Getting area of characters/images... Any tips?

Question

My requirement is that we need to measure the size of some texts in the document using scripts. (The document is created by using Indesign tagged text  file placed in the document.)
So we placed LS and LE tags between those and then run the script to find page wise size like this:
e.g. <LS> some img..
some text
<LE>
some other text
<LS>
some text2
<LE>
Tried using a grep to find the start and end tags. And then find difference between the baselines of LS and LE to get height.
i) But then how do i get the page in which the find is done, tried findPage() function available somewhere else in forum, but not sure it gives correctly as it outputs in reverse page order, in alert.
ii) Is there an alternative to get current page number and size of select text(not manual selection).

This sounds as the exact same problem I just have had (see my post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/529862?tstart=0 ) and I really sympathize, having lost 3 days to solve that issue... (thanking those who helped!)
If when you try to synchronize your files, LR wants to import images that are already there and create duplicate folders, that's it. To my opinion, this is due to a catalog corruption (can happen after a hang, USB failure, power cut, bad memory etc). Just guesses however.
You might have to build a new catalog if deleting the duplicates is not enough. To know what folders and images were imported last, switch to the Processing module and then you will see in the history when the image was imported. Deleting the wrong folder will make you loose your settings (happened to me...)
