Getting Receipt confirming e mail has been read

When sending an e mail I would like confirmation that it has been opened / read by the person (s) it has been sent to.
Can it be done..?
How do you set it up..?

I found something online which does the job very well.
PLEASE NOTE: I did not create this but I couldn't find the link to the site I found it on initially, so apologies to the original write for not giving credit.
Paste this into Script Editor and make into an application.
Double clicking on it will present you with a dialogue box asking which account you wish to use (if you have multiple accounts) and will then pop up a normal compose mail box.
For some reason if you have images attached to your signature it doesn't display them when you compose your mail but it will still send them regardless.
Obviously this is subject to the receiver having a mail client that will accept read receipts.
tell application "Mail"
set listOfSenders to {}
set everyAccount to every account
repeat with eachAccount in everyAccount
set everyEmailAddress to email addresses of eachAccount
if (everyEmailAddress is not equal to missing value) then
repeat with eachEmailAddress in everyEmailAddress
set listOfSenders to listOfSenders & {(full name of eachAccount & " <"Which account would you like to send this message from?" without multiple selections allowed
if theResult is not equal to false then
set theSender to item 1 of theResult
tell application "Mail"
set newMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {}
tell newMessage
set visible to true
set sender to theSender & "
Disposition-Notification-To: " & theSender
end tell
activate
end tell
end if
I hope this helps you out. Tested and working in 10.4.11

  • How to get notification that a mail has been read

Is there any way to use Java mail to tell if a mail that you sent has been read?

I think you are asking too much....
ok fine i will put that in a different way...see for sending mails you are using JavaMail right.... and u might be sending mails to other mail servers say yahoo.com or hotmail.com...or anithing else... so when the person at the other end reads the mail...say yahoo.com... yahoo server knows that the mail is read... so it is impossible to reply back automatically to the person who sent the mail...
yeah it is very much possible if this is with in the server...say withing your organisation like <[email protected]>...so that u are implementing both the parts i mean reading mails and writing mails... so the control is in your hand.
I hope I am very clear...
    all da best

  • Confirmation that email has been read

Is there a way in Mail to receive a confirmation that an email I've sent has been opened by the recipient? If yes, how do I do that?

there is a plugin somewhere on versiontracker.com to add some headers to your mail messages to add this feature, but if the recipient's email doesn't support it, you won't get a confirmation.

  • How can I see if a sent e-mail has been read?

Having moved from a PC to a MAC, in Outlook and Thunderbird I was able to get an e-mail response when an e-mail I had sent had been read. I have searched preferences within Mail but have been unable to see how to set set this up.

There is no option for read receipts in Mail.app, thank heavens. There are a few scripts around which supposedly add this function but from what I have read they are unreliable and I don't know if any would work in Snow Leopard.
As an aside user of Outlook (which supports them) can disable this function so asking for one can be a waste of time.

  • Knowing when outgoing mail has been read

is there a way to automate Mail so that you know when a "sent" email has been opened by the recipient?

No, and there is really no way of knowing, and many people (me too!) would consider that it would be an invasion of privacy if it was available. If the recipient's client supports it, and the recipient has not turned it off, you may be able to get a delivery receipt - see this thread yesterday.

  • Can I ask for proof that my mail has been read

I'm looking for what is sometimes called "read receipt" in other email programs. Where's the box to click to ask them to confirm that the message has been received at the far end?

Well, yes, but it seems to be a somewhat cumbersome workaround!
Indeedy! And at the end of the day you're still reliant on the receivers email application supporting it.

  • Notify when mail has been read

Is it possible to set Mail to notify you when messages you have sent have been read?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

There is a Mail.app plugin available for Jaguar/Panther Mail that provides a read receipt request but I don't believe a Tiger Mail.app version has been provided.

  • I click to restore my iPhone from the last backup that I've made, I get the confirmation that it has been restored however, when my iPhone restarts nothing changes, it comes up as the 'set up' like a new iPhone again. Help!!

I've tried several times and the same thing keeps happening, my iPhone says its backing up it restarts itself but it's back to the start and it sets up as a new iPhone

You may not get a response as you are shouting at everyone.
All caps indicates shouting, is considered rude, and is difficult to read.
Many will not read such posts.
Try turning off you caps lock and asking again.

  • Mail icon shows new mail but all mail has been read.  Won't update with phone reset.

My mail icon shows new mail (1 currently) but I have no new mail.  I have synced phone and turned off several times to no avail.

If you have reset your phone several times and does not fix , then restore your phone in itunes from your backup. Be sure that you have a recent backup with all items that you wanted saved, synced.
BEFORE, you do the restore, try deleting the mail account and reaading it and see if that fixes the issue, otherwise , then do the restore.

  • When a read receipt shows delivered, will it then show read once it's has been read?

when a read receipt shows delivered in messaging, will it then show read once it's has been read?

Lets think about this for a bit. You have no problem when sending from Thunderbird. You have the problem when sending from 2 different Android smart phones that Thunderbird does not run on. You are connecting to your IMAP email account that is run by your email provider and viewing the folders on your provider's mail server.
You are threatening to stop using Thunderbird? The one part of this equation that works. It is free software so I am sure Thunderbird will not miss the lack of revenue. I am just trying to understand your logic or lack there of.

  • Verify an email has been read

I recently sent some emails which looked like they had been sent (they were in my sent box and I did not receive any "delivery faiure" notice) only to be told later that the mail had never been recieved. Is there anyway to verify a mail has been recieved? read?

OK guys, here is something that you may like. Please copy the following text into the Applescript editor, compile it and run it and have fun with all those nice return receipts ...
    Ody
This script is based upon the Standard Apple Script "Create New Mail" located in the folder
/library/scripts/Mail Scripts. I have deleted the unneccesary parts (at least for this purpose).
The script assumes that you multiple mail identities (accounts), so as in the original script,
the modified script asks you to select the account from which the email should be sent.
The rest of the script I've either deleted or is pretty much the same as the original.
The only "innovation" you see in line 22. Since we know the sender through the selection procedure,
I afterwards added a new line "\n" and then the required headerline (Disposition-Noticiation-To:)
together with the senders email that we already know. Please take care that theSender that
comes out of your address book doesn't contain single or double quotation marks. In this case
the mail will be sent out but the recipient will see no receipt request. When you compile this routine
    - what you definitely have to do - you will see that "\n" vanished and the rest of the former line
(Disposition-Notification-To ...) is now in line 23. Don't worry the \n that forces a new line in the outgoing
mail is still there and active.
Now you have to add a new rule to mark the mails where you have requested a Notification.
Within "Create New Rules" you have to edit the header and add a new Headertype named
"Disposition-Notification-To". The rule is simple: if a mail contains an @-sign in this headerline
colour it as you like. Now you not only will see within your sent items the mails where you have
requested a return receipt from addressee but also in the Inbox the mails where the sender
asks you send him a return receipt
After the script has been compiled and saved you can run it from within the editor. You will se blank
email window poping up. Now just write your email select the addressee and that's it.
The script below is an example for "New Email & Receipt" If you want to be perfect you can do the
same with "Answer & Receipt", "Answer to All & Receipt" and "Forward & Receipt" and by using iKey2
or something similar you can run those scripts from an external menu or Hot-key. If you like you can
try to start the script(s) from within Mail Act-On. But my Apple Mail always crashes when I tried to do this.
This has been tested on Intel Mac under 10.4.7 together with Exchange 2003 and Exim as a Mailserver
    Good luck - Ody

PSE12 editor stopped working - sas elements 12 editor not working - how can i get editor to work - which has been working fine for a year nowÉ

Thanks for the quick response ...
I had already tried deleting the review slide itself, though Captivate wouldn't let me - it just hid it. I tried again using the method you recommended but the slide remained in the filmstrip, so I tried deleting again, then re-added it from the Quiz Settings page ... no joy, same behavior as before.
I checked the Advanced Interaction page and confirmed that all of the scored questions were configuredthe same way as the non-scored questions, with the only difference being the pool that they were drawing from.
Other thoughts? I am by no means a Captivate expert but this one really feels like it shouldn't be this hard, and I'm more than a little afraid that it's the file itself that's jacked up ...
