Get first occurance of records in a group

Hello,
I have a query that I'm trying to get the first occurance of each item grouping when an item changes.  However, the is grouping all similar items together. For example;
Select LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, recvDate,
ROW_NUMBER() over (partition by item order by LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, recvDate) as roworder
The query returns something like:
LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, recvDate, Roworder
1                         1                 123
01/6/14 16:38:00        3
1                         1                 123
01/04/14 05:35:15      2
1                         1                 456   01/03/14
07:18:23       1
1                         1                 123
01/01/14 08:25:15      1
When I grab all the row_numbers  = 1 this will give me 2 records (should be 3).
The query needs have the row_number start over whenever an item changes.  In this case there should be 3 records returned.  How would I do this? for example:
LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, recvDate, Roworder
1                         1                 123
01/6/14 16:38:00      2
1                         1                 123
01/04/14 05:35:15       1
1                         1                 456
01/03/14 07:18:23       1
1                         1                 123
01/01/14 08:25:15       1
Thanks in advance!

This is a "gaps and islands" problem.  You can google that term for lots of good info about this type of problem and how to solve them.  One way for your problem would be:
Declare @SampleTable Table (LocationNumber int, ShelfNumber int, item int, recvDate datetime);
Insert @SampleTable(LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, recvDate) Values
(1, 1, 123, '01/6/14 16:38:00'),
(1, 1, 123, '01/04/14 05:35:15'),
(1, 1, 456, '01/03/14 07:18:23'),
(1, 1, 123, '01/01/14 08:25:15');
;With cte As
(Select LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, recvDate,
Row_Number() Over (Partition By LocationNumber, ShelfNumber Order By recvDate)
- Row_Number() Over (Partition By LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item Order By recvDate) As Island
From @SampleTable)
Select LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, Min(recvDate) As recvDate
From cte
Group By LocationNumber, ShelfNumber, item, Island;

  • Getting first and last records of sql using a analytical function query

    hi all!
    Thanks in advance for looking at my problem! I have a query that runs against a table that keep all records
    of changes on another table (journal table kind of thing). I wrote a sql that would tell what the status of that
    requisition was, what came next and its respective dates. However, that would bring a lot of rows. I only need
    to see the first row and last couple say 3 last rows. How could I achieve that?

  • Getting first and last records of a query(on a table)

    Hello,
    i want to display the first and the last serial number(table: OBJK ) against a particulat matnr and obknr.
    how do i display only the first and only the last record of my query ?
    hope i am  comprehendedable..
    Thanks..
    Shehryar

    SELECT  min(sernr) max(sernr) into lfirst llast
    from objk
    where matnr = pmatnr
    and obknr = pobknr.
    ---Lets say you already have the data in the internal table in that case..
    SORT itab by SERNR.
    read table itab index 1.
    lfirst = itab-sernr.
    sort itab by sernr descending.
    read table itab index 1.
    llast = itab-sernr.

  • First Occurance

    Hello all,
    I am using Crystal Reports 9 and have a report that accepts two parms Begin and End Number and returns the rows of data within that range.
    However, in the report the customer now wants to return only the first occurance of a field in the dataset and the last occurance.
    For example I have four records that are returned in a range for a particular key that is grouped.  Lets say 20071201, 20080301, 20080302, 20080303.
    the type in Range was 20071201 and 20080308
    Of the range, there is no value for the first key but a value for each of the last three. So, Null 10, 20, 30. Right now the formula which I have to use, is returning 0 and 40. It needs to return 10 and 30. I used this if {?Begin Folio Number} = {METER_HISTORY.FOLIO_NUMBER} THEN       x := {METER_HISTORY.BOD_GROSS_TOTALIZER} for my begin number field formula. I'll need to do the end also for the last occurance in the range.
    Any help is most appriected.

    So does that mean that you only want to show the first and last records of each grouped key?Ensure records within the group are ordered and print in the group header & footer instead of the details.You'll just need to ensure you don't print one record twice if there's only one in the group, e.g. suppress footer if count(field,group) = 1

  • Want to get sum/avg first 90% records  in each grouped record set.

    Hi Gurus,
    Need your help or example query which help me to achieve sum/avg first 90% records in each grouped record set. Let me show you the basic query and output and proposed output.
    select Pid, Sum(SalesAmt) TotalSaleAmt, Avg(SalesAmt) AvgSaleAmt, count(*) NoOfSales from ProductSales group by Pid;
    PID TotalSaleAmt AvgSaleAmt NoOfSales
    1 12000 100 120
    2 24000 50 480
    Now I need for PID =1 TotalSaleAmt of first 90% of NoOfSale i.e.120(this is basically nuber of rows found in PrdocutSales Table).
    I hope I am clear enough explain my requirement... I would appreciate if we have some Analytical function available..

    first 90% should mean first 90% by some order, so in this case, which 108 rows (of the 120) do you want to take into consideration?

  • Select first and last records in grouped results - Oracle 11g

    Say I have the following information in an Oracle 11g table:
    Qty
    Production order
    Date and time
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:05
    20
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:07
    20
    00000000000000001
    13-JAN-14 00:09
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:11
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:15
    30
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:20
    30
    00000000000000002
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    I would like to write a query that would return the following:
    Qty
    Production order
    First
    Last
    80
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    13-JAN-14 00:09
    120
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:11
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    That is, the sum of the Qty column grouped by Production order, and the date/time of the first and last records for each Production order.
    I came up with a query that yielded this result:
    Qty
    Production order
    First
    Last
    80
    00000000000000001
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    120
    00000000000000002
    12-JAN-14 00:02
    14-JAN-14 00:29
    Which means that the First and Last columns show the overall first and last date / time of the whole table. Please note that this is a dummy table. Sorry I am now allowed to write the actual query
    I came up with since work policies do not allow me to share it. Also, I tried with windowing functions such as rank()and row_number() but my user does not have enough privileges to do so.
    Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated.

    Due to the fact that Oracle does not record the rows in any particular order, it would be wrong that the "first date" would be the first row processed by the query.
    Therefore you would have to supply some other column if you do not want to consider the table as ordered by date.
    Also, any analytical functions will need you to supply the "order by" and if its the date, then just a simple query will do:
    SQL>WITH Tab1 (Qty, Production_Order, Pdate)
      2       AS (SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:02', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      3           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:05', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      4           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '12-JAN-14 00:07', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL
      5           SELECT 20, '00000000000000001', TO_DATE ( '13-JAN-14 00:09', 'DD-MON-YY HH24:MI') FROM DUAL UNION ALL

    i want ot get first 10 records from the database and then after clicking the next button in the page,it must show the next precceding 10 records from the database.i am getting the first 10 records .but how to post to the same page to get another preceeding 10 record.

  • How to get the value of a variable in group footer in the report footer also

    I have a placed a formula as below at the group footer and the report footer. The data is grouped on the basis of duedays which is again formula and the value in that is appearing correctly.
    Whilereadingrecords;
    Global Numbervar CNTONE;
    Numbervar P := P+1;
    IF P = 1 AND {@DUEDAYS} = 0
    THEN CNTONE := {spSUPPLIERSOA;1.INVOICEBAL}
    ELSE IF P>1 AND  {@DUEDAYS} = 0
    THEN CNTONE := CNTONE + {spSUPPLIERSOA;1.INVOICEBAL}
    At the group footer I get the value correctly for CNTONE but when I place the formula in Report footer I get the value for CNTONE as 0.
    Please do let me know how I could get the same value in the report footer also.
    Regards
    Sreejith J

    Hi Abhilash;
    When I give the statement whileprintingrecords then my above formula sums up only the first record and the last record of the group and when I give whilereadingrecords it adds up all the data in the group correctly.
    The formula that you mentioned for the report footer had worked out and it is showing my result correctly.
    I did not put up the reset formula on the group footer because as the group changes I had used another variable in another formula for example for the second group I used
    Whilereadingrecords;
    Global Numbervar CNTTWO;
    Numbervar Q := Q+1;
    IF Q = 1 AND {@DUEDAYS} = 30
    THEN CNTTWO := {spSUPPLIERSOA;1.INVOICEBAL}
    ELSE IF Q>1 AND  {@DUEDAYS} = 30
    THEN CNTTWO := CNTTWO + {spSUPPLIERSOA;1.INVOICEBAL}
    I have set up total 5 such formulas as the number of groups that will be formed is 5. I have put up these formulas on the group footer and suppressed it as I dont want to get it displayed.
    The as you suggested the solution for Report Footer I did that and getting the result correctly.
    I dont know I may be following a longer procedure

  • To get the count of records and able to access the column value in a single

    Hi
    Is there any way to get the number of records in the query and access the column values
    e.g
    select count(*)
    from
    (SELECT department, COUNT(*) as "Number of employees"
    FROM employees
    WHERE salary > 25000
    GROUP BY department ) a
    This wil only get the Count, if i want to access each row from the inline view how can i do that.

    Your question is not clear.
    Are you looking for total record count as well as count by department ?
    Something like this?
    SQL>
    SQL> with temp as
      2  (
      3  select 1 dept ,10000 sal from dual union
      4  select 1 dept ,25100 sal from dual union

      6  select 1 dept ,40000 sal from dual union
      7  select 2 dept ,10000 sal from dual union
      8  select 2 dept ,25100 sal from dual union
      9  select 2 dept ,30000 sal from dual union
    10  select 2 dept ,40000 sal from dual )
    11  select count(*) over( partition by 1 ) total_count,dept,
    12  count(*) over(partition by dept) dept_cnt  from temp
    13  where sal>25000;

  • How can I get the last / newest record of a table?

    Hi,
    I am developing an ecard app that has a create greeting page, a preview page with edit and send buttons and an edit page.
    I got he insert working, and on the preview page I created a master record page (displays all records), and delete all unecessary designs. Doing it this way also gives me the 'edit' button, so people are able to edit their page.
    How do I get only the last record displayed though? At the moment it loops through all records and displays them in sets of 10. I found the variable that holds the totla count of records ('$totalRows_rs7417_content1'), but how do I (re-)write the script so it ONLY diplays the last record?
    I need to get the ID of this record as I am writing this into the PARAMs of the object and embed tags of my message .swf (this picks up the ID and based on that sucks the greetings text out of the database via another php script.
    Also, from this page, how can I send an email to the sender (ie creator of the message) as well as the recipient? Both email addresses are in the databse so should be part of the erecord returned.
    Thanks,
    Nik

    OK, So how do I recreate what I got in a non-ADDT list?
    well, when you´re just about to display one certain record, the term "list" is somewhat inappropriate anyway.
    What you´d simply need to do IMHO, is using DW´s native functions to create the basic "SELECT * FROM table_name ORDEr BY ID DESC" query, add "LIMIT 1" manually, and display the desired "dynamic text" placeholders in 1 table cell -- don´t think there were any need for all the fancy stuff
    (sorting, filtering etc) provided by ADDT´s list, as it´s just 1 record.
    It also occurred to me just now that finding the last record that has been added *may-* notbe enough if the site gets used a lot by our executives (I am thinking of a situation where 2 or three peolpe create greetings at the same time and press submit and then getting each others messges rather than their own).
    in this case you might want to additionally store the respective executive´s "kt_login_id" session variable -- because it´s this unique "identifier" which should be used to show the last inserted record of the person who actually inserted it, means adding a "WHERE submitter_id" equals the session variable kt_login_id - clause to the query.
    When creating a non-ADDT list that´s at some point based on detecting a user session, you´ll BTW need to insert at line 1
    I can't seemt o insert it on the page as it is looking for a insert, update or delete bahaviour on the page which of course I don't have
    please search these forums for several posts I made which explain my "use dummy table" approach that´s made for cases when you actually don´t have anything to insert/update/delete, but need "something" for ADDT´s send email behaviours.

  • Is there a way to get a user login record after sleep?

    I know that by opening terminal and typing in "last" (without the quote marks) that it will give me about a 3 week record of who has logged on my computer after shutdowns and restarts.
    What I want to know is this:
    a) Is there a way to get a user login record after the computer only goes to sleep?
    b) is there a way to get the terminal to go back further than just 3 weeks or so for the shutdown/restart records?
    Is there software that might do this???
    Thanks in advance, this is important for me.

    bikinijack wrote:
    Thanks, Dave: so this is what I type in the terminal? "ls -l /var/log/wtmp*" (without the quotes). And how do you unzip something that has been "gzipped"?
    "man gzip" will give you the details for using gzip
    My first question can be explained this way: To get into the computer when it is coming out of sleep you need to type in a password, then it opens to the desktop. Is there a way I can find out the times over the course of a day/week/month that this is being done? i.e., is there a log being made somewhere of when the computer is being opened and signed onto after being asleep?
    When you wake the computer from a sleep, you are not logging in again so there will be
    no record of the event as a "login"
    My computer possibly could be used by a few other people that have access to my computer password (don't ask why) and I basically want to know if they are signing on when I am away from my desk.
    You may want to look at /var/log/asl.log or /var/log/secure.log which contain details of
    authentication attempts (which is what you are doing) and failures.
    I am not asking why you have multiple people accessing your computer with your password --
    but consider setting up separate username, it is a lot easier to manage and you will probably
    not be asking questions like this one.

  • Info Records Per Material Group Standard Report Not Running at All.

    Hi Experts,
    We had a Small problem Where while Running Info Records Per Material Group(T-code ME1W ) Standard Report the Report is not Showing any output in PRD, where else running Info Records Per Material (T-Code ME1M ) Standard Report the Output is getting Displayed.
    Our System is Currently SAP EEC 6.0 & Application Package SAP_APPL is of release 604     & Level 0007, Highest Support Package is SAPKH60407.
    is this Issue covered in Some OSS Note?
    Thanks & Regards
    Priyesh Shah

    Hi,
    The info-records for the materials which appears in the standard report ME1M/ME1L is different from the one which appear in ME1W.
    If you try with the material groups of the ME1L or ME1M info-records it wont be displayed in ME1W.
    ME1W will display only the info-records which are created @ material group level.
    i.e. try to create a new info-record using ME11 without entering material, in the general data screen you have to enter the material group & other parameters.
    Now once you save this info-record,same will appear in ME1W.
    Hope its clear.

  • 7.01 to 7.3 Upgrade - Logon Screen - "Logon Problems? Get Support" occuring

    Hi
    We have upgrade our ABAP and JAVA stacks from NW 7.01 to NW 7.3.
    After the upgrade is the "Logon Problems? Get Support" occuring on our portals logon screen. In 7.01 this was controlled with the parameter ume.logon.logon_help - however after the upgrade we do not see this parameter anymore.

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/c26d20b/n/Portal_Logon_Page_Issue.jpg
    Any idea about how we remove the "Logon Problems? Get Support" part?
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Torben

    Hi Torben,
    On my fresh 7.3 installation, everything is clean and ... fresh ...
    So, for example, the built in group AnonUsers only has the user Guest as it's solely relation (no parent, no child groups); the guest user has the Guest role, which has (via it's groups) roles Everyone and Guest; onbly the role Everyone as got UME actions.
    All together, this sounds much like an upgrade issue (on my fresh 7.3, there is no group "J2EE_GUEST" at all).
    Two possibilities to go:
    - Open an OSS message (should be done in any case probably, to report this issue to SAP, so that this can be fixed);
    - Check the UME consistenty by yourself (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/44/aecb4253217037e10000000a422035/frameset.htm)
    Maybe the second point already will fix some things; would be great for you, anyhow, I still would advise to report this issue officially to SAP.
    Hope it helps
