Getting images to render without degradation

Hi guys
I need some help. I'm a new Final Cut Studio user, and want to know how to ensure my imported images (high rez JPEG files) render smoothly in FC?
The specific images are newspaper clippings, and when I render them as a Quicktime movie, the text appears degraded and pixelated. Is there any way of improving this?
Please help!
Thanks
Rob

Rob
You need to bear in mind the resolution that the newspaper cuttings were scanned at versus the resolution and codec of your sequence. Obviously a high res scan would be bound to be much degraded if the target resolution of your Quicktime Movie is quite small and/or a low quality codec. What are the dimensions of these JPEG files and what sequence settings are you using in FCP?

  • How to get images dynamically from database without file paths in the table field

    I have a MS-Access database. I am working with ASP.NET. In the database there is product table in which I have "CodeNo" as a field which is a text field, and the product codes like "SM-R-2035". I also have another field "Image" which is also a text field and which have a file path in it corresponding to the particular product Image (e.g. Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg). So far every thing is ok. I have to update this site very frequently and lots of images are added each and every time. Its a tedious work to type the paths and file name every time and it also take a lot of time.
    What I am asking is : Is it possible to get images from a specific folder at runtime which is referenced by the "code no" itself and not the file path from the database. (Say at run time the "code no" is referenced from the database and the corresponding image is loaded dynamically from the specified folder). In other word I want to avoid the tedious work of typing.
    Can any one help with this issue. Any other simple suggestions are welcome.

    All you need to do is simple concatenation to obtain the path for the image file.  You didn't mention whether you are using VB.Net, C# or some other language to do your coding.
    If the code in your database is SM-R-2035, the file name is SM-R-2035.jpg and the path to the images foilder is Images\Products\SM-R-2035.jpg, Conceptually here is what you need to do:
    dim code_var
    dim path_var
    code_var = the code you obtain from your relevant field in the database
    path_var = "Images\Products\" & code_var & ".jpg"
    Now path_var is what you would call to obtain the image from your images folder.

    In any real application, it's a mistake to mix your presentation (user interface) code with your persistance (database access) code.
    Why? You want maintainability, flexibility, and testability.
    Maintainability:
    Suppose you want to change the structure of your database. E.g. the database admin (which may be you, or someone else) determines that the database design you have is inefficient and needs to be changed. If your database code is scattered over the whole application, mixed in among your user interface code, tracking down what needs to be changed will be a nightmare. If all your database code is in a single class, or perhaps a set of classes in a single package, then the updates are localized and much easier to manage. Furthermore, you can build the new database access code on its own, test it out, and then when you are sure it works just switch your user interface code to use the new persistance layer instead of the old one. The same applies if you decide you're going to use a completely different technology to store the data; perhaps you want to use something like Hibernate instead of plain JDBC, or maybe you decide you want to make the data accessibile via a web service.
    Flexibility:
    What if you (or, more likely, your manager) decides they're going to change to a new user interface technology. Maybe they decide to switch to a web application (i.e. HTML-based) instead of a desktop application. You obviously need to rewrite the user interface code, but you should be able to keep all the database access code you've written. If your database access code is all jumbled up with the user interface code you're replacing, it's going to be way harder to reuse that code. If the two are separated out, you just build a new user interface in whatever new technology you're using, and access the same class(es) you used for your database access without touching them.
    Testability:
    This whole thread is actually a demo of how testability is much harder if you don't properly separate your code. You posted "getting image stored in database", thinking that was your problem. It wasn't; your problem was actually an error in the way you'd set up your JavaFX code. Because the two were completely mixed together, it was hard to know where the error was. The error you had was actually a really simple one; it would have been much easier to see if you had simpler, properly separated code; but because you didn't organize your code like that it took you days to figure out the problem. This was only a couple of dozen lines of code; imagine how this looks in a real application with hundreds or thousands of classes.
    The point is that decisions about how to access your data (standalone database, web service, or EJB?; plain JDBC, JPA, Hibernate, etc?) , and decisions about the presentation technology (desktop or web? JavaFX or Swing?, or Servlets/JSPs, JSF, Swing MVC, or any of a huge number of frameworks) are completely independent. You should be in a position to change those decisions - to redesign aspects of the application - with the least amount of effort possible. Failing to properly design things will make this much harder, or likely completely impossible.
    These are real concerns that affect every application that goes into production.
    Even if you're just making a small application, it will benefit you to set things up correctly from the outset.

  • Rich text box used in Infopath Form not displaying option to get images from Computer

    Hello,
    We have used "Rich text box" in Infopath Form which is not displaying option to get images from Computer.
    Options available are : From Address, From SharePoint
    But if we Rich text box in list, then it works fine with "From Computer" option.
    can you please help me out to get this option.
    Thanks in advance.
    REgards,
    Jayashri

    Hi,
    From your description, there is no “From Computer” option to get images with rich text box in InfoPath form.
    Per my knowledge, by design there are “From Address” and “From SharePoint” options without “From Computer” option in rich text box in InfoPath form. As a workaround, you can develop a custom InfoPath Rich Text box to do it.
    About developing a custom InfoPath control, I suggest you create a new thread on the forum “Visual Studio Tools for Office”, more experts will assist you with InfoPath development.

  • Getting Images To Load On Web?

    Hi all,
    I have a question about how to get images to load in an applet once it is uploaded to a website. When I run the applet in JGrasp it works fine but if I try to open the applet in a web browser (via an html file on the hard drive) nothing loads. If I take the code out that sets the background image the application loads fine in the web browser.
    The image is in the same directory as the class file and html file. Is there a way I can get this method to work (loading off the hard drive and also off the website when it's uploaded) or do I have to use a jar file? I have spent some time searching for tutorials and demos but haven't been able to get the jar file to work either. I'm fairly new to programming and most of the examples I found were way over my head.
    Any help in getting this problem solved will be greatly appreciated.
    Here is a short sample program to illustrate the problem: For some reason this sample program only loads in IE and not in Firefox.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class Test extends JApplet implements ActionListener
    {     Container     mainWindow;
         public void init()
         {     ImagePanel panel = new ImagePanel(new ImageIcon("Background.jpg").getImage());
              setContentPane(panel);
              mainWindow = getContentPane();
              mainWindow.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
              JLabel label = new JLabel("TESTING");
              mainWindow.add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER);
              setSize(1000, 500);
              setVisible(true);
              mainWindow.validate();
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { }
    class ImagePanel extends JPanel
    {     private Image img;
         public ImagePanel(String img)
         {     this(new ImageIcon(img).getImage());
         public ImagePanel(Image img)
         {     this.img = img;
              Dimension size = new Dimension(img.getWidth(null), img.getHeight(null));
              setPreferredSize(size);
              setMinimumSize(size);
              setMaximumSize(size);
              setSize(size);
              setLayout(null);
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
         {     g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);
    CODE FOR HTML FILE:
    <html><body>
    <CENTER>
         <applet code="Test.class" width="1000" height="500"></applet>
    </CENTER>=
    </body></html>

    Hello again,
    I've got one more small question. I modified the code a little bit so I could create an Image folder (package) which holds all of the images and the ImagePanel class. Since the ImagePanel and images are all in the same folder, I modified the ImagePanel constructor to take a string and then load the file with that name. It works in JGrasp and when I open it in a web browser from my computer, but when I upload it to the site it no longer works. Is there a way to get at these images inside the folder when it's online without drastically changing the method I used in the first place? I saved the original files that I can go back to so if it's not an easy fix then that's no big deal, but I thought I'd ask just in case it is something simple as it would be nice to have the files more organized. Thanks.
    Here's the updated code.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class Test extends JApplet implements ActionListener
    {     Container     mainWindow;
         URL               url;
         public void init()
              ImagePanel panel = new ImagePanel("Background.jpg");          // background image
              setContentPane(panel);
                mainWindow = getContentPane();
                mainWindow.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
              JLabel label = new JLabel("TESTING");
              mainWindow.add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER);
              setSize(1000, 500);
              setVisible(true);
              mainWindow.validate();
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { }
    class ImagePanel extends JPanel
    {     private Image img;
         public ImagePanel(String img)
         {     this(new ImageIcon(img).getImage());

         {     this.img = img;
              Dimension size = new Dimension(img.getWidth(null), img.getHeight(null));
              setPreferredSize(size);
              setMinimumSize(size);
              setMaximumSize(size);
              setSize(size);
              setLayout(null);
         public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
         {     g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);
    }Inside "Image" folder:
    package Image;

         public Image img;
         public ImagePanel(String imageFile)
              Image img = new ImageIcon(getClass().getResource(imageFile)).getImage();
              this.img = img;
              Dimension size = new Dimension(img.getWidth(null), img.getHeight(null));          // set size = size of image

  • Get image file name

    Hi ALL,
    I want all image file naming like a caption in my source document. Source document contains more than 100 images.
    But i got a script through the forum and tuned for my script. Still, the file naming comes for the Ist page image only.
    From second page onwards the file naming not comes like a caption.
    Trying script:
    //To Get image file name
    var tgt = app.activeDocument.rectangles;
    for (i=0;i<tgt.length;i++){
        myCaption = app.activeDocument.textFrames.add();
        myCaption.textFramePreferences.verticalJustification = VerticalJustification.TOP_ALIGN
        myCaption.contents = tgt[i].graphics[0].itemLink.name
        myCaption.paragraphs[0].justification = Justification.CENTER_ALIGN;
        bnds = tgt[i].visibleBounds;
        myCaption.visibleBounds =
            [bnds[2]+12, bnds[1], bnds[2]+4,bnds[3]];
            //[bnds[0]-6, bnds[1], bnds[0]-1,bnds[3]];
            myCaption.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    Thanks in advance
    BEGINNER

    If you use the add() method in conjunction with the document without specifying the page or better the spread, all objects added will end up on the first spread of your document.
    But your testing scenario is also too narrow. You are expecting:
    1. All your graphics are sitting in Rectangle objects (what about Ovals or Polygons?)
    Therefore: All graphics placed in ovals or polygons are left out.
    2. That really ALL rectangles in your document contain graphics
    You are in trouble, if there happen to be empty rectangles on a page. I would suggest to test that with your script. It will give you an error, because there is no graphics[0] for this specific rectangle, where you can draw the "name" for the "itemLink".
    3. That there are no graphics in anchored objects or pasted inside other objects; left alone graphics inside table cells.
    And who can say that thiese three restrictions exist in all documents you want to run this script against?
    So, if you want to get to all image files in the document, why don't you start with the images in the first place?
    Let's see:
    the Document object has an "allGraphics" property.
    Use that as a starting point and you will not missing a single graphic.*
    Iterate through "allGraphics" will get you:
    the "name" of the placed image through its itemLink.name property;
    the container of the graphic, that's the "parent" of the graphic.
    Now you need one other thing:
    the page, or even better(!) the spread where the graphic is located. Imagine a graphic sitting outside of a page.
    If you want to handle thiese, you must know the spread.
    If  writing this script for InDesign CS5 or above, you are in luck. There is a "parentPage" property of the "Graphic" object, you could use for your add() method. For graphics outside of pages this property will be "null".
    And another important thing:
    if a graphic is copy/pasted from e.g. PhotoShop to InDesign, the "itemLink"  property of that graphic is also "null".
    We can handle that in a try/catch scenario…
    //Scope: all graphics on all pages
    //(that includes graphics of anchored objects, active states of MSOs, graphics in table cells as well)
    var tgt = app.activeDocument.allGraphics;
    for(var i=0;i<tgt.length;i++){
        //Narrow the scope to all graphics on pages only:
        if(tgt[i].parentPage != null){
            //What to do with graphics, that are pasted directly from none-InDesign files:
            //the caption will read "Undefined"
            try{
            var myName = tgt[i].itemLink.name;
            }catch(e){var myName = "Undefined"};
            //targets the page of the graphic:
            var myPage = tgt[i].parentPage;
            //adds a text frame to the page of the graphic:
            var myCaption = myPage.textFrames.add();
            myCaption.textFramePreferences.verticalJustification = VerticalJustification.TOP_ALIGN;
            myCaption.contents = myName;
            myCaption.paragraphs[0].justification = Justification.CENTER_ALIGN;
            //Why visible bounds and not geometric bounds?
            var bnds = tgt[i].parent.visibleBounds;
            myCaption.visibleBounds = [bnds[2]+12, bnds[1], bnds[2]+4,bnds[3]];
            myCaption.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    *Not exactly true, because it is missing graphics in not-active states of  MultiStateObjects.
    Since MSOs were introduced in InDesign CS5 the DOM documentation left out this fact so far.
    //EDIT: in the first version I had a comment on a different scope. Since  Document Objects have no "graphic" property, I removed that comment. Sorry.

  • "Get media content now" without data connection?

    Hi all.
    I have a prepaid sim in my Lumia because I use it very little. When I got my Lumia charged and running 2 weeks ago, I had the equivalent of over $240 credit on my SIM card, "Data connection" was switched on and once the Lumia was running, I sent one single text message with the word "testing" to my daughter. Next day I was horrified when my provider sent me a message "you have less than 10 Francs credit". I called Swisscom and they told me that the day before, my Lumia had gobbled up more than the equivalent of $150 and that THAT day so far it had used up over $80. I felt absolutely sick. Normally 100 Swiss Francs lasts me for a year.
    They told me to switch off the Data connection and just use wifi. But now, when my daughter sends me a picture, I just get that blasted "Get media content now" message.
    I simply cannot afford the data connection. I could get images and multimedia content messages fine with my late departed and much-missed E7 and even my old Communicator could pick up multi-media via wifi. so why the step back with the Lumia ??? And is there any way I can get e.g. multimedia images without a data connection (I already tried the aircraft mode on/off trick with no luck).
    Our entire family have been Nokia customers since they first made mobile phones but by now I am the only one of us who has persevered (thanks to the Communicator then the E7)  but I hate this bloody Lumia 900 thing which I received as a replacement for my non-charging E7. I swear I am going to put it on ebay and get myself an Iphone and will never buy a Nokia again.

    The 150+ SFr was presumably from a phone software update. I didn't send an MMS message but an SMS = one word only.
    I checked that the wifi icon was on at all times but the Nokia seems to look first for G3. Because Nokia didn't even have the courtesy of sending me a manual or user instructions of any kind (or charger or SIM removal pin or headphones) when they sent me this phone, I didn't think of checking the data connection setting to be honest.
    Last night I wasted a further 7 hours trying to install Zune on my XP PC.. It said it couldn't install because Media Centre needed updating to Rollup 2 or later. I already HAVE all the Media Centre updates, went to Microsoft, wanted to download it again, they wanted verification but when I ran their verification tool I was told that the verification tool was outdated and to use the later version - yes, and that on the Microsoft website..
    After 7 hrs of going round in circles, I went to bed at 5 a.m. and today went to Swisscom and got myself an Iphone 4. I have better things to do than to spend 7 hours trying to install software..
    OK, it's another rant but I am mightily dissatisfied with Nokia - even the keypad keeps rolling itself up when I try to enter something. so to enter a 10 digit phone number takes a total of about 30+ taps because the damn keypad disappears before I can tap on a number. Incredible.

  • How to access iPhone "Photo Library" to get image file properties?

    I want to access iPhone "Photo Library" to get image file properties(name, list etc..) without dialog.
    Is there any suitable method/class to this?

    Allan,
    Thank you for your reply!
    My purpose is access to "Photo Library" by iPhone API.
    Because, I know several iPhone application which has own image list and the list is synced to "Photo Library".
    If I take photo by iPhone native camera, the taken photo is listed up on the image list so I guess those applications can access to "Photo Library" directly.
    Or.. any other solution..?

  • Force start frame number in image sequence render

    I have a 900 frame comp rendered to a numbered image sequence.
    After applying a revision to frames 250-300, I would like to render
    only those frames, overwriting the originals.
    I have tried:
    Under >Render Settings, "Work Area Only", with "Skip existing files" off.
    This renders the correct frames as designated by the Work Area Bar,
    but the frame numbering begins at 1 instead of 250.
    Under >Render Settings, "Custom", with "Skip existing files" off.
    In the Custom fields, I specify frames 250-300.
    This renders the correct frames as designated by the Custom setting,
    but the frame numbering still begins at 1 instead of 250.
    Using both of the above settings, I have also tried to "force" a start frame
    in the Output Module by manually entering "filename_[00250]".
    The result is a new 51 frame sequence starting with "filename_[00250]_00001".
    How can I get a partial render to overwrite the correctly
    numbered original frames in an image sequence?

    I have figured out what I was doing wrong.
    I turns out that you can indeed force a start frame
    number in the Output Module, but I was using it incorrectly.
    Instead of having "Use Comp Frame Number" checked,
    I had specified a starting frame number (1 - the first frame of comp).
    The result is that regardless of what specified segment I rendered,
    the output frames always were numbered starting with frame 1.
    After checking "Use Comp Frame Number", problem solved.
    Thanks for the input in helping me track down my error.

  • Get Image Subset VI ignores original image offset

    Hi,
    I'm have a problem with Get Image Subset VI.
    My program gets original image rectangle from a image and apply a offset for draw in a picture control.
    But the image cannot across a region delimited by another rectangle. So, i use Get Image Subset with a
    image (with offset) and a deilimiter rectangle.
    I give the same subset of image with and without offset.

  • Enlarging an image on mouseover without using Flash

    Enlarging an image on mouseover without using Flash
    I use DW MX 2004 with Windows 2000
    I want to create the following effect. I have two versions of
    an image,
    geyso_scr... (which is screen size) and geyso_sm (which is

    This works all right (on mouseover there is a shift of about

    How can I conveniently get the large image hovering on top of

    list-item in
    question to become slightly larger (not only to change colour
    etc). Can
    that be done without converting the text into images.
    Is there any tutorial for that?
    (No point in arguing with the client that the text should be
    made large
    enough to read in the first place. I have tried that in
    vain.)
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Netlace Design,
    This looks interesting, but where do I get the code for this.
    How is it
    done without javascript.
    Thanks,

  • Get Image of Control

    Ordinarily, the "Get Image" method of a control works fine.  However it has the side effect of purging the undo buffer.  I want to get an image of a control without purging the undo buffer.
    The "Front Panel:Get Image" method of a VI doesn't purge the undo buffer, so it should be possible to calculate the position of a control on the FP then crop the image.
    However there is some extra offset that comes into play that I can't figure out; this offset seems never to vary in any VI, but is different from VI to VI.  The attached VI shows how I'm calculating the position.
    Any ideas?

    Yes, that works in LV 2010, but not in LV 2011.  I've managed to cobble together a workaround that works reasonably well.

  • FP.Get Image method does not capture the background image

    The attached VI (8.5) demonstrates the issue nicely - the background image is not included in the image captured by the FP.Get Image method.
    Workaround - don't use the background image if you want to capture the FP like this - paste your image in the background or use a picture control.

    If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode

    iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
    A Complete Guide to Recover Your iDevice if You Forget Your Passcode
    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
    Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
    Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
    Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
             option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
             you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
               After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
              to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
              iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
    If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
    Placing your device into recovery mode:
    Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
             of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
             red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
              If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
             The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
             charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
             When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
    If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
    Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
