Get children by tag name?

Dear all,
During some XML processing using DOM I have a problem with the method "getElementsByTagName()". This method will return a nodelist with all matching descendant elements, no matter on which level below the current element they are. However, what I need is to get only the children by tagname. Is there such a method? I could, of course use getChildNodes(), but then I'd have to cycle through the nodelist and check the name of every node. Seems a bit too clumsy.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Cheers,
NW

With XPathAPI you can get the nodes that are a specific element below a specific target.
To find only the <rightChild> nodes of an element, you would use an XPath string of "rightChild" in the search. It will return a NodeList.

  • How to get the root tag name

    I have a problem: I receive several XML files in my transaction input
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <NAMES>
    </NAMES>
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <VALUES>
    </VALUES>
    and I want to obtain the root tag name (the string NAMES, VALUES, ecc.).
    I obtained this result using a XSL transformation, bui I think that the best (and easiest) way is to use an XPath command. I tried but I can not find the right command.
    Does anybody know how to do this?

    I found it:
    Transaction.Source{name(/*)}

  • How to get the XML TAG name itself instead of TAG value

    Hi All,
    I have a question here
    I want to retrieve the XML tag from a XML file instead of its value.
    Example:
    <item>Colgate</item>
    Now I want to retrieve "item" as output from XPath expression, I dont want its value as "colgate"
    How to do that...?
    Thanks
    -Praveen

    You can do this with an axes XPatch expression:
    child::node()/name()

  • How to get the tag name of HTMLDocument?

    I am now using JEditorPane to display and edit a html file.
    My code is like this:
    kit = new HTMLEditorKit();
    doc = (HTMLDocument) (kit.createDefaultDocument());
    editor.setEditorKit(kit);
    editor.setDocument(doc);
    editor.setContentType("text/html; charset=utf-8");
    editor.getDocument();
    [editor is the class JEditorPane,  doc is HTMLDocument,  kit is HTMLEditorKit]
    When a user clicks on the pane, it's easy to me to get the caret position. However, how can I get the tag?
    For example,
    <p><font class="book">I am a boy.</font> Hello! </p>
    On the pane, the position between "I am a boy" is clicked, I want to get the name of the tag - "font". Moreover, how can I get the class - "book" also?
    Moreover, can I get the <p> tag also?
    Many Thanks!
    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,
    is it possible to get the EditorKit from the EditorPane and then get the ViewFactory for the editor kit.
    Since u have the some tags of the elements hardcoded in the HTMLEditorKit.HTMLFactory it will be handy i guess.
    Let me know whether it helped or not so that either same method be approached or some other has to be tried.
    Cheers,
    Nagaraj

  • How to get the tag name into javascript

    Hi,
    Is there any way to get the tag name into java script when user clicks on.
    For eg: if i use netui:anchor tag, how can I pass the tag id to the javascript when user clicks on the link using onClick attribute. This tag id needs to be evaluated at run time.
    Ex code is given below.
    function fun1(){
    // how to get the tag name;
    <%
    String st="hai";
    %>
    <netui:anchor action="x" onClick="fun1()" tagId="<%=st%>>
    I want to get this tagId (st) to the java script function fun1() when user clicks on this link. How can I do that. can you please help in this issue.
    Thanks,
    Satish.

    Hi,
    You can set the java variable as a js variable at run time:
    <script>
    var anchorName = <%=getNetuiTagName%>;
    function fun1()
    var anchorID = getNetuiTagName(anchorName);
    alert(anchorID);// this will show the rendered ID for the anchor specified
    </script>
    this works because the jsp variable will be rendered before the js.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • When I start Firefox, I get this alert message "[JavaScript Application] XML tag name mismatch (expected META)". What is this message?

    My firefox updated today automatically, and then when it started up, it displayed this alert message:
    "[JavaScript Application] XML tag name mismatch (expected META)"
    I can press OK and my browser then works just fine and I can go to websites and what-not. I have not run across any problems or anything. I am just wondering what this alert message means and if I should fix it?
    I tried closing the browser and pulling it back up, and the same message was displayed. Also, if I open a new window the same message is displayed. But it is only displayed right when I open the browser, and does not show up anytime while using the browser.

    If you click the Home button from another page, does the error repeat? If so, what is your home page?
    When Firefox starts, it fires up a lot of add-ons. A standard diagnostic for add-on issues is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
    Do you still get the message? If not, one of your add-ons might not be fully compatible with Firefox 14 or might need an update.

  • How to get xml tag name?

    Hi all

    InterfacePtr<IXMLReferenceData> xmlRefData(Utils<IXMLUtils>()->QueryXMLReferenceData(textModel));
    and I get only the document's root element name.
    Any suggessions please.

    Hello Dirk
    I've looked there. But I dont understand which one one will satisfy my need. There are "QueryDocElement" and "QueryRootElement" and their definitions say that it will return root element of doc/database.
    please i need ur suggessions further.

  • Urgent !please help!! how to get children component in encodeBegin()?

    hello all
    how can get children component in encodeBegin()?because when encodebegin the tree is not constituted so i can't get children component,how to solve?
    please help!

    You aren't providing enough information to know for sure what is going on, but a likely problem is that you're rendering a JSP page with a new component tree for the first time, so the components are getting built as the page executes.
    In the EA3 release, this caused a problem, because encodeBegin() was called from the doStartTag() method of the JSP tag (i.e. before the child components have been created). However, in EA4 the call to encodeBegin() was moved to doEndTag(), so the child components should now be getting created already.
    In order to debug this any further, we'll need a specific example of what you're doing, and what version of JavaServer Faces you're trying it with.

  • Generate XML with tag names generated dynamically.

    Hi Mark,
    I want to generate xml in the following way using SQLXoperators.
    But only problem is when i use the operator, the tag name should be supplied before in hand as parameter.
    So it works well when the data for the tags are stored in seperate columns then its pretty simple.
    But lets say the whole hierarchy of the nodes is stored in one table with ID-->PARENTID relationship and the text is stored in a column called description.
    Now using CONNECT BY PRIOR i get the hierarchy and now based on the description value i have to generate the tags and then fill in the other details.
    This is just a summary of what i want. the below sample has much more than that and actual data comes from more than one table.
    But if i get the solution for what i asked before i think i can build the test of the thing.

    http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/05-may/o35asktom.html
    In 10g there are other SQL statements besides connect by prior for parent child relationships.
    such as:
    CONNECT_BY_ROOT—returns the root of the hierarchy for the current row; this greatly simplifies our query. (See below for an example).
    CONNECT_BY_ISLEAF—is a flag to tell you if the current row has child rows.
    CONNECT_BY_ISCYCLE—is a flag to tell you if the current row is the beginning of an infinite loop in your hierarchy. For example, if A is the parent of B, B is the parent of C, and C is the parent of A, you would have an infinite loop. You can use this flag to see which row or rows are the beginning of an infinite loop in your data.
    NOCYCLE—lets the CONNECT BY query recognize that an infinite loop is occurring and stop without error (instead of returning a CONNECT BY loop error).

  • Lower case tag names in XSQL query

    XSQL queries appear to default all column tag names to upper case, even when you specifically use lower case characters. Is there any way to get them into lower case?
    For example,
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <test connection="devel" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:query rowset-element="" row-element="" null-indicator="yes">
    select 'hello' as hi from dual
    </xsql:query>
    </test>
    Results in,
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <test>
    <HI>hello</HI>
    </test>
    I would really like to get <HI> to <hi>...
    thanks.

    You can also preserve case by putting quotes around the column alias:
    For example,
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <test connection="devel" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    <xsql:query rowset-element="" row-element="" null-indicator="yes">
    select 'hello' as "hi"
    , 'Hello' as "Hi"
    , 'HELLO' as "HI"
    from dual
    </xsql:query>
    </test>
    This way you can also get mixed case.

  • Ellipses in tags names breaks my tags

    The new tags sacreens don't show the ful tag any more!
    This means I can't cut-n-paste the ful names but only the ellisped version.
    This change breaks my tree of knowlge and tagging tool.
    The names of the tags where not broken before the update and are broken now.
    I want them fixed.
    Yes I know "Its the lead sled dog that runs into the tree!" but in this case i have bloddied my nose, fractured my cheek bones and there is a tree shaped notch in the front of my skull.
    I CAN USE MY TAGGING TOOL UNTIL THIS IS FIXED.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    An alternative that could meet OUR needs and make it easier on Lithium.
    Lithium can leave the tag cloud screen alone and just give me a "Export tags and counts" button. Whn pressed it will let us specify the save path. The output file should be tab delimitted with a collumn for the tag and another collumn for the counts.
    That change will reduce the fix work for Lithium.
    I can mod my code to read from the file instead of from the cut-n-paste.
    I don't know what to code looks like for the forums but adding a button to spit out a file that does NOT have to under go an astetics commity has to be easier than undoing the work that went into buggering up the tag names.
    And before you ask...
    While tagging I get a new set of tag exports (well I used too) possibly multiple times while doing the cross linking to enusre I can find the same info using multiple search paths, so it has to be an option that I can invoke while tagging.
    So being the type I am I have to let you know about the next best version of the above.
    For all of the tags that have a count above "1" there are mutliple URL's associated with that tag. If I could get the export file to list;
    1) Tag
    2) URL associated with the tag.
    So if I looked at the spreadsheet export for the tag "LabVIEW" I would find it list 300 times in collumn 1 and the unique URLs in collumn 2.
    This "enhancement" would let me move the Tagging tool to the next level where the tags can be explored via a spider-web not possible with my existing information.
    SO;
    Minimum required to fix the tagging tool
    1) Full tag names
    2) Tag counts
    If I get that from the screen getting fixed or a file export, I can adapt.
    Under the heading of "Never let an emergency go to waste"...
    Let us export tags with URLs
    Bonus for NI
    1) If you give me the data, I'll enhace the code to use it.
    2) Once enhanced the CPU required to explore the tag linkages will be on the user machine.
    3) All of the substance organized under the tags are still NI content and gives users yet another way to get the most out of NIs web-site.
    But for the time being...
    Until the names are restored to their full text, the cross linking will be at best hit or miss and I am flying blind.

    Is this the right way to parse this type of XML?

    The answer would depend upon your version of Oracle
    select * from v$version
    and the desired result set you want to see.
    If you are 10.2 or later, than XMLTable would be easier to write, but I won't go that way until we know more about what you want to see.
