Get character of folder name preceding a character., get character of folder name preceding a character.

set theFolderName to "Macintosh HD:Users:user:Desktop:Landscapes_WK30_PSD"
set theCharacters to characters of theFolderName
using the above how can I extract the digits that preceed the _WK I know I can get the first x number of characters but that number varies so it needs to be everything before _WK

Indeed easier than i thought, assuming i haven't got the long way about it,
set folderPath to "Macintosh HD:Users:user:Desktop:Landscapes_WK30_PSD"
set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
set folderName to last text item of folderPath
set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
display dialog weekNumber

How do you get ITunes to actually uninstall or install new versions when it doesn't like the path for some completely unknow reason.  This is on a Windows7 system and by the way a lot of other programs are using this folder without any issues so it is clearly an Apple problem.

  • Install iTunes 10.4.1 install error - The Folder Path "File Name" contains an invalid character

Upgraded computer from XP Prof 32-Bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (Upgrade package, performed Custom Install).
Attempt to install iTunes 10.4.1 for 64-Bit.  Receiving the following error/problem:
The Folder Path "File Name on my external drive" contains an invalid character
I click ok and then get this:
The Installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.  Errors occurred during installation.  Your system could not be modified,  Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit.
    Any fixes for this?

Sorry, one of us is not managing to be clear enough.
Does the message read The Folder Path "File Name on my external drive" contains an invalid character or perhaps The Folder Path "<some path name here>" contains an invalid character?
If so, then the problem might be just what it says it is with the path name in question... Either way if you list the path given in the error message in a reply to this thread it might provide a clue for anyone tying to help with the problem.
You could try downloading the installer to C:\iTunesSetup.exe in case that helps.

  • Strange character at the end of some file/folder names

I'm getting a strange character at the end of some of my file and folder names. This is it:  When I enlarge it, it says "private use" on the top and bottom, "E000" on the left side, and "F8FF" on the right side. It acts like a character within the font, but I'm not sure why it's there.
In case that didn't work, I'm going to try to attach or embed a gif of the character. I'm not sure if it will work or not.
Also, some longer file names seem to be dleeting some of the letters and are inserting a pound sign and a few numbers (e.g. #34) in place of the letters.
    What's going on?
    As usual, thanks in advance,
    Lloyd

I thought that might be it...at first. Then I found some file names that were nowhere near 32 characters long whose names were truncated.
It's not a huge problem, except in QuarkXPress when I collect the files for output and I have to reconnect to the ones whose names have been changed (to protect the innocent, I suppose).
    Thanks for the input mark.

trying to remove an old version of I tunes, but keep getting the message 'The folder path I Tunes contains an invalid character'
It won't let me go any further, have tried deleting/repairing but get the same message and am blocked from continuing?

    Hi Barbara,
I had a similar problem recently and using the "more like this" feature I discovered an answer. To a problem posed by Holo7,  who like myself was a newbie on this platform,  b noir proposed a solution to Holo7's problem that also worked with my problem. It involves downloading a version of MS Windows Instal Cleanup and using it to completely remove all traces of the old version.
If you look at my problem (follow OldGit66) and the link to Holo7's problem then you will find b noir's answer which I think may help you. I am new around here so you might want to wait for one of the higher status correspondents.

  • When installing or uninstalling iTunes I get 'The folder path 'My Music' contains an invalid character' and fails

When installing or uninstalling iTunes I get 'The folder path 'My Music' contains an invalid character' and fails

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

OK, never mind!  I saw another question on the right side that addressed the problem, and it worked perfectly!  Went to Major Geeks' page, downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, and was able to reinstall the updated version of iTunes!  This community is super!

  • How to get the 3 character sytem name in the header of SAP window

    Hi,
I have 6.4 version of sapgui and while working with multiple SAP sessions of different systems it would be good to have the 3 character system name displayed in the header so that when the sessions have been grouped together, it is enough to just get a list of all the open sessions with their system name and transaction name instead of clicking on each one the sessions to find the right one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Jaya

Please take a look at [SAP Note 757964|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/no_display_pdf/sapnote.htm?numm=757964&vers=0000000000&language=E&sap-language=E].
"Sometimes you want to display additional information such as the system name, module number or client in the SAP GUI window titles."
It is a simple registry tweak which allows you to see this additional info on the taskbar of the GUI sessions.

  • Question Re: Character Limitations On Folder Name When Packaging...

So ever since I upgraded to Creative Cloud I noticed that InDesign is having trouble handling my somewhat lengthy filenames.  For example, I just created a file with 48 character spaces in the filename.  When I finished finessing the artwork I saved the INDD file, then went to package it and when the dialog box popped up asking me where I wanted to save the packaged folder, InDesign had only auto-filled in 12 of the 48-character count, deleting the other 36 characters.  Please note that this has never been a problem in the past with previous versions of InDesign.  FYI I'm rinning version 9.2 on a Mac (Mavericks).  Hoping this is just a pref. setting.  Thoughts?
Also important to note that if I re-type the remaining characters that were deleted (or navigate to the original INDD file and mouse click it so it "picks up" the correct filename) I can proceed without any issues.  I save it and it saves the full name without any errors.  But to have to fill in the missing characters every time I package a job is quite tedious, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA!

    Anyone?

  • Using "$" character with Oracle; getting "invalid column name"

I am running the following query against an Oracle database:
    select price from my_table
    where index_name = 'CGPR_C$'
    and settlement_date = to_date('02/19/2001','MM/DD/YYYY')
The query runs fine in TOAD.
If I run this query from my java code, I get an "invalid column name" exception.
If I take out the "$" character, the query runs fine.
I've tried inserting the "$" in as unicode, escaping out the character, ||chr(36)||, and nothing works.
    Please help!
    Ashley

Look up your Oracle SQL documentation and find out how to use column names that would otherwise be invalid. Some databases allow you to put column names, table names, and so on in square brackets (e.g. [CGPR_C$]) but I don't know Oracle's syntax.

  • How do I get character viewer to display the names of the radicals in Japanese, as they were until Lion

In Leopard, Character Viewer displayed the names of the radicals of Japanese characters in Japanese.
Now I have Lion, the radicals all have English names which are totally different and impossible to search phonetically. I can't find a way to choose the language of the Character Viewer. Do I have to set the whole iMac to use Japanese as its basic language? That would be a pain for everything else.
    Thanks for looking.

If you put Japanese at the top of the Langauge tab list, but do not logout/login, then only newly opened apps will appear in Japanese.  That way you can get only Character Viewer in Japanese.   Maybe this will also work
    http://www.tj-hd.co.uk/en-gb/languageswitcher/
Another approach would be to open the Character Viewer app and modify its .lproj folders.
If you still have a copy of Leopard, you may be able to transplant its Character Viewer app to Lion and use it as an independent app.

  • Odd character in shared folder name

    Hi all,
i have a USB HD connected to my airport extreme.  I havent seen this before, but i just created a new folder on that shared drive.  When i view the contents of that drive in finder, the name of that particular folder has what appears to be a square with a X in it.  Does anyone know what this characher is?
    thanks

That is an illegal character as is the reverse slash. Stick with underscores and alpha-numerics for filenames.
