GetURL or javascript resolution? to controlling PDF browser

Okay.. so here is the scenario.
I am creating a CD that has a Flash projector. The Flash
projector links to PDF files located on the same CD. Everything
works great.. except that when you click on the link to open up the
PDFs, they open in separate windows. So you could have 8 windows
open at the same time for 8 of the different PDF files.
I have already tried to make sure that getURL targets _self.
This works if you publish the Flash file as an HTML instead of the
.EXE (projector). However, when you click "Back" on the broswer it
takes you to the first frame instead of the frame that the links
coincides on.
It's been suggested that either through actionscript or
javascript, to issue a command that will open up the particular PDF
in a new window. OR another suggestion was to add javascript to PDF
itself so that Acrobat would control the Acrobat Reader.
Does anyone know how I could go about doing so? or know of
any online resources?
Much appreciated.

Yes FlashJester JStart can solve this issue and only open up
one Window,
which will be the actual Adobe Reader application and not
viewing it through
a browser.
Download an evaluation copy of JStart from here

and look at the example files given.

  • How to control PDF plugin from Javascript?

    I need to embed a PDF viewer into a webpage displayed on a special infokiosk withou a keyboard and a mouse. The infokiosk will have just five control button (four arrows and an OK button), which will map to corresponding keys on keyboard. It will be running a simple Linux system and Firefox browser as GUI.
    This is exactly what I need to accomplish:

  • How to use the 64 bit Adobe PDF Browser Control (AcroPDF64.dll) in x64 WinForms VS2012

    I noticed that sice 11.0.07 there is a 64 bit version of the AcroPDF.dll called AcroPDF64.dll. Does this mean that I can use the PDF Browser Control in a x64 WinForms application? If so, what do I need to do to get this to work?
    When I right click on the "Toolbox" and select "Choose Items..." there is only the possibility to select the Adobe PDF Reader pointing to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll" and not a version using the AcroPDF64.dll
    When I click in this dialog on the "Browse..." btton and select the AcroPDF64.dll nothing happens.
    Now I am stuck with an "Initializing..." message when loading a PDF in the control. The control is working when switching back to x86 (but which I can't because I need to reference a dll that is only available in 64 bit).
    Please advice, thank you in advance!

    Thank you for your reply.
    Does this means that it is still not possible to use the PDF ActiveX control in a x64 WinForms application?

  • Custom book export resolution problem in PDF - only 150DPI!?

    I've been using the custom book option and when it came to exporting my PDF I have run into a problem involving the undocumented output resolution of a PDF at a given size. The custom book dialog allows you to create a book with a certain size in inches, but this really has no real meaning since the resolution of that output cannot also be specified in either the layout option or the print dialog. For example is it 150dpi or 300dpi? From some investigation it appears to be locked at 150DPI.
    Now I would have thought that Aperture was intelligent enough to just treat the album layout (this is my assumption) as some kind of smart object, where the layout is resolution independent and the final output resolution can be determined when printing to a printer or PDF. In that case the dialog for the setup of the custom size is correct. However, there is no option that I can see in the print dialog to actually specify the output resolution; Aperture is left to its own devices to specify an output resolution, which is undocumented.
    I use a printer that accepts JPG or TIF files and I need 300dpi for an album size of 10x13 inches. This equates to 3900x3000 pixels per page. I am able to export to PDF in the print dialog and then used an automator action to export each page of the PDF as JPG and reimported back into Aperture 2 in the same action. In the PDF>JPG conversion option there is the ability to set the DPI to 300. That works fine and the resulting JPG images show as 300dpi (3900x3000px). When looking at the images though they look a little soft, which leads me to believe that my action was simply interpolating a 150dpi image in the PDF into 300dpi.
    So to test this, I noticed that if I exported just one page of the album as a PDF and opened the PDF in Preview it does indeed tell you that it is 13x10 inches (no mention of the pixel resolution though). So, you can actually reimport a single page PDF into Aperture and if you do this it appears that the actual resolution is 1950x1500 and that equates to 150dpi for a 13x10 inch layout.
    So there are two things that could possibly be going on here:
    1. The actual layout of the album is locked at 150DPI and the save to PDF simply takes that and exports a PDF at that resolution.
    2. The layout of the album is resolution independent, the size of the album (in the custom dialog) simply controls the aspect of the page layout, and the print dialog (save to PDF) is exporting as 150DPI as default. When I run my automator action (these are the Leopard PDF actions), the save each page to JPG action is up-res'ing the image to 300dpi.
    This is where I need help. Is 1 or 2 (or something else?) happening. Also, does the PDF save as JPG12? That too is undocumented.
    If number 1 is happening I may have to set my album size to 26x20inches to get a 10x13 inch page at 300dpi.
    If number 2 is happening I need to find a PDF/TIFF/JPEG print driver to enable me to export at 300dpi as the print dialog in not standard (and we don't get the nice 'save as' drop down where we could do other things. So far my search has led me to CUPS-PDF, but that still doesn't allow for resolution to be set: http://www.codepoetry.net/projects/cups-pdf-for-mosx
    Why can't Apple just figure this thing out correctly and allow the resolution to be specified by the user - what an oversight given all of the feedback requests for the custom album tool. We need 300dpi as a minimum as we can always down-res if we want.
    Any ideas? I've got albums to send to clients! Help!
    Thanks

    When you import any PDF into Aperture, I think it rasterizes any PDF you import to a 150dpi flat image on import, even if it was a high res PDF to begin with. But theres the thing, PDFs don't have dpi (as such). Any shapes or text is a vector so don't have a DPI as they'll scale when printed. The images use their DPI when they were imported from the program that created the PDF.
    So I did a quick test and put a page I made from Aperture in to Acrobat and ran a preflight check on all images to check the resolution. It came back at 349.956 ppi, so this example was over 350dpi.

  • Cant seem to find any information about reading text on a pdf browser or open word document for coded UI.

    Hi forum,
            I'm currently building automation for this web application for my job that have links that opens either a word document, a web page or opens up a pdf document in the browser in the same screen.  All i'm trying to do is read
    the text from the pdf browser, or the word document that opens up and read the related text off these documents.
    I know how to read the related text from the web page that opens but for
    the other two options i dont really know what i have to do.  I read the ALM add for word might
    work but i haven't tried to implement this or know if this will help me.
    When i read these strings out i plan on comparing them and doing an assertion on them.
    Can someone point me to the right direction on doing this.
    Tahnks

    Hi skinny_Will,
    The coded UI test would have some limitations for the Word/office controls by design.
    To really read and compare the text value, I'm afraid that we would use certain extension tool/add-in and custom code for it.
    Please check the Visual Studio Coded UI for Word Add-In.

  • Controling a Browser. Can anyone help?

    I am currently trying to display formatted HTML through the use of Java. I know that the easiest way to display formated HTML is by opening the document in a browser using the clientAppletContext.showDocument method. This does not allow me to control the browser window. I know that Javascript allows you to have more control over the browser and would like to use it somehow through java but I'm new to java and I'm not sure how or what I need to do in order to do so. Can anyone help?

    wimbishd,
    I am providing some javascript functions that you can use that give you an example of how to control the window size, toolbar, menu, etc. I am a little unsure as to what you are doing with your applet. If you are tying to display your java code in HTML format, download textpad from http://www.textpad.com/. There is a plugin for it that will also you to convert your java code to color-coded html. Or, maybe you are just having your applet open up a new window using HTML that you created with your applet. If that is the case, you will need to code the javascript into the html. See sample below:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Sample</title>
    <SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
    <!--
    * openSizablePopupWindow(): opens a javascript window based upon the file Name  *

    Hi Experts,
    This is a bit of a pain I have to distrubte
    Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1 to about 3000+ users and I am having a problem,
    In Prefs in "Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1"
    When I tick then untick, "display in PDF Browser" from the Preferences, My Outlook will fail to convert to PDF. I get an "Item failed to convert" message and a log file. Also Word 2003 will not post a .PDF to an email.
    If I restart "Outlook 2003" it will create a "pdf" when I click the icon the first time, the second time I click it will fail.
    Please help.

    We also deployed 8.12 to over 1000 users with the "Disable PDF in browser" option checked using the customization wizard. Now we're finding some users need it to view certain PDFs in a web-based application.
    We would like to add the option, but removing the registry key doesn't actually install the option when you check it. It seems you might have to create a new mst then redeploy. We'd really like to not have to do that, if at all possible.
    In the Reader archives, one guy suggested running this:
    msiexec /i Adobe_Reader_8.1_MUI.msi ADDLOCAL=ReaderBrowserIntegration
    I haven't tried that yet. Any feedback or other suggestions?

  • Adobe reader & pdf browser plugin 2 license

    i've got a macbookpro, & my class lectures are presented in pdf format.  every time i go to open 1, i get a popup that i need to order a pdf browser plugin 2 license.  it let me access my pdfs last semester by requesting register later, but this semester it's not letting me read them.  nothing i've found for adobe reader shows that i need this.  how do i get rid of this popup so that i can read my lecture notes?

    You must have used some file that was created with that program.  It is completely unnecessary for Safari or Firefox.  If you have installed Adobe Reader, it should have put a plug-in into your Internet plug-ins.  Find a pdf file in Finder, then select it, then right click, get info.  In the window, make sure that the pdf file opens with Adobe Reader, then click on Change All.  It tells the Mac to handle all pdf files with Adobe Reader, and IF you have the plug-in, you should be able to read it.

  • Order pdf browser plugin 2 license

    Mac Pro laptop OS10.6.7, running Firefox 3.6.17
    When I attempt to open a .pdf document within Firefox one of two things happen:
    1. the screen/tab freezes completely with a "Not registered" message shown under the frozen processing icon. Or
    2. I get a pop-up that asks me to "Order PDF Browser Plugin 2 license. To order a PDF Browser Plugin 2 license, click Order License to go to the Schubert it online store." This is followed by a "Order License" button. The lower half of the pop-up is "When you have received your license code enter your name and the license code." This is followed by several buttons and blanks for name and code. Without ordering and leaving all fields blank, clicking the OK button in the lower right allows the .pdf to load albeit very slowly.
    I have a screenshot of the pop-up window to forward if needed.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How can I regain Preview as my default PDF browser in Safari?

    Hi, everyone...to make a long story short, I recently installed an update to Adobe Reader only to discover that it somehow took over my PDF viewing in Safari from Preview. I wanted to try and get Preview back as my default Safari PDF browser, but no luck. I trashed Reader and went into Library to trash the Adobe Internet plug-in as well. After I did that, I tried to reopen a PDF in Safari only to discover that I now can't open ANY PDF in Safari and I can't figure out how to make Preview the default reader again. I right-clicked a PDF in my computer and went under "Get Info" to try and change Preview to my default reader, but I can't figure out ANYTHING on how to regain my prior Preview default. I'm frustrated like CRAZY! I have Safari 5.1.5 and Preview 5.5.1. I would really appreciate some help on this!

    Hi,
    I also installed Adobe Reader because an ebook I downloaded wouldn't open without it.
    I then chose Adobe Reader as my default. When I later uninstalled it using the Trash Me app-which usually clears everything out-I couldn't get Preview back as the default.
    I went to the "Library/Internet plug-ins" path and trashed the two Adobe Reader plug ins that were there. I used Secure Empty Trash, and then shut down completely and did not check the box to reopen any windows. Then I restarted the Mac.
    I not only shut down Safari, I closed all applications and shut down the Mac completely being sure to uncheck the "relaunch with windows open" button. When I turned the Mac back on, I opened Safari and went to an online PDF that I had been trying to open previously to test the app. It opened this PDF using Preview and showed it in Safari.
    I then tested using a PDF from my files and it opened in Preview.
    Quit Safari.
    Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type of copy / paste:   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go then move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • Pdf browser too small?

    Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question (but that won't stop me from asking...)
    When I'm trying to browse a report either directly in BI Publisher, or from a section on an OBI EE dashboard, the pdf browser is REALLY small. If I enlarge the window, the pdf output still only shows in the top half of it, the rest of the window is empty.
    Is there some sort of setting I can adjust so it displays a full page?
    Thx,
    Scott

    I am getting the same issues and have tried setting this in BIP Admin - I wasn't sure what the units were so tried 300 and 4000 - neither seemed to make any difference though. Is there anything else I can try - my report view seems to be stuck showing PDFs in a 8.27 * 11.69 inch area which looks poor as the report page is half hidden.

  • Javascript functions to control QuickTime not working in Firefox

    I am using the provided Javascript functions to control QuickTime (7.6.2); however, the functions are not working in Firefox (3.0.11), whereas they are working in Safari (4.0.1).
    I create a QuickTime Player, as follows:
    QT_WriteOBJECT('Music.mp3', '0', '0', '', 'AUTOPLAY', 'True', 'KIOSKMODE', 'True', 'CONTROLLER', 'False', 'LOOP', 'False', 'obj#id', 'qtp', 'emb#name', 'qtp', 'emb#id', 'qtpID', 'ENABLEJAVASCRIPT', 'True', 'SHOWLOGO', 'False', 'VOLUME', '256');
    The Music.mp3 file starts playing in both Safari and Firefox; however, the Javascript functions to control that playing work only in Safari, not in Firefox.
    Examples of QuickTime functions that work in Safari, but not in Firefox:
    document.qtp.Stop();
    document.embeds[0].GetRate();
    document.embeds["qtp"].GetTime();
    document.embeds["qtpID"].GetQuickTimeVersion();
    The GetRate and GetTime functions always return a "0" in Firefox, the Stop command is ineffectual in Firefox, and the GetQuickTimeVersion function aborts the Javascript code in Firefox.
    Any ideas what's happening?

    Dave, what you have done is very similar to what I have done, with the following exceptions:
    1. I'm using the regular HTML version of QT_WriteOBJECT rather than the XHTML version.
    2. My first parameter is an .mp3 file rather than a .mov poster in combination with an 'href'.
    3. I'm not using some of your parameters, such as, 'target', 'targetcache', 'scale', 'href', and 'name'.
    4. Instead of 'name', I'm using --- 'obj#id', 'qtp', 'emb#name', 'qtp' --- which allows me to then reference the QuickTime functions as --- document.qtp.Play(); document.qtp.Stop(); --- etc.
    5. I'm not creating HTML buttons as player controls; rather I am using my javascript program to detect and control the player operation with functions such as --- document.qtp.GetRate(); document.qtp.GetTime(); document.qtp.GetDuration(); document.qtp.SetVolume(); document.qtp.SetMute(); document.qtp.Play(); document.qtp.Rewind(); document.qtp.Stop() --- etc.
    6. I change my .mp3 files using --- document.qtp.SetURL();
    7. All my javascript is contained in an iWeb HTML snippet using an iframe.
    Essentially, I've created a jukebox with button images of album covers that can be visually scrolled and then clicked to play an album via the HTML onClick, onMouseOver, and onMouseOut functions.
    This all works without a hitch in Safari; however, in FF, NN, and Opera, it only works if the iframe is completely visible on the screen. It can't be scrolled offpage, and the HTML album cover buttons in the iframe cannot be dimensionless, hidden, or blocked from view.
    I really think it's the iframe that is causing this behavior in all the browsers (except Safari).
    BTW, as an aside, I don't have a Windows machine, but no one I know using IE on a PC has been able to get my QuickTime Player working. I think it's because, when I want to collapse an album cover, I set its width to '1px' ('0px' works only in Safari), but I think IE may require a minimum width of '2px'. I have not tried changing my image widths to '2px' yet.
