Getting Flash to display properly in Dreamweaver

I made a navigation bar in Flash and imported it into
Dreamweaver. In Mozilla, everything works fine, but in IE the drop
down menus are flowing behind another flash movie on the page. I
have the navigation bar on a higher z-index than the other flash
movie and the wmode=opaque. Is there anything else I can do to get
it to flow on top?

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
Especially
consider those people who are browsing from a corporate
internet where Flash
is not allowed by the IT staff.
2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
not be
spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
You will have
to remake those buttons.
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons - and for
these reasons,
Adobe has removed Flash buttons and Flash text from the next
version of
Dreamweaver.
Any chance you would consider doing this?

How to get artwork to display properly and have chapters on podcasts?

Hi there. I have a podcast series I download called Aural Pleasures... They are DJ mixes which are made using GarageBand. They are chaptered and have different artwork for each song in the mix (each chapter). In iTunes on my Mac, as well as on my iPhone, the chapter artwork displays properly. On the iPad 2, however the artwork stays the same for the entire podcast.
Is this the intended layout for iPads? Why is it different than the iPhone and Mac?

Can't Get Fonts to Display Properly in Reader

I have a poster I'm trying to make available in a PDF file on the web.
The file displays properly if it's started/loaded directly on a
computer. But, when the file is downloaded from the web using a
browser and viewed in the browser the fonts are screwed up.
The fonts are embedded in the pdf file.
How do I make the fonts display properly in the browser downloaded
file?

Flash not displaying on my dreamweaver site(uploaded script folder)

Help! First I would like to apologize in advance if I am
posting this in the wrong place. I am new to this or really any
forum. I'm sure I'm typing this wrong and using improper verbage
when discribing the problem.
I am working on a site in dreamweaver and I am running into
a problem. Any flash I add to the site doesn't display at all when
I access the site from the web. When I test the site locally with
internet explorer it works fine. I searched through the forum and
saw the info regarding the AC_RunActiveContent.js file and I did
upload it.
When I access the site over the web I get an error at line 2
and line 164. Line 2 says invalid character (that line is blank)
and line 164 says object expected (see attached). I know the
problem lays somewhere in line 164 because if I remove it no flash
displays when testing the site locally.
Please help I can't use any flash buttons or run the news
flash ticker I just spent 5 hours working on!!

Doesn't Display Properly In Dreamweaver

Hi,
I just opened a website in Dreamweaver CS3 that was
originally created in Expression Web.
If I preview a page in a browser it looks fine, but in the
Dreamweaver design editing window it looks a mess. The bar across
the top is fine, but the left navigation column stretches all the
way across the page. Below that is a table that appears in the
middle of the screen in a browser and below that is the right hand
column. Also there is quite a bit of text that doesn't appear at
all in the Dreamweaver window although it displays fine in my
browser.
Please can someone tell me how to correct this so that I can
better see what I'm doing within Dreamweaver?

and that's working fine.

When I run my Webroot Clean -Up feature Firefox browser windows turn into tiny columns on the left of my screen and I have to unintall and reinstall to get it to display properly but then I loose all my bookmarks --- WHY?!?

this has happened every time I have run the clean-up feature. It is messing with some sort of setting in Firefox because if I uninstall Firefox and don't get rid of all my customizations (there is an option to keep/discard these upon un-installation) when I reinstall, I get the same problem...any ideas?!?

Why don't you stop using that program if it isn't working properly and corrupts your Firefox installation?
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Slideshow and Page do not display properly in Dreamweaver

I had a web designer redesign part of my website, www.mbpros.com. Specifically I had flash that was part of an include_top.htm page which appeared at the top of every page on my site...I wanted a slideshow so the developer designed a javascript slide show and placed it on each page of my site (as she said it didn't work when placed on the include_top.htm page). The site, when you view it, looks great with the slideshow.
I just downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver (had been using Microsoft Expression) in order to make changes to my site. Some of the pages appear correctly..
HOWEVER, other pages have the old flash at the top when I view in Dreamweaver...even though the page is supposedly coded correctly AND even though the page looks correct (with the slideshow, not flash) when viewed live in a browser....see
ANY IDEAS WHAT I CAN DO? I'm not a web designer at all...and need to be able to use a program like Dreamweaver to easily make simple changes without requiring the use of a web designer.

I may have misunderstood your question a littel and raced off and examined your site. What you are saying is that your pages in Dreamweaver look different to the web and you have some content that is from an old version of the site?
If that's the case, I'm wondering how you have set up the site in Dreamweaver? When you set up an individual site you should define a site. This helps dreamweaver manage various aspects of the site's structure. Did you do anything like that? Are you relying on an older copy of your site on your PC or did you install a completely fresh copy on your machine after the web designer's redesign?
One thing that I would try is to compare a page that does look ok with a page that does not. Identify the part of the page that doesn't look right and examine the two pages in code view to see if you can spot the difference.
Apart from that, the validation errors are a different thing. Your website is working and it looks pretty good and if that's your main concern that might be enough for you.
In the mean time, let's hope someone with a bit more clout can come up with some suggestions!

Setting img width to 100vw doesn't display properly in Dreamweaver CC

If I make a blank page and drop an image in it, remove height and width from the HTML, set the body tag margins to zero, and use CSS to set the width of the image to 100vw, it doesn't fit the image to the borders of the viewing area, but instead makes it a ridiculous, seemingly arbitrarily gigantic size. Testing in a browser or live view, it looks fine. I need Dreamweaver's design viewing area to respect the vw setting or ignore it altogether.
Edit: This seems to be true of everything: div tags, tables, whatever. Dreamweaver's design viewing area has some really crazy idea of how large it should be displaying these things when viewport width is used in CSS.

Thank you again for your response, but you really don't understand that I'm not asking to be told not to use a perfectly valid tag. Your suggestion that it's "too buggy for the wild" comes from no personal experience, seeing as how you didn't actually know what the property was when you replied the first time. Only two simple bugs are mentioned in this article, and the article itself is two years old. While I respect your point of view, it is simply not helpful in this matter.
The problems I'm experiencing are not inherent to CSS3; in my original post, I explain that it works fine in a browser and in the live-view. The problem is that Dreamweaver CC offers a drop-down list of various image sizes, and this list includes viewport width and height attributes, yet Dreamweaver itself displays these attributes incorrectly.

Can't get Safari to Display Properly

SInce installing Lion, Safari intermittently displays text as blocks of A's in boxes. Seemed to be linked to Extensis Suitcase Fusion. When the Core Engine was "ON" in System Preferences, it occurred. So, I upgraded from Fusion 2 to Fusion 3. Extensis did not answer my question directly except to say Fusion 3 was Lion compatible. After the upgrade, it continues to happen.
I have tried repairing permissions, emptying the cache, Onyx, restarting etc. Nothing works. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN FIREFOX. But I prefer to use Safari.
Anyone experiencing this or have another suggestion as the culprit over Suitcase Fusion?
Please help if you can. I want my websites back!

How to get keys to display properly

Hi all,
Over the years I have found a lot of great answers through these forums and I was hoping someone could help me with this new problem.
I just finally made the leap from OS 9.2 and have not been able to get several of my punctuation keys to work.
For instance, my apostrophe comes out è. And the quotation mark as È. The square brackets above them are ^ and ç and so on.
Ièm sure itès a relatively easy solution... (frustrating) but I have been gone through my help menus and these boards and nothing I have tried works.
I have a macally ikey keyboard.

Yes, Apple's 'Canadian' keyboards are the sort of things government agencies spec—and likely they're the only purchasers. The rest of us have become accustomed to what the market gives us: US keyboards. For some time I used the Australian setting, which kept results in line w/ the labels on the keys.
Tom Gewecke, longtime poster here on all things keyboard-related has a wee hack on his homepage called "CanUSA.rsrc" which merely applies the desired flag to the 'standard' keyboard. Sorry I don't have the link, but I'm sure you could search it out, and I'm not sure I should be linking to his page in any case.

How to load an applet with 2 classes and get it to display properly

Ok I am a very newbie as you can tell by code below but I need help duh. How do I get an imported an LDIF address book file to display properly?

x87, Win 7 64 bit pro. I backed up my address book by exporting an LDIF file to an external drive. My PC died and I bought a new one. I loaded Thunderbird 24.6.0 and imported the LDIF file. The addresses came in but they are not displayed in the address book properly. An address book folder named "TB Address Book 8-25-14" was created. When I select that folder the display to the right side of the window only shows a torso outline at the far left. The Name, Email, Chat Name, Organization, & work Phone fields are blank. If I select one of the entries and look at the properties, all of the data is there. If I move a contact to the Personal Address Book it still does not display correctly. However, there are two contact lists under the TB Address Boook 8-25-14 and if I select those sub-folders the data for each contact is displayed to the right. How do I get it to display properly so I can see what I'm doing? A friend of mine had a very similar problem importing into Thunderbird using Windows 8.

The problem fixed itself when I uninstalled ZumoDrive free cloud storage and also Growl the notifier application. Had to employ AppZapper to uninstall all related files.... but all worked a treat. All is back to normal.

Our co just came out with new presentations in PowerPoint. They are going toward iPad2, & suggest using Documents to Go on an iPad. But I'm trying to play the presentation on my MacBookPro 13" (April 2010), Snow Leopard. I have iWork & so it opens in Keynote which does not display it quite right. The alignment is off--it appears that the relationships between text boxes isn't quite the same. So there is a long table with arrows pointing to the totals at the bottom but the arrows are over the text.
I tried looking at it in Parallels 5 (Win 7) & it opened in Open Office. That looked better, but several slides aren't aligned right. They have horizontal lines between bullet points & the lines "creep" so that as it goes down the page the lines move up closer to the text & then on top of the text.
Not real up on PowerPoint or Keynote, but I'm guessing maybe the resolution or something is different that throws the alignment off. I am learning Keynote but had just dabbled with PowerPoint & of course had played slide shows created in PowerPoint that had been sent to me which usually didn't have as much text. Also if its just me looking at it, I can manage if it isn't lined up right, but to show to others, it needs to look
I need these to display properly since this is something to use with prospective clients. Also the presentation is designed so that different offices can select which slides they want to use. Our office is not using all of them. So I need to be able to select the slides as well as have them display properly.
Wondering if I could choose a power point reader with the pps to play it rather than having Keynote if that would work, but not sure how to do that.
I think the pdf displayed properly, but don't think I can select slides with that.
So how can I be able to select PowerPoint slides, & get them to display properly? At 1st I thought it might be that I didn't have the font used, but it shows as Trebuchet MS which also shows in my font list on the mac side.
I would prefer not to have to buy PowerPoint & would prefer to not have to use Parallels or Bootcamp, although I can if needed. I purchased Outlook 2007 for Windows which I used to use to sync with my old Win mobile phone. thankfully I was able to get rid of that & get an iPhone & now use the iLife aps rather than needing Outlook.
Also related to this presentation are related files that can be downloaded in either mp3 or mp4. I really don't know what the difference is or why choose one or the other.

OK, I found what seems to work. That is to open the actual ppt version of the download (not the one that had already been opened & saved in Keynote) in Open Office. So I had to open Open Office & then navigate to the file to open it so that it didn't open in Keynote.
At a One to One training on Keynote where I asked for help with this today he noted that it showed that the presentation had been created in an older version of PowerPoint--apparently 2003 for Windows which could explain some of the issues.
Opening it in Open office it displayed mostly ok. There were 2 or 3 or so slides where I had to tweak horizontal lines between bullet points that had crept up so some where through the text rather than under it. So I just selected the lines & nudged them into position.
Its not perfect & for some reason, some of the lines seem a hair thicker than others (which I guess I could go back & figure out how to use the line thickness tool to adjust, but think I will leave well enough alone for now).
As near as I can tell, this seems to work about equally well doing this on the Mac side or in Parallels in Windows 7. So will stick with the Mac side.
This allows me to run the slide show with me controlling when the different bullet points, etc display. It didn't have any exotic animations or transitions--just rather plain vanilla ones.

Page will not display properly with inline Frames

I have a html page that will not display properly in Dreamweaver. I have a basic understanding of html and want to be able to edit a website in Dreamweaver that was given to me. It looks fine in a browser, but in Dreamweaver some of the content is missing and displays the following message, "Your browser does not support inline frames or is currently configured not to display inline Frames". I was able to open it without any problems using Microsoft Front Page, so is it possible to view and edit it in Dreamweaver?

Without seeing your page, I'm guessing that your page contains server-side includes, iframes and scripts to other files on the server that populate page with content on the server's end. You can't see it in DW because you don't have all the files in your DW local site folder. You said this views fine in FP. Was your page created in FP with FP proprietary tools?

Samsung HDTV wont display properly

I hooked my dual core Mini to my Samsung TX-P2670WH HDTV with a DVI cable. The text is blurry and I have to set the resolution at 640 x 480 just to make it out. The specs say it is 720p and 1080i compatible TV. No amount of tweaking with settings has helped. How do I get it to display properly?

It might be that your TV is always doing some kind of scaling and/or image smoothing regardless of the incoming signal. While this usually works really well for video, it will usually completely ruin computer output by making the image blurry.
Try turning off all possible "image optimization" settings on the TV and then setting the resolution as close as you can to the native resolution of the screen.
Note that on some TVs it is impossible to completely turn off image scaling so you will always end up with somewhat unclear picture. The effect is very similar to driving your LCD monitor on a resultion that is different than its native one.
