem with the query template(refer to point 5). So option 2-b is also ruled out.
Apart from above mentioned methods there is a work around. It is to create a temporary table in the database with above 3 OUT parameters along with a session specific column. We insert the output which we got from the procedure to the temporary table and use it further. As soon the usage of the data is completed we delete the current session specific data. So indirectly we call the table as a Session Table. This solution increases unnecessary load on the database.

please check if this following proposal could serve you.
Define the Query with mode FixedQueryWithOutput. In the package define a ref cursor as IN OUT parameter. To get your 3 values back, open the cursor in your procedure like "Select val1, val2, val3 from dual". Then the values should get into your query.
Here is an example how this could be defined.
Package:
type return_cur IS ref CURSOR;
Procedure:
PROCEDURE myProc(myReturnCur IN OUT return_cur) ...
OPEN myReturnCur FOR SELECT val1, val2, val3 FROM dual;
Query:
DECLARE
MYRETURNCUR myPackage.return_cur;
BEGIN
myPackage.myProc(
MYRETURNCUR => ?
END;

Both geometric matching techniques rely on curves extracted from image to perform the matching. The two geometric matching techniques differ in how the curve information is used to perform the matching. The edge-based geometric matching method computes the gradient value of the edge at each point along the curves found in the image and uses the gradient value and the position of the point from the center of the template to perform the matching. The feature-based geometric matching method extracts geometric features from the curves and uses these geometric features to perform the matching.

The article also explain when it is better to use one versus the other.
I couldn't test the templates yesterday, because you did not attach a match image.
I might be wrong, but another thing I noticed is that it looks like you thresholded the images prior to extracting the templates. In general, algorithms that need to extract edges from images, such as geometric matching, will work better when you provide them with the grayscale image, as opposed with a thresholded image. The contour extraction will be more accurate. Also, the algorithm does not only use contour information, but also grayscale information of the image. By thresholding the image, one removes a lot of information that the algorithm can use.
On a last note, combining templates into one is only going to help with speed. If speed is not an issue in your application, you can still learn with Edge Based matching and match all template. If there is a match, the character/number you looked for is the right one.
Another solution might be to use a reverse technique, still using Edge Based matching that seems to work better in your case. We sometimes use it to solve classification applications similar to what you are trying to do:
Instead of learning multiple templates and trying to locate them in your image, take the opposite approach: create a synthetic image that contain your templates (all rotated 1s on one line... all rotated 5s on another line etc). Then if you can locate and extract the number (using blob analysis) on the original image, you can extract that region, learn it as a template, and look for it in the synthetic image. The line you find it indicates which digit it is.
Again, this technique might work if you can extract the digit you're trying to identify from the original image. Performance wise, it is only interesting if learning the extracted digit on the fly is faster than trying to match all the separate templates (learning takes more time than matching).
It looks like you're trying to perform OCR on the image. Again, if the text is always located at the same place and you can draw a region of interest around it, you can try the OCR algorithm and define different classes that have the same label for the different rotated digits.
I tried to give you different possible approaches. Hope that was not too confusing.

How can I maintain multiple white spaces in a PDF written from InDesign?

I need to have 2 white spaces maintained (within a part #) in the PDF I write, but when I open in Acrobat it converts it to one space.
I've tried word spaces, set spaces and applying "no color" to a placeholder character and nothing is working!
Any ideas or suggestions?

I am talking about normal white space. Multiple fixed widt spaces are not a problem. How the space is handled in a PDF depends on how it is created.

It may not be a great idea to use multiple spaces, but it certainly is not prohibited and sometimes is necessary -- you might want a 2em space, or a thin space before and after a tab you underline in a form.
I'm able to select the multiple spaces just fine in Acrobat 9 using the text touch-up tool.

Unable to display results of multiple query in grid in Oracle SQL Developer

Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and couldn't find the Oracle SQL Developer forum so posting it here.
My question: How to display multiple query results in grid in Oracle SQL Developer.
Example:
select * from Employee;
select * from Department;
- when I select both the queries and hit F5 in Oracle sql developer. By default it displays in output window.
- How to display result of both the queries in Grid.
Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.

Hi Harsh,
I'd say that the Results grid is designed to only show the results of 1 query at a time. I don't know/can't see how it would display multiple queries at a time.
I would suggest either joining your tables to create a single query or opening another SQL Worksheet for one of the queries so that you can display the results side-by-side.
Maybe you could explain what you're trying to do. Why are you trying to display multiple results in the same query grid?

Best Practice in maintaining multiple apps and user logins

My company is just starting to use APEX, and none of us (the developers) have worked on this before either. It is greatly appreciated if we can get some help here.
We have developed quite a few applications in the same workspace. Now, we are going to setup UAT and PRD environments and also trying to understand what the best practice is to maintain multiple apps and user logins.
Many of you have already worked on APEX environment for sometime, can you please provide some input?
Should we create multiple apps(projects) for one department or should we create one app for one department?
Currently we have created multiple apps for one department, but, we are not sure if a user can login once and be able to access to all the authenticated apps.

I am not sure how much of this applies to your situation - but I will share what I have done.
I built a single 700+ page application for my department - other areas create separate smaller applications.
The approach I chose is flexible enough to accomdate both.
I built a separate access control application(Control) in its own schema.
We use database authenication fo this app - an oracle account is required.
We prefer to use LDAP for authentication for the user applications.
For users that LDAP is not option - an encrypted password is stored - reset via email.
We use position based security - priviliges are based on job functions.
We have applications, appilcations have roles , roles have access to components(tabs,buttons,unmasked card numbers,etc.)
We have positions that are granted application roles - they inherit access to the role components.
Users have a name, a login, a position, and a site.
We have users on both the East Coast and the West Coast, we use the site in a sys_context
and views to emulate VPD. We also use the role components,sys_contexts and views to mask/unmask
card numbers without rewriting the dependent objects(querys,reports,views,etc.)
The position based security has worked well, when someone moves,
we change the position they are assigned to and they immediately have the privileges they need.
