GlassFish PDF Printing question

Hi all,
I am looking into some options of integrating PDF Printing to our APEX application.
So far I've managed to have Apache FOP and Tomcat+Cocoon working.
Has anybody tried to have PDF printing capabilities with GlassFish as web server? If so, are there any hints/documents available out there?
Kind Regards,
Ana

Hi all,
Here's what I have done so far is:
1. Set up GlassFish App Server - all went OK
2. Connect to admin console: http://host:4848/
3. Navigate to WebApplications then deploy fop.war from apex install (however it is not possible to set Context Root to null as it gets set with "fop")
4. Next in APEX set the following :
Host: localhost
Port: 8080
Print Server Script: /fop/apex_fop.jsp
I am getting many errors when I try to generate a report to Word, one of which I am pasting below:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: PWC6033: Unable to compile class for JSP
PWC6199: Generated servlet error:
[javac] E:\Kits\GlassFish\glassfish\domains\domain1\generated\jsp\j2ee-modules\fop\org\apache\jsp\apex_005ffop_jsp.java:10: package oracle.xml.parser.v2 does not exist
[javac] import oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument;
I think what I need is to use a different fop.war (as the one in APEX is not suited)
Has anybody tried this before?
Thank you,
Ana-Maria

  • InDesign CS3 Interactive PDF print question

I have created an InDesign document with interactive PDF elements, one of which is a layer with a button that covers the entire document size (11" x 8.5") and has a single page 11" x 8.5" PDF placed on the layer that is to be printed. This has been designated in the States palette / Button Options / General by selecting "Hidden but printable" in the "Visibility in PDF" dialog box. No Behaviours are added. This has worked beautifully.
My problem is that now my client wants to add a second page that will also print, and I can't seem to accomplish this. I have tried several things:
    – adding a second page to the original PDF placed on the layer under the button -- the second page does not print.
    – on the same layer, under the button placing a second, separate PDF of the new page directly under the originally placed PDF -- the second page does not print
    – adding a second layer just below the first, set up exactly the same as the original one described above with a PDF of the new page I want to print -- the second page does not print.
Is it possible to do what I want, and can anyone advise me? Thanks!

Carol, I did change a few things in the attached PDF that are different from the instructions that I first posted. After I re-read your post, you said that the image that you want the user to print would cover the entire page. In that case, you wouldn't need to have the second action of hiding the print images applied to the buttons for roll off. Those images are hidden when you click on the print image, and then you go back to the original state.
As for the sizes, the print images are the same size as the presentation portion of the PDF. The print images are hidden until a user would engage them. I have taken this approach one step further. In Acrobat, I have assigned an action for the button to bring up the image as well as engage the print dialog box. Then, once the printing is completed, the user returns to the original state of the presentation PDF, hiding the print image.
I have created this type of presentation for the scenario of having a user view a PDF if it were a slideshow (reverse type on dark background), but allowing the user to print from the PDF a page better suited for a laser printer (black type on white background).

  • PDF printing question

    Hi Guru:
We have a web report which will be distributed to printer via information broadcasting.
In the web report, there are 3 queries and with profit center as a input.
For some inputed profit center, the 3rd query will have no data.
But still there is a blank page will be printed for that.
So, is there any way to remove the blank page?
    Thanks.

  • Pdf Printing - Sorry another question

    Hi all
I am just getting to grips with apex 3 and looking at some of the new features. I am particularly interested in pdf printing and trying to get a grip on the art of the possible without using BI publisher.
I have read most of the forum posts on the subject and Carl Backstrom’s great blog:
    http://carlback.blogspot.com/
I have been through his example without any problem
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:139
Next I have been trying to see what can be done with some of the 3ed Party tools suggested; Atova XML Spy and Atova StyleVision.
    I did the following:
    1.     Export XML from apex report
    2.     Open in XML spy
    3.     Generate DTD schema
    4.     Create a new SPS in StyleVision based on XML and DTD
    5.     Generate xslt-fo
    6.     Load xslt in print region in apex and voila…. Error
I have put the generated xslt onto apex.oracle.com with an example
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=579:13
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Or should this be possible. It renders ok with the Apache FOP that comes with StyleVision.
Perhaps there is a problem with the xslt?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hello,
After a brief look it looks like it is a namespace issues. See here are my namespaces

<xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions" xmlns:xdt="http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-datatypes" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format" xmlns:altova="http://www.altova.com">See if there is an export that exports with only xslt namespace and I would at least start with XSLT version 1.0

  • PDF printer has a problem with Safari in "Reader" mode in Windows7

As shown in the image above. When I try to use the PDF printer to print out a web page in Safari "Reader" mode, the lines near the bottom of each page get squeezed like this. There is no problem with XPS printer. I guess this problem is because of some incorrect settings in Safari or the PDF printer?
My system is Windows 7 Pro. I am using Acrobat X Pro. The page I am trying to print is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_band_structure. This problem only happens when the webpage is adjusted into "Reader" mode in Safari.

    Many thanks for your reply!
I am sorry, I did not make my question clear. I would like to save some web pages only in "Reader" mode, because in this mode all the advertisements are filtered out and the pages look much nicer than the origional layout.
I first let Safari to active "Reader" by clicking "Reader" button.
Then I click "Print" button and select Adobe PDF as the printer.
The problem is the PDF file has something wrong (shown above), and I would like to know how to avoid this problem.

  • Printing from Appleworks using Adobe PDF Printer

I have a large number of Appleworks files to convert to PDF. At the moment, I open the file, do a command-p, choose PDF, then "Save as PDF". This method works fine. I would like, however, to automate the process, and doing so would be much easier if the Adobe PDF Printer would print with the expected settings when I click the "Print" button. Is there any way to make this happen? It seems strange that it is not the default behavior, considering the fact that the PDF printer is only a virtual printer, and would never be used to print to paper.
    Peter

I have a g5 running Tiger. I updated my profile after posting my original question.
The "Save as PDF..." button works, but not the button on the right that says "Print". It is important to me to be able to use that button, because it forces the application to print to the Adobe PDF virtual printer.

  • How do I install a Adobe pdf printer?

Upgrade from Acrobat Pro X to Pro XI destroyed my prior Adobe pdf printer. How do I reinstall the printer instance without reinstalling Acrobat XI?
I found a reply for an earlier version of Acrobat, but I have no interest in installing the PDF printer into \Desktop or \Documents. Whatever it said to do didn't work and I've received no reply to my question posted on that old thread.
So, how do I recreate the Adobe PDF printer, and, how do I do so while selecting where I want the .pdf files to be located?
    Thanks in advance for help

What OS are you running? If it is a version of Windows, is it 32 or 64 bit? Are you using 11.0.0? Did you reboot after the install? If you did not reboot, then do that first. The next step is to run a repair and then do the updates (XI is currently at 11.0.03). Both the Repair and the Updates can be run from the Help menu.

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

  • Acrobat 7, needed with FrameMaker 7: How do I get and install an "Adobe PDF printer instance?"

In FrameMaker, when I try to save a FrameMaker file as a PDF file, I get the following message: "FrameMaker could not find Adobe PDF printer instance, which must be installed to execute "Save as PDF" command".  I have a sinking feeling that I deleted that printer instance from my list of printers, thinking I did not need such a printer. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling FrameMaker 7, Acrobat 7 and Reader 9. All reinstalled successfully, EXCEPT still no Adobe PDF printer instance. Thus my question: how do I get and install that Adobe PDF printer instance?
.( I am using a new computer. I still have my old computer available, with the Adobe PDF printer instance on it. If I could find where in the old machine (Windows XP)  the files are for it, I could copy them to the new machine).
Thanks in advance  for any advice.

    Just curious,
What is the new machine's OS (& is it 32-bit or 64-bit)?

  • Pdf printing of an image stored in database?

  • PDF printing in Landscape, but shown rotated 90 deg. clockwise on screen.

    Hello all,
I need to send a considerable amount of images. My best shot is to print them in PDF (landscape mode). I myself test-printed, and it works very well.
The only thing is that those pdf-printed images are needed to be presented on computer screen as well. On the screen, landscape-pdf-printed images are displayed rotated 90 degrees. It is painful to change the view orientation one by one.
Is there any setting mode to change that?
I know that I can export images to JPEG for computer screen presentation. However, I don't want to do the same job twice, especially when printing in PDF and exporting to JPEG in high res take as much as time I need for having a meal, taking a walk, and lastly taking a shower.
If my question is too vague, or not specific enough, please tell me. I'd happy to explain further.

^^Bump due to added information that may help with the specifics of the problem.

  • Using PDF Printer in XP Mode within Windows 7 64-bit (need x86 driver)

This question was asked before and there was no response. (See   http://forums.adobe.com/thread/782430 )
I have practically the same question.
My desktop has as Windows 7 64-bit on it, and Adobe Acrobat X installed on it  I have an application that I have to run in XP Mode.
How can I install the print driver in both places without buying another license?  They are running on the same machine.
I tried to connecting to the shared PDF Printer using a network printer, but Adobe Acrobat only installs the 64-bit driver, and the XP Mode needs the x86 driver installed.
I found that I can go to the  printer properties and it has an option to add the  X86 driver but asks for the .inf file.
I believe this version of Acrobat came as part of a bundle, but not positive. Can't find a disk anywhere and also looked for a driver on my PC. No luck.
I know this is a fully licensed product. So anyone know where I can find the driver?
    John

How is Acrobat 8 not fully Windows 7 compatible?  I see discussions on this Adobe Community saying how Acrobat 8 does work on Windows 7 and with 64-bit.  It appears that if Acrobat 8 is updated to the latest version, then this should fix AA8-Win7 issues.  And I am at the latest AA8 version, 8.3.1.
And how are Acrobat 8 and Reader XI are not compatible?  I have always had Acrobat and Reader installed on the same PC, without ever having any issues.  And Adobe allows the installation of one after the other.  So apparently Adobe allows them both to exist together.  If they are incompatible, then why would Adobe allow them to exist together?
Anyway, I did uninstall the FileOpen Plug-in and the Reader XI, then reinstalled the FileOpen Plug-in.  So now Reader is not installed and only Acrobat 8 is installed.  I then tried to load the PDF file, but I still get the Acrobat 8 error described above.
