Getting access to 10.4.11 mailboxes in 10.7 Mail

Yesterday I migrated a user from a 10.4.11 machine to a 10.7 Lion machine.  When I launched mail, it only brought over the contents of her Inbox -- I had to put the accounts in again, and all of her mailboxes that she had stuff sorted into, and her Drafts, deleted messages, preferences, etc. did not get transferred over.
I can see the mail in her Library/Mail directory in the backup I made of her account before I started the migration.  Her saved mailboxes are in her Mail/Mailboxes directory with names like:
    Mail/Mailboxes/something.mbox/Messages/5-digit-#.emlx
while her old inbox, drafts, sent, etc are in a directory like:
    Mail/POP-user@hostname/something.mbox/Messages/5-digit-#.emlx
How can I get this mail loaded up into Lion (aka V2) mail?

To reply to my own question...  The trick here is that there was a mail upgrade between 10.5 and 10.6 and another one between 10.6 and 10.7.  My situation is a little different because I am working with Mobile accounts, but here's what I did...
Logged out of the user on the 10.7 machine and the 10.4 machine
Logged into a local Administrator account on the 10.4 machine
Used Terminal, with sudo su to be logged in as root.
used mv to get the Library/Mail/V2 directory out of Library/Mail
used used tar-through-a-pipe to get the contents of Library/Mail from my backup back in to the user's directory
used chown -R user:group on Library/Mail to fix the file ownerships
logged out of the Administrator account and logged into the user's mobile account on the 10.4 machine, this synch'd the file changes I made on the server.  Logged out of the 10.4 machine.
logged the user into a 10.6 laptop and synch'd the account on it, then launched mail.  This took the mail through the 10.5-to-10.6 upgrade.
Then logged out of the 10.6 laptop, which synch'd the mail back to the server in that state
Then returned to the 10.7 machine and logged the user in, this time the synch brought over mail that had been upgraded to 10.6 and then launching mail got that upgraded to 10.7, with a new V2 directory created.
I took away a couple of morals to the story...
If you want to use Mobile (home-synch'd) accounts simultaneously on computers with different operating systems, Mail is going to be your turd in the punchbowl.
If you are simply upgrading from one computer to another and never need to go backwards, there are two mail upgrades in getting from 10.4 to 10.7, so you will need a 10.6 machine to get the mailboxes updated out of 10.4 format to a format where 10.7 can update it.  (I know you can go directly from 10.4 mail to 10.6 mail, I just did it.  I know you can go from 10.6 mail to 10.8 mail, because we've done that before, too.  I presume we can get from 10.6 mail all the way to 10.9 mail, or all of those people running 10.6 who are having the "free" Mavericks update dangled in front of them are in for a pretty rude shock when it throws away years of accumulated email...)

  • How do I get my (30+) OSX archived Apple Mailboxes and old emails to appear on my iPhone?

    How do I get my (30+) OSX archived Apple Mailboxes to appear on my iPhone? I am happy to use any combination of Thunderbird and Apples so that I can sort and archive incoming emails into existing folder (names), and access old emails (1,000s of them) that are only on my iMac now.

    First off Thunderbird does not have a version for iPhone so you need to ask the Apple genius how to work your phone. Secondly most mobile devices will not have enough storage for thousands of messages.
    Your best solution is to setup IMAP email accounts. IMAP was developed just for this use. The messages are stored on the email providers server and you access and manage them from your computer and mobile devices.

  • [office365 Exchange online][MVC5][EWS Managed Api] Need a hack to get access token ?

    Hi there, I am using following code example to get access token from Azure AD online. I need to bridge EWS managed api with office 365 Api via Azure AD. The below code is working just fine in my MVC application but I am looking for a way to get the access
    token in simple string returning  function so that I can use it to make call against EWS mananged api.
    private static string tempToken = "";
    public static string GetAccessToken()
    return tempToken;
    internal static async Task<OutlookServicesClient> EnsureOutlookServicesClientCreatedAsync(string capabilityName)
    var signInUserId = ClaimsPrincipal.Current.FindFirst(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier).Value;
    var userObjectId = ClaimsPrincipal.Current.FindFirst("http://schemas.microsoft.com/identity/claims/objectidentifier").Value;
    AuthenticationContext authContext = new AuthenticationContext(Settings.Authority, new NaiveSessionCache(signInUserId));
    try
    DiscoveryClient discClient = new DiscoveryClient(Settings.DiscoveryServiceEndpointUri,
    async () =>
    var authResult = await authContext.AcquireTokenSilentAsync(Settings.DiscoveryServiceResourceId,
    new ClientCredential(Settings.ClientId,
    Settings.AppKey),
    new UserIdentifier(userObjectId,
    UserIdentifierType.UniqueId));
    return authResult.AccessToken;
    var dcr = await discClient.DiscoverCapabilityAsync(capabilityName);
    return new OutlookServicesClient(dcr.ServiceEndpointUri,
    async () =>
    var authResult = await authContext.AcquireTokenSilentAsync(dcr.ServiceResourceId,
    new ClientCredential(Settings.ClientId,
    Settings.AppKey),
    new UserIdentifier(userObjectId,
    UserIdentifierType.UniqueId));
    return authResult.AccessToken;
    catch (AdalException exception)
    //Handle token acquisition failure
    if (exception.ErrorCode == AdalError.FailedToAcquireTokenSilently)
    authContext.TokenCache.Clear();
    return null;
    This is an excerpt from Microsoft single tenant application in MVC5.  In the code, I have created a function called GetAccessToken() which does nothing.. I am hoping you experts can help me figure out how to transfer the accessToken from EnsureOutlookServcesClientCreated
    function which is actually returning token, to  my GetAccessToken() so that I can make call against EWS managed Api. Sorry, If I sound pretty stupid but I really need your help in this regard.
    best regards,

    Yes sir, Let me try to explain me about my scenario. I need to use EWS managed Api with office 365 Rest Api to get benefits from both the Apis. Here is here code I am using to connect to EWS managed Api but it is failing with 401:Unauthorized.  I already
    have "Full Access" turned on in Azure AD.  I have the access token from AZure AD and want to use it to make call against EWS managed Api.
    var outlookClient = await AuthHelper.EnsureOutlookServicesClientCreatedAsync("Mail");
    //IPagedCollection<IMessage> messagesResults = await outlookClient.Me.Messages.ExecuteAsync();
    // Get the ID of the first message.
    // string messageId = messagesResults.CurrentPage[0].Id;
    string tokenx = AuthHelper.GetAccessToken();
    ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2013);
    service.HttpHeaders.Add("Authorization", "Bearer " + tokenx);
    service.PreAuthenticate = true;
    service.SendClientLatencies = true;
    service.EnableScpLookup = false;
    service.Url = new Uri("https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx");
    // Get all the folders in the message's root folder.
    ExFolder rootfolder = ExFolder.Bind(service, WellKnownFolderName.MsgFolderRoot);S
    Scenario of my migration application:
    1. I have a Gmail mailbox email in Raw(complete email in base64-urlsafe with attachments) format with RFC2822. I need to migrate this mailbox to Exchange online. I believe EWS managed Api has better support on this one.
    2.  Likewise I need to migrate Gmail Calendars, Tasks and Contacts to Exchange online.
    I would be highly grateful to you , if you tell me how to bridge EWS managed Api with office 365 Api.
    best regards,

  • How to get access to the local file system when running with Web Start

    I'm trying to create a JavaFX app that reads and writes image files to the local file system. Unfortunately, when I run it using the JNLP file that NetBeans generates, I get access permission errors when I try to create an Image object from a .png file.
    Is there any way to make this work in Netbeans? I assume I need to sign the jar or something? I tried turning "Enable Web Start" on in the application settings, and "self-sign by generated key", but that made it so the app wouldn't launch at all using the JNLP file.

    Same as usual as with any other web start app : sign the app or modify the policies of the local JRE. Better sign the app with a temp certificate.
    As for the 2nd error (signed app does not launch), I have no idea as I haven't tried using JWS with FX 2.0 yet. Try to activate console and loggin in Java's control panel options (in W7, JWS logs are in c:\users\<userid>\appdata\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\log) and see if anything appear here.
    Anyway JWS errors are notoriously not easy to figure out and the whole technology in itself is temperamental. Find the tool named JaNeLA on the web it will help you analyze syntax error in your JNLP (though it is not aware of the new syntax introduced for FX 2.0 and may produce lots of errors on those) and head to the JWS forum (Java Web Start & JNLP Andrew Thompson who dwells over there is the author of JaNeLA).

  • Getting access to task manager info

    I'm trying to find out how I can tell if a particular exe is running on a native environment. Ideally get access to the sort of info you find in the Windows task manager. Basically I'm trying to stop a java application from running if something like Microsoft NetMeeting is also running (which could be used to redirect / capture the screen output).
    Whilst your all thinking away, I'm also looking to trying to find out how to disable the print screen button from with Java. Now whilst the Java window is active thats easy, but, soon as its lost focus you can print screen from native application. Any ideas, I think its impossible from java, but maybe by calling a native dll it should be possible?

    If u use Java under Win32 OS, u can do this with the WMI Windows management Interface. A WMI SDK is available at Microsoft site.
    Hope this help,

  • How can I get access to my Macintosh HD

    Hi!
    I tried to boot my Macbook, but it went straight to OS X Utilities. Now, i could not repair the disk called "disk0s2", and my Macintosh HD is not showing up on the left panel. I tried to reinstall the OS but the only HD that appeard were the Recovery HD.
    I then bought an external hard drive and installed the OS on it, from which I am able to boot now.
    Is there a way to get access to my photos on the Macintosh HD (which is missing, sort of) before i try to fix the hard drive by formating it?
    I am not very good at computers and I really need some advice..

    Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • I have two gmail accounts and firefox made me choose one and locked me out of the other. i can't get access to the other and i need it. how to i undo what firefox did?

    For the first time Firefox made me choose between my two gmail accounts: lbalisle @gmail.com and [email protected] I was in Vovision so i checked that and now I can't get into my [email protected] account.
    This is taking a lot of time to deal with when I don't have it. I have emails at [email protected] i need to get to. Please help! Linda Balisle

    You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

  • Can my wife use her iPad to get access to my music via iTunes Match and still retain her iTunes store user id?

    my wife has a new iPad and iPad Store user ID.  I have a seperate iTunes store user id and subscribe to iTunes Match.  All my music is now in the "cloud".  Can my wife get access to my music via match and still retain her iTunes store user id?
    The only way I seem to be able to get Match to work on her iPad is if she uses both my iCloud user ID and my iStore user ID.

    Essentially I have the same problem.  My spouse and I have a shared music collection on 1 computer.  We've used different id's for our various devices for years.  Currently we both use iPad minis iPhones and AppleTV.  I have iTunes Match on my account.  Recently we haven't been able to access songs bought or downloaded by the other id.  iTunes says that the computer is associated with another id.  In fact we have 1 song that didn't finish downloading when an album was bought on my spouses account while the rest of the album is there.  My suspicion is that I will need to go down to a shared id when we buy our new MacBook Pro for Boxing Day.  But, if we do that are we able to have separate calendars and passbooks and other features?  Is there another option?  I'm willing to stop using iTunes Match if necessary.

  • If I install iCloud to my pc, will I be able to get access to the skype chat history stored on the iPad app?

    So my computer with itunes broke down 5 weeks ago. I haven't backed up my ipad or synced it with a computer  since. I want to download or get access to my skype history, stored on the iPad, from my pc and don't know how to. If I backup via iCloud, will I be able to get access to my skype history from that?
    I'm afraid of installing itunes on another computer and connecting my ipad to sync as I don't want it to erase everything during the sync.
