GeoMAP / GIS ...

I have tried to run the GeoMap tutorials. They mention that I have to configure a GIS. So I have checked SDN, indeed there were a couple of questions regarding this issue. Unfortunately none of the threads really answered the question:
Can anybody please help me with this:
- Do I have to run my own GIS, or can I use one over the Internet? If yes, which one...?
- Does it mean: no GIS - no GeoMaps?
- Where do I configure the GIS URL. I have found how to set the IGS URL, but I guess that's not it. I am using WebAS Java standalone, so all the ABAP transactions to configure it won't help.
Any hints?

Yep I did, but it was still not the enlightenment ;-( - or I am still blind. However, thanks a lot for posting the link.
The most useful information I found so far was in the XI documentation. There they say:
"Geocoding is implemented with ArcView GIS software from ESRI"
I have used geo maps with BW (so I can tell it works), so I'll have a look at the IGS config file at our XI server tomorrow.

as suggested by Armin Reichert I opened an OSS message regarding the integration of GIS systems with Web DynPro/IGS.
Here is a quote from the SAP answer:
A GIS that can be implemented
on a project-specific basis is provided by
ptv Planungsbüro Transport Verkehr AG,
Stumpfstrasse 1, 76131 Karlsruhe, Germany.
You can use ESRI in combination with Business Intelligence (BI).
Further questions from my side led to the statement that the mentioned GIS is the
ONLY one that can be integrated with Web DynPro/IGS.
Maybe this helps to clear up the confusion about this matter.

Creating XML file and transport to GIS (gentran integration suite)

Hello Experts,
I have a requirement. I need to convert the data from an internal table to    XML Format file   , and send that XML file to
GIS application   [ gentran integration suite -   middleware applicationa ]
i need to save that file to Unix-Filesystem and call an FTP transfer routine to GIS.
[   Purpose of   GIS --> Transforming data (using services) from different applications so that it can be communicated to other
systems.Moving and communicating data between different systems external to Gentran Integration Suite,using adapters. ]

I do not think that you need to know more than the basics of Gentran, as you will have to upgrade PI, not Gentran.

The functionality of the GIS map was important. I was given the email for the person in charge of the map, who helped me out. It appeared that he was able to outline the road in the neighborhood that I needed to focus on. That provided a parcel ID, which in turn made it possible to focus in on the proper area. This is supposition on my part; perhaps he has other info that gave him the parcel ID.
I agree with Ken...I'm not a huge fan of Flash on other than desktops and laptops, but it is what it is, client needs to use it, I need to help the client out!

GIS Map Viewer

Hi all,
Im trying to develop a simple GIS (Geographical Information Systems) application in Java to render maps and vector layers (simple GIS) on the screen. The maps are standard tiff objects alongwith projection information. Which is the best container for such type of application. Also please suggest the best way to display symbols in the vector layers. There will be provision to zoom in and out, panning, etc. (standard GIS features).

How do I add user to a Contact Role in 11i? ( GIS )

I was trying to find out how to add a list of users to a contact role in GIS? Initially the contact used to be individual email_id's , but right now the user email_ids are added to a new role and in the subsidiary company setup the contact is having a pointer to the role.

Yes, Hussein.. If you login to EBS as a user with GIS Responsibility --> setup -- > Intercompany -- > Subsidiaries
in the form u will notice 'Notification Options' and you will see a field ' Contact '. This filed normally used to be a email id. For easy manageability they have created a contact role and assigned users to this role. I do now how to get the list of contact roles and how to add the new users to the role, so they can get notifications.

Create GIS benchmark work order by calling stored procedure in WAM?

We currently have Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Management(WAM) Version 1.9.0.4.7 implemented in our test environment. Our WAM has GIS related asset data. We are able to create GIS benchmark work order through WAM web interface. I am currently working on a web application that presents GIS work order data on the map and allow users to create new work order etc. I am wondering if it is possible to create GIS benchmark work order by calling a stored procure from WAM database? Has anyone done this before?

GIS and W manager 6.1, Does someone made it to work on android?

Hi i'm trying to integrate work manager 6.1 with GIS (ESri ArcGis) and it does not work, everything leads to errors and as stated by SAP it is supposed to work "out of the box".
I'm really frustrated now, I was able to generate the branded client with GIS libraries to the point that the map is being displayed, but no matter what option is selected, the application gets closed with an exception. (In any kind of android devices, its the same).

The steps to generate the branded client are the following:
1) Download the latest agentry client solution (7.90 by now).
2) Download ArcGis runtime SDK
3) Add the mobile apps librarys
4) run the sh brand.sh and the apk get generated
5) Download and run the application on the device, connect to agentry server and walla!.
The locations tab is there, and the map gets displayed on the screen, but does not work a bit of it. Anything you touch leads to an agentry Crash.
Does anyone were able to run the ArcGis out of the box integration, on android devices?

Yes it does work. It has been a while since I have built a client but one thing I recall is that the brand.sh script for branding did not properly pickup the Esri libraries and Open UI projects. I always created the .apk from within Eclipse after renaming the package.
To set the Application package so your version can co-exist with the generic client on the device
Select AgentryAndroidClientSolution project
Right click -> Android Tools -> Rename Application Package
Set the package name to whatever you desire
Finish
Yes to updating launch configurations
Then to build the .apk I simply right click on the AgentryAndroidClientSolution project and Export to the .apk through the wizard.
I believe there will also be another step if you are going to deploy on Andorid L (5.x) due to changes in the permission model but I am currently working through that as time permits myself so I can't give specifics yet.
Give that a try! I do know they are looking at modifying the Open UI projects to work with the brand.sh script for a future release.

GIS Integration on Win 8 - Work manager 6.1

I understand that OpenUI API can be used to write native code ( .NET) to integrate GIS app wih Agentry app on Windows.
If someone has implemented this on Windows, Please provide insights on this.
I know that one can implement the GetExtensionString(String key) method of ICustomAgentryControl interface to fetch the external control’s value. How does the GIS app update the OpenUI control?

Custom Geomaps

Can you use a custom world geomap created with MapInfo in BusinessObjects Mobile? We are converting from Cognos to BusinessObjects and we have a Cognos Active Report that uses a custom world map. We spend quite a bit of time with the customer creating exactly what they wanted to see and they will not accept it having to be changed. Also, is their any equivalent to active reports in BO? I haven't seen where you can create disconnected interactive reports in BO (Cognos Active Report are mht files).

GIS question: visualisation of locations based on longitude/latitude

Hi,
First of all: I'm a total beginner for everything related to GIS. I'm a bit lost at where to start, so any hints are welcome.
I have a table with a number of locations, for each location I have values for the longitude and latitude (Oracle format).
Would it be able to visualize these locations on a map using Oracle Locator, MapViewer or Google Earth ? I'm using Oracle 10g with patch set 10.2.0.4.

Oracle Database are having through Oracle Locator support for spatial data storage via its datatype sdo_geometry.
A good place to start is the user documentation:

In your particular case your Longitude latitude columns could be use as follows:
Add a column GEOMETRY of datatype sdo_geometry to your table
UPdate that via:
update YOUR_TABLE a
set geometry=
sdo_geometry(
2001, ---2D point
8307, --- SRID (assuming WGS84 for your lon/lat)
sdo_point_type(a.longitude, b.latitude, null), ---specific point notation
null,
null);
create an entry in the user_sdo_geom_metadata (see user manual)
create an index (see user manual)
Once you have these in place, you can start looking to some solutions as you mentioned or as described by Ivan to use this data to be visualised.

They are permitted.
Pproperly designed 'cartridges' use the published Oracle spec. If they live within the restrictions of XE (size, CPU, and no Java stored procedures) they should work.
Oracle Locator is an example of a properly designed cartridge. So is intermedia.
Locator does not have any Java SPs and works in XE.
intermedia does use Java SPs and does not work in XE.
