Getting Current Date and using it in SQL

How do you get a current time and store it in a variable..
I am trying to make an a SQL query using it to search for all previous days appart from today.
ex:
currentDate = // store current  date as a ShortDate into a variable
query = "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE < DATES "+currentDate+" ORDER BY Id"";

Regarding prepared statement .
I am trying to insert the date into a variablelike
below.
String date = newjava.sql.Date(myDate.getTime());
I want allow me .... there really has to be a wayto
get a current System Date within java.That is because you have a lot of errors in that
line..
java.sql.Date now = new
java.sql.Date(System.currentTimeMillis());If you want it as a sql date object (date object in
sql doesn't have a time field, you need to use
Timestamp if you want date and time)
/Kajjava.sql.Date now = new java.sql.Date(new java.util.Date().getTime());

  • Getting current date and timestamp for timezone

    I am getting the current date and timestamp using
    Date d = new Date();
    On the platform I'm using it is returning it in GMT time.
    I want to convert this into Eastern Time Zone for United Status.

    java.util.Date objects contain a count of milliseconds since the "epoch", which happens to be midnight, Jan 1 1970 GMT. However, they aren't intrinsically "in" any timezone.
    If you simply call Date.toString(), you'll get the date formatted for the current locale, including timezone.
    If you want a different format, you can use the DateFormat or SimpleDateFormat classes (recommended), or use Calendar to pull the various date components out. You have to physically set the timezone for each of these.
    To get a list of timezones supported by your machine, you can run this program:
    import java.util.Arrays;
    import java.util.TimeZone;
    public class TZDump
        public static void main(String[] argv)
        throws Exception
            String[] zones = TimeZone.getAvailableIDs();
            Arrays.sort(zones);
            for (int ii = 0 ; ii < zones.length ; ii++)
                System.out.println(zones[ii]);
    }And, here's a program that lets you compare the same date in different timezones:
    import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
    import java.util.Date;
    import java.util.TimeZone;
    public class TZDemo
        public static void main(String[] argv)
        throws Exception
            SimpleDateFormat fmt = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yy HH:mm:ss");
            Date now = new Date();
            System.out.println("Default TZ = " + fmt.format(now));
            String[] zones = new String[] { "EST", "EST5EDT", "PST"};
            for (int ii = 0 ; ii < zones.length ; ii++)
                fmt.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone(zones[ii]));
                System.out.println("EST        = " + fmt.format(now));

  • Getting current date without using client's clock

    Is there a way to get the current date without using client's clock?
    The java application we developed has many windows on which the Current Date is an important display field. As it's used 24x7, we need to make sure the date is current.
    Right now, we make a CORBA service call to get the date from the server everytime the user Resets any of these windows. This is causing a peformance issue due to the slow service call.
    Is it possible to get the Date once from the server and then start a timer to derive the date thereafter. Will a change in the client's clock affect this logic ? Can we implement this without using client's system time.
    Or is there another better way ?
    Thanks for your help.

    If I can summarize your current requirements:
    1. You need to know the time.
    2. You don't trust the client's clock so you want to get the time from another computer.
    3. You want this access to be "not too slow".
    I find requirement number 2 to be peculiar, I've never seen an application that doesn't accept the time on the client system as valid. However, there it is. Maybe it's a system for checking employees in and out, and the smarter ones have been faking out the system by changing the clock. If your CORBA connection is too slow, and NTP is too slow (it takes the little program I got from USNO about 3 seconds to synchronize my clock), why not write your own time server? A simple web server that returns only the time to any request would work. If that's not fast enough then I'd suggest you're out of luck.

  • How does BR get current date, user, and associate member with Attribute Dim

    I need use Business rules or Calc script to implement following functions:
    1. Get current date and the name of user who is running the BR and save the information to cube.
    I don't find any functions to get current date and users.
    Also, since text and date is store in relational database and essbase cube only stores the index, it looks that the value can't be changed or stored by using "==" directly, is there any function to change value of members with Text or Date types in BR/Calc script?
    2. End users select attribute value (via smart list) of products or projects(Sparse dimensions) in data form, run BR to update the association of these members with attribute dimension.
    I don't find any functions to change the attribute association in BR/Calc, is there any CDF (Custom Defined Function) that can do it?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    For the date functionality, check out the post below.
    Re: Days behaviour between two dates
    As for the username, there is a little tricky way that requires an unused or a new dimension along with a smart list of user names. It's also possible to capture the user name from the cookies and pass it on to the form. The latter is possible through validatedata.js however requires hefty coding here and there.
    As for the attributes, it's not possible to update metadata through business rule. So no luck in there.
    Cheers,

  • What is the best way to captue current date and time?

    I got a field in table to capute current date and time...i am
    using SQL Server.
    field name datatype length
    enter_datetime datetime 8
    What is the best way to get current date and time and insert
    to table?.
    Is this way?.
    <cfset curtime = 'dateformat(#now()#,'mm/dd/yyyy')&"
    "&timeformat(#now()#,'hh:mm:ss')'>
    This way looks like time is not entered correctly.
    or any other better way?.

    > get current date and time and insert to table?
    You can use cfqueryparam
    <cfqueryparam value="#now()#"
    cfsqltype="cf_sql_timestamp">
    Or as was suggested, set the default for your table column to
    getdate(). Then you won't have to insert anything. Sql server will
    do it automatically when a new record is created.

    How to get current time and date from my PC time and date to the java application??

    There is a method in the System class that will return the current system time. You could also instantiate a Date, Time, Timestamp, or Calendar object, all of which get created with the system time by default.
    Don't import *. Import the specific classes you need.
    Next time, post the actual text of the exceptions/compile errors. If you make people guess, most just won't bother.

    Hi shifana,
    Do you know server's time zone? If yes, you can manually translate to the correct time zone.
    Otherwise try some online time acquire API.

  • Insert current date and time into Oracle date type field

    I have a JDBC current date and time insert into Oracle 9i that almost works. It submits the current date and a fixed time into the Oracle date type field. I am using Tomcat 6.0.20.
    For example if I insert the data at 7:24:04 PM on Feb 16, 2010 it will insert as: 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
    The date part works but the time always shows 12:00:00 AM no matter what date or time the data is inserted.
    Here is what I have for my JDBC inserts and I also tried something with DateFormat:
    PreparedStatement ps; Date mydate = new Date(new java.util.Date().getTime()); //insert statement here.... stmt.setDate(1,mydate);
    I also tried:
    PreparedStatement ps; java.sql.Timestamp mydate = new java.sql.Timestamp(new java.util.Date().getTime()); SimpleDateFormat fmt = new SimpleDateFormat(.... //insert statement here.... ps.setTimestamp(1,fmt.format(mydate));
    Both keep submitting the date into Oracle as 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
    Anyway to get the current date and time? For example if I insert the data at 7:24.04 pm today it should show as 16-Feb-2010 07:24.04 PM in Oracle.

  • Displaying Current Date and Time in JSP

    Hi,
    I need to insert the current date time in Ms SQL Server Database using jsp page. The format of the code willbe
    insert into table(update_date) values ('2007-01-01 10:02:21');
    But i am not getting how to display the current date and time ie. 2007-01-01 10:02:21 using jsp.
    I have tried using
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss");
    GregorianCalendar cal = new GregorianCalendar();
    String dd = sdf.format(cal.getTime());
    insert into table(update_date) values (dd);
    But it didnot get inserted data.
    Can anybody figure out with simple ideas.
    Thank You

    Why then are you trying to insert the current date on a table?
    To show the current date on the JSP you might try
    <%=new Date()%>Or the way you had it on your first post with the date formatter and then use the <%=%> tags. Anyway, it seems to me I'm not really understanding what you actually want to do :-p
    P.S. NOW() is a MySQL function too, not only MSSQL server (didn't even know it had it too ;-))
    mysql> insert into a(up) values (now());
    Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
    mysql> select * from a;

  • Transpose Distinct Date and Use as Column name

    All,
    I am trying to transpose a distinct date and use it as a column name and list the data below it. My version of Oracle does not have the pivot function. Plus I am having trouble with figuring out how to alter the table name to the distinct date. Can someone provide me with logic that will dynamically take the current format (see below) and transpose it to the needed format (see below)?
    Current format:
    WEEK_END_DATE     RD     STORE_NUMBER     RANK
    09-19-2009     R0011     00505     6
    09-19-2009     R0028     00097     97
    09-19-2009     R0057     01801     72
    09-19-2009     R0061     04775     72
    09-19-2009     R0068     03920     66
    09-26-2009     R0011     00505     8
    09-26-2009     R0028     00097     50
    09-26-2009     R0057     01801     120
    09-26-2009     R0061     04775     30
    09-26-2009     R0068     03920     1
    nth date
    The format I need:
    RD     STORE_NUMBER     09-19-2009 09-26-2009 nth date....
    R0011     00505     6 8
    R0028     00097     97 50
    R0057     01801     72 120
    R0061     04775     72 30
    R0068     03920     66 1

    I apprreciate your help. I have tried to implement the dynamic pivot logic. I can create the correct case statement and change the column name to the name I need.
    However, when I try to use @@dynamic_pivot.sql I get the following error:
    ORA-04054: database link ORAEDW@DYNAMIC_PIVOT_SUBSCRIPT does not exist
    I have tried it three ways...
    @@dynamic_pivot
    and @@dynamic_pivot.sql
    and @@c:\dynamic_pivot_subscript.sql
    I don't have direct access to the database. I have to run my queries from toad. When I cut and paste the generated case statements, It works. I am just not able to dynamiclly insert those case statements into a select. Do you have any suggestion?

    What works:
