Gestures on iPAD 1

One of the useful things broght into iOS 5 was gestures but unless I have an undiagnosed head injury I don't seem to be able to get gestures to work? What am I missing? Is this feature only available on iPAD 2?

Thanks King - after I posted the question I started to discover other threads confirming your answer. Got to admit itsirritating and I don't say that often about Apple personally. Thanks for your help though - much obliged! David

I need an answer.......because this is not fair.......

Only Apple could answer that and Apple does not post here. As to whether or not it's fair, life is not fair.

  • No gestures for iPad 1 in iOS 5? Apple, are you kidding us?!

    This is not fair.

I upgraded my personal original iPad to 5.0 trusting this functionality would continue to work(1). This is really disappointing since there is no reason why it would not work in the original iPad, it worked perfectly fine in 4.3.X when being a developer.
I worship apple products but it is really unpleasant when there are features that are being removed especially when it is my favourite feature.
Since my Home button is damaged, my iPad becames pretty much unusable now.
Please, reconsider this decision, it is a very bad marketing decision!

    Multitasking Gestures for iPad
iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

  • Why not Multi-Touch Gestures for iPad 1 Apple?

    Why?????

I'm curious, what's buggy about the gestures? I've had an iPad 1 running multitouch gestures for months, and haven't noticed any issues. Granted, the gesture I use most of the time is the four-finger swipe-up to reveal recent apps, but I often swipe between Safari and iThoughts when doing research. *Love* the feature, and I'm staying at iOS 4 for the time being until I see what Apple's next move is on this. Other iOS 5 features aren't compelling enough to lose gestures, in my view.
One thing I've learned about updates: always let someone else be the first to adopt them, then check forums a day or two later to find out where the pitfalls lie. I would've been pretty peeved if I'd have read the copy on Apple's website that called out the gestures as an iPad feature rather than exclusive to iPad 2, then installed and lost gestures. People are justifiably ticked off about that, I think (and yes, I've sent feedback to Apple to share that opinion --- it can't hurt to try.)

  • Gestures for iPad 1. Very poor Apple.

Apple anticipated this outrage about tossing the original supporters od the IPad under the bus. So what is the response Apple? Why? Without the first buyers of the iPad, the second gen never exists. You know this. We are not telling you anything you. Do not know. Give us gestures or some explanation. I am syre we will actually hear you words regarding the explanation ... And not just hear $$$$$$$$$$$$$ from you (ios5 has sarcasm font right?).
    Thanks for alienating me.

Sounds like you were addressing Apple to me. However, if you really want to know what I think of your opinion...I think you're overreacting.

  • Where are Multitasking Gestures for iPad 1

I have been using Multitasking Gestures on an iPad 1 for some time now.
It was enbled through Xcode, however I can't see how to turn it back on following the iOS5 update.
    Can anyone help?

Apple should think carefully about how they treat iPad1 users.
iPad1 users are the tech savvy people who moved first and recommended to their friends that they come on board when iPad2 was released.
However, experiences like this might inspire us to find alternatives to the next logical step (iPad3), given that Apple are unnecessarily limiting the features of older devices.  If Apple want to inspire us to find alternatives to iPad3 and help our friends make the switch too, then just keep following this older style of business model!

  • Apple, why did you delete multi touch gestures for iPad in iOS5?

I have to say that this is a bit of a kick in the teeth. We spend all this money on Apple products, expecting software updates to add the he functionality of these devises - not to have really cool functions taken away... Why would you take this away? If it is a performance issue at least give people the option to turn it on or off.
Bring it back please in 5.0.1... Oh and fix all the bugs that had me deleting apple apps like 'find my phone' and reinstalling them from the app store...

Apple never included multitouch gestures in a consumer release of iOS before 5. You had to use developer tools to get them. So, from their standpoint, they never gave it to you in the first place.  But, at any rate, you're not addressing Apple here. • Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

Why can I not use multi-touch gestures on my original iPad with iOS 5?

It would appear that apple has managed to p1ss off  alot of ipad one users in one fowl swoop, what makes it worse is that fact we were the early adoptors who got asked, why do you want a big iphone for? and then spent time showing people how good it was! actually promoting it for apple! and then to get this kick in the teeth is frustrating! i wish i had known about xcode before!
    however!
keep sending feedback, i must have sent twenty yesterday and will keep sending them untill i get a reply from these idiots! and wont stop untill i do, the more feedback sheets we fill in the more they will have to listen, it takes less than a min, i just asking the same question! moaning on here wont do anything, feedback might
also note they have changed the website now, but they have not changed the iOS5 spash screen :
(•          AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S
              •          Multitasking Gestures for iPad
              ◦          Use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen
              ◦          Swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar
              ◦          Swipe left or right to switch between apps)
clearly they were planning on releasing this update to us, otherwise on the spalsh screen it would have stated ipad 2 only, note in the sentence above it states it CLEARLY makes a reference to ipad 2 for airplay, so, whatever the problem, they can fix it and they know it works!

    Hi Mikey,
Take a look at the iPad User Guide, which is linked below, and make sure you aren't accidentally using multitasking gestures when the issue occurs.
iPad User Guide For iOS 7.1 Software
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1595/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf

Reveal the multitasking display. Swipe up with four or five fingers.
Switch apps. Swipe left or right with four or five fingers.

  • How to stop the rotation i don't want to happenin relationship in mountain lion

how do i stop the rotation i don't want to happening relationship in mountain lion. Everytime I try and work now, the page swipe deal happens, I hate that on my Mac, and then my page all the sudden rotates and I can't figure out how to stop that from happeneing and even make it go back. Happens in photoshop, indesign, etc. help.

nevermind. I found the answer in another place. I have now disabled the gestures. I get gestures for ipads and ipods, but not my regular work mac. Irritating. But got it now and my documnet is back to normal.

  • No lyrics in the new music app?

Very disappointed, the new music app in iOS5 hide my songs lyrics...that was one of my favorite features in the old iPod app! And now no multitouch gestures for iPad 1 user...I am very sad and disappointed.
Somebody know about a good music player app with the lyrics feature?

Well, at least they added multitasking gestures to the original iPad today (iOS 5.0.1).  Fingers crossed they'll upgrade the Music App in the near future.

  • Can't open control centre

I have a Griffin survivor cover on my iPhone 4S and have just installed iOS 7. I can't open the control centre because of the case covering the edge of the screen. It seems strange because I can open the camera from the locked screen which is the same action as to open the control centre. It's quite frustrating to find that you can't use one of the best new functions of iOS 7. Does anyone know if there is any other way to open control centre?
    Thanks in advance.

How about adding the Control Center as a feature on the AssistiveTouch icon in the Accessibility part of the settings?? This icon is designed to assist if you are having difficulty touching the screen, which seems to be the problem all of us (including myself) are having. Otherwise preloading some multitouch gestures would be the super clean and professional way about solving it. You guys should really have loaded iOS 7 with multitouch gestures for moving backwards and forwards within apps like Safari, Messages, and others like them. E.g., two-finger swipe across for back or forward while browsing, two-finger swipe up or down for Notification or Control Center. Heck, use three-finger swipes if if interferes with the zooming or something else. Just saying you guys really need to step up your multitouch gesture game. iPads and MacBook Touchpads have had them for years!!!!
