Getting the WS Remote Hostname via the PRC?

Is there any way of programatically determining the portal's WS Server name, as defined in the .properties file used for install/upgrade?
I need this when calling IRemoteSession.GetExplicitLoginContext... needed to generate the URI for the first parameter to the function.
BTW, this parameter is HIGHLY underdocumented, and I'd love to see a much better explanation of what it's expecting there. All the examples seem to use the QueryInterfaceAPI service on the WS Remote Server host, but it's not clear exactly why. My application isn't doing queries, plus there seems to be many API's in the ptapi directory. However, the QueryInterfaceAPI service does get the remote session open, so I guess its sufficient, but it still seems wrong. :)
Thanks for any clarification you can give,
Jesse Wolfe

Jesse,
You should always be using the QueryInterfaceAPI - this API is used to query for all the subinterfaces themselves, not for portal objects, so should always be used as the main URI.
I am not sure what context you are running in when you want to determine the WS Server's name. If you are running as a portlet it is simple as it is sent by the portal (hence the ability to get the remote session from the portlet context), otherwise I'm not sure where you'd aim to look it up from (portal UI? portal DB?).

  • Remote streaming via the Internet & SlingBox

    Apple TV
I would like to stream Direct TV video & audio from a remote location via the Internet using a SlingBox (also at the remote location) to a MacBook Pro. I would then like to stream the received video/audio from the MacBook Pro via a Time Capsule to an Apple TV unit and from the Apple TV to a plasma screen using an HDMI cable from the Apple TV to the Plasma screen. There is a high-speed Internet modem and wireless router at both locations.
Is this possible? If not, why? What may I be missing & what would I need to make this work? Would a Mac Mini be a better choice for this application? Is 1280x720 the maximum Resolution possible?
    Thanks,
    Steve

In any case, unless the remote site has a fast upload link to the internet don't expect the video to look very good once it is received and displayed on your TV. SlingBox quality is okay when running totally within your high-speed local network but as soon as you have to stream out over the internet the quality can fall off rather noticeably. On a typical broadband internet connection you might only have 300kbps to 500kbps on the upload side. This means that the video you get on the other end will probably be no larger than 320x240 or maybe even less. Furthermore, unless you want to suffer intermittent pauses and delays in the transmitted video you may even have to go to lower resolutions and/or even higher compression levels.

  • How to I get my Apps I purchased via the App Store on my iPad into Itunes?

Simple scenario. I purchased a used iPad. It came with some apps already installed, purchased by the previous owner. The first thing I did (probably a mistake), was start using the iPad as is, including buying new apps via the iPad app store. A few days in, I decided to start the sync process with my home computer and iTunes, and realized that the old apps the prior owner purchased would be erased if synced the apps, so I delayed. I have since purchased many more via my iPad. I don't mind losing the old apps he purchased, but now I think I will lose the apps I purchased, since they are not in iTunes. So, my question is, how do I sync with iTunes so I can keep the apps I purchased via the iPad App store?

Since you don't have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes, with your iPad connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPad. This will probably transfer the apps purchased/downloaded with your iTunes account only. After doing so, select Sync Apps under the Apps stab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes and leave this selected. With this selected, after purchasing/downloading an app with your iPad, the app will be copied to your iTunes library the first time you sync your iPad with iTunes after doing so. This also allows for deleting an app from your iPad with iTunes by deselecting the app under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync. To re-installed the app later, reselect the app followed by a sync. After purchasing/downloading an app with iTunes on your computer, the app will be selected automatically under the Apps tab. Follow this by a sync to install the app on your iPad.
All apps paid and free include DRM protection, which is tied to the iTunes account used to purchase/download the app.

  • Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.

Trying to connect my wired PC to the wireless airport express via the wireless router.  TP-link wired/wireless router.  Ultimate goal is to send music from iTunes on PC to wireless router, then to airport, then to reciever.  The amber light is blinking.  Thanks in advance for the help!

If I'm understanding right your need and your computer has wired access to your network/router, all you have to do is give your AX wireless or wired access to your network too.
Wired should be easier.  Just use a network cable to connect to the router.  Power up the AX and look for it on AirPort Utility, do so without changing any of your computer settings.  If it's visible, then on iTunes your AX should be visible on the AirPlay icon at the bottom-right corner.
If you want to connect your AX to your router wirelessly I would suggest to reset your AX settings by pressing and holding for a few secs the reset button next to all the ports.  Once it is reset, using your computer try to look for the wireless network it'll be creating, it should be something like Apple Network 4341eb.  Join that network and, using the AirPort Utility, configure your AX as a network client.  Go to Wireless > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network.
Select your router wireless network from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate security and type in your password.  Click update.
It'll restart and automatically join your network.  Have your computer join back your router network and, again, in iTunes bottom right you should be able to see the AX speakers.
Let me know if this worked.

  • Block the creation of vendors via the "extend vendor" function

Is it possible to block the creation of vendors via the "extend vendor" function?  Currently, a number of vendors have been created in this way and are 'shared' across different markets.  This has created a control risk on master data, so I am investigating if it is possible to restrict the process.
    Please suggest
    Thanks
    Mani

    Hi:
Initially your requirement was just to detain user from creating vendor using reference vendor as given in XK01 under reference (Vendor number and co code & Purchasing organization). Through SHD0 you were able to suppress these three fields ( if i am right? correct me here). If its Ok then system has stopped you from creating vendor using reference of another already created vendor. As far main vendor number and co code and purchasing org fields are concerned that appears on the top of XK01 please note that Vendor number field is only used when you use external number range for this vendor account group ( check number range assigned to the vendor account group in OBAS and then check it in XKN1 if is set as external or internal number range). If you have activated internal number range then nothing needs to be given in Vendor number field and system will generate vendor number internally and this can be suppressed otherwise if you are using external number range the system will create vendor as given by you in Vendor in main screen of XK01. Hence it depends on the process you are using in your company for vendor master data creation.

  • TS3112 I tried using sudo rm to get rid of remote desktops but the terminal responded as needing password and yet would not let me type in anything.  help please.

I tried to type in details but unable to do so.  we lived in a gated apt buildings in Hi with 24-hour security guards and cameras.  This false sense of security led us to foolishly leave the computer on all the time, not log off even when out shopping.  Never expect people would open our locks (three locks) and walked into our apt while we were out.  We have dishes, clothes and corning vision cookwares missing.  We have all our important docs including computer serial numbers.  We noticed our computer not respond and files and applications move around.  We know they are not done by themselves and looked into console log list.  The person who remotely logs or links with our computer thought that we are old folks and knew little about how to discover their act. Tried many times to get rid of it but was not successful.  Finally today we hauled our  imac to the apple store and explained the need to get rid of remote desktop.  All went well and we thought our computer is at a factory installed state.   We forgot to start firewall, probably did not disconnect third party help status (apple store third party).  Forgot to write down cable provider IP and resulted in using wi fi.  Look into system log list and other diagnostics messages and found an mac book pro and went back to see if I can write down the entire message but this time it went blank.  system log blank, library logs blank and /var/logs blank and so is user log.  Activity monitor froze would not open.  We had it clean up in apple store today november 18, 2013.  We have an Imac and don't know anyone who owns mac book pro with log message dated on oct 22.  The question is how it still hangs around after reset at the apple store and how to get rid of it and if it is possible?  greatly appreciated.

The Terminal is letting you type it in. It just doesn't display anything when you do.

  • How to get rss feeds onto the Journe Air 801 via the external memory card?

I've bought the Journe Air 801 digital photo frame and the manual says "save the rss feed of the album you wish to display in the .rss format and add to the external memory card" but it doesn't say how you create this .rss file or copy it onto your memory card. does anyone know how i can get a picasa rss feed into this format?
I've successfully added a picasa feed manually in the frame but as picasa only updates the rss feed if new galleries are added, not new photos, the photo feed is not updating on the frame so I'd like to alter the rss address.
    Thanks

    Hi guys,
i will use this thread now also to document my contacts with the toshiba support hotline:
    Early December
I called the hotline the first time and told the support guy (#1) the problem.
He promised to look into this and that he would call me back.
I did not get an incident number.
He called me back the same day and told me, they don't have an air 801 to test, just an air 1000.
The air 1000 has a different menu and does support rss without any problems.
He said, he will try to to find an air 801 and get back at me.
    A week later
Since there was no response I called again and got a different guy.
I told my story again and the support guy #2 promised to ask support guy #1 when #1 is back in office.
He promised to send me an email and include the incident number.
    December 11th
I got an email from #2 saying that he could not find my original request. He did not include the incidient number, although that was promised.
He promised me again that he will get in touch with #1 and ask him for information.
    December 18th
I sent #2 a mail asking for current status.
    December 28th
I called hotline again and had to wait really long (the prerecorded message at the beginning informed me that support staff was hit by a flu).
So I told support guy #3 my story and this time insisted on a incident number and got one. Unsurprisingly #3 could not find my first two requests.
He promised me to hand this to level 3 support and somebody will get back to me, but probably not within this week. I told him I hope for a response within the next four weeks...
So let's see what will happen next.
Maybe you guys could get in touch with toshiba support in your countries, I have the feeling that this increases the chance of getting a "correct" answer.
    Cheers,
    Kai

  • Using the BT remote to operate the tv

No doubt a childish question: I have configured the BT remote so that it works my Panasonic TV as well as the Vision box. However, while I can now turn on both pieces of equipment I still have to use the Panasonic remote to get on to the AV channel, whatever that is - which seems to make a nonsense of altering the remote in the first instance. Is there a way in which I can overcome this? Perhaps I should add that the TV has Freesat built in and I would occasionally wish to use that.

Have you tried pressing Mode and then Channel Up or Down? I've never got that to work for me, but I recall that it worked for some devices.
You need to hold down the Mode Button while pressing the Channel + - Button and the TV will change channels.
However, I think the OP was trying to get the BT Vision Box to automatically grab the input Channel under HDMI Control. I don't believe this is inplemented on the Vision Box.

  • Has anyone hidden the browser toolbars etc. via the UI screen?.

I'm trying to implement a development feature (only) so that on pressing a button I can display as much of the screen as possible by disabling the browser toolbars etc. By doing this I can gain at least three extra rows on the screen, and I suspect there other things that can be removed to reveal more of the screen. I'm currently using CRM 2007 and I'm getting a little miffed with having to keep scrolling down the screen to view SLA info etc., when it could all easily fit the screen.
    Anyone?.

    Thanks Kevin,
I'm going to come back to this later as it might be an option that we want to retain for the users, however,  in the meantime I'll use a Windows macro tool to control this. Finding the right macro tool is a real chore though as they all advertise to be free but then you find that you have to pay for them. Finding an open source and portable one (administrator rights not required) is even  harder, but I'll get one eventually.
There is an add-in for both IE and Firefox called i-Macro, but unfortunately it requires Administration access to install. Doh!, the same hurdle hit again and again. Why someone would allocate a laptop to anyone and not give them admin access is beyond me. After all they will just completely blitz the laptop and re-install the OS when it is returned.
It does sound like I can do this via some kind of HTML or java code within the BSP. I may investigate this later.
    With regards
    Gary

  • Issues with the Apple remote icon on the desktop

Hello. When I press the play and pause button on the remote for several seconds my computer goes to sleep. Then if I press it again it awakes it. But the white big icon right in the center of the desktop going ZZZ is still there and I cannot get it away. It is driving me mad because the only thing I can do is restart the computer. I use often the remote to make the Imac go to sleep. What is the problem? Can anyone help me please?

I had Mira software installed and it was not Leopard compatible and was causing interferences.
