Getting jsp filename within a servlet

Hi,
I am trying to build a simple web app to get deeper into the basic of jsp/servlet programming.Until now I only used the JSF framework but I want to know some basics :)
For this little project I have 2 JSP Views with forms which will be send to the Controllerservlet where the servlet could access the Model. After that, the Servlet should redirect to the proper result page( depend on the form-views).
An Example:
I fill out a form at user.jsp. User.jsp sends the submit via POST to the Controllerservlet. Within the servlet I want to identify the name of the submitter (user.jsp) to select the proper result page via a redirect.
But how can I do this? I could only find methods inside the request object where I can get the servlet name. Is it possible to get "user.jsp" or should I use a hidden paramater to decide which result page I should "render"?
Thnx
Alex

Check out the HTTP header field "referer" (yes, the spelling is wrong in the standard). That tells you what page called the servlet, which will be your user.jsp. Just be careful with redirects because they change the referrer. You can get headers from the request object also using the getHeader() method.

  • How to get iStore template name from jsp filename?

    Hi,
    We have implemented Oracle iStore R12.
    We have a requirement where we want to get template access name based on jsp file name. e.g. If jsp is ibeCCkdBHdrShip.jsp it should return STORE_CHKOUT_B2B_SHIP_HEADER.
    Is there any java API available for the same?
    We know we can get jsp filename from template access name as follows:
    String jspFilename = DisplayManager.getTemplate("STORE_CHKOUT_B2B_SHIP_HEADER").getFileName()
    However our requirement is other way round..getting access name based on jsp filename.
    Any prompt help/suggestion in this regard is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vivek

    Hi Vivek,
                            how about the query? can you use the query in your code ? If yes please use the query below.
    SELECT distinct I.ACCESS_NAME,
    A.FILE_NAME,i.description,I.Item_Name
      FROM JTF.JTF_AMV_ATTACHMENTS A,
      APPS.JTF_AMV_ITEMS_VL I,
      IBE.IBE_DSP_LGL_PHYS_MAP M,
      IBE.IBE_MSITES_TL S
      WHERE
      A.ATTACHMENT_ID = M.ATTACHMENT_ID
      AND I.ITEM_ID = M.ITEM_ID
      AND M.MSITE_ID = S.MSITE_ID
      AND A.File_Name like 'ibeCCtdStBlSuStI.jsp'
      Order by A.File_Name

  • How to get JSP file name within a servlet?

    I wonder is there any method that we could use to print out the JSP's file name which called a servlet within the servlet itself? For instance, A.jsp called B.class which is a servlet, and when the servlet is being invoked print out "A.jsp" or "A" in a dos screen.
    Thanks for any reply.

    The Referer is an optional HTTP header, and it only exists when a page is called from an hyperlink (i.e. from another web page). The general meaning of Referer is the "caller page". There at least two situations in which there will be no Referer header:
    1. When the usuer types in the destination page address directly, or get it from a bookmark/favorite or similar. Since there is no caller page, there would be no Referer.
    2. Althought browsers usually send the referal page when you choose a link, some privacy control programs (such as Norton Internet Security etc.) can intercept the request and strip out the Referer header, even when there is a caller page.

    how can i get the filename of the active jsp page?

    You could register the JSP [ages in the web.xml and then use the ServletConfig.getServletName.
    You could use the JspContex.getServletName which will return the registered name or the name of the servlet class.
    You could programmatically add a page context attribute that holds the jsp page name

    For those kind of basic questions it would help a lot if you just gently consult the javadocs and tutorials.

    I am looking for some insite into how to have JSP's interact with servlets in the JDev3.1 enviroment.

I am looking for insite into how to register a servlet(s) to allow the interaction as described in the JDeveloper enviroment.

    Is this an acceptable method for instantiating the servlet and calling a methodNo, this is an acceptible way of invoking a normal java class, not a servlet. Servlets need to be instantiated in run by the webserver by means of either calling it using a browser, or linking/redirecting to it from a JSP.
    When a servlet cannot be found, this is most likely due to it not being properly mapped inside the web.xml file, or the .class file is not stored in the proper directory. The fact that JBoss could run the servlet is a mystery to me however, one would expect that both servers would behave the same...
    One thing that I can think of: is your servlet part of a package? If not that may be the problem, you should always put servlets in a package.

  • Instantiate a bean from within a Servlet

    I am attempting to instantiate a bean from within a Servlet. Basically, I would like to set my bean properties from within a central controlling servlet, then call a worker class to take care of my database insert. The worker class would get its values from the bean.
    Does this sound reasonable? I'm sure this is quite possible and very easy to pull off, however I can't seem to find a single example. An example would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    I have read what you have done.
    Now in the servlet add something like
    HttpSession ses=request.getSession(true);</stro
    ses.addAttribute("user","your Bean name");*
    in the JSP get this atribute by
    session.getAttribute("user");+
    Anyway, how have you configured your server? I am using a Bean Class and trying to instantiate in a sevlet. An exception is occuring.
    import mypack.User; //it is nicely imported*
    //in the doPOST() method
    User user=new User();+ //trying to instantiate
    it is giving an Exception. Kindly help.

    There is no specific API for this, call the method of the servlet which returns the required value in your JSP page.

  • Is there a way to get the filename only on iOS using CameraRoll?

    This post is a sidetrack from this post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/848761?tstart=0
    The method used in that post works perfect on both Android and iOS for selecting and uploading files.... BUT is there a way to get the filename of the file from the mediaPromise cross-plattform?
    If you let the user select an image it's not very nice to have the image be called "temp.jpg" after uploading - you want the user to know which image he/her have uploaded
    Any ideas? The "mediaPromise.file.relativePath()" works on Android but not on iOS. Not "mediaPromise["file"].url/relativePath/nativePath" either.
    Thank you

    Hey Joe what do you think of this solution.
    1. Let the user select the image
    2. Store the mediaPromise object in an array (event.data) for later use
    3. Load in the object using loadMediaPremise
    4. Add the loaded image into a movieclip (not visible from the scene)
    5. Resize that movieclip to let's say 100x100
    6. Use the BitmapData class to create a new bitmap from that movieclip and save it to storage
    7. Use the saved file within the app as a thumbail
    8. Use the mediaPromise object stored in the array later when the user wants to upload the images (then go through mediaPromise.open() on each image -> save to storage -> upload -> clear from storage -> loop).
    I haven't tried it yet (will do this week) but should that be a acceptable solution to the problem(?)
    I'm unsure if by just keeping the mediaPromise object within Flash will make the memory run wild though?

  • WebLogic Server 7.0: Including another JSP from within a custom tag

    Hi all,
              has anyone made experience with including (ie. processing) a dynamic
              resource (JSP) from within a custom JSP tag?
              Using the following code inside doEndTag():
              pageContext.include("/templates/blub.jsp");
              throws a ServletException (Note: the JSP is a part of the web app
              which is deployed as war). Does it make a difference if the web
              application is warred up into and therefore include cannot resolve the
              specified relative URL?
              [Tomcat 4.1.10 doesn't have problems for that matter]

    Try the same code from an exploded web app.
